Diagnosis: Cerebral Palsy
Beau does not make an impression of a child who lives in an orphanage from his birth. Beau is very well developed, already knows how to read by syllables and is able to spell, write and count. The child loves to learn more and will be a promising student in a future. He is kind and friendly with the children and polite with the adults. He can be left alone in a room and will play with puzzles and mosaics for hours. He also likes to draw and is interested in technologies. He is a very accurate boy and likes cleanliness and order. He goes to the bathroom by himself and never forgets to brush his teeth and comb the hair. Beau walks without help but has spastic paraparetic gait.

UPDATE FEB 2012: Alexander's brain tumor has caused vision damage now, and he is due to be treated again soon. The doctors there do not expect him to survive
Only God knows the plan for Alexander, but my goodness, the medical poportunity he has for survival here in the US is so much higher. Hope someone will give him the chance to know that he mattered, even if only for a little while.
From a missionary who visited with him: "I would say his personality seemed happy, cheerful and sociable from the little contact I had with him. I did send an email to my friends that worked with his group to get their opinion since they spent several hours with him for a week. I know he has a brain tumor that is supposedly treatable in the U.S., but the treatment is expected to be lengthy. He has been treated some in Russia and was in the hospital in the spring for more treatment. He’s a very lovable kid and very smart. He remembers people and things that they say and he is very in tune with how sick he is. He understands and comprehends a lot for his age. He loves to dance and get one on one attention (what kid doesn’t?) He’s sensitive and his feelings get hurt easily. Sasha is concerned about others. He always asks how you or someone in the group is doing. He is very outgoing, not shy at all. He loves to sing songs and recite poems for you, and he knows so many! Sasha loves individual attention. You are special to him and he wants to feel that he is special to you also. Simply put, he is a loving little boy who is such a pleasure to spend time with. One more thing: I have lots of pictures of Sasha and some videos of him singing and reciting poems. It would be SO WONDERFUL if he could get adopted and get proper treatment in the USA.
Galen is an orphanage favorite! he has brown hair and brown eyes. Galen was born with mild CP. He is very physically active, able to walk on his own with no problems. The caregivers love him and say he is very friendly, smart and helpful. He does have strabismus.
Galen seems to be much like our Victor. He very much recognizes that he doesn't have his own mama and papa, and wants a family of his own.
Galen is blessed to still be at the baby house. He needs a family of his own!

Rowan is an easy going, able, kind hearted, intelligent little boy who would love to be adopted. He has some notable items on his medical but after a month long visit on a hosting program in the US, he was evaluated and found not to have anything more than a lazy eye that required glasses and a very mild curviture which requires no surgical intervention, as it was so minor it only causes mild aches. Rowans skull plates fused normally, and there is no physcial sign of hydrocephalus. The neurosurgeon did recommend he stay away from full contact sports such as football and rugby just to be cautionary, though he felt he was developing normally and was generally healthy. An opthomologist agreed he responded age appropriate to his exam, and needed a perscription which would help with his mild lazy eyes but saw no other issues. Rowan makes excellent eye contact, gives hugs when appropriate (truly heart warming hugs where you can feel the love) and is shy around strangers. He shows no unusual physchological behaviors and does very well with new experiences. Rowan is an EXCELLENT traveler, rolling his own bag, hopping on and off the escalator with ease and sitting through a flight with music or video. Rowan does very well physically-rides a tricycle, runs backwards and forwards, skips, jumps, climbs all playground equipement, swings (pumps himself), rides a childs 4 wheeler, etc. He does well on mental tasks as well, he matches like items, reads and writes, does up to 48 piece puzzels, colors in the lines and catches onto age level games quickly such as Candyland. He is at a normal height and weight for his age. He really enjoys pop music and can sing rather well. Rowan plays well with all children but is very guarded around boys his age. After time he warmed up to a father figure in the house and was quickly very trusting and helpful to all females in the immediate family. Any family that pursuses this child should know that it will take him a while to trust and play without his guard on around boys near his age. He sometimes hoards his toys or treats around boys, but this is not un-typical as he is growing up in an orphanage and will subside over time. He responds best to gentle but firm redirection, more stern discipline causes pouting as he really feels he is in really big trouble and is not sure you will include him again so families should be kind, fun and easy going. He is truly a wonderful boy that is clearly mis-labeled and is a diamond waiting to be found!! Host family is willing to discuss this child with homestudy approved seriously interested families. Please move quickly so he doesn't have to wait any longer! Many photos and video available.

Marcus is a sweet little boy! He is 8 years old and hoping for his own forever family. He was born with spina bifida. He is not able to walk on his own.
From his medical records: myelocele; Q 5, hydrocephaly; flail legs with damage of functions of pelvic organs.
From our facilitation team: " I personally saw this boy and talked to him. He is a very smart boy. Unfortunately he cannot walk at all, and he uses a wheelchair. I am not sure whether he is toilet trained or wears diapers, because he is a big boy who was uncomfortable with careful attention to him, particularly to his disability. He told me that he wants to be adopted., and that's why he allowed to make a picture of him. He did not want to demonstrate his disability, so he covered his legs with a blanket.
Several kids had been adopted from this orphanage before, and the Director is rather open to foreign adoption. She keeps in touch with all the families who adopted the children from her orphanage. She showed me only the kids who demonstrated their wish to be taken to the family. And when I made pictures all of them confirmed their desire to be adopted. I believe the Director will be very glad if this child is taken to the good family."
The boy is very smart, communicative, and friendly. He wants be adopted.

However, he does show strong facial features of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and the cleft palate and hydrocehalus are common conditions associated with this syndrome. Be sure to research FAS thoroughly so you are prepared for the challenges that come with this special need.

Russ's profile says "goloproentsephaliy" which is unclear, other than there's some condition with his brain. It's unclear if it's a physical or mental condition.
It has been suggested that his 'goloproentsephaliy' may actually be holoprosencephaly like Catherine 9HA, but it would be a milder form than hers i.e. lobar or semi-lobar holoprosencephaly, rather than alobar.
We're hoping to get additional information soon.

From his caregivers: The boy is very smart, friendly, and communicative. He wants be adopted.

Boy, Born October 11, 2003
Patrick is a sweet and able boy who is diagnosed with CP. He does have significant facial features of FAS, although this is not documented in his medical records. Patrick is able to walk and play on his own, and is very high functioning. He is the best friend of MICHAELA. Although they can not be adopted together, they both strongly desire a family of their own and are high encough functioning cognitively to recognize and fear the next transfer.
From our coordinator: Patrick is the very best friend of Michaela. They spend all the time together: playing together, helping each other. He is a smart, inquisitive, very friendly and kind boy. His dream is to have a family and loving parents. He knows he is facing a transfer to an institution for disabled children of older age, where he will not have a chance to develop his potential. The orphanage staff advocates for these two children with all their hearts.
From a family who met him in July 2011: He has strabismus and cerebral palsy. But, as you know, cerebral palsy is a spectrum disorder. He can walk, talk, and play just fine. When he walked, there was a slight halting to each step, but it did not slow him down one bit!! When he came up to us, he looked in my bag and saw "Chutes and Ladders." He kept pulling at it, and then he opened the game board and let out a squeal of delight. Then he went in my bag to find the pieces. I could tell he really wanted to play the board game, but we were in the hallway and there was no room, so I pulled out the box of playdoh. He managed to pull out one of the containers and open it himself (which is difficult for an adult to do!) I showed him how to work the playdoh, and he was so happy. He was able to play and shape playdoh just fine. He was so creative with the playdoh. I helped him make a duck from the stencil and then he pretended it was swimming through the air. He was telling a whole story about this pink duck in his language. I gave (our daughter) the camera, and they kept taking pictures of each other. He kept making funny faces for most of the pictures. When he was done playing with one thing, he carefully put it back where it came from. When it was time to go, he just said "bye-bye" and left. No fits or anything. Such a happy boy. He might not be the most active child, but I am confident he would be a great child for any family.

A six year old boy full of charm!!
This little guy has been enjoying stable health in the past year. He likes to play with cars, puzzles, enjoys riding a tricycle and listening to music. His caregivers state he is an excellent communicator using a variety of verbal sounds, gestures and sign language to share his thoughts and emotions. His medical history includes eczema, club feet, asthma and developmental delay. He can feed himself, drinks from a cup and is receiving speech and occupational therapy as well as regular physiotherapy. Andrew was born to a mother with AIDS. He was treated as an “AIDS baby” until test results in 2007 confirmed that he does NOT have HIV/AIDS. All tests were negative. He has been in 3 different foster homes since birth. He had 2 siblings that were adopted (one domestically and one to another country).
He had laser treatment for retinal detachment and now wears glasses to correct his vision. He receives speech therapy and cognitive therapy. Niko is a handsome devil, isn't he? Blonde hair and beautiful brown eyes. He was born with a congenital anomaly of the urinary system, he has extrophia of the bladder (doctor says this is operable). He is cognitively delayed as well and needs special help with speech. We do not have info about a potential cause for this cognitive delay, but you would have access to all his medical and social history records once you arrive. He is very active and capable physically though, and can really benefit from surgery and a loving family.
Niko has already been transferred to an older child internat and can be adopted with SASHA.
Niko also has a grant available through Project Hopeful.

Ross looks a little forlorn, but he's really chewing a chocolate treat!
His file says he has a seizure disorder, an possibly other mental disorders and brain damage — it is unclear if that all refers back to his seizure disorder. It does not state that he has a mental delay, but it is possible.
It also appears that he has either a lazy eye or vision issues, from the pictures.

Boy, born 3/29/04
An incredibly handsome and charming boy who is seven years old, physically healthy and diagnosed with moderate mental retardation. This little guy is quite independent in self care areas and enjoys eating and playing with others. He lived with his birth family for the first three years of his life, currently resides in an institution and receives speech and occupational therapy. He loves music and books and enjoys the computer. His adorable face makes him a favorite of his caregivers who report him to be popular with his classmates. It is felt that he would make more progress in learning and development in a family setting with consistent care. Resilience is the word to describe this little boy who grieved hard for his biological family and who now longs for a family to love him as their own.
