Oskar is an extroverted and handsome boy, born in July of 2010, who usually has a huge smile on his face, whether he is at home or at school! His smile is so amazing that he makes everyone around him happy just by being with him. Oskar lives with an English speaking foster family. He loves to play with other children as well as the family’s pets. He is behind other children from a motor standpoint, but his foster mother says he is very smart and points to all his body parts, can sort and stack blocks, and can problem solve. He has been receiving rehabilitation for his cerebral palsy and has continued to make gains. He has a walker and a wheelchair, but does not like to use them. He would rather hold an adult’s hand to walk. Oskar has an amazing spunk and determination. He is not speaking yet, but is learning sign language and now knows about 500 signs. This has really helped him communicate better with the adults around him. Oskar would benefit from continued use of basic sign language and speech therapy. We hope to find Oskar a family because we know he’ll not only make a great son, but that a family will be blessed daily by his presence.

September 2017 Update: Oskar’s mental capability is like any other 7-year-old boy his age. He has CP (Cerebral Palsy). It does not affect him mentally, but it effects his walking and speaking. He also gets easier tired than other kids his age. At the end of the day he usually is so ready for bed. He is potty trained. Oskar is a very fun and active boy. He is so boy and his CP does not hold him back to want to do everything all the other boys do in his age. He is very extroverted and loves going outside. He loves sport, as in swimming, playing ball, taking walks (usually on his car). He is very competitive – which usually shows itself when we play board games. He is a very social boy and loves to hang out with his foster siblings and friends. His love language is touch. Hugging and kissing him as well as encouraging him with words of affirmation get the best out of him. Although he is usually very brave, he is afraid of the dark and won’t go anywhere if there is no light. When he came to his foster home, as a three-year-old, he had to learn what rules are and how to keep them. He has improved so much in the last four years. He sometimes still is a bit stubborn and tries to get his way through crying, but it is now much more according to his appropriate age. His foster family has found out, that if they explain to him ahead of time what will happen, why he will need to share something, why he will not be able to go along with them, why he should not do something or change his behavior, he then will obey very well.

When Oskar came to his foster home, he was only able to crawl. He now can walk by himself through the whole house. He can get up by himself and walk for a short distance. When holding onto a ladder, he can walk up some stairs. But as soon as goes out, he usually uses an electric wheelchair or a stroller to get somewhere. When they get to the place, he usually wants to get out of the wheelchair and walk around with their help. He is daily improving in his walking and his foster mom believes, that with some therapy and some support as in leg braces, he should be able to walk stable one day. But so far, he still needs support from us. His foster family is working on his fine motor skills. He still mostly scribbles. Not because he does not know his ABC, but because his fine motor skills with his hands are a bit hard for him. Last week though he wrote his name all by himself on a piece of paper, and it was readable. When his foster mom asks him to color a picture, he usually always draws out of the box. It makes him mad because he knows it should not look like that. Basically, he can pick up anything with his fingers, hold a pen, open stuff, just not draw very well. In the morning, he goes to Chinese kindergarten. In the afternoon, he is home-schooled in English, Math, and sign language (ASL). In Math, he is learning numbers from 1-20. We just started learning some addition. Books we use for him in Math as well as English are Kindergarten level (Pre K). He knows about 500 words in sign language by now, which has helped so much in communicated with him. He understands English as well as Chinese. He is very much attached to his foster mom and loves his foster siblings a lot. His social skills are good. When friends come over to play, he will find something to play with them. He especially likes hanging out with other boys his age. Even though he cannot speak, he will find a way to make them understand him. He had no problem with interacting with adults. Oskar has been living since the age of 3 in the same foster home. His foster mom is from Germany (but only speaks English to him). Before that he lived in the orphanage. He can only say a few words: mama, more, move; everything else he communicates in sign language. He can follow directions in three steps. He understands everything you say and can do it. He shares a room with his younger foster brother.

His foster mom only speaks English to him so his English is quite good. In his 4 years that he has been in his foster home, he has seen about 6 of his foster siblings being adopted. His foster mom openly talks about adoption and prepares the kids well for the possibility of being adopted. Oskar has been praying for his own mom and dad for a long time now. He understands what it means (as far as a kid can understand) and is waiting for his own mom and dad to show up. He also prays to have some siblings of his own, that will play with him. He has now even started to pray for grandparents of his own. His favorite color is green. If he plays a game it has to be green, if he gets clothes or a toy they have to be green, if he likes something it has to be green. Board games are his most favorite activity. But he also loves to play with toys, play Lego, play with superheroes, or go on outings. He also loves it to be read books to, or look at pictures books by himself. It is hard to say what his favorite toy is, since he does not have one in specific. He loves to play with cars, super heroes, look at books … any toy other boys his age would like to play with.

Olivia is an energetic, smiley, and beautiful little girl who likes listening to music and playing outside. She is especially close to her caregivers and loves to be cuddled and tickled by them. Olivia is diagnosed as having microphthalmia, which means that both of her eyes are very small and underdeveloped. She also has very low muscle tone. She is able to stand with support, but she can’t walk yet. Her caregivers have been working with her, but she still struggles to move independently. She can sit up for about 30 minutes, but she gets tired and often needs support. She knows her name, responds when called, and can follow simple instructions. She can make sounds like “ah,” but doesn’t say any words. She gets excited when her caregivers tell her it’s snack time or time to go play! Olivia has some feeding issues. She mainly eats soft foods like mashed vegetables. She has a hard time swallowing and needs food chopped up for her. She really likes to hold her bottle herself. Olivia is in a school program in her orphanage during the week days and lives with a foster family on the orphanage grounds the remainder of the time. Olivia is making progress, but what she needs most is a family who can provide her with love and therapies that are simply not available in her orphanage!

Olivia has a $500 agency grant, with her current adoption agency. Olivia needs a family with an approved home study to be able to hold her file or move forward with adopting her.

From a family who met him: “Sweet Olivier! I had so much fun with him when I was in his orphanage and am saddened that his family hasn’t found him yet. This little guy was just incredible!!! Oliver was born in March of 2011 and completely stole my heart. This little boy has Down Syndrome and a partial left hand. As the mother of a child with a similar limb difference I can tell you missing a few fingers isn’t going to slow Oliver down at all! Just by spending a few hours with him I got the feeling he is a very bright and curious little boy. He even tried to imitate me speaking English by repeating the word “book.”

Olivier is diagnosed with down syndrome and a partial left hand. He lives in a foster family on the grounds of the orphanage and participates in the Infant and Parenting program. His report describes him as extroverted, active, and energetic. He likes to communicate and play games with children. Olivier’s favorite activities are playing with blocks, balls and riding bike. He can walk, can transfer positions when squatting, he can kick the football, go upstairs and downstairs with hands held. He can build a tower of 4 blocks, can dismantle the toy and assemble it again. He is very clever and can express his needs. An orphanage project team visited with Olivier last summer.

Oliver is too cute for words! Oliver is described by his caretakers as extroverted, active, curious, and adorable! All of Oliver’s nannies like him a lot and have nicknamed him ‘Hao Hao.’ Oliver loves to be outside and he is extra happy when it’s sunny, as he likes to bask in the sunshine and feel it’s warmth. He also enjoys listening to music and playing with his friends. Oliver’s favorite toys are toys that are colorful and those that make sound. He loves the sound bells make. When someone rings one, he will reach out his hands to take it and then ring it and laugh happily. He will then give the bell to another child so that child can share in his happiness! Oliver also likes to clap his hands and play hand clapping games with his nannies. He is very interactive and loves to laugh. At the time his file was prepared, Oliver was understanding the nannies’ directions and was making sounds. He could walk by holding onto something. Oliver is a good eater and his favorite food is noodles. He is also a good sleeper. We know this little sweetheart is going to bless a lucky family that says yes to being his forever! Could that family be yours?

There is a $1,500 agency grant for Oliver’s adoption with his current adoption agency. Oliver needs a family with an approved home study to be able to hold his file or move forward with adopting him.

Are you ready for some darling dancing baby boy cuteness this morning? Meet Nolan! Nolan is described as quiet and shy. His file says he cries very sad tears when he is left by familiar people. Doesn’t that make you want to scoop him up and keep him close forever? He is learning to walk and takes several steps independently, or at least he was when his file was prepared a couple of months ago. I bet he is walking and running by now. He is also learning to communicate his needs. He understands simple commands. I had to laugh when I read that he favorite activity is football. Not bad for a baby who wasn’t quite walking!

Nelton underwent a comprehensive assessment and joined a special education program inside the institute. We have a specialized teacher that plans specific content for him to learn every day. Since he began the special education class, Nelton has greatly improved. He is very interested in learning mathematics, art, and music. Everything that he studies, he is able to really know. Now, Nelton has learned how to count from 1 – 20 and he can write Arabic numerals from 1 – 10. He has even learned how to sing children’s songs, dance, and draw. His passion is drawing. One time when he went to class with good behavior, the teacher rewarded him with a watercolor brush. After he returned to his room, he first showed it off to everyone, and then he started to paint on the wall a house, sun, clouds, grass, kittens…After a while, when he was finished with his “great composition,” even though he drew on the wall, we had no choice but to say Nelton’s painting is truly very good, and therefore the nannies still praise him. He is the “Little Artist” of the Children’s Department, but he never brags about it. He usually takes the initiative to teach the other children.

Nelton’s comprehension abilities, language organization abilities, and expression abilities are all very good. He is capable of understanding adults, and is even able to fluidly express his own opinions, and at times, he runs into differing opinions with the nannies. He will “argue strongly on just grounds” and he can even persuade the nannies. He also understands politeness. When he sees someone he will take the initiative to greet them, and when he sees someone off, he will say “good-bye.”

Nathan’s spine is slightly lateral bending, but this does not affect his walking ability; he can hold the railing to go upstairs and downstairs; sometimes he can jump in place with both feet; can trot to chase us or toys; can also understand our orders to put the toys to appointed place. If there are new toys he will he happy to point them to us, and show us how to get toys disassembly and assembly; after he gets the toys disassembly and assembly he then hand us to look at his works. We will thumbs up and praise him, then he will laugh more happily. When we teach him to do new playing methods, he will play after watching once.

Nathan has a good memory. He is good at observing, and he is curious about new things. He likes to be noisy, and he likes to play with us, likes to play outdoors; not afraid of strangers; not afraid of dogs, seeing dogs he will follow dogs to walk. He also likes to watch artist programs, and ball games. Every time he will watch carefully. Sometimes he can imitate us to dance, and he can dance well.

He is curious about new things, and has a strong imitation ability; but he doesn’t have a good sense of danger. In this aspect he needs to be supervised. He has his own personality; sometimes he is obstinate. Nathan is lovely, optimistic, and clever.

Nathaniel is healthy, but has had nutritional deficits, most likely related to emotional and safety needs. We are pleased with his healthy head of hair now, that shows he’s so much healthier. Nathaniel clearly needs glasses, and we think this would open up the world for him, but where he lives we’ve not been able to get him tested properly. He doesn’t use words to communicate, but understands words spoken to him. He has high needs for touch, cuddles, and would suit a family where those things are given freely and often, and where he can bond with his people. Nathaniel has grown in confidence and security in recent months, shown by him initiating more independent play. He is kind to his peers and loving to the adults in his life. He is sensitive, cries to express his needs, and what he wants more than anything in the world is time.

Nathaniel lives in a small group home, and is making great progress. Other pictures and additional information are available, for interested families.

Nate is a gorgeous and active 14 month-old baby boy who likes being held by his caretaker. Nate likes bright colors and listening to music. He enjoys playing with the music rattle toy attached to his crib. He is attached to his caregiver and is very happy when he sees his caregiver coming, especially if she is holding a bottle of milk or toys. He will reach out his hands to ask for them and his face is full of happiness. He reacts to sounds around him and if he’s upset, he’ll calm down once held. When the weather is nice, Nate spends time outside to get some fresh air, play in the grass, and look at flowers. He is always happy to be outside and to watch other kids play. Nate bathes daily in the summer and three times a week in the winter. He loves being in the water and will kick the water with his feet, while holding onto the sides or onto a caregiver with his arms. Nate’s file was prepared in January. At that time, he could turn over with a bit of help, hold up his head while laying on his stomach, and grab toys or other people’s hands. He was making babbling sounds. Nashville was found abandoned when he was around 6 months old and a birth note was with him indicating his age. He has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Nashville was described by orphanage staff as being lively, active and extroverted. They said he liked to play with other children and enjoyed time with adults as well. He doesn’t like to share treats with others but is generous with his caretaker. He is able to play alone.

Agency staff met Nashville in November 2017 and said he is very ticklish! He responded to voices, turned to locate sounds and could follow a moving object with his eyes. He could search for dropped items, build a tower with blocks and play games like patty cake. He could laugh, imitate words and vocalize sounds like “mama.” Nashville was able to hold a crayon and scribble on paper, throw a ball, run and jump. He lives with a foster family and had 2 foster siblings in his home. Caretakers said he eats well and is very playful. They hope he will find a family to love him.

Sweet little Naomi is described by her caregivers as cute and full of energy! At the time her file was prepared, she was crawling everywhere and pulling to stand. Whenever her nannies called her name, she would crawl quickly to them and hold her arms out to be picked up. Naomi loves being held, playing with toys, and playing with her little friends. She is fond of music and will rock her body to the rhythm. She is not shy around strangers and has a ready smile. Naomi entered the care of the orphanage at just two days old. Soon after, she was sent for surgery due to anal atresia. A sigmoid colostomy was done at that time. When Naomi was five months old, it was confirmed that she had a congenital heart defect (minor PFO). Naomi is a precious little girl and we are hoping to get an update on her to see how she is doing now!

She has received pre-school education at the orphanage. Naomi has been living in a foster family at the orphanage. She is attached to her foster mother. She likes to play with other kids.  Naomi isn’t speaking yet, but she follows directions and dresses herself. She is not picky about food and she will eat everything.  Naomi enjoys playing outside!

She gives thumbs ups, is speaking a few simple words, and blows kisses. She needs help getting dressed, but puts on her own shoes. She has started potty training. She is good at imitating and her caregivers describe her as sweet and engaging.

Nancy needs a family of her own. Anyone’s life would be brighter with Nancy’s hugs in it! Additional information and photos can be found in this blog post.

He likes to play with a rattle, and when he hears the rattle he will raise his head to look for it. Nanne likes to sleep on his stomach, and if other people move him he will cry. Nanne does not like to watch TV, and he is not very interested in cell phones or picture books. When the nannies take things and tease him, he knows where to look and laughs. The child can recognize familiar people near to him, and is able to remember 3 to 4 people. When he sees familiar people he wants a hug.

Nanne is an especially cute child. Everyone really likes him. From her 2012 file- Nannette has normal body and intellectual development. At the age of 4 years, she can take care of herself, have a meal, go to toilet, read, and draw lines and scribble. She can walk and run. Nannette’s Language, personality and emotion development is delayed. She is introverted and not talkative. Usually when she communicates with adults, she can understand adults, but she responds less or responds in a low voice, we can’t hear clearly. When Nannette gets along with children, she is talkative and usually happy. In her diet, she has good appetite and good digestion; when it’s time for meal, she is anxious about, even loses her temper. In life, Nannette is an obedient child, and often willing to help the aunt to do something that she can do, such as putting away milk containers, taking diapers, picking up garbage and taking out the trash and so on. Now with her growing slowly, she can learn from imitating continuously, and learns more and more. Now she can draw lines and scribbles and sing children’s songs and so on.

From his August 2014 file: Moses can now sit alone, walk independently for a few steps, and can clap his hands. He is active and he sometimes will make sounds by clapping his mouth to draw people’s attention.

He likes to sit in his walker and to walk by holding onto the chair. He is afraid of plush toys and dolls. He does not like deep colored things and he will not touch them. He does not like to eat chocolate cake, but he does like chewy snacks like crackers and he also likes to eat apples. Moses likes to ride the rocking horse the best. When he is tired of rocking, he will look at you and if you rock the horse for him, he will laugh happily. He has a strong imitating ability. All he needs now is for his family to see him and bring him home!

When Minerva came she looked petite and weak, and was hospitalized for care and surgery. She has delayed physical development compared with children of her age, but after the operation her physical health is fairly stable and her motor ability improves day by day. She is able to raise her head when lying on stomach, and turn over continuously. She likes to roll over to and fro on the mat best. She is able to sit alone for a moment with both hands against the floor, even occasionally stand for a few seconds with both hands grasping the rail. Her muscular tension is higher, she can not coordinate and control her body well. If her name is called or someone talks beside her ear she is able to turn around her head to locate the source following the sound direction. The muscular tension of her neck has decreased obviously, therefore its turning range is much larger.

If you move a toy with bright colors slowly in front of her eyes she will follow the toy visually. She is able to grasp a toy and shake it to and fro with her hands. She is an introverted and quiet baby, is able to lie alone for some time without noisy crying, but if she is made to practice sitting with her hands against the floor she will be very reluctant and cry aloud. Her crying is very loud and we can hear it from far away. She also likes to be cuddled by someone and her facial expressions and actions will be much richer while she is cuddled. Her speech development is delayed. She is a light sleeper.

When she was 4 years old she was receiving some education, motor and language training. She crawled quickly and could stand and walk with support. She was extroverted and smiled a lot. She liked to play with friends, understood simple instructions, knew the names of body parts, could call “mom” and waved her hands to express “good-bye.”

In May 2018 it was reported that she could walk and run on her own. She used a spoon to feed herself, could follow simple instructions and could play with toys alone. Her intelligence was said to be delayed and although she couldn’t yet speak in full sentences she could say simple words like, “thank you” and understood other people.

Update & video available from 2019: Meghan is said to be an active and cute girl who likes posing for pictures! She enjoys going out to play and interacting with other children. She can kick and bounce a ball, walk freely, feed and dress herself, dance, sing, and string beads. She understands her teacher’s instructions and imitates well. Meghan likes to interact with people and expects someone to take her out to play.

She is afraid of strangers, but will actively ask for hugs from the nanny who cares for her. Being held is one of her very favorite things! Melody will let her nanny know she is not happy if the nanny holds another child first or is too busy to hold her. Melody reacts when called and can understand simple instructions. She is now saying some single words and will say a sentence every once in a while, but it is hard to understand. She is finally walking and appears very small for her age.

Agency staff have met her multiple times and note that she is sweet, has a precious laugh, doesn’t cry much, is often happy, and is a good sleeper. One of our traveling families even had the blessing of meeting her last year. Melody will surely bring so much joy to her forever family!

Meadow is a beautiful girl who was found as a newborn and was moved into a foster family in May of 2016. She adapted to her foster family quickly and has a good routine schedule, including a daily nap. Meadow has a good appetite and is not a picky eater. She loves the snacks her foster mother gives her between meals. Meadow takes a bath twice a day in the summer and once in the winter, generally before going to bed. She is currently in diapers. Meadow was born with down syndrome and heart defects (ASD, VSD, and PDA). In November of 2015, she underwent surgery to repair her VSD and ASD and had a PDA ligation with tricuspid valvuloplasty. Her file mentioned her receiving a temporary pacemaker. In September of 2016, she had a brain MRI- there were no abnormal findings, but they did note that she had bilateral mastoiditis. Also at that time, she had genetic testing done and it was found that Meadow had alpha thalassemia (meaning she is just a carrier). A couple days later she had a mass on her neck looked at and nothing abnormal was found.

Meadow is not speaking yet, but she can turn her head when her name is called. She likes playing with adults and will often babble happily when playing alone. Meadow can sit and turn over on her own. She uses gestures to communicate- such as purposely putting her foot on her foster mother while lying on the bed or tugging at her clothes or wrist when she sees people eating. Meadow enjoys playing with dolls and giggling. A family will be blessed to have this little angel as a part of their family!

Maximilian is an adorable little guy who recently turned 3 years old. He came into care as a newborn, and was diagnosed with CP. Max has good fine motor skills, excellent speech (although they say he has a short tongue tie), and is able to walk…but not for long distances. Max’s head tilts to the right; this could be a result of the CP. Maximilian is a delightful little boy, whose cognitive skills are on target. His receptive speech is great, and he follows instructions well. He can easily express his needs. The nannies describe him as “strong and brave”. They also said when he sees the other kids walking and doing things he would like to do he wants to be like them. Max works very hard when exercising…he wants to be strong and able to run and play with his friends. Max need a family, good therapy, and treatment to straighten his neck. Max needs you!

Mateo is a smiley, outgoing, responsible, and very loving boy, with Down syndrome, a right eye sty, and a right undescended testicle. Mateo came into care around three years of age and he has been living in a foster family for quite some time. Since he entered the foster care program, Mateo has made big gains! His foster mother says he is a smart kid and always takes the opportunity to talk about his merits. She works hard with him in order to improve his daily living skills and independence. Mateo likes chatting with people and playing with other kids. He really enjoys dancing and singing too! He is a good helper around the house and he loves taking care of his younger foster siblings, some of whom he has already had to say goodbye to. Mateo is also said to be a good student, who likes talking to his classmates and participating in his classes. He has learned to recognize some simple shapes and some characters. He can also count to 50 and write his full name. Be sure to watch Mateo’s videos to see how well he interacts with other kids and how well he’s doing in school with counting, following instructions, and dancing. We hope that Mateo’s forever family will fall in love with his bright eyes and magical smile and that they will bring him home soon! There’s a $2000 agency grant available for Mateo with his current adoption agency.

Marvelous Mavis will steal your heart! She is quick to smile and loves being picked up and held for comfort. Shortly after entering into the orphanage Mavis was diagnosed with epilepsy which is now managed by medication and careful attention to her diet. Mavis’ skills are steadily improving and with the support of her foster family she can now sit, and stand with assistance. When playing on her own, Mavis sits quietly; seemingly enjoying her surroundings! Mavis’ foster family “hopes she will soon find a family who will love her so she can enjoy the love of her forever parents and have a happy childhood”.

Mary is a beautiful little girl. She is described as sunny and is said to enjoy singing, dancing, playing games, and building with toy blocks. She can say some simple words, such as “thank you, teacher,” “aunt,” “Good morning!” and “I want to eat ___.” Mary likes to learn new things while in her special education class and she will often raise her hand to answer questions in class, despite not being able to give a clear answer. She likes to help her classmates find their seats and will follow along when singing children’s songs during the music lesson or when she hears a song on TV. Mary gets along well with her teachers and her peers. She likes playing with toys with her friends and is good at sharing. She sometimes isn’t the best listener and will smile at the caretaker and do her own thing. Mary has good motor skills. She is able to sit, stand, walk, run, and jump on her own. She is active in PE class. Mary can eat, put on clothes, and wash up independently. She will sometimes help the caretaker fold blankets and clothes. Mary likes to give her morning exercise leader hugs and isn’t afraid to report a child who is not doing what they are supposed to be doing. At night, Mary can take off her shoes, socks, and clothes on her own before going to bed. She is good at folding her clothes and she enjoys sleeping.

Mary Beth is a sweet and cuddly little girl. She was a premature baby, and was diagnosed with laryngeal cartilage dysplasia. Mary Beth has been healthy, but her muscular tension is high. She is unable to sit, crawl, or hold anything in her hands. Mary Beth is not speaking, and does not often respond to those talking to her. When she is upset, a long hug and cuddle will calm her. She has many delays. We do not know what the future holds for this sweet little one, but with a loving family and therapies, she will be able to reach her full potential. Mary Beth needs a family soon.

Mark is a sweet and loving child. He has had problems walking in the past but with leg splints, physical therapy and practice, he began to walk confidentially and even run a little bit! Mark’s favorite activity is to go for long walks outside and feel the sun on his face. He likes it when his nannies hand him leaves or flowers to feel. Mark is a sweet boy!
