NOLAN for the Messenger-Carr family — NV

nolan-2016It seems only natural for a person who grew up knowing and loving two people with disabilities to want to become an advocate. Darla grew up with her beloved Uncle Phil, who had a head injury and her step brother Tony, who has Down Syndrome.

While searching for information about her stepbrother Tony, Darla stumbled upon Reeces Rainbow. The very first child she ever saw was a 6 year old boy who had just been listed and his name was “Nolan.” Nolan had sustained a head injury as a young toddler. It was the wrong time for her to adopt, having just had a baby, going through a business lawsuit over her IP and with a mother who had a terminal illness, all she could do was advocate. Fate would take many turns, including inaccessibility during war, but God is faithful and now she can finally go and get Nolan, who is now 12. They also hope to bring home a little girl from Nolan’s area who has captured their hearts.

Darla and Drew have been together since 1997 and have 4 children together, ages 7, 10, 13 and 16. Darla has older children who are now grown and have families of their own. They hosted Nolan in the summer of 2016 and though he can be quite a handful, he is also a smart, loving, funny boy and they are anxious to bring him home, love him and give him a family and begin work on reversing the damage that happens to children who have been institutionalized.
