From July 2014: Humphrey is active and likes crowed places; he is obstinate and must do things he wants to do; when in our institute, the caretaker who is liked by him took care of him; in foster family, foster parents take care of him. At 25 months old he could make many sounds; could call mama; could clap hands; at 26 months old: could point to or grasp ears when you ask him where his ears were; at 27 months old: we decided to look for a foster family for his better care and development; on May 9, 2014, the baby was officially admitted to foster family; the family liked him very much and bought him many new toys and clothes; the baby adjusted to new life soon; now he attends our rehabilitation trainings every day accompanied by his mom; he can imitate simple motions such as bird flying, clapping hands and raising hands; at 28 months old: through half a month’s training, he could stand with support steadily; he just will not step forward; during training, he always raise his feet naughtily to ask his mom to hold him. The baby is adorable and willing to cooperate to do rehabilitation trainings. We believe through working hard together, he will make greater progress.

By age seven, he could say some simple daily words under the teacher and mom’s patient guidance, such as: “take the candy,” “I am Harley,” etc. He can use simple words, sentences, and gestures to express his needs. When his teacher asks, “Who is your good friend, Harley?” he will point at DZ and say loudly, “DZ!” If other children scream, he will imitate his teacher and, though not clearly, he will say “softly and slowly.” He is currently learning to use personal pronouns for daily communication, such as: me and you.

At school, Harley can raise his hand and answer questions actively when asked. He positively participates in activities. He is said to like to ask the teacher questions to get to the bottom of things if it was something he did not understand. Harley’s concentration has improved too. He can listen to other children’s self introductions quietly, can identify a circle and a triangle, and can find similar shapes around him. Harley is said to be very warm towards his foster mom, teacher, and friends. When he sees his foster mom or teacher’s disheveled hair, he can help manage their hair. Harley was born with Down syndrome, but he most certainly was born with a heart of gold! It is our hope that Harley’s family sees him soon. He is certain to be a blessing!

Freddie was abandoned at 7 months old. He is diagnosed with Down Syndrome and funnel chest. Freddie’s medical information is 3 years old, but we do have some recent information from his orphanage. While we are working to get an updated medical for him, the recent report, photos, and videos can give a good picture of Freddie’s development. Neither the medical or report indicate any significant delays with his physical development.

Freddie’s videos show him walking steadily, kicking a ball, and playing with blocks, indicating that his gross and fine motor skills appear to be on target. Freddie reportedly can understand simple language and is seen following directions in his videos, though we are not sure if Freddie is able to speak. Freddie attends school in the orphanage, but there is no language training available which inhibits his ability to learn to speak. His intelligence is slightly delayed compared to his peers, but he could potentially make progress with the proper services and interventions.

Freddie is said to be outgoing, active, and loving. The orphanage reports that he can make new friends easily and he is seen playing with other children in his videos. Freddie has a sweet smile and pleasant demeanor. He has some self-care ability; he reportedly can do simple tasks alone, but needs assistance with other tasks such as taking a shower. The orphanage reports that Freddie can have bowel and bladder control, but he does not at this time.

Freddie needs the love and support of a family to help him thrive. Could Freddie find a home with your family?

Esther is an outgoing little girl who filled the room with her own high-energy sunshine when our staff saw her on a trip. Everything she saw delighted her- the giant rolling balls, brightly colored pipe cleaners, blocks to stack. She has Down syndrome, and seems to have good motor skills; she can run and jump, but her verbal skills are currently limited to “mama,” “baba,” and some expressive syllables. However she will also use gestures to express herself, and understand directions from her nannies.

This curious little girl likes playing on the playground and enjoys all sorts of toys. Her nanny told our staff she’s very good at imitating what others around her are doing. When they sit down to rest, she will pat their backs, and if other children are crying, she will comfort them with a cuddle. Her self-care skills are good, she can feed and dress herself. She has had surgery for a heart condition, and the doctor with our staff didn’t hear any murmurs.

Erica is a cheerful girl who loves to play – she plays well with other kiddos, but she is just as content playing on her own with some building blocks. She always looks at her creation afterwards and is so proud! Her nannies tell us she also loves to get her picture taken. When she sees someone with a camera she gets very excited and begins to pose for a picture – it is very cute!

Erica walks a bit slowly, but she can walk, run, jump, and go up or downstairs without any problems. She can say a few words and can understand what adults say to her. Her limb function appears to be normal and she can put on her shoes, socks, and pants on her own. Please help Erica find her forever family!

They found he has Down syndrome, and a hernia, which has not been repaired. Ennis lives with a foster mother, who loves him very much. His overall development is a bit delayed, which is to be expected. He is able to stand with just a little assistance, and will surely be walking in the next few months. Ennis has good fine motor skills. He loves to be outdoors, and loves his foster mama! He is imitating words, and his receptive speech is typical for a 2 year old…he hears what he wants to hear. Ennis needs a family of his own, who will help him reach his full potential. What a sweet son he will be! Video is available.

*** I am eligible for a $15,000 Older Child Grant! For more information or to inquire about this child, please email childinquiry@reecesrainbow.org ***
Emery is well adapted to her daily routine in the orphanage. She eats three meals a day but doesn’t have a big appetite and doesn’t care for snacks or desserts. The orphanage staff make efforts to enrich her days to help her development by watching TV, listening to music, playing with toys and taking her out for outdoor activities.

Her motion development is slightly delayed compared to other children but staff feel this is due to her being in orphanage life and not with a family. They say her opportunities are more limited there although she does participate in rehabilitation training in the institute. At the time of her report she was 3.5 years old and could sit independently, hold toys to play and walk holding the wall. She was described as being extroverted, well liked and having a ready smile. Emory could take off her socks and pants and was in good physical condition, but wasn’t yet speaking. Orphanage staff hope she will be adopted by a family who can educate her and help her grow up to be a happy girl.

When Devan was found abandoned in September 2014 it was estimated that he was about 1.5 years old. When Devan first arrived in the orphanage, he was a very unhappy baby who was very “weak and floppy”. The orphanage staff decided it would be best if he was placed with a loving experienced foster family. His foster mother worked with him diligently, and by 3 years old he was walking and potty trained. Devan does not speak well. He occasionally calls his foster father baba (dad) and sometimes when he is playing by himself he talks to himself, but others do not know what he is saying. With that being said, Devan is able to express his needs and wants. For example, whenever he gets a treat, such as a candy bar, he will place it in his foster mother’s hands and look up at her, letting her know that he wants her to open it for him. Devan has been able to learn some gestures. He will shake a persons hand when saying hello and wave good-bye to them when they leave.

Devan is described as quiet and well behaved. He likes to play with building blocks. He also enjoys playing with neighbor kids. He recently began attending school and has made great progress there.
