Joseph and Medea began talking about adoption before they were married and shared a desire to grow their family through adoption. Medea had always felt a deep compassion for children. As a kindergarten teacher, she often found herself wishing she could give every child a safe and loving home. Joseph’s heart for adoption was shaped early as well—his cousin Edwin was adopted from Panama, and watching his family welcome Edwin left a lasting impression.
After five years of marriage, Joseph and Medea began pursuing adoption. They quickly learned that the process can be complex and unpredictable as programs close, timelines shift, and costs grow. But their perseverance paid off when they saw a photo and short description of a little boy in a RainbowKids email. In 2012, their son Maddox came home from South Korea. The following year, he underwent open-heart surgery to repair a large hole in his heart. Today, Maddox is a healthy and thriving 16-year-old.
Two years later, their daughter Mia joined the family through adoption from India. Though she is three months older than Maddox, the two have been inseparable since the day she arrived home.
In 2018, the family faced an unimaginable trial when their home was destroyed by Hurricane Michael. The aftermath brought tremendous loss, but through it all Joseph and Medea remained committed to the belief that every child deserves a family.
In 2022, that belief led them to pursue adoption again. They were matched with their youngest son Marley’s birth mother, Hannah, and Marley joined their family at just two days old. He has truly been a rainbow after the storm.
Joseph, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and Medea continue to advocate for adoption and for vulnerable children. Medea also co-hosts the Adopting Empathy Podcast, where she and Hannah share their open adoption stories that encourage compassion and understanding in the adoption community.
Their commitment to adoption extends beyond their own family. Through their nonprofit, Oath Fund, they have helped provide adoption grants to other families. Since December 2020, they have raised and given more than $70,000, helping over 40 families bring children home.
Recently, one of those grant families shared about a little girl in West Africa who urgently needs a family. She is seven years old, blind, and significantly underweight. When Joseph and Medea first saw her story, they began praying for her. Over time, the sense that she belonged in their family continued to grow stronger. They believe this sweet, beautiful girl will complete their family.
Their children are already excited to welcome her home—especially Mia, who looks forward to helping her sister learn to navigate the world as someone who is blind.
Joseph and Medea are now stepping out in faith once again to bring their daughter home. The adoption process will cost approximately $49,000, and they are grateful for the community that has walked alongside them through every chapter of their family’s story.
They believe deeply that every child deserves the love, stability, and belonging of a family—and they cannot wait for the day their daughter is finally home.

A BOY for the Johnson-Manning family — PA
Benny has spent all 12 years of his life in an institution. Like his future sister, Benny is blind and nonverbal. He also has cerebral palsy and several medical needs that simply cannot be met where he is now. They are determined to give him a life surrounded by love, stability, safety, nourishment, and access to the medical care, therapies, and educational resources he deserves.
Benny has waited a very long time for a family. With your help, they can finally bring him home.
This time around, the financial strain is especially real for the family, as their recent move to a new state (so that Elspeth, and ultimately Benny, can attend a remarkable school for blind children) came with major and ongoing expenses. It was the right move for their family, but it also stretched them thin. Delaying Benny’s homecoming wasn’t an option; he needs a family now. And that means they need their village more than ever.
Your gift doesn’t just help the Johnson-Manning family adopt Benny. It gives Benny the chance to grow, to heal, and to be cherished, and to finally belong.
Josh, Al, and Elspeth thank you from the bottom of their hearts for helping bring Benny home!

A GIRL for the Harrison family — OH
Through it all, the Harrisons have been overwhelmed with gratitude for the love, prayers, and support that have surrounded them from family, friends, and their community. That encouragement has been a constant source of strength and hope, reminding them that they are never walking this journey alone. Now, with hearts still wide open, Taylor and Austin are thrilled to be adopting from Bulgaria once again, trusting that, once more, love will lead them exactly where they are meant to be. Their soon-to-be daughter is a precious little girl in Bulgaria with complex medical needs that require urgent care and stability.
Every day that passes reminds the Harrisons just how important it is to bring her home as soon as possible, where she can receive the medical attention, love, and security she deserves. The whole family’s hearts are already deeply connected to her, and they eagerly await the day she is finally in their arms. They are profoundly grateful for the incredible generosity, prayers, and encouragement from those who have rallied around them once again. Each act of kindness brings them one step closer to their daughter, and one step closer to giving her the chance to thrive in a home full of love.

RAYA for the Brokaw Family — PA
Emily has known she wanted to adopt since she was 7. Through a series of events in her life, including welcoming a cousin through adoption, undergoing major surgery as a 22-year-old, and assisting her parents with caregiving for her grandmother for her final 5 years, God only solidified her call to adopt. Emily has always had a heart for serving other people and her career as a speech-language pathologist has enabled her to help both children and adults reach their goals. Her career only further ignited her desire to adopt children with special needs.
In early 2021, Emily initially began pursuing a waiting child in China. Sadly, that program closed. While she grieves for the girl she had hoped was her daughter, she is grateful for the way that child led her to her son, Micah.
Micah has Down syndrome and was adopted from Bulgaria in April 2024. Emily has been honored to watch Micah thrive since coming home. Being Micah’s Baboo (his word for “mommy”) is her favorite role. He is a social butterfly and has entwined his way into the hearts of many in their amazing community.
In September 2025, exactly 2 years after receiving Micah’s referral, Emily saw a beautiful older girl with Down syndrome on the waiting photo listings. Emily applied and received a soft match just 2.5 weeks later. She feels incredibly honored to be entrusted with loving this sweet girl forever.
Emily and Micah are racing to bring her home as soon as possible so that she can receive needed medical care and be surrounded by the love of a mama, brother, nana, pap, and a village of family and friends. Emily and Micah are so humbled and thankful for your love, prayers, and financial support. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus in this tangible way.

2 Children for the Morrison family — Canada
Our youngest, adopted from Ukraine (“Cassandra” on RR), changed our world in the best ways. Ukraine will always hold a piece of our hearts, and though the war has paused our plans to return, we still hope to one day.
In the four years since bringing her home, we’ve moved clear across the country, gutted and rebuilt our home to make it fully accessible for future kiddos, started new schools and jobs, and fallen in love with our life all over again. These days, we’re soaking up life in beautiful, Nova Scotia — filled with art, music, outdoor adventures, and plenty of lazy afternoons by the pool.
Now, we’re thrilled to be in our second adoption journey, hoping to welcome two children with special needs into our fun, always loud, love-filled home!

CARLTON for the Roman family — IN
Back in 2021, while they were in the process of adopting two of their kids, they saw an advocacy post for Carlton and fell head over heels for this amazing boy. At that time, the Roman family put his picture on their fridge and actively prayed for the right family to find him.
After bringing their new children home from that adoption, getting their medical care established, and settling in as a family, the Romans started seeing many similarities between one of their newly adopted daughters and Carlton. They began advocating for him, donating to prospective families, and talking to families considering him about what life might look like with this amazing kid.
But as time continued to pass, Carlton grew closer and closer to aging out. The Romans began wondering if they were Carlton’s family, after all! They were not sure if they would be too late or not, but they decided to try! So many pieces began to fall in place as the Romans began to run furiously, against the clock. God even lead them to a handicap accessible home and provided a bus that would fit all 3 wheelchairs!
You see, the Romans had long ago had their eyes opened to children with medical needs both here and internationally during their first adoptions. It changed the trajectory of their lives as they prayed for God to break their hearts for what breaks His. They have prayed that God would send them the children He wanted in their family, and His faithful providence has been clear.
As they await officially making this boy, who has waited such a terribly long time, a part of their family, they would be grateful for any prayers and support. And pray that Carlton does not lose heart as he has a family anxiously waiting to welcome him home.

Jake loves being outdoors, reading and has recently started bee keeping. Autumn loves creating art and gardening her flowers. They have 3 little girls who they absolutely adore. River just turned 13 and is their animal loving, kindhearted artist who adores her dog, Spot and raising her baby goats and bunnies. Zephyr is 8 ½ and joined the family in 2025 from Bulgaria. She is a gentle, cuddly little one who loves music and being read to. Olive is 4 ½ and is the spunky, giggly baby of the family who loves rolling everywhere. Ollie joined the family in 2023 from Bulgaria. While all 3 girls have medical needs, they are genuinely the happiest little bunch one could meet. Their home is filled with so many giggles and adventures.
As the months ticked by, one very special ray of sunshine captured their hearts. With her gentle smile and gorgeous curly hair, her sisters can’t wait for her to join them and are dreaming of the dance parties and Bluey games they will enjoy together. Dad and Mom are so incredibly excited and working very hard to bring their sweet girl home!
This adoption has brought unexpected hurdles and they are so grateful for all the love, encouragement, gifts, and prayers every single one of their friends, family, village, and community. Each day brings them so much closer to bringing their little princess home.

Recently, God called on me again to adopt, but this time it was for a waiting child who had multiple special needs and medical needs, formerly known as “Beverly#” on RR, who I lovingly nicknamed Ladybug.
Unfortunately, we suffered the heartbreaking loss of my sweet “Ladybug” who passed away before I got to bring her home to join our family. Though no one can replace my precious little Ladybug, I am back on the waiting list to be matched with a little girl in Bulgaria who has Down syndrome. I am excited to meet the little girl that God has already chosen to join our family.
As a single mama my hands and heart will be so full of love for my two girls, but with the support of our family and friends, we will make sure these girls have the fullest lives possible!

Hello Reece’s Rainbow supporters and friends! I am beyond thrilled to share that I am pursuing the adoption of a daughter with Down syndrome. My life has been layered with multiple friends with Down syndrome starting in the 4th grade, when I was paired as a buddy with another student in my elementary school. Since then I have been blessed by endless opportunities to connect with people with disabilities of all ages, including several years leading a week of camp for adults with disabilities. The first year we held the camp, my friend with Down syndrome from the 4th grade was one of our campers!
My camp story is one of so many examples of how God has led me to this journey of adoption. Being surrounded by both friends with Down syndrome and stories of adoption growing up, I’ve always known my life would lead to special needs adoption one day. I cannot say how excited I am to know the day is here!
My journey to motherhood will be my life’s greatest joy, and I am honored by the support I’ve received from family and friends so far. Thank you for your prayers and kindness!

Shortly after bringing home their son, they decided to adopt “just one more”. They fell in love with an Asian beauty with Down Syndrome on the Reece’s Rainbow page and started the journey to bring her home. During the process, they learned about another little boy with Down Syndrome at the same orphanage. In a few short months after mounds of paperwork, jumping through hoops and fundraising, they brought 2 kiddos home from China. Surely, now their family was complete….
While scrolling through the Reece’s Rainbow several years later, Christy saw a perfect baby girl with Down Syndrome that needed a forever family. She was in Bulgaria. After prayer and a bit of laughing since they thought they were “done”, they started the paper trail to bring home their Bulgarian princess. After arriving home with her, they found out that along with Down Syndrome, she was in heart failure and was profoundly deaf. She has been home 4 years now.
At this point, Matt and Christy realized this was their calling. God has given them a unique and purposeful life to live. They realized that rather than try to put a “complete” check mark on their family that they would just be AVAILABLE. Looking to the Lord for wisdom and guidance, they would in faith step forward again in adoption if and whenever He called. That availability gave way to a domestic adoption of a little boy with Down Syndrome in the last year. He needed a family to love him forever and they knew just the one!
Currently, they are in the process to adopt a boy and a girl from Haiti. These children have significant special needs and are in their teens. They have waited a long time for a family. Matt and Christy knew they would be a perfect fit within their family. Now, they are working hard to raise the funds to bring these two children home to give them a mom and dad and a house full of siblings! Every child deserves a family and they can’t wait to give these two children a life where they will love and be loved for the rest of their lives.

As a volunteer on over 20 church-sponsored mission trips Anna had been able to love on children of all colors and languages and abilities. Where did she serve? South Carolina (4x), Bolivia (2x), Dominican Republic (9x) and Guatemala (5x). She wants to build on those life experiences and expand her family through international adoption.
Anna’s daughter is thrilled to bring these little girls home. Talks about them, asks about them, prays for them. She has remained so focused on these little ones that she asks for extra chores to earn money to contribute to the family adoptive fund. She just knows in her heart that these little girls are meant to be her sisters.
Through her years as a foster mother Anna has gathered community and resource people to surround her family to help raise her children to be contributing citizens and persons of faith. She is not alone in this quest.
Dear God, we praise you. We thank you. We ask you to protect all your children. Help us be your instruments of love to share with people all over the world…especially the orphaned children. May each one find their earthly family through your intercession. Your will be done in each life and in all things. In His name we pray. Amen and amen.
International adoption is a different process than domestic foster and adoption programs. The biggest difference is financial. Anna needs your prayer support and financial support. Help her bring these little girls home to her forever family.

Older Child Grant (age)
This policy change was made as of June 2023:
Moving forward, typical teens (13 and up) will be listed on our site if sent to us by an agency. We want to make it clear that our dedication to children with disabilities has not changed, and will remain our main focus. More and more research has come out that trauma and living in institutions is a special need also.
We will ONLY list children sent to us by agencies. This is the same across the board for all of our children. We will not be opening individual donation buttons or grants on these teens, at this time. Instead, we will use this grant pool.
We will not be posting face pics for these older children, as well. This was a decision made by our board, as a nod to the fact that typical children have different needs and we want to be very careful and conscious of respecting their privacy.
*** IF YOU ARE ON A MOBILE AND HAVING DIFFICULTY, Please sign into PayPal and send via ‘Friends and Family’ to paypal@reecesrainbow.org with ‘Older Child Grant: Age’ in the message. Thank you! ***

A GIRL for the Thurgood family — UT
Josh and Emma are beyond excited to complete their family through adoption! They have been married for 20 years and have been blessed with 3 biological children – Eli, Ollie, and Nora. Adoption has been a topic of conversation for their entire marriage and specifically adopting a child with Down syndrome. Emma started volunteering with her local special needs community when she was in high school and quickly introduced Josh to the idea when they started dating. Josh instantly found his love for those with special abilities too. They love to volunteer as a family and try to get involved with any opportunity they can!
In 2022, the family took a leap of faith and started the adoption process. While it has been a long, difficult road filled with ups, downs, heartbreaks, and triumphs, Josh and Emma made the difficult decision to switch countries in August 2024 and start fresh. They have submitted their dossier and are now waiting to be matched with one of the waiting children in Armenia.
The extensive cost of international adoption has been felt throughout this process. Please consider helping the Thurgood family bring their child home. Your financial contribution is greatly appreciated!

A dear friend, who Shelby only knew via the internet, had posted the Reece’s Rainbow profile page of a little girl with Down syndrome. Once Shelby clicked the link, she knew she was brought there for a reason. Shelby could not adopt at the time, but she discovered a deep love for advocating for these children and for the families adopting them. She continued to advocate for many years, hoping that one day, she would be on that journey to bring her own child home. She nannied and worked in a PRTF, researched and reached out to families to learn from their experiences. She did anything to take steps to prepare for the child who would one day come into her home.
Gaining strength from God through an ectopic pregnancy and a messy divorce, she picked herself back up and continued to work towards that goal. On Christmas day, 2021, covid struck hard. Shelby was in the hospital being rushed to ICU to be put on a vent, and wondered if that was the end for her. God saw her through, and she truly believes she’s still here for a reason. The calling that God laid on her heart a long time ago was more pressing than ever, and she asked herself, “Why not now?” With her supportive nanny job boss/friend, she took the first baby-step, and just kept stepping away. With your help (thanks, so much, by the way), she is baby-stepping all the way to bringing her baby home. She can’t help but feel that that dear friend who shared Reece’s Rainbow with her, all those years ago, and has since passed on to be with the Lord in Heaven, would be loving watching this all unfold. If you can’t adopt, advocate…it really does make a difference.
