Regina’s Apert’s syndrome does not prevent this curly-haired little girl from playing, learning, and living an active life! Regina is an intelligent and imaginative child who enjoys dolls, swings, slides – and watermelon! Could she be your daughter?

Regina needs corrective surgery for her hands, feet, and face, to help her be all she can be. A loving family would give Regina a future outside of a bleak institution.

Roger is a handsome young man who will be 12 years old this fall.  He has many facial features of FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).  This dear boy is listed as having “childhood autism” — if it is truly autism or autistic behaviors due to orphanage life and his other special needs, we really don’t know.

He is said to have encephalopathy (unspecified disease of the brain), Childhood autism, and moderate mental delays.

He also has vision problems:  Convergent concomitant strabismus (crossing eyes) and hypermetropia (far-sighted); and is said to be anemic.

From a family who met him in June 2014:

This calm little guy came up to me with pleading eyes for attention and is just so polite. God has heard his prayers, and now he is listed for adoption! He is not overbearing or competitive at all. Rather, he is observant and inquisitive. He is about the size of a six year-old and just so gentle. I would take him home in a heartbeat if he was available before. He takes turns riding the red wagon around the orphanage grounds as the bigger boys pull him, and he gestures politely for fresh fruit when he sees it is available. He is kind to other children. He says a few words in his native language, and listened carefully when I was giving descriptions of my family photos. I have confidence that he would do wonderfully in any kind of family, and it is obvious– he can surely reciprocate love! He enjoyed throwing balls, going on walks, playing see-saw, and listening to English descriptions. Whoever adopts this little love will be so blessed to call him a beloved son.

Hydrocephalus, Severe mental delays

Listed: August 2013

She is a very sweet and kind girl and extremely needs a family.  She will be 5 this December, so any new family may commit to her and start preparing a dossier.

She has siblings, but none are available for adoption; 2 older sisters live with birth mother and 1 younger sister has been adopted.

From a family who met her in summer 2013:
She was in my kids’ groupa.  She is the sweetest little thing and needs out of there ASAP!!!  She has the most noble quiet nature about her.  She is mentally delayed but has so much potential.  She was one of the least favored children in the orphanage and she is desperate for love.  On one occasion she wandered over to the play shelter where we were playing and was trying to eat our daughter’s cookie.  We didn’t have any extra (we brought treats for the groupa every three days or so) so my husband just picked her up to distract her and as soon as he did, she threw her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder just soaking in the attention.  I can’t bear the thought of her being transferred!  She already has it bad enough.

From the orphanage: The girl needs a family asap. She is a kind child surviving with no parents. She requires much individual care because her educational ability is very low. In her orphanage she does not follow instructions; her vocabulary is very poor; she is severe speech delayed. She does not like to play with other children in her orphanage, she is on her own. She wants more attention than her caregivers are able to provide her with.

Rowan has been hosted before last summer; Reisen just recently arrived at the orphanage. Both boys have some developmental delays, but are teacher’s favorites. Rowan has grown leaps and bounds since he was last hosted in the US, in every way possible.

Rowan: Loves cars, Happy & Playful, Speech delays; Reisen: Outoging lil bro, Artistic explorer, Friendly

From Dec 2016:
They appeared to be very hyper, having serious behavioral issues and mental delays. They changed families during hosting program because first hosting family couldn’t handle them.

Their sister can be adopted separately from them but adoptive family needs to have approval for three children in order for us to be able to separate them. She lives in a different orphanage from them.

Scout is living in an adult mental institution.  She is blind, and hidden in her own dark world behind the walls of this place.  PLEASE help us find her family!

Update & new pics August 2019,  from a family who went met her:  Scout is very petite, approximately the height of a 3 year old. Her stomach is rigid and extremely distended from the top of her rib cage to her pelvis, and wraps around each side. She has strong facial features of FAS. Scout sees only shadows and filtered light. Her hearing is good. Her feet and knees appear normal and she walks well, but with a shuffle that appears to be due to her sight handicap. Scout chews and eats well, but does not feed herself independently. She needs to be fed. Her body requires daily suppositories for any bowel movements. She understands verbal directions in her native language, and spoke ‘no’ in her native language clearly.

scout-2016

Scout does not like to be touched or picked up. She does not like her hair touched or her hand held. She did not tolerate any attempts to touch her or even gently rub her arm. These reactions are not limited to strangers, but are her daily behavior with her caretakers and medical staff. Scout’s repeated response to basic directions in her native language was to yell ‘no’ and refuse.

After spending time with Scout we feel that her chances of a successful adoption would be better in a very structured environment that could provide extensive one on one treatment and care for severe behavioral issues. It is our honest opinion that her mental health issues exceed her physical handicaps, and that it would be best for Scout to be either an only child or in an environment with much older children. We are willing to be more specific to an interested adopter if that would help in preparing for her care.

Listed February 22, 2011

New pic Jan 2017.

Simeon is a beautiful Roma child with dark hair and big brown eyes.  He is significantly delayed, and diagnosed with cerebral palsy.  We are trying to get more information on his social history.  Simeon is a fraternal twin, whose sister has already been adopted.

Simeon is described as mostly non-verbal, and is not able to walk on his own.  There just seems to be so much potential for him in a family environment.  He is already an outcast because of his darker skin and will be left institutionalized – and likely bedridden — if not adopted.

From a family who visited with him in 2011:  Simeon is barely responsive to stimuli, but I believe that could change if he received regular, loving attention.  I didn’t observe any of the orphanage workers spending much time interacting with him.  There were times that I was able to get him to smile and grip my hand.  After a few days, he was even able to clap!  But most of the time he is staring off in any direction and seems completely unable to control most of his movements.  He was always either lying down or propped up in a sitting position.  I never heard him speak.  I also never heard him cry or fuss. Overall, a very calm child.

Multiple congenital arthrogryposis, internal hydrocephalus, open oval window

updated pics Jan 2015 and medical info:
Multiple congenital arthrogryposis, thymic hypoplasia, hypoplasia of abdominal wall muscles, crossed eyes, additional chord in the heart.

He had surgery. He is developing well. Smart boy. Needs out asap.

From a family that met him 11/15:
“Mathis” (he will be 3 years old in winter) also has delayed speech and mental delay. He did not use any words while we were there. He cannot sit, crawl, stand, or walk. We did not see him move about the floor, he needed to be held. This is frustrating for him. We did not observe him using his hands. I tried to place toys in his hands a he did not grab them. He did not laugh or smile.

Kathleen2-croppedKathleen 2015Girl, born 2004
Unrepaired cleft palate, mental delays

Listed: October 1, 2015

Kathleen is described as broadminded and cheerful.

From someone who met Kathleen in 2010: Kathleen is a very loving and social little girl who loves getting attention from adults. Whenever I was in her group, she was always right beside me, participating in whatever I was doing and engaging me in her own favorite activities. Kathleen has kept that silly, playfulness that most institutionalized children seem to lose. She was definitely a little mischievous getting into everything, but was also very quick to follow direction and obviously eager to please. I truly believe she would thrive in a family where she was showered with all the attention she deserves and allowed to simply be the fun-loving, silly little girl God created her to be.

From someone who met Kathleen in 2012: Kathleen is a happy little girl who would love to be able to communicate, but cannot because of an unrepaired cleft palate. She makes noises to communicate to the best of her ability. She is a very sweet little girl, and loves to play outside. Many missionaries who have met her loved her and spoke highly of her!

Update September 2015: Kathleen was moved into an all girls facility in 2012. The staff say she has adapted well to the routine and has a group of friends. However there is no opportunity for education or therapy where she currently is. The staff say their goals are focused physical activity and teaching the girls self care rather than on education. The facility is in a very rural village and there is no school nearby.

Kathleen was evaluated by a doctor who said that she is moderately mentally disabled. There is a high likelihood that she has some form of a congenital syndrome that she was born with. She has an unrepaired cleft palate, mitral valve prolapse, as well as some abnormality of her elbow joints. She is also very thin, it’s unclear if this is related to her syndrome since the other girls at her facility were not under weight like she is. We observed her eating several times, the palate does not seem to slow her down, but she does have to clear her nose frequently because there is no barrier between her mouth and her nasal cavity. It was originally thought that her speech challenges were due to the unrepaired palate, but the doctor says this is not likely since she is not just delayed in speech, but rather is completely nonverbal. He believes that she will remain nonverbal, but then again there is no speech therapy offered where she is, so we doubt that!

Kathleen understands and is able to follow basic instructions, and is able to perform self care with supervision (self feeds, toilets, dresses independently, etc). We were able to get her to play briefly kicking around a ball, and she liked to watch us color. We were unable to get her to use the crayons herself to see what her fine motor skills are like. She likes to take pictures but refuses to look at the pictures on the phone! She seems really averse to iphones, ipad, etc, when we tried to show her pictures and videos. She would hold our hands and lead us around where she wanted to go, and enjoys skipping! The staff have a nickname for her that basically means “energizer,” because she is always active and on the go!

Kathleen is a beautiful girl who is not able to reach her God given potential where she currently is. The doctor was not hopeful that she would “ever progress,” but we know that with the love/dedication of a family, and medical care/therapy that she needs, that she can prove him wrong!

From a family that met him 6/15:

We spent about a week with this sweet boy when we were adopting our son in June 2015. He is so desperate for love. He called me momma and begged my daughter and me to hold him. We loved on him as much as possible and he soaked it up. He picked up English words very quickly, and remembered day after day that I had hand sanitizer in my purse and asked for it by saying, “soap!” He loved to play ball with my kids, and the nannies would let him push the baby carriage around during walks. He has the most infectious giggle I’ve ever heard. He walks well, but the nanny indicated that he has issues with his knees. It didn’t stop him, though!

He needs a good, patient, and loving family to give him what he needs. He is so skinny and needs good nutrition. He has very minor orphanage behaviors, but from the progress he made just being with us for a few days, I know he will flourish in a caring family. He will be transferred to a horrible place (the director of the orphanage told me it is horrible), likely very soon, since he’s almost 4.

This region is beautiful and very cost efficient. The orphanage director is lovely. The facilitators are amazing, and the judge is hilarious and wonderful! You will be able to stay in a hotel and walk to the orphanage and enjoy the beauty and culture of a wonderful town.
