He is especially close to one of the “little sisters” in his room. He likes to exchange toys with her. When he goes to bed, he likes to reach his hand to the neighboring crib to hold her hand and play with her. Dillan was born with a VSD heart condition, but it has since been repaired. His nannies say he has been very healthy recently and he is rarely sick. Dillan is very observant and understands what is said to him. Update from January 2021:  Dino is well behaved, a little shy, but when he knows you, he is quite active.  He is attached to his caretakers and knows how to make them happy. He knows to care for others. He likes hugs.

Dino enjoys cuddling and sometimes acts spoiled, but is obedient and gets along well with the other children. He is an active and restless little toddler, with a big smile and long eyelashes. He likes to sit in his stroller out in the sunshine, and will lift up his legs to peel off his socks! Dino has Down syndrome and has been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect (PDA), but has not received any surgery for it.

From a September 2018 update: Dino likes climbing and standing, but needed support for walking. He plays with other children, and will clap while looking in the mirror. He likes swinging with the children and building blocks with the other children during group class. He can tear paper and use his pincer fingers to grab things.  His language was not clear, but he will laugh and try to imitate sounds. He recognizes familiar people and understands adult facial expressions. He is a lively baby. After getting acquainted with others, he will often show a cute smile and two cute little dimples.  At this time he has not needed to undergo any heart surgery, as his heart is doing fine.

Dobie is a delightful little boy with a love for music and dancing. In April of 2016, Dobie was moved from his orphanage to a foster family. Dobie can say dad and mum and can turn his head when called. When strangers try to hold him, he goes to his foster parents and shakes his head, refusing to let them hold him. He can wave goodbye, clap his hands, and copy his foster mother’s dance moves, putting his hands up in the air and shaking his body to the beat. Dobie can stand up from a sitting position and walk short distances. He makes a lot of sounds and loves to babble. He seems to be very on target developmentally in comparison to other children with down syndrome his age.

Dobie enjoys playing with his older foster brother and playing outside. If his foster brother is being bossy, he will hit him with a toy and sometimes bite him- he certainly knows how to stand up for himself! Dobie loves it when his foster mom holds his hand and his foster mother says he is a smart and flexible little boy. He will take the bottle when someone fills it up to drink on his own. He likes to eat apples and jelly the most. Dobie can learn how to play with a toy quickly after being taught. He really likes the toy trumpet. Dobie also likes playing with small balls, toy cars, and watching tv.

When Devan was found abandoned in September 2014 it was estimated that he was about 1.5 years old. When Devan first arrived in the orphanage, he was a very unhappy baby who was very “weak and floppy”. The orphanage staff decided it would be best if he was placed with a loving experienced foster family. His foster mother worked with him diligently, and by 3 years old he was walking and potty trained. Devan does not speak well. He occasionally calls his foster father baba (dad) and sometimes when he is playing by himself he talks to himself, but others do not know what he is saying. With that being said, Devan is able to express his needs and wants. For example, whenever he gets a treat, such as a candy bar, he will place it in his foster mother’s hands and look up at her, letting her know that he wants her to open it for him. Devan has been able to learn some gestures. He will shake a persons hand when saying hello and wave good-bye to them when they leave.

Devan is described as quiet and well behaved. He likes to play with building blocks. He also enjoys playing with neighbor kids. He recently began attending school and has made great progress there.

Look at the smile on Dax! Isn’t he the cutest? In August of 2018 the orphanage staff said the following: Dax is an active, outgoing and optimistic child. He gets along well with others and is so adored. Motor skills and fine motor skills: he is able to turn his head to left and right side freely; he can hold his head up while lying on the stomach; he can roll over freely, can stand for a moment with hands holding the support. He is very naughty and always puts his hands into his mouth. He is wonderful, he can clap his hands and beat the toy; he can grasp the object with his thumb and other fingers.

He knows to locate the direction of sounds, can visually move follow the moving people or object; he can grasp and beat the toy with hands, or put the toy into his mouth to bite; sometimes he clasps the object directly. Dax knows to get the adult’s attention by crying so that his needs are met. He laughs loudly when happy; he listens to the adult carefully when he is cuddled. He begins to babble. At the same time he makes two or more words, such as da-da-da, a-ba-ba; he recognizes his familiar sounds. Dax is outgoing, optimistic and active; he enjoys that someone is speaking to him. Could you be the family for this much adored child?

Sixteen month old Colt is a curious toddler who loves music! Whenever he hears it, he follows the music to shake and dance. Life of the party! His developmental report was completed in June when he was 13 months old. At that time, Colt could raise his head when lying on his stomach, turn over by himself, and grasp his feet to play. He loved to tease people. He will stick is tongue out, make faces and laugh. When he’s excited he says things like, “Ah ba da!” He babbles in response to people. When he goes outside, he is very curious about his surroundings. He engages people with eye contact, and he can nod his head for “yes.” He is strong-willed, and if he doesn’t like what you’re doing, he lets you know! Colt is closest to his caretaker. He enjoys colorful toys that make sounds. Colt was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, and he has had surgery to correct an atrial septal defect.

Conner is an adorable little boy, born in May of 2014 with down syndrome and anal atresia. He has had three surgeries, including a colostomy and anoplasty. Conner receives early childhood education and rehabilitation to work on his cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, and language abilities. After just two months of this, he started learning how to make friends, share, and get around better. Conner likes giving his foster siblings kisses and helping hold their bottles for them. He will even help wipe their mouths like a good big brother. Over time, he has learned how to feed himself with a spoon. He can take off his own shoes and likes to organize all the other shoes. He tries to put on his own socks and shoes, but needs a little assistance getting the shoes on the right feet. He can understand simple language, basic directions, and he reads facial expressions very well. When he sees his foster mother smiling at him, he will smile back, be good, and snuggle up in her arms quietly. If someone is looking at him with a not so nice face, he will make a serious face and play by himself. He gets upset when he is criticized for making a bad choice.

Conner can go up and down stairs on his own now. He has been watching his foster mother carefully over time and has learned how to help his foster mother care for his younger foster sister. He can put his little sister’s diaper, sweater, shoes, socks and coat near his foster mother’s side in sequence and throw her used diaper into the trash can. He can call “dad, dad, mom, mom.” Conner likes watching cartoons and listening to and dancing to children’s songs. He can choose his favorite picture book and ‘read.’ Conner also enjoys painting, playing with play dough, and stringing the toy blocks. He likes playing outdoors with other children too. There, he will help pick fruit, look for flowers, and dig in the dirt. He is said to be happy every day! We know Conner’s going to make a great son! Could your family be the one Conner will call his forever family?

Colby is a precious boy who has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (Congenital Heart Defect). From observation, the heart condition has no obvious affect on daily life.

Colby is active, extroverted, and smiles often. When Colby hears music on the radio, he dances with joy. He does well in dance class and has a good sense of rhythm. Colby also enjoys playing games with other children and likes to watch cartoons.

Update 2016:
Colby is very good at imitating; in his music and dance class, he learned a whole entire dance routine after being shown the first time! He has come a long way since his early days at the orphanage. At first, he was withdrawn and did not actively engage with others. Nowadays, he’s quite active and extroverted—he actively participates in all classroom activities. Although he was diagnosed with Down syndrome and has cognitive delays, his language ability has greatly improved. Every day before school, he’ll wave and say goodbye to his foster mom. When he comes home from school, he’ll say “hello mother” and “hello father” in his native language. Colby knows all the names of his foster family members, and can name common objects and foods. He has some challenges with expressive language but he’s quite good at understanding others. He has great self-care skills such as putting on his clothes and shoes, using the restroom, brushing his teeth, washing his face, and feeding himself. Colby gets along well with other children and likes to play games with them.

His report states that he has a congenital heart defect but that it does not have any obvious effects on his day-to-day life; he hasn’t received surgery for his heart as of May 2016. An agency staff member met him on a recent Journey of Hope trip to China and found that he’s quite talented and showed off his martial art and rollerblading skills! He can speak words and simple sentences, but also communicates through pointing, touch, and body language. He’s been living with his foster family for about 5 years and they shared that he’s a great helper around the house and loves outdoor activities.

Written Update: Colette relies on formula and she cannot swallow food. Our working staff help her with physical therapy every day, aiming at improving her limbs’ muscle strength. In the afternoon, she is taken to the function room, mainly receiving training for her speech and limbs coordination. Colette gets along well with her caretakers and her little friends. She is active and likes crawling around. When she finds something solid, she will climb over it and stand up. When she sees something (such as toys) interesting, she will try to get it by crawling or moving her body with the support of her upper limbs. Now she can crawl or stand up/walk when holding onto something.

Adorable Colletta is quite the giggler! She loves playing with toys and looking at herself in a mirror! Sweet Colletta is described as alert, timid, and quiet. At the time her file was prepared, she was crawling with her elbows alternately and she could sit with support. She often liked to find a special duck toy, which she would put in her mouth to bite. When the duck toy made sound, Colletta would burst into giggles! Colletta receives rehabilitation for language and limb flexibility every morning and afternoon. Although she wasn’t saying words at the time her file was prepared, she was babbling a lot! In addition to having Down syndrome, Colletta has an abdominal scar. A U.S. physician who examined her in April of 2016 wasn’t sure what it was from, but believes it may be from a feeding tube before she was brought to the orphanage. She was also found to have a heart murmur.

During an orphanage visit in April of 2016, Colletta was observed to be a pretty baby girl who was very alert and engaged in her surroundings. While in therapy training, she was very agreeable and went along with the exercises. When sitting up, she looked around a lot and babbled more than any other baby they saw that day. Caregivers said it was typical for her to babble a lot. She could roll over and sit with support. When placed on the mat, she stayed in one place and was very content. Caregivers say she is an easygoing baby. We hope to be able to get an update on Colletta and can’t wait to see who Colletta’s lucky family will be!

There is a $2,500 agency grant for Colletta’s adoption with a specific adoption agency.

June 2021 Written Update:

Her cognitive abilities match with a two and a half year-old kid. She has developmental delays. Her language skills and cognitive skills are low. She can dress and undress herself, put on and take off her shoes alone, eat by herself, and cover herself with a quilt. She is potty trained. She knows how to go alone to the bathroom or how to ask someone to take her there. She is stubborn. When someone criticizes her, she will be annoyed and sometimes cry. Her gross motor skills are fine. She can run, jump, climb stairs. She can walk independently horizontally on the balance beam. She can eat by herself with a spoon. She does not know to write, but she can draw and color. She can say some letters and repeat a few words. She can follow simple instructions. She loves to play with the other kids her age. She is very active and happy when playing with her peers. She does not have a special attachment to someone, but she has a very good relationship with all the kids.

Updated from 2019: Coco is an adorable and smart little girl, who loves to interact with others! Coco learns so much by observing her nannies. One of her caregivers shared this sweet story in her file: “I asked her “Coco, Where are your ears?” She didn’t seem to know. I touched her ear with my hand and told her “Coco’s ears are here.” Then I pulled my own ears as well and repeated telling her “ear, ear.” Then after about three minutes of playing, I asked her again “where are Coco’s ears?” She thought a while, looked at me, walked to me, and pulled my ears. We all laughed! Then I asked again “Where are Coco’s ears?” She then withdrew her hands and touched her own ears.” Coco goes to preschool in her orphanage. Right now she is learning how to count and recognize Chinese characters. She can say simple words and phrases. She plays well with other children and she can follow her nanny’s instructions.

MANY VIDEOS are available of this darling girl!  The videos below are from a 2021 update!
