Romeo is an energetic, outgoing little boy. He was abandoned approximately a year after he was born and was diagnosed with Down syndrome upon admission to the orphanage. When he was about a year old, he was not able to walk and slowly adjusted to his new environment. He cried less often as he became more familiar with his caregivers. Our most recent update from April, 2015 indicates that he can crawl around, stand with assistance, and even walk around in a walker! Caregivers have reported that he can sometimes be naughty and walk around in his walker to open cabinets and pull out clothes. He can understand what adults say to him, respond to simple requests asking for objects, and wave goodbye. He can now say “mom” and his caregivers are continuing to improve his speech. He loves to play with his toys, listen to music, and play with other children. His favorite game is hide and seek! His motor abilities continue to improve to where he is able to pick up small objects with his hands and hold a pen to scribble. He sleeps well at night and has a good appetite.
