Robinow syndrome, external-internal hydrocephalus, mental delay, secondary cardiomyopathy, minor heart anomaly, nanism, secondary enzyme defect, recurrent bronchitis

From a family who adopted in 2016:buddy2     I did not personally meet him, but he was in my son’s institution when we were there just two months ago. The village where this institution is located is small and very safe. The hotel has modern amenities and is owned by an English speaking local who will take very good care of you and feed you very well! The locals are friendly and helpful to Americans. The institution is a quick and easy walk from the hotel. We were the second family to ever adopt from this institution and the judge in this region waived the ten day wait for both of us.    I would be more than happy to talk to those interested in adopting from this institution. We had an excellent experience here!

language and motor delays

Listed: April 2015

Jennifer is a sweet girl who loves to dress up; when her foster father brought her to the orphanage she was wearing a jacket with flowers on it, and looked like a little princess! He said she often secretly admires herself in the mirror. She loved posing for the camera and didn’t need any instruction – she knew exactly what to do! Her foster family reports that she can make sounds while lying down, but cannot once she is standing, as if something is blocking her throat. Jennifer has a good appetite and isn’t a picky eater, though she especially likes candy! She is diagnosed with delays in motor skills and language, but her latest developmental information is outdated; as of two years ago she could walk, but not run or jump with both feet. She was only calling out simple words, but had good understanding. She plays well with other children and never fights. She especially enjoys music, and whenever she hears a song she sways to the rhythm.

Fiona updated CollageGirl, born July 2006

Sensitive special need

Listed:  April 13, 2015

Fiona is diagnosed as having a disorder of sex development (DSD). Her social sex is listed as female. Her file is very outdated and the agency has requested an update. Unfortunately, her orphanage does not seem very cooperative. They just said other than her listed special need, she is just like any other child. Fiona is potty trained. Fiona’s file states that she has been living in foster care and that she is active and energetic. It also notes that she communicates fluently.

Update 6/2015: Fiona’s hobbies include calligraphy, rope jumping, and roller-skating. She is active, outgoing, straight forward, cute, and has a quick response. She likes studying and obeys the school rules. She is good at concentrating on studying and finishes her school work on time. She actively takes part in school activities. They’ve described her as a healthy girl.

Maxmax-updateBoy, born 2009

congenital heart disease, ventricular septal defect in the phase of closure, nebtal delay, nanism

Probable FAS (cautionary disclosure….facial features and other medical complications consistent with this condition).

Update from a family who met him in April 2016:
The director was encouraging us to consider (Max) for adoption too and really wants to see him in a family. He was transferred into the institution with our son. He was very small for his age, (maybe the size of an American 3 year old) and very active. He reminded me of a small chipmunk because he kept running around the director’s office and poking his nose into everything!!! He was SO curious! I saw him get cookies off the director’s table and he was able to chew and swallow, without difficulty, though he does tend to overload his mouth. (maybe he is afraid they will take the food away?) He drinks normally from a cup.

He understood speech addressed to him and appropriately made the correct animal sound when asked what the dog, cow, etc says. He also knew placement of his body parts. (Eyes, ears…) I did not observe him speak except for animal sounds but gestured appropriately when he needed his needs met.

He does tend to ignore redirection, but does it with a mischievous gleam in his eye and, due to him responding appropriately to questions, there is no doubt in my mind he understands, just doesn’t want to listen! After all, the director’s large office was a fun, new place to explore!

I saw him swinging in a swing and he seems fine physically. His movement (walking and running) is very good. He is not overly affectionate but tolerates affection well. (Director was lifting him/giving him hugs)

This is a nice institution to adopt from. It is an easy walk from the hotel and the hotel director speaks English and is very welcoming and accommodating to American guests. They will overfeed you!  There are many shops, parks, and markets within easy walking distance of the hotel and institution.  Unfortunately, at this institution, the disabled adult men are lumped in with the little boys. Max needs out now! He has amazing potential with a family!

From a March 2015 update:

Elizabeth is very smart and has normal intelligence. If she was given a chance to go to school, she would have no problem learning. Her cognitive ability is good enough to learn a lot and to take good care of herself in daily life. She can put on and take off her clothing, go to the bathroom independently, climb stairs, play with toys, ride toy cars, etc. Elizabeth can walk when leaning on the wall or holding the rails. If there is nothing to lean on, she walks on her knees. She knows when to go to toilet in the day time and night time. She is attached to her caretakers. When she is unhappy, praise her or give her some snacks. Elizabeth has a very good appetite and likes to have snacks. She sleeps through the night and takes a nap in the day time. She has many good friends and gets along well with others. Elizabeth is quite extroverted and often says hello to others. She is a good girl with a loving heart. She likes smiling, playing, and focuses on being concerned for others. She also loves to show her best in front of those she is familiar with. Elizabeth is waiting for her family. Are you the one she is waiting for?

Esotropia and amblyopia of right eye; slow motor reflex

Gorgeous Isabelle is waiting for her forever family to find her! Isabelle is listed as having esotropia and weak sight of the right eye. Esotropia is a form of strabismus, or “squint,” in which one or both eyes turns inward. Isabelle is also diagnosed as having slow motor reflexes. She had a CT scan done and it came back clean-no abnormal findings. Isabelle’s file is outdated (from Dec 2013). Isabelle likes to giggle, play games, and imitate what others are doing. She likes watching TV and cries if she is not allowed. She loves her foster mother and those she sees on a regular basis. She is not afraid of strangers. She speaks very little. She says “po-po” (Grandma), “ma-ma” (mother) and “ba-ba” (father). She follows directions very well. If you ask her to point to a certain body part, she will do that. She is very wobbly on her feet and cannot really stand up without a helping hand. She leans on her foster mother a lot, but she was observed to be able to walk flat footed. She is clearly adorable, but may need a family who is open to significant delays and to some unknowns.

Guardian Angelbrandi-2016Girl, Born August 2007
brain malformations, bilateral hearing loss, significant cognitive delays, heart condition strabismus, anemia

NEW PHOTO!!   Brandi is listed with bilateral hearing loss, but can definitely hear, as she will turn around and look for the person calling her name, and does respond to commands given if she chooses (if she doesn’t, she screams/attempts to run/swats at the caregiver). Cognitively, she is very delayed, more like a toddler, in ability to understand what’s going on around her, and in her responses, and appropriateness. She also has strabismus in both eyes, and has both a heart condition and anemia. She does NOT have CP, nor microcephaly. She does have brain malformations, significant developmental delays, and many stimming behaviors that are typical of lower functioning autism. She is completely nonverbal.brandidatabase-1

Families interested in Brandi should be aware that she appears to have autism, and that it impacts her significantly. She is a “runner” and will bolt and run unless contained or restrained and potential families need to be aware that this is common in autism, and that they will need to take appropriate measures to keep her safe in a home and family. She has a history of aggression when changes occur, such as a move, or unexpected event, which include biting peers and adults, and she struggled for at least a year after her last orphanage change four years ago, but is doing better now. However, as many with autism thrive on routine and predictability, families need to be aware that she may handle a transition poorly, especially at first. She has excellent mobility, and is very typically sized for a normal 7 year old in weight and height, and when she resists, it is challenging for a grown woman to hold her back. She has been in a school for the deaf, however, she knows no sign language nor does she read lips. She is very much in her own world in many ways. She enjoys music and will sometimes clap, but remains disconnected from the group and does not interact with adults (was not seen with peers).

Brandi attempts to smell/lick everything that is handed to her and when she realizes it isn’t food, she is not typically interested. The nannies report that she has an excellent appetite, and that she enjoys eating. She stims by rocking, throwing herself back and forth, sucking all four fingers on her hand, grunting, and moaning/shrieking. She walks with a lurching gallop. She flaps her hands often. A potential family should be aware that she has no awareness of danger, no fear of strangers and is very much like a very young child emotionally and cognitively, but physically is strong and very mobile. She currently takes psychiatric medications to assist in sleep and behavior.

She is a lovely little girl, with beautiful blond hair and clear complexion. She is in a good orphanage where she is well cared for. Families need to research autism, and be comfortable and familiar with caring safely for a child with the issues mentioned above, in order to provide Brandi with a safe, loving home.

Cerebral Palsy

Poor Marco never had his paperwork for adoption made ready until just this summer. Precious Marco is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and mild anemia. He gets around pretty well, he has determination, and he has a beautiful smile! CP is not degenerative and can improve with therapy. Marco is finally getting his chance!

At 6.5, Marco was receiving schooling in the special school of his orphanage. Under the patient direction of teachers, he can follow to count from 1-10, he knows in, out, left and right. His language development is fairly delayed and he cannot speak clearly. Marco can walk and he uses support to go up and downstairs. He can move his hands and feet slowly, but does not move too much. Now he can speak some simple poems, can sing some simple children’s songs, and knows some simple English words, but his intelligence development is delayed compared to his peers. Marco is cute and kind. He likes to play with other children and can get along well with other children. Marco likes listening to music and watching children’s programs. When he is happy, he will laugh sweetly. He is an adorable child and we all hope that he could have a happy and wonderful home soon!

Cerebral Palsy

Listed: Jan 29, 2015

Cassie is a beautiful little girl! She was found by a family when she was about 7 months old. They took her home and kept her until she was about 17 months old, then took her to the police station. Cassie was found to have cerebral palsy. She had a difficult time at the orphanage when she first arrived. She kept calling for her “neinei” (grandmother) and was inconsolable. After a bit, she warmed to the nannies and the other children. Through therapy, Cassie’s muscles are less tight, and she is able to crawl, sit alone, and can stand with assistance. She can speak (though not as well as her peers), and uses some sign language. Cassie can count, and has a good memory. She likes to sing, and loves to play with dolls! Reading about her progress with therapy at the orphanage, imagine what could happen with formal therapy once she is home! Sweet Cassie is waiting for a family. Please bring her home soon!

Mental delay, probably FAS

From a volunteer who knows her in August 2016:  “Elinor is a sweet little girl who craves attention. Elinor is non verbal and she hardly makes sounds at all. She seems to understand everything that is being said to her. She reacts strongly on body language as well. She shies away from people that have negative/aggressive body language and she comes closer to people with positive/loving body language. Elinor is the smallest child in the group. She spends most of the time sitting on the ground or a chair, not really doing anything. She does not play with toys that are offered to her. She loves to sit on someones lap and it makes her calm when someone sings to her. She would take every chance to cuddle. The nurses said that if she had a chance to be cuddled all day, that she would. Elinor does have some protective behaviors. When she feels threatened she will bite people. It will not stop until that person creates space between them. If she is still upset them, she will continue to bite herself. She does not purposely harm others and she doesn’t seem to bite any of the other children, only adults. Because she is the smallest child of the group, she is an easy target for the aggressive behaviors of the other children.  Elinor seems to be potty trained, she knows how to eat and drink by herself. She also knows perfectly how to navigate a smartphone an play easy games on it or swipe through pictures. She loves all electronic deviced, such as phones, cameras, etc.”

6.5 year old Warner is diagnosed with deformity of hands and feet. He has one toe on each foot and one finger on each hand, but he does not let that stop him from doing anything…he’s one amazing and resilient kid!

Warner’s file is outdated, so his current agency is trying to get an update. From his Oct. 2011 file: Warner has good common sense and can sing songs he sees on TV. He takes his quilt and goes to bed when the caretaker tells him to. He can play and eat with his hand holding the toy or bottle just like any other child, even if the toy is small. His intelligence and language development are normal. Warner likes imitating the grown-ups’ behaviors and he is curious about everything. Warner is described as a lovely character and as optimistic. He is an intelligent child who has great ability to learn new things and he is happy to play with others. His favorite thing to do was play in the ball pit. Look at all the things Warner can do! Halden (2) Halden (1)Boy, born December 2007
PRC
Congenital meningocele

Halden really loves car toys that make sounds. Every time he picks out a toy, he will first take a big car, run wildly all around the room, and laugh happily! He is able to speak a lot and his ability to take care of himself is very strong. Before he goes to bed, he will take his clothes and neatly fold them in a pile. He will share his toys and food with other children. He is very sensible. When other children feel wronged, he will take the initiative to run to the other children, comfort them and say: “No problem, don’t be afraid!”

In his early education classes, he has completed many craft projects. He can paste simple pictures and color in animal coloring books. After class, he will tidy up his own learning materials. He is also very intelligent and can recite “student rules, three character words” etc., as well as children’s songs.

Nelton (2)

Nelton (1)Boy, born August 2007
PRC
Brain damage

Listed: Nov 2014

Nelton underwent a comprehensive assessment and joined a special education program inside the institute. We have a specialized teacher that plans specific content for him to learn every day. Since he began the special education class, Nelton has greatly improved. He is very interested in learning mathematics, art, and music. Everything that he studies, he is able to really know. Now, Nelton has learned how to count from 1 – 20 and he can write Arabic numerals from 1 – 10. He has even learned how to sing children’s songs, dance, and draw. His passion is drawing. One time when he went to class with good behavior, the teacher rewarded him with a watercolor brush. After he returned to his room, he first showed it off to everyone, and then he started to paint on the wall a house, sun, clouds, grass, kittens…After a while, when he was finished with his “great composition,” even though he drew on the wall, we had no choice but to say Nelton’s painting is truly very good, and therefore the nannies still praise him. He is the “Little Artist” of the Children’s Department, but he never brags about it. He usually takes the initiative to teach the other children.

Nelton’s comprehension abilities, language organization abilities, and expression abilities are all very good. He is capable of understanding adults, and is even able to fluidly express his own opinions, and at times, he runs into differing opinions with the nannies. He will “argue strongly on just grounds” and he can even persuade the nannies. He also understands politeness. When he sees someone he will take the initiative to greet them, and when he sees someone off, he will say “good-bye.”

congenital deafness; CHD- mild pulmonary stenosis and mild patent foramen ovale (PFO)

NEW PIC OF FRANNIE!

Listed: October 24, 2014

From reading 6.5 year old Frannie’s file, it is clear that this girl will do very well in a forever family! And speaking of files, hers is full of information! Frannie likes to play with other children. She also likes to play with dolls, games, and do puzzles. Her favorite foods are apples and eggs and she like to drink milk. She also loves snacks.

At the age of 6, Frannie began going to a special school. She quickly became a favorite. Frannie quickly learned to follow the teachers and learned some sign language. She is learning more gestures, such as one for her name, the numbers 1-10, and a sign for toilet. She has learned to write many numbers and some words. She is an active student in school and she enjoys games and crafts. Frannie won two awards at school- one for “good child prize”, and one for “small pacesetter who helps others prize.” The awards made her very happy and proud. Her overall performance is excellent! Even when she loses a game, she will smile. Frannie needs some help when it comes to fine motor skills, but she is fond of learning and can imitate quite well. She seems to be very interested in gymnastics and can do many tricks. She is flexible and has talent in dancing. Frannie is enthusiastic, outgoing, and fond of learning. All the caretakers in the orphanage love her very much! It is clear that with the love of a forever family and some guidance, this child will make huge gains and will soar!

Update from someone who knows them very well: We have known them for over 4 years and visited their orphanage over 20 times.  They have autism and are non-verbal and at this time.  They were just transferred to an adult institution right after their seventh birthday.  The boys are one to one and arms length for bolting and mouthing; both at this time are not toilet trained and are on medication to assist with hyperactivity and self injurious behaviors.  Both boys are extraordinarily special to me, however, they must go to a family prepared for all of their needs.  They are not deaf.

Tobias (2)Boy, born August 2007
PRC
Delayed mental development

Listed: Sept 2014

Sweet Tobias was found abandoned at the approximate age of six. SIX..can you even imagine? Tobias has only been in the care of this orphanage for about a year and he recently turned seven years old. At the time he came into care, he was not communicating with anyone, was not potty trained, and had trouble dressing and undressing himself. Most likely a part of that had to do with his profound sadness of losing his family at that age. With the help of his caretakers, now he can look at books, use a spoon to eat independently, can tell the teacher when he needs to go to the bathroom, and he can cooperate with people when they help him get dressed. He sometimes likes to play with other children and he is currently receiving language rehabilitation. Tobias was sent to live in a foster family but attends the school in the orphanage during the daytime hours, where he plays games with the other children and the teacher.Tobias is introverted, but has a ready smile. He does not like to communicate with people. He can complete some simple instructions given by the teacher. He has no facial expression or reaction to strangers. A potential family should be open to speech and language delays. It’s hard to know how much of his needs are true needs versus issues from being abandoned at six at this point. What this child needs most is a family who is open to some unknowns and one who will love him unconditionally for who he is and what he can do!

We were recently informed LORA is actually Tessa!

What a little doll Tessa is!  She really needs a family — she has a whole host of medical issues.

Mental delay, rickets, strabismus (crossed eyes), epilepsy, and a speech delay. She does not talk at all.  She prefers to be alone.  Some of her behaviors remind autism but she was not diagnosed with it.  Her epilepsy is well controlled by medications.  It has been suggested that Tessa may have Angelman Syndrome, but this is not confirmed.

She is able to stand and walk independently. She does not have a diagnosis of CP but she walks unsteadily.   She was previously diagnosed with microcephaly.

She deserves a loving family and a chance to reach her potential, not to be hidden away in a mental institution.

Boy, Born May 2007

HIV+, FAS,  heart defect, vision issues (blind in one eye), moderate mental delay

Relisted: Feb 28, 2014

Kristopher finally available again!!  Kristopher is a handsome young man with blonde hair and brown eyes.   He is very active and is said to be always happy, but he is quite delayed.  Kristopher has significant vision issues, which may or may not be correctable.  He shows many facial and medical features of FAS.

***He can be adopted with Jessica and/or Emerson if a family is interested and approved in their home study ***

From a family who met him in early 2014:  Kristopher is such a sweet boy, and I think he would have so much potential in a loving home! He is very small for his age; he was 6, but looked like about 4 years old. He was definitely more mentally delayed than the other boys in his group, but he could answer questions appropriately, followed directions, could eat by himself and get dressed to go outside with little help. One time we played a game like ring-around-the-rosy, and he knew the words to the song and how to play along. He loved when my husband lifted him up high in the air. His eyesight is poor, and they said he is blind in one eye. He had trouble doing a puzzle, but we weren’t sure if it was a cognitive issue, or because he couldn’t see the pieces well. They told us he has some sort of heart condition, which might require surgery. We did see him showing rocking behavior at times. He got along well with the other kids, although he often played by himself, probably because of cognitive differences. He is so precious and really needs a family!

From a family who met him in October 2012:  Kristopher is a super-sweet boy who is 5 but looks 2 and is happy ALL the time.  He needs to live near a large medical facility, have heart surgery (unless it’s too late), and probably needs a small family that can commit to pretty full care for him. He is darling!

He has shown a little interest in a keyboard to type out words, but mostly he prefers to communicate what he wants with signs, gestures, and noises. He loves one on one attention but can also play quietly by himself if he is not competing for attention.

He can get in and out of his chair and bed by himself, and can independently move around in his wheelchair. He wears diapers and still needs help with eating. There is a very funny video of some things Carlton can do if you would like to see more.

He has good memory, likes to tell stories and is very happy when the care giver is listening to him and asks questions as he likes to answer the questions. Is able to learn a short poem by heart, likes to play and participate at the musical activities. Has a very good sense for rhythm, dances. Likes to work with puzzles, and coloring books. Can name animals, colors, knows letters and numbers, is very noticeable and polite. But sometimes is upset and stubborn, it is observed if communication with him is gentle his stubbornness disappears and he becomes of a very good mood.

Sweet Chantelle has a list of diagnoses, but her main need is a loving family!   A family could help her reach her potential and save her from a life in a crib.

From a family who met her in fall 2013:
Chantelle is mostly kept in a laying room although I did seen her out in the main groupa room laying down in a gated play area. I believe she can roll around. I saw her holding things in her hands as well. She has a calm, sweet spirit and I had her smiling in the first minute of seeing her. I touched her precious little face and told her I loved her and she smiled. The other kids seem to love her and they liked going into the laying room to take pictures of her with me.  Chantelle so needs a family now! She won’t be kept at the baby house much longer. She is soooo beautiful, the pictures really don’t do her justice.

lewis-levi updated picture2 Feb2014LeviBoy, born April 2007
PRC
Mental developmental delay, postoperative left oblique inguinal hernia

Levi is active, social, fond of listening to music and he can get along well with other children. He enjoys musical or movable toys, playing balls, clapping hands and swaying his hips along with music. He is curious about new things and delicious food makes him happy. Levi has attached stable and close relationships with the caregivers. Levi is attending the center’s preschool and loves participating in the class games. He has some difficulties paying attention, but he will listen to someone close to him or someone he knows well. He is very polite and greets everyone he meets. This sweet boy is waiting for a family who will provide him with structure, love and the opportunity to continue his progress.

A $5,000 agency grant is available, and his orphanage donation has been reduced and could possibly be waived completely.

Nash 2015Boy, born 2004

Hydrocephalus

Listed: August 20, 2013

July 2016: NASH HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO THE INSTITUTION :(

From a volunteer who visited with him in July 2014:  ” Nash is still this very small boy. He has the size of a pre schooler. He is really cute though. He loves to have a man around. He showed my boyfriend all around the place. He loves to blow little wind mills and play games together. He doesn’t really speak the language they speak in his country, but he does make all kinds of ‘words’. He actually tries to make you understand and every now and then there will be an actual word in it, which makes it easier to understand what he says. He is potty trained and he understands language and knows quite well how to read the body language of the nurses. He’s a big help for the nurses, he carries toys inside and pushes wheelchairs. We suspect that he has some kind of visual impairment. He had the glasses of my boyfriend on for a moment and he seemed to be able to see much more, but I’m no eye doctor, so I can’t say for sure. All I can say is that this boy desperately needs out. He is quite healthy and he needs a family where he can blossom. He is an amazing boy and I have tons of pictures and a couple videos of him, where he shows his own goofy self. So please don’t let this boy wait any longer. Many of his friends from the orphanage have been adopted, but he is still listed. I want him out there! I want someone to see his potential and love him all the way home!

From a family who met him in Dec 2013: He seemed to be rocking more persistently. I noticed when music was being played or when we would actively engage him play he would rock nervously. However, he is a wonderfully sweet spirited child and is eager to please. He would always great us with a formal, “hello” and then lead us to take a seat. He never missed an opprotunity to rush out of the groupa and jump in our laps or include himself in whatever game we were playing with our boys. He so desperately wants to be loved. He called me, “Mama” and it broke my heart…how I wish I could have taken this precious boy as well. There were many days that we noticed him strapped to a chair or straight jacketed; I am not sure why because I never saw any self injurious behavior from him. He is very impulsive and easily excited but his joy simply radiates a room. He desperately deserves to be loved, valued and wanted….he only aims to please. The first thought that came to mind upon meeting him was, “He does NOT belong here”….he is so smart…though his speech is often slurred; but only slightly. He seems to be minorly effected by his hydrocephaly and gets along very well. His poor little hands do shake though; probably as a result of the pressure on his brain. I am unsure if he has been shunted or not; I felt around his head one day and did not feel the bump that would indicate he has. If he has not been shunted then that makes his case even more urgent. He desperately needs out! This boy has ALL the potential in the world…he just needs the right parents to break him free!  I also have a video with him in it, if a family is interested.

From someone who met Nash in 2012:  Nash is a wonderful little boy. He is always quick to excitedly greet visitors with happy squeals and a formal hello, and is quite insistent visitors take a seat in the chair he brings over to them 🙂  He is very helpful and obedient, and will sometimes bring toys over to the smaller kids in his group who cannot get toys for themselves. He is very talkative, but a lot of what he says is sort of like “Nash”-ese. He has no problem getting his point across, however, if it is important to him that you understand him! He likes to play with just about any toy; balls, legos, cars, light up toys, you name it he will play with it. He enjoys being silly and laughing, and especially thrives with one on one attention. He is generally a happy little guy, but does not like messes or rule breaking, and is not afraid to tell the other children “No” or try to right their wrongs if they are misbehaving. He very much aims to please! I feel Nash would adjust easily to and thrive in a family!

Wylie has a handsome boy who is facing transfer soon.  VIDEO:  https://youtu.be/XEt-iY-OHtk

Listed: August 2013

From a family who visited him in 2015:  He is calm when being walked around but becomes over stimulated easily. He is getting close to being transferred and this will be terrible for him. In the baby house the caregivers have more time to spend with him. In an institution I can see him just being constantly sedated… This handsome little guy needs out now!!!!

From a family who met him in 2014:

Wylie is a sweet boy, and obviously loved by the nannies. They often stooped down to talk to him, and walked hand in hand with him. He walked constantly, clapping his hands and smiling. He exhibited what I would describe as autistic tendencies. I don’t recall ever hearing him speak. One day he wondered out of his groupa (apparently the door wasn’t latched) into the common area we were visiting out son in. My husband took his hand and led him back. He has a special place in our hearts and we pray someone will see him and choose him. I would be glad to talk to anyone interested. He is precious. He’s at a great baby house, that is very pro-adoption, and in a faster region than most.

Frederick update (1)

UPDATE JANUARY 2016:  Frederick now has a wheelchair that he can move on his own,and he is going to be able to go out to the neighborhood school starting this week! He is making amazing progress.

Frederick has low muscle tone, and he has been diagnosed with developmental delays.  He is capable of feeding himself (but he makes a mess!) and just needs more practice to develop that skill.  There is concern about core muscle development, but Frederick works hard, so it is believed that he may be able to walk some day.

Frederick is a hard-working little boy who wants to develop his skills.  He has developed friendships with some of the other kids in the orphanage (both able-bodied and special-needs kids).  He responds well to physical therapy, and in just a couple of months he progressed from simply lying on a mat to attempting to stand and taking small steps.

Multiple unrelated children can be adopted together.

Huey (1)

Huey (2)Boy, born May 2008
PRC
low weight baby when born, HIE with regional cerebral hemorrhage of the right side

Huey was found at the newborn department of the hospital when he was 2 ½ weeks old. He was diagnosed as low birth weight and HIE (hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy) with a cerebral hemorrhage on the right side. He has normal intellectual and body development, but currently he does show delayed language skills.

Huey is shy, compliant and quiet. He loves when someone plays with him and always laughs when playing with others. He can move his body to music and wave his little hands. He enjoys when others clap for him. Just think of the joy he would have with a supportive family clapping and cheering him on!

Grace image 3Girl, born November 2007
PRC
Grace has been diagnosed with Postoperative ASD (CHD). Grace has recovered well after her operation from 2010.

Listed April 2013

Grace is outgoing, smiles often, and likes playing with other children. She is a beautiful girl and is curious about the outside world. When intrigued by new objects, she will carefully observe and explore them. She likes meeting new people, and gets along with other children her age. She is a very active 5 year old. She can run and jump, can feed herself and use the restroom by herself. She can take on and off her clothing independently. She understands the meaning of “no”, can call “father”, “mother”. She can say “one, two” “give” “want” “fetch.” She enjoys listening to music and singing loudly. Even though nobody can understand what she is singing and yelling, she is very happy and involved in it. Even though she does not like speaking, she is very smart and observant. Grace likes to help the aunt to do some housework, such as folding the quilts and picking up toys. When the caretakers are holding the young children and they drop their toys, Grace will take the initiative to retrieve the toys. When the aunts want to feed the babies, Grace will take the initiative to bring them a towel. Her favorite fruits are bananas and small tomatoes. She also likes desserts.

Sept 2004Boy, born Sept 2004Garrett
Coffin Lowry Syndrome, Hydrocephalus, moderate mental delays

Listed: May 20, 2013

Garrett does not speak, but understands speech addressed to him.

From an adoptive family who met him:  I met Garrett in May 2012 and I will always remember how sweet he was.  He was usually the first one to greet me with a hug when I visited.  He was always so excited to show off for me.  When the care-taker announced that they were all going outside he promptly put his shoes on and helped some of the other kids with their shoes as well.  He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Sammy) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows.  It is obvious that they have been taught manners and cooperation and they are very kind to one another.  They are taught at least several days a week so do not let the diagnosis deceive you, they are fairly smart boys.  They all have obvious delays but never had any problems following instructions and they understood everything they were told and all seemed to love to be helpful.  When I show our son (who was adopted from this group) their pictures he remembers their names and tells me they were his friends.  He told me he wants them to be adopted and to come to the U.S.  How I pray that happens for Garrett and the other boys!  Garrett is so sweet and innocent, I hate to see what will happen to him if he ages out of the orphanage.

What a great grin!

From an adoptive family who met him:  I met Sammy in May 2012 and he was one of the sweetest kids I had ever met. Always ready with a smile and a hug! I brought things for all the kids in his group and he waited so patiently for his turn and gave me a big hug after. He was very kind and gentle with all the other kids, especially the one girl in the group. He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Garrett) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows.

How I pray that happens for Sammy and the other boys! Sammy is so sweet and innocent, I hate to see what will happen to him if he ages out of the orphanage.

Travis, Troy, Jake, Nathan, Arnold, Garrett, Sammy, Harold, Harriet, Jordan and Russ were all listed together and may still be in the same region, if not orphanage.
