LucaBoy, born 2005
Autism

Listed: October 2, 2013

Luca is all boy!  He adores mechanical devices and toys, with any action involved.  He can spend a long time concentrating, studying the secrets of mechanics.  Most of the time he plays alone as it isn’t easy for him to interact with others. When he gets tired of talking he goes to a corner and sits there for a long time. There are not many chances for him to be alone at the orphanage.

Luca prefers routines; it’s hard for him to deal with changes in his surroundings. The usual routine, having the same people around and things in usual places create for him an illusion of steadiness and reliability in his world. It calms him down and gives him some confidence. Unfortunately, soon Luca will have to drastically change his life. But, it would be better for him if he gets used to a foster home than to the institution.

Although he is a thin boy, he likes to eat. His mood changes like the weather on a spring day. He could be crying one moment and the next moment laughing. Classes are not always interesting to him but. He appreciates when some adults help him with his homework.

URGENT!  CHANTELLE IS FACING TRANSFER

Sweet Chantelle has a list of diagnoses, but her main need is a loving family!   A family could help her reach her potential and save her from a life in a crib.

From a family who met her in fall 2013:
Chantelle is mostly kept in a laying room although I did seen her out in the main groupa room laying down in a gated play area. I believe she can roll around. I saw her holding things in her hands as well. She has a calm, sweet spirit and I had her smiling in the first minute of seeing her. I touched her precious little face and told her I loved her and she smiled. The other kids seem to love her and they liked going into the laying room to take pictures of her with me.  Chantelle so needs a family now! She won’t be kept at the baby house much longer. She is soooo beautiful, the pictures really don’t do her justice.

Carolina 2013 (3)carolina-2017Girl, Born May 2006

Listed: August 6, 2010

Carolina is such a beautiful girl; beautiful brown hair with olive skin.  She has cerebral palsy, and does wear AFO’s on both feet.

From her medical records: Cerebral palsy, convergent squint, mental delay.   She can walk by supporter or holding one hand.  She says separate words, understands simple speech, is affectionate and friendly.   Physical therapy and a loving family will bring MIRACLES for this little girl!

Carolina was transferred in 2011 to a boarding school (not an institution).

New pic January 2017!

UPDATE August 2013:

Carolina is a beautiful girl! She is about 4ft tall and about 50lbs. Her CP affects her mostly from the knees down. She does have cytomegalovirus. This was reconfirmed last year, but we were not able to find out if it is active, or if she merely was exposed while her mother was pregnant with her. CMV does cause brain damage if a baby is exposed in utero, so a family needs to be prepared for that, or for the fact that is IS transmissible when it flares. She is very strong and she does make her likes and dislikes known. Her biggest love is candy…but not chocolate! She likes white chocolate a lot though. She likes dolls, and can undress them herself. She has good use of her hands. She gets around by crawling or knee walking, which is great. Knee walking shows her hips are nice and strong. She loves to “dance.” Dancing, to her, is an adult bouncing her up and down for as long as you can stand to do it. She gets quite unhappy when you stop to take a break. The nannies make her walk a bit while holding onto hands, but her legs and feet are just not able to line up with her being so tight. She is very strong. She loves cell phones and will try to snatch them at any opportunity. A toy cell phone that plays music would be nice for her. She speaks, though it is like a toddler. She repeats the same few things over and over, but she does say a couple other words and used them correctly. She understands much more though and the caretakers speak to her in complete sentences. She just loves to move and bounce and be twirled around. She likes BIG movements. She was very briefly startled by my husband, but quickly discovered he could bounce her around longer and higher than I could…and so she quickly preferred him!

Carolina does have some institutional behaviors that a family needs to be prepared for. Her moods change quickly, and when she gets upset, she can throw herself to the floor, even injuring herself. She will hit, pull hair, etc if she is upset. She will throw large toys as well. The caretakers love her, but did express that she would likely not engage or interact with kids bigger than her, and would be likely to assert herself over anyone smaller. That is just how life in these places is. Families without small children would be best for her. An involved, hands-on Papa would be ideal, and a trampoline would be out of this world for her.

Nash 2015Boy, born 2004

Hydrocephalus

Listed: August 20, 2013

July 2016: NASH HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO THE INSTITUTION :(

From a volunteer who visited with him in July 2014:  ” Nash is still this very small boy. He has the size of a pre schooler. He is really cute though. He loves to have a man around. He showed my boyfriend all around the place. He loves to blow little wind mills and play games together. He doesn’t really speak the language they speak in his country, but he does make all kinds of ‘words’. He actually tries to make you understand and every now and then there will be an actual word in it, which makes it easier to understand what he says. He is potty trained and he understands language and knows quite well how to read the body language of the nurses. He’s a big help for the nurses, he carries toys inside and pushes wheelchairs. We suspect that he has some kind of visual impairment. He had the glasses of my boyfriend on for a moment and he seemed to be able to see much more, but I’m no eye doctor, so I can’t say for sure. All I can say is that this boy desperately needs out. He is quite healthy and he needs a family where he can blossom. He is an amazing boy and I have tons of pictures and a couple videos of him, where he shows his own goofy self. So please don’t let this boy wait any longer. Many of his friends from the orphanage have been adopted, but he is still listed. I want him out there! I want someone to see his potential and love him all the way home!

From a family who met him in Dec 2013: He seemed to be rocking more persistently. I noticed when music was being played or when we would actively engage him play he would rock nervously. However, he is a wonderfully sweet spirited child and is eager to please. He would always great us with a formal, “hello” and then lead us to take a seat. He never missed an opprotunity to rush out of the groupa and jump in our laps or include himself in whatever game we were playing with our boys. He so desperately wants to be loved. He called me, “Mama” and it broke my heart…how I wish I could have taken this precious boy as well. There were many days that we noticed him strapped to a chair or straight jacketed; I am not sure why because I never saw any self injurious behavior from him. He is very impulsive and easily excited but his joy simply radiates a room. He desperately deserves to be loved, valued and wanted….he only aims to please. The first thought that came to mind upon meeting him was, “He does NOT belong here”….he is so smart…though his speech is often slurred; but only slightly. He seems to be minorly effected by his hydrocephaly and gets along very well. His poor little hands do shake though; probably as a result of the pressure on his brain. I am unsure if he has been shunted or not; I felt around his head one day and did not feel the bump that would indicate he has. If he has not been shunted then that makes his case even more urgent. He desperately needs out! This boy has ALL the potential in the world…he just needs the right parents to break him free!  I also have a video with him in it, if a family is interested.

From someone who met Nash in 2012:  Nash is a wonderful little boy. He is always quick to excitedly greet visitors with happy squeals and a formal hello, and is quite insistent visitors take a seat in the chair he brings over to them 🙂  He is very helpful and obedient, and will sometimes bring toys over to the smaller kids in his group who cannot get toys for themselves. He is very talkative, but a lot of what he says is sort of like “Nash”-ese. He has no problem getting his point across, however, if it is important to him that you understand him! He likes to play with just about any toy; balls, legos, cars, light up toys, you name it he will play with it. He enjoys being silly and laughing, and especially thrives with one on one attention. He is generally a happy little guy, but does not like messes or rule breaking, and is not afraid to tell the other children “No” or try to right their wrongs if they are misbehaving. He very much aims to please! I feel Nash would adjust easily to and thrive in a family!

Wylie has a handsome boy who is facing transfer soon.  VIDEO:  https://youtu.be/XEt-iY-OHtk

Listed: August 2013

From a family who visited him in 2015:  He is calm when being walked around but becomes over stimulated easily. He is getting close to being transferred and this will be terrible for him. In the baby house the caregivers have more time to spend with him. In an institution I can see him just being constantly sedated… This handsome little guy needs out now!!!!

From a family who met him in 2014:

Wylie is a sweet boy, and obviously loved by the nannies. They often stooped down to talk to him, and walked hand in hand with him. He walked constantly, clapping his hands and smiling. He exhibited what I would describe as autistic tendencies. I don’t recall ever hearing him speak. One day he wondered out of his groupa (apparently the door wasn’t latched) into the common area we were visiting out son in. My husband took his hand and led him back. He has a special place in our hearts and we pray someone will see him and choose him. I would be glad to talk to anyone interested. He is precious. He’s at a great baby house, that is very pro-adoption, and in a faster region than most.

Hunter-001ForestRidge-001Brothers – they need to be adopted together!

They are said to be “very good boys”!

Listed: August 11, 2013

Hunter, The oldest, was born in March 2004:  Hyperkinetic disorders/Hyperkinetic conduct disorder; Nonorganic sleep disorder/Emotional sleep disorder; Benign intracranial hypertension; Other specified diseases of gallbladder; Flat foot

Hunter likes to eat a lot. He and his brother Forest have a lot of energy. He really likes to do arts and crafts and play games. Most of the time he has a very sweet disposition. He is very keen to interact with adults. That being said if an adult is too rough with him things will start to escalate. If an adult tries to swat at him or restrain him in someway he may attempt to bite. Hunter can speak pretty well but he can’t always communicate what’s going on with his emotions. Hunter responds best to strong male figures. An attentive dad is key to a positive adoption for him. He is in grade 4 here but he can’t read, write, do math, or anything like that right now. He is schooled by himself and school mostly consists of arts and crafts. He is not unintelligent but very delayed. He likes soccer. He would be great in an attentive family where he and his brothers will get much attention and where they will be by far the youngest children. I would adopt him myself if I could be as focused on him and his brothers as he needs a dad and mom to be and if we had the space for them along with our current 3. He enjoys picking fruit and cleaning in the orphanage. He is never been far from the orphanage and he is interested in coming to America. He has communicated that he really wants to come to America and really wants a papa.

Forest, the middle boy, was born in Aug 2006:
Mild mental delays; speech disorder

Forest likes to eat a lot. He does school the same way his brother Hunter does. He is considered to be in the second grade. Very sweet but also very active. Like his older brother, he needs to need a lot of attention to keep him from unintended harm. He likes to be outside. He has minor institutional self harming tendencies like scratching himself to leave marks. He does not do that a lot though. Forest loves to give hugs and kisses and hold hands with the adults.

Ridge, the youngest brother was born in Aug 2008
Stenosis of pulmonary artery; currently he does not require surgery. Tuberculin skin test – positive?

Ridge likes to clean. He was mopping the floor with an adult sized mop as I wrote this. He is a very small but sweet boy. He’s a very peaceful and charming child. He is not in school yet but he seems to be the most intellectual of his brothers. He will likely do better in school then his brothers when he gets the chance. He is so cute it is hard to imagine him spending another day without a family. When the boys orphanage shuts down Ridge will be separated from his brothers for several months because he is not old enough to go with his older brothers. I expect this will be a very traumatic time for him, so if a family could come for him as soon as possible that would be best. No family should hesitate to adopt these children as long as they are available to give the time and attention that these children deserve. If that is done the children will flourish.

Elijah-2014Boy, born Feb 2006
Elijah Birth defect of central nervous system, hydrocephalus, mental delays, manifest deviation, cardipathy and protein-calorie deficiency

Listed: June 21, 2013

Elijah needs a family asap, because he needs constant care, and at the orphanage he doesn’t receive it. They fed him with wheat cream only and how he is feeling sick all the time, it’s hard to feed him, so that at orphanages he just remains hungry sometimes.

He can walk and likes music and playing with mobile phones.  He likes watching TV and doesn’t speak much.

Guardian AngelElijah really responds well to a male caregiver — he needs a Papa of his very own!
From a missionary who visited in August 2014:  ” A beautiful little boy. He is doing so much better, he loves to walk.  He needs someone to hold his hand as is too scared to walk alone just yet.  He still has some self harming behaviors and lets you know when he’s not happy!  But most of the time he is calm and has the cutest giggle. “

From someone who met him summer 2013:
Elijah is a beautiful, sweet child. He is nonverbal but he occasionally makes some noises. Unfortunately, when I saw him he had to be restrained most of the time because he would hit himself and bang his head … hard. He now has a one-on-one caregiver, and I hear he is doing very well. Elijah likes to watch tv, and he loves musical toys. When you play music for him, he just lights up in a huge smile. He has an infectious laugh. While I was visiting, Elijah had surgery to fix a malfunctioning shunt. I was able to visit him in the hospital. The dedication of the man who is now his personal caregiver was amazing. Elijah can walk with support, and he loves to be held and cuddled. This little blond-haired child looks like an angel, and he would bring nothing but joy to a family’s life.

Several videos of him are available from Maya’s Hope.

Garrett does not speak, but understands speech addressed to him.

From an adoptive family who met him:  I met Garrett in May 2012 and I will always remember how sweet he was.  He was usually the first one to greet me with a hug when I visited.  He was always so excited to show off for me.  When the care-taker announced that they were all going outside he promptly put his shoes on and helped some of the other kids with their shoes as well.  He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Sammy) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows.  It is obvious that they have been taught manners and cooperation and they are very kind to one another.  They are taught at least several days a week so do not let the diagnosis deceive you, they are fairly smart boys.  They all have obvious delays but never had any problems following instructions and they understood everything they were told and all seemed to love to be helpful.  When I show our son (who was adopted from this group) their pictures he remembers their names and tells me they were his friends.  He told me he wants them to be adopted and to come to the U.S.  How I pray that happens for Garrett and the other boys!  Garrett is so sweet and innocent, I hate to see what will happen to him if he ages out of the orphanage.

From an adoptive family who met him:  I met Sammy in May 2012 and he was one of the sweetest kids I had ever met. Always ready with a smile and a hug! He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Garrett) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows. It is obvious that they have been taught manners and cooperation and they are very kind to one another. Update from a family who met her in late 2013:  Lydia is the sweetest little girl! Our kids were in the same groupa, so we got to see Lydia everyday we were in country. She is a joy! Lydia spends her days sitting in a stroller with hardly any interaction. Now that our kids are home, she is the only non-walker left in her groupa, so she is the only one who sits in a stroller all day long. She looks to be about the size of a four year old, but looks like she is a healthy weight. She’s got a little chub on her legs. Her legs are not scissored, but when I lifted her legs up, they were definitely tight.

Lydia

She needs a Mama to stretch her legs! Her legs are always bent at the knee draped over the bar of the stroller (she’s too big for her stroller). I couldn’t tell how much head control she had because her head was always supported by her stroller, but her head was always upright, not bobbing. I never saw her move her body (except to arch her back when tickled), but one day I held both of her hands, and she was able to grasp my hands tightly in hers. Neither hand seemed weak. Lydia’s vision looks pretty good. She could follow me with her eyes, but there’s a good possibility she’ll need glasses. Her poor teeth are rotten. We watched her eat lunch once and she seemed to eat well. She eats pureed food from a bottle. Did I mention she is SO sweet? Lydia seems to be very easy going. Once a child was hanging on her and pushing on her and she didn’t respond except to make a face showing that she didn’t like it. Lydia was my favorite child to interact with in the groupa. All I had to do was say hi to her and smile and she would light up EVERY single time and reward me with a big smile. We tickled her lots and she giggled away. One time she was left in a room all by herself and was crying. I peeked my head in the doorway and said hi to her and she immediately stopped crying and started smiling and giggling. She is very responsive when talked to. 🙂 Even though she is non-verbal, she communicates with lots of smiles and giggles. This little lady is FULL of joy! She will truly BLESS any family! Please, please consider this sweet little one. She is still in the babyhouse, but is one of the oldest in her groupa, so she will be one of the next children to be transferred.

She does have an older brother who is eight years old and looks to be typically developing. I’m not sure if they will need to be adopted together or separately.

NEW PIC JANUARY 2016!

Hannah is a darling girl who needs a family.   MORE PHOTOS AVAILABLE.
Listed: Aug 6, 2010

From her medical records:  absence of rectum, cranial bones deformity, multiple development pathologies, severe dermatitis, delay of development but she is very smart and active.    Hannah is a very friendly girl. She likes to play different toys, with other children of her group. She is very smiling, easy-going girl. She understands everything, but she does not talk yet. She is a smart girl. She is walking independently.

Hannah was born with deformed cranial bones.   Hannah is very smart, she is nearly walking, and has striking blue eyes and a smile to warm your heart!   She has severe dermatitis, from what they are not sure.    She was also born without a rectum, and presumably uses a colostomy bag at this time.  She will definitely need to be seen by a gastroenterologist once home.

From an adoptive family who visited with her in June 2010:  ” Hannah is a precious little angel that despite her challenges, is unbelievably full of life.  She loves her walker, especially moving “lightening fast” down the hallway, to the playroom, whenever she has the chance.  She is a little spit fire…who has a mind of her own;) We took her pacifier (which she loves) out of her mouth to snap a few pictures and she made herself perfectly clear that she wanted it back:)  She is developing very well and  walks by holding on to her caretakers finger.  She can hold a ball/toy and is very social little girl.  She happily perked and stood up to her feet (while in her walker) when I bent down and spoke to her.  When my camera flashed, she threw her little hands up to her face and smiled.  She is an absolute favorite of her caretakers and the Orphanage Director.   The “blue” on her skin is an anteseptic that is applied as a result of her extreme skin allergy.  Given the chance, this little one will grow by leaps and bounds.  She sure stole my heart!”

UPDATE 2013:
Hannah is doing well, she is still in the orphanage and will be available for adoption when she turns 5 in September.  She is a sweet girl! Unfortunately, pictures cannot reflect it, but she is very charming!  We would be happy if a good family could adopt her ASAP!

We got to meet Hannah while touring the special needs floor of the baby house in April 2011.  She is obviously adored by the staff, and is well cared for.  She was super tiny and a little shy, but that didn’t stop her from approaching our daughter who had traveled with us.  Although I didn’t hear her make any sounds, she was very expressive and they quickly and easily responded to her.  She appeared to fully understand what they were saying to her as well, and did respond with head nodding and shaking a few times.  Not only was she walking on her own, she was strong and steady.  Able to get up and down, chase the ball, run off with the ball in her hands.  She is currently living in a caring environment with a great therapy floor, able to help her to meet her milestones and goals.  She will be transferred between the age of 5 & 6 as all children are from this facility.  The reality of where she will go, and the group where she will be fit into should a family not arrive for her BEFORE she is transfer is not good.  She will quickly regress there.

Look at sweet Edith, all dolled up for the New Year’s party at her orphanage!

She has had a broken nose because when she lived in the family her mother’s boyfriend pushed her and she fell and broke the nose. Two foreign families have visited her but did not end up adopting her.

One of our adoptive families has met her, and has video of her for inquiring families. “Edith was was much in need of one on one attention but did not even know how to be held. She was whiney, but very willing to share her chocolate with anyone and everyone.  Edith played with the other girls and was sociable. You could tell, however, that she was emotionally somewhat fragile. She would do really well, in my opinion, as the youngest or only child (or in a family where the other children are grown).   She really needs an experienced adoptive family who can give her lots of one on one attention and help build her trust in humanity back”.

Adam is a sweet, easy to please little cuddle bug. He is very much like a cuddly, curious little toddler. When I first met him he did not seem interested in me at all, but as time went by he began to want affection, and would grab my hands if I stopped rubbing his head and put them back on his head.

One day I picked him up and from that moment on he wanted to spend most of my time there in my arms. When I arrived he’d jump up from his little wooden chair, and hurry over to me with his arms raised. If I didn’t pick him up fast enough he’d try to climb up into my arms using nearby chairs or beds, and he would not hesitate to grab items from my hands and set them down to free up my hands so I could hold him. He also began to cry whenever I left. He loves wind up toys and toys that vibrate, and would giggle happily and flap his hands to show how excited he was about them. His other favorite toys were a pony he enjoyed chewing on, any sort of car, and some legos that made a train. He is not verbal but was beginning to make noises to communicate. I tried to teach him to sign more one day, by signing hand over hand with him. When I asked him to sign it he took my hands and helped me sign it. He seems to me to have a need for love and affection that can only come from a loving family. I would love to see him thriving and meeting his full potential, as well as bringing joy to as many people as possible!

Ezra has had a shunt placed, and is doing better.  His adoption may necessitate consultations with medical personnel, to safely transport him home.

From someone who met Ezra in 2013:    Ezra is absolutely precious! He is sweet and adorable and oh so lovable!  He laughs when his toes are tickled, or when someone around him laughs or talks or sings to him. He often smiles or laughs so hard his chubby cheekers make his eyes close. He ha s learned to blow spit bubbles and coo. It is hard for me to tell if he is able to use his limbs normally, but he is able to move from his back to his side with little or no assistance. He has not yet learned to play with toys, but he has a very strong grip and enjoys holding my finger. I was told he can see, but not very well. I observed his eyes moving rapidly from side to side, and sometimes appearing to be looking in two different directions. In spite of this there were other times in which he appeared to be quite focused and looking right at us. He has absolutely stolen my heart, and I hope that he will find a family that can help him meet his full potential!

Girl, born August 2007
Nervous system disorders, mental delays

Jolina is a darling girl, waiting for her forever family!   She has some features of FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).  This is a cautionary disclosure, not a diagnosis.

Update from April 2014: Jolina is a beautiful girl and she is very sweet! Her eyes are mesmerizing and full of hope and excitement. She is attentive to her nannies and seems to follow their instructions well. Jolina longs for attention and it is obvious that she has a desire for a family. She immediately wanted to call me “mama” and she patted the bench to let us know she wanted us to sit down near her. She seemed a little unsteady on her feet but she was walking around the room and she pulled a chair over to sit right in front of us. Jolina didn’t say much while we were in the room, so its hard to say how much she talks. Her orphanage was lovely and we would adopt from there again if given the choice. Jolina’s photo does not do her justice and sadly she seems very overlooked! We can’t wait to see Jolina with her forever family!

Ohh, I love her little pouf of hair, what a lovely little girl.

From a family who met her in early 2014:
She needs out! She is skeletal and looks to be in very poor condition. Neveah just cries and cries if you get near her. Also, she appeared to be heavily sedated. She had a toy tied to her wrist/hand, and her hands were bound to not scratch herself. So, so sad.

Liam 2014 (2)Boy, born March 2006

Cerebral Palsy, significant mental delays

Listed: August 13, 2012

Not a great picture, but Liam is a cutie!   Even though he has CP, it’s nice to see him in a place that has him up and about.
Large families welcome, married couples only.
From a family who met him in 2014: This little guy tried for 5 minutes to get my attention before I could come over to him. Although he is mostly nonverbal, his receptive language is good, and he was able to follow instructions and respond to our conversation. I asked what he could do physically, and he immediately began pushing the cover back and trying to flip over, to show me he could roll, and pull up on the side of the bed. He is very sweet, and so very much wants OUT of the bed and to be up walking, but without proper medical intervention and regular therapy, he won’t be able to. His outgoing, sunny personality is absolutely wonderful! His biological mother died 4 years ago, and he entered the orphanage then, so he had that solid foundation of a loving mom during the important years. From a CP perspective- all four limbs are involved, and he has high tone in his torso that makes it difficult for him to sit up, because when he gets excited, his tone kicks in and it flattens him back out. He also has significant spasticity in his legs, particularly in his heel cords and hamstrings. That is something that in the USA might be treated with a medicine like Baclofen, which would allow him more flexibility. He’s very affectionate and easygoing, and constantly tries to get up and move around like the other kids. He just really needs a family to help him reach his potential!

Anophthalmos (absence of eyes)

Listed: August 13, 2012

What a sweet little girl!  She is walking independently. Married couples only, large families welcome!

Update June 2013:
Don’t let Cambria’s pictures fool you. She is happy and full of life. Usually, she is stuck in bed for her own safety, as the nannies are afraid she could fall or run into something and hurt herself. When I took her out, she was able to walk, run, and dance to the music playing on the TV in the room. She loves dancing! She started laughing when I clapped my hands in front of her face and when I sneezed. She is an absolutely angelic little girl. While I do believe she has some institutional autism, she would be a joy in any family, and with love and proper care will thrive.

Update March 2014:
Although she mostly lays around because she cannot see, she walks and dances; she loves music. She is extremely gentle, and sensitive to noises.  She loves to be swung around and rocked gently, and that also makes her giggle.

NEW PHOTO DECEMBER 2016

Lovely Kanani needs a family to help her reach her full potential.

From a family who met her in May 2012:  Large families welcome; travel required.Kanani is very sweet girl. She is well cared for in a good orphanage by caring nannies. She gets lots of outside time when it’s warm out but this time is spent lying down in the stroller as she can’t sit on her own. She can hold on to your fingers and seems to just love to have attention although with her eye troubles it is difficult for her to respond. She likes to have her cheek stroked and her hand held. She is quite stiff and in need of physiotherapy and most of all love and attention. We were told that she will be transferred to an institution very soon unless a family is found as children at this orphanage are typically transferred at age 4.

Eric has arthrogryposis and compensated hydrocephalus. He has had a surgical repair of spina bifada.

Listed: Jan 2012

Eric is a smiley little fellow who likes to feel his caretaker’s heartbeat or pulse, because it comforts him. He would be a wonderful little brother in a household of older children.

Overall, he is healthy and would do well in a family without smaller children. His upper body is quite strong and he has full use of his hands, fingers and arms, but he has little control or movement in his lower limbs and they are significantly smaller than his upper body. He can squeeze very tightly with his hands, and reach a full arm’s length with no problems even though his resting position is the one you see in the pictures. He does not talk, according to the caretakers but does make sounds to communicate. Cognitively, he has significant delays due to his history of spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He is very much still an infant in many ways.

He may have a sister a few years older in a different region who possibly could also be available for adoption or he could be adopted separately. She also has special needs.

From a family who met him in 2011:

Sweet Francis needs a family.  He does not currently sit up, but I think he probably could if he were given an opportunity to be out of his chair and get stronger.  Overall, Francis seems to be physically healthy, aside from his CP.  I suspect his cerebral palsy affects his upper and lower body.  He is very tight.  More concerning is his emotional well being.  Francis does not get much mental stimulation or interaction, outside of his immediate basic needs.  The caregivers are kind and do love him, but are unsure what to do with him.  He gets good basic care.  He is fed and is clean.  He is not left in a crib.  He sits in his orange chair all day long.  I tried to talk to Francis and touch him.  He is very uncomfortable with touch, but he has the sweetest blue eyes and I know that the right family could draw this little boy out of his shell.  Please someone, take a chance on Francis.  He will thrive with the proper care and stimulation.

From someone who met Brody in 2011 and Auggie in 2012:  Brody and Auggie are sweet little boys who appear to have some sort of genetic disorder that causes developmental delays and self-harming behaviors. They are not aggressive towards others, only towards themselves, and these behaviors can be halted temporarily by picking either boy up and spinning him around. Brody is able to walk, and can drink from a cup without help. He is not quite able to feed himself, but is willing to try. Auggie was in a laying room for over a year, but after only 3 months of physical therapy is now sitting independently and working on learning to stand. Both boys have wonderful, heart stealing smiles. Brody appears to be in his own world much of the time, and loves things that crinkle or light up, and things shaped like sticks, as well as hands, gloves, feet and socks. He shows numerous signs of autism, which may or may not be environmental. Auggie loves things that crinkle or light up, slinkies, music, and tv. He is more interactive than Brody, and appears to lift his arms up to indicate he would like to be held. This is the only form of communication I observed from either of the boys. The boys are currently living in separate orphanages. I pray a family will reunite these brothers together in one family, where they can receive all the love and attention they need to meet their full potential!

We hope a family will consider adopting them TOGETHER.

Boy, born August 2005

Russ’s profile says “goloproentsephaliy” which is unclear, other than there’s some condition with his brain.  It’s unclear if it’s a physical or mental condition.

It has been suggested that his ‘goloproentsephaliy’ may actually be holoprosencephaly like Catherine 9HA, but it would be a milder form than hers i.e. lobar or semi-lobar holoprosencephaly, rather than alobar.

Travis2Boy, born November 2006

Travis is listed as having congenital defects of the Central Nervous System (CNS).  We don’t have additional information yet on how that affects him overall.

Listed May 2011

From a family who met him in 2012:
When I saw Travis my heart completely broke.  I remembered his picture where he was sitting up, and it was obvious that in the time since that picture was taken his health and any ability he once had had deteriorated.  He laid nearly lifeless, covered with blankets (mind you it is very hot in the room).  I only have the one picture of him  because his position never changed.  He rarely moved and seemed to be asleep all the time.  The only time I ever saw him move he just rocking his head from side to side very slowly as he grinded his teeth…and grinded…and grinded.  My instant feeling was that Travis had given up on life, and it breaks my heart.

Every time I saw him there was vomit on the blanket next to his mouth.  I suspect it is due to improper feeding.  Like Janna, Travis is living at the orphanage on borrowed time.

Please friends, let’s not let Travis give up on life.  I don’t know what his future ability would be in a family but even if it never changed isn’t he deserving of the love of a family?  Please…someone…rescue Travis.

Update March 2014:     He is not doing well. He appeared very drugged. He just rocked his head back and forth and ground his teeth. He occasionally would moan and he was salivating a lot and drooling on himself. He did not respond to me when I approached at all, he just kept rocking his head back and forth…which is why the picture is a little blurry…he never stopped.
