He can stand with support and will side step when holding on to something. He picks up toys, moves them from hand to hand and attempts to manipulate them. He interacts with staff members and other children. He reacts positively when he is given attention from adults and willingly interacts during therapy sessions and time with his teacher at the orphanage.
Phillip has a significant language delay, but his vocabulary and verbal productions are increasing. He communicates using single words, gestures, and signs. He recognizes and points out his body parts, imitates animal sounds, follows rhythms, dances and sings songs. He understands and performs routine and simple tasks. Phillip enjoys to interacting with adults and peers. He looks for help in adults when he has needs.

Tatum has no active use of her arms or hands (they are flaccid). No official diagnosis has been given. Tatum is very skilled with using her feet for fine motor tasks and uses them to eat with a spoon and to write. She has beautiful penmanship! She can criss cross her legs and sit comfortably on the floor. She is not an independent walker and has weak core muscles. She gets around the home by scooting on her bottom and she can also scoot down stairs.
Tatum has a sweet and kind personality. She likes to play with and watch over the younger kids in the home. She is interested in painting and singing. She also enjoys entertaining her caregivers! Tatum has good language and communication skills and expresses her needs and feelings to her caregivers. Her caregivers report that she is a happy and content child with appropriate emotional behavior.
Tatum attends a local school. Due to a late start in formal education, she is behind where she should be but appears to have no intellectual delay. She loves school and typically receives A and A+ grades. She also enjoys participating in school activities and performances. Tatum is very bright and is eager to learn.
Tatum has a charming, endearing personality and is well liked by her teachers, her caregivers, and the other kids in the home. She is an absolute joy and would thrive with more resources and with the love and stability of a family.
Melanie enjoys playing with musical toys, toys that stack, toys with small parts that fit inside, trying to trace letters with chalk, and throwing and trying to catch balls. Able to concentrate on one toy for a sustained period of time. Follows directions well. Prefers soft solid foods and favorite food is eggs. Loves the beach. She can go up and down stairs by herself holding the railing. She enjoys being with other people and is friendly with adults and children.
March 2020 Update: Melanie is working on a number of daily living skills. She is eating independently, able to wash her hands with verbal prompts, and working on other skills such as getting dressed independently. She is able to identify colors as well. Melanie is currently working towards the goals of saying her name, drawing shapes, and increasing her sounds and words.
Oct 2020 Update: Jamila had recurring illnesses this year and it was discovered that she was aspirating. A feeding tube was placed and she has been healthy since! Even when she was in the hospital she always had a smile on her face. Jamila loves being silly and loves being the center of attention! Jamila has been talking so much more lately! It can’t always be understood exactly what she’s saying, but she’s really trying hard to speak and is making a lot of progress. Jamila loves wearing fancy shoes all the time. She picks out her outfits every day and knows what she likes!
She wants adult’s attention and likes to lean on an adult, sit in their lap, and give hugs. Her fine and gross motors skills development are adequate. She is friendly with adults and children.
Riley is very emotional. He seeks contact with other persons and obviously expresses joy when he is provided with individual attention. He most often communicates by mimicking, but he has started to speak – still his articulation is not correct, his language comprehension still has some limits. Sometimes he has difficulty during the eating time, and needs assistance with hygiene/self-care. His balance and coordination is disturbed. Riley has difficulty to follow the rules and order in the group. Riley’s behavior sometimes distracts other children’s activities. He has been observed to have self-aggression. His mood changes often.
Phineas needs a loving family that can provide a nurturing environment, felt safety, and knowledge regarding older child adoption.
Jovan is a very good boy, likes to be closed to a person, communicates with social worker, is sensitive. He has good memory, likes to tell stories and is very happy when the care giver is listening to him and asks questions as he likes to answer the questions. Is able to learn a short poem by heart, likes to play and participate at the musical activities. Has a very good sense for rhythm, dances. Likes to work with puzzles, and coloring books. Can name animals, colors, knows letters and numbers, is very noticeable and polite. But sometimes is upset and stubborn, it is observed if communication with him is gentle his stubbornness disappears and he becomes of a very good mood.
Hailey is described by her caregivers as mild, positive, vivacious and well-behaved. She’s small for her age, wears glasses and has a small vocabulary. She’s easily distracted but has made great improvement in comprehension. Hailey’s a warm-hearted girl who finds pleasure in helping others. She remembers her birth family but is excited to start a new life with an adoptive family—as long as she isn’t separated from her brother.
Hugh is filled with curiosity about the world, often asking “why?” He speaks well and is reported to cooperative and able to follow rules. Like his big sister, he’s easily distracted but he works hard on his schoolwork. He attends primary school and mixes well with the other kids his age. His caregivers describe him as a good boy, energetic and usually happy. He’s been very clear he wants to be adopted with his sister.
Brandt had a complicated birth history, and was premature. He typically wears glasses. Brandt needs a prospective adoptive family with excellent educational resources including ESL support, and a good understanding of developmental trauma, institutionalization and older child adoption. He needs a family that is open to some unknowns.
