Mateo came into care around three years of age and he has been living in a foster family for quite some time. Since he entered the foster care program, Mateo has made big gains! His foster mother says he is a smart kid and always takes the opportunity to talk about his merits. She works hard with him in order to improve his daily living skills and independence. Mateo likes chatting with people and playing with other kids. He really enjoys dancing and singing too! He is a good helper around the house and he loves taking care of his younger foster siblings, some of whom he has already had to say goodbye to. Mateo is also said to be a good student, who likes talking to his classmates and participating in his classes. He has learned to recognize some simple shapes and some characters. He can also count to 50 and write his full name. Be sure to watch Mateo’s videos to see how well he interacts with other kids and how well he’s doing in school with counting, following instructions, and dancing. We hope that Mateo’s forever family will fall in love with his bright eyes and magical smile and that they will bring him home soon! He is an energetic little guy. When he would be laid down for a nap, he used to wiggle around to the point of trapping himself in his blanket. He knew just how to get out by giving a good cry to get his nanny to the rescue! Marcus appears to have a good attention span, and he will happily play, babble, or simply watch whatever is going on in the home. His nanny says that with his bright eyes and sweet smile, Marcus makes people want to cuddle and talk to him.

She shows how she wants to play again by grabbing her foster momma’s hand and motions to do it again. One of her favorite times of day is bath time! The sweet girl loves to splash and splash.

She is social, active and definitely not shy. She is often comforted by being held and snuggled when she is upset. Marielli was fortunate to be a part of Love Without Boundaries cleft exchange in 2012 and has had her cleft palate repaired already. Her file states that she congenital cleft palate (now repaired) and poor brain development. She is sure to be an absolute joy to a family. Who is ready to giggle and splash with Marielli?

An update received in the fall of 2015 states that Marielli is now living with a foster family. She is reported to be a healthy little girl who rarely gets sick. Compared to children of the same age, Marieli is still very delayed. She does crawl, stand, and walk with assistance. Marielli is cooperative with her caregivers, but rarely talks and says few well-pronounced words. She is happiest when her caregivers play with her, offer her toys, or hug her. Marielli has quite an appetite and eats a wide range of foods. There is a small hole in her palate, so some foods are difficult for her to eat. It is said that she is receiving rehabilitation training, but no details were given. Marielli has a fear of meeting strangers and her caregivers say she has an introverted personality.

Magnolia is a precious little girl, who is described as being extroverted and sweet tempered. She is fairly active, talkative, and has quick reaction time. Magnolia enjoys singing and listening to music. She gets along well with others and likes playing outdoors with her friends and with toy cars. Magnolia lives with a foster family and though she likes to be cuddled by her foster grandfather, she is closest with her foster grandmother. She is a good sleeper and sleeps in her own bed. She is not a picky eater, though she has been spoiled by her foster grandparents who tend to hand-feed her and let her use a bottle to drink her drinks from. Magnolia’s favorite foods are meat, dumplings, noodles, vegetables, and fruits. Magnolia can walk independently. She was able to imitate words and say simple things like, “What is this?” Her intelligence was said to be delayed compared to her peers, but her orphanage also seems to say this about many children in their care.

In January of 2014, Magnolia received surgery for lumbar spinal meningocele and hydrocephalus. She had good recovery after the surgery, though she is not toilet trained. We are unsure if that is a result of her meningocele surgery or because she just hadn’t been trained yet, but a family should be prepared for her to be incontinent. An update from August (you can read the full update below) mentions that Magnolia has had a handful of seizures over the years. Magnolia has the sweetest little face with the cutest little voice.

Magnolia has a $2,500 agency grant for her adoption with a specific adoption agency. You have to watch her sweet videos! The agency has several.

Maggie is a precious little one. She arrived at the orphanage when she was about 6 months old; a frail and quiet baby girl. She was found to have a cleft lip and palate, CHD (PDA), and the ring finger and middle finger of her left hand fused. She had the lip surgery in 2014, but no palate surgery yet, to our knowledge. Her heart defect, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, is not at all uncommon. An x-ray of her hand showed mostly adhesion of the adjacent skin of the two fingers. Maggie has delays of both motor skills and speech. It is difficult to say if the delays are due to her known medical issues (plus unknown care for her first 6 months), or if there may be another cause. We do know Maggie needs help. She needs a family to love her unconditionally, and medical care plus therapies to help her reach her full potential. Maggie needs a family.

He is able to dress himself, take care of his own toileting needs and feeds himself. His caretakers feel that he is a bright little guy although intellectually delayed compared to his peers.

He is very protective of his friends and will tell the teachers if he sees someone being bullied. He has great gross motor development, can jump, run and walk. He uses the restroom without assistance, dresses himself and can assist in folding clothes. When we met Lyle, he was the dancer of the orphanage, very social and had great fine motor skills.

He likes to be kissed on the cheek and will respond back with multiple kisses. Lyle is waiting for a family that will cover his little cheeks with kisses and shower him with love.

She can drink water out of a bottle, grasp biscuits, and use a spoon to eat. She likes to play on her own with rattles and plush toys. Lissa is a precious little one still waiting for her family to find her! Adored by her caretakers, she is described as a curious and happy little girl, who loves to eat! When she first arrived at her orphanage, she was small and weak. Intrigued by her surroundings she would observe the nannies and other children playing, smiling when teased or tickled. Over time, she has learned to trust the nannies and has become more and more adventurous, seeking out attention and interaction with her nannies and playing with the other children. She still loves to be tickled, held, and kissed, loves colorful toys that make sounds and likes to listen and dance to music.

Lissa will make eye contact and is said to be very cheerful! She is attentive when learning something new and will actively try to learn new things. Diagnosed with Down Syndrome and nystagmus of both eyes, compared to her peers her growth and development have been delayed; however, with rehabilitation training she is able to crawl, sit independently, grasp objects, and is making good progress as she continues to grow and develop. The origin of Lissa’s name, given to her by her caretakers, means ‘hope she will obtain love and be cherished.’ This little one, so clearly adored, is waiting for a family to find her who will love and cherish her delightful and adventurous little spirit! Her file is extremely detailed with a lot of wonderful developmental information and benchmarks, and we are also able to connect interested families with individuals who have visited her orphanage and were able to meet her during their visit in November 2016!

Since July 2007 he has been with a foster family. Per report written in 2010: At the age of 36-39 months he can walk alone quite steadily, and when he was walking he can stoop down to pick up the toy on ground and then go on walking. At present he can only call “baba”, but he can express his desire in body language, and if he wanted to drink water he will put his hand beside his mouth and look up. When he wanted to defecate or urinate he will make the sound and show actions familiar to his mother. Since he had learned to walk he had been very interested in outdoor activity, and he went to play games with other children in community every evening. He liked pulling his mother to go to the supermarket near to their home, and when they got there he will point at what he liked. He was very close to his father, and when his father came back home he will go out to welcome him.

At the age of 40-42 months he was very active, liked going out to play, even in cold days. He still did not speak much, besides father and mother he can say other words unclearly with the help of adults. He had to be fed, but he can drink water alone with cup with suction tubes. 43 months-present it has been too cold and he stays in house for most of the time. He likes to watch TV, and if there are children dancing in the program he will learn from them. He likes eating meat and is not choosy to food. He naps for 1-2 hours and has deep sleep. Sometimes he sleeps with adults, and sometimes he sleeps alone on his own bed. If he wants to go to toilet he will crouch and pull his trousers to tell adults sometimes. If adults remind him of going to toilet he will do so but they have to help him take off the trousers. He is very strong and seldom falls ill.

This playful, adventurous, sweet boy is Liam! He is 8 years old and will absolutely steal your heart. Liam can be quiet and introverted at times, but he is generally a very friendly kid! Whenever volunteers come to the orphanage he cannot wait to take pictures with them. He seems to have an eye for photography – he loves being in pictures and taking pictures of others. He especially likes to come up with funny poses! He can play games cooperatively with other kids, and he has a lot of fun building all kinds of structures out of blocks. Liam likes to be creative and has quite the imagination!

Liam had the opportunity to visit the US as part of the Winter 2016 China Hosting Program! He spent 3 weeks playing, learning, and laughing with his host family. Here is what they shared with us:

“Liam is a very happy little guy with the most contagious giggles you’ll ever hear, and I have no doubt that he’ll bring much joy to his forever family. He is a very energetic and active little guy who enjoys playing outside (at the playground, swinging and going down the slide are favorite activities), but he also is great at entertaining himself indoors by looking at books or “writing” (making marks on paper). He has a great imagination and especially loves to pretend to cook! He plays well with others but just as often seems to enjoy playing independently.

Liam also has a bit of a mischievous streak — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but he does sometimes need help redirecting some of his energy to a more positive activity. I did see improvement throughout his time here with his ability to be redirected, and discipline-wise, short “time-ins” where we sat together quietly on the floor seemed to be most effective.

Liam LOVES to eat…And would eat ALL the time if I let him. He is not picky at all; he’s eaten everything I’ve given him — fruit, veggies, yogurt, meat, pasta, etc. The hardest thing for him is being done with a meal/snack — even if he has had plenty to eat, he still wants more. This does seem to be getting a bit better, though.

It was fun having Liam here & seeing him come out of his shell! He definitely keeps me on my toes because he is very active/into everything, but he has a great imagination that has been fun to watch. He also really has done a GREAT job transitioning into family life/life in the US.”

You can see more photos and videos from Liam’s time in the US on his advocacy page. Liam’s nannies tell us he is learning self-care skills. His recent health has been good, and he is not currently showing any symptoms of heart disease.

Sept 2015 Update: Leon seems like a bright boy and from our short time visiting him he integrated well and seemed content. He was very smiley! A family wanting to adopt a child with Down syndrome would be very blessed by Leon.

January 2016 update: Leon is nearly ready to walk by himself! He loves to move around either by crawling or when holding onto something for support or someone’s hand he can walk. He tried taking a few steps unaided but his balance wasn’t quite there yet. He looks for things hidden such as when I put my phone under my leg he searched around for it. He is very eager to engage and play with those around him.

Leon is a cute boy who loves to get around. He crawls all over the place and will stand up and walk when holding onto something or someone! Most of all, he enjoys his independence when in the baby walker. While he feeds well from a bottle, he has not yet transitioned to solid food. Leon communicates with sounds and gestures but is not yet saying words. He is very interactive with others and smiles when he sees loved ones. He loves to reach out and be with other children as well as his caregivers. He is especially fond of hugs and watching TV.

A specific adoption agency is offering a $1500 grant towards Leon’s adoption!
