Reece’s Rainbow is dedicated to rescuing orphans abroad with Down syndrome. The ugly truth of the matter is that once these children reach a certain age, especially growing up in institutional/orphanage settings, they get to a point where they are no longer likely to be adopted.

You are also invited to send a check (no Paypal fees) to Reece’s Rainbow, PO Box 146 Combined Locks WI 54113

Sweet little Terrence was born with down syndrome and has mild tricuspid regurgitation, but an otherwise normal heart. Terrence is an active boy who is curious about new things, observing them carefully and trying to touch anything he can to see what he can learn about it. He can walk independently and will say hello to familiar people. Terrence can also say aunt and elder sister, but not clearly. When he’s super excited, he’ll scream. He loves being teased by his caretakers and waves to say goodbye to people. When he’s playing happily, he’ll show everyone his big smile. Terrence is able to drink water from a bottle and feed himself biscuits. He understands simple instructions from caregivers, such as throw the trash away or sit well and eat your food. If he sees any child not behaving well, he will be sure to get the nanny’s attention! Terrence enjoys playing with toys such as rattles and blocks.

Terrence has a $5000 grant available with his current adoption agency!

Nashville was found abandoned when he was around 6 months old and a birth note was with him indicating his age. He has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Nashville was described by orphanage staff as being lively, active and extroverted. They said he liked to play with other children and enjoyed time with adults as well. He doesn’t like to share treats with others but is generous with his caretaker. He is able to play alone.

Agency staff met Nashville in November 2017 and said he is very ticklish! He responded to voices, turned to locate sounds and could follow a moving object with his eyes. He could search for dropped items, build a tower with blocks and play games like patty cake. He could laugh, imitate words and vocalize sounds like “mama.” Nashville was able to hold a crayon and scribble on paper, throw a ball, run and jump. He lives with a foster family and had 2 foster siblings in his home. Caretakers said he eats well and is very playful. They hope he will find a family to love him.

Freddie was abandoned at 7 months old. He is diagnosed with Down Syndrome and funnel chest. Freddie’s medical information is 3 years old, but we do have some recent information from his orphanage. While we are working to get an updated medical for him, the recent report, photos, and videos can give a good picture of Freddie’s development. Neither the medical or report indicate any significant delays with his physical development.

Freddie’s videos show him walking steadily, kicking a ball, and playing with blocks, indicating that his gross and fine motor skills appear to be on target. Freddie reportedly can understand simple language and is seen following directions in his videos, though we are not sure if Freddie is able to speak. Freddie attends school in the orphanage, but there is no language training available which inhibits his ability to learn to speak. His intelligence is slightly delayed compared to his peers, but he could potentially make progress with the proper services and interventions.

Freddie is said to be outgoing, active, and loving. The orphanage reports that he can make new friends easily and he is seen playing with other children in his videos. Freddie has a sweet smile and pleasant demeanor. He has some self-care ability; he reportedly can do simple tasks alone, but needs assistance with other tasks such as taking a shower. The orphanage reports that Freddie can have bowel and bladder control, but he does not at this time.

Freddie needs the love and support of a family to help him thrive. Could Freddie find a home with your family?

Two-year-old Dobie is a delightful little boy with a love for music and dancing. In April of 2016, Dobie was moved from his orphanage to a foster family. Dobie can say dad and mum and can turn his head when called. When strangers try to hold him, he goes to his foster parents and shakes his head, refusing to let them hold him. He can wave goodbye, clap his hands, and copy his foster mother’s dance moves, putting his hands up in the air and shaking his body to the beat. Dobie can stand up from a sitting position and walk short distances. He makes a lot of sounds and loves to babble. He seems to be very on target developmentally in comparison to other children with down syndrome his age.

Dobie enjoys playing with his older foster brother and playing outside. If his foster brother is being bossy, he will hit him with a toy and sometimes bite him- he certainly knows how to stand up for himself! Dobie loves it when his foster mom holds his hand and his foster mother says he is a smart and flexible little boy. He will take the bottle when someone fills it up to drink on his own. He likes to eat apples and jelly the most. Dobie can learn how to play with a toy quickly after being taught. He really likes the toy trumpet. Dobie also likes playing with small balls, toy cars, and watching tv.

The agency’s team visited Levron for the third time in April. We glanced at this paperwork then looked a little closer. It was his 3rd birthday! So we sang, and Levron got 2 packages of fruit snacks rather than the standard 1 package per child.

My favorite memory of Levron from the April trip is how much he loved looking at himself in the mirror! He looked and giggled and kissed himself then looked at himself again. It was just too adorable! Another thing that brought peals of laughter from him was playing peek-a-boo! And his laugh is so cute! We couldn’t help laughing with him!

Levron was sooooo close to walking when we met him! He stacked cups for us and really loved looking at books. He babbles but isn’t saying words yet.

Additional information and photos are available in this blog post.

What a little love muffin Curtis is! Curtis is diagnosed as having down syndrome and is post-op CHD-TOF (elsewhere in his file it mentions an ultrasound reported PFO, ASD, and PDA).

Curtis has typical delays for a child with down syndrome. He could distinguish the difference between strangers and those close to him at the age of 6 months. At 9 months he was rolling over and could clap his hands and use his hands to get his favorite toys. Shortly after Curtis3he was crawling and able to recognize his name and respond when called. He has been beginning to learn some simple words and trying to pronounce them. Curtis is gentle and cute. He likes to snuggle and receive hugs from his caretakers. He likes when others play with him and when he is happy he will shake hands with other children and kick his feet happily. Curtis gets along well with the other children and is good about sharing his toys. Could you be the lucky family that gets to snuggle with this little teddy bear? Please help us find a family for Curtis now so he can get home while he is still so young!

Ennis is a very handsome little guy who recently turned 2 years old! When he was brought to the orphanage, at about 8 months of age, he was very ill with pneumonia. They found he has Down syndrome, and a hernia, which has not been repaired. Ennis lives with a foster mother, who loves him very much. His overall development is a bit delayed, which is to be expected. He is able to stand with just a little assistance, and will surely be walking in the next few months. Ennis has good fine motor skills. He loves to be outdoors, and loves his foster mama! He is imitating words, and his receptive speech is typical for a 2 year old…he hears what he wants to hear. Ennis needs a family of his own, who will help him reach his full potential. What a sweet son he will be! Video is available.

Romeo is an energetic, outgoing little boy. He was abandoned approximately a year after he was born and was diagnosed with Down syndrome upon admission to the orphanage. When he was about a year old, he was not able to walk and slowly adjusted to his new environment. He cried less often as he became more familiar with his caregivers. Our most recent update from April, 2015 indicates that he can crawl around, stand with assistance, and even walk around in a walker! Caregivers have reported that he can sometimes be naughty and walk around in his walker to open cabinets and pull out clothes. He can understand what adults say to him, respond to simple requests asking for objects, and wave goodbye. He can now say “mom” and his caregivers are continuing to improve his speech. He loves to play with his toys, listen to music, and play with other children. His favorite game is hide and seek! His motor abilities continue to improve to where he is able to pick up small objects with his hands and hold a pen to scribble. He sleeps well at night and has a good appetite.

From his current agency: There is a $4000 grant available to families who qualify to assist with the cost of this adoption. In addition, the application fee and pre-approval deposit have been waived for this child.
