Adam Lizzie (1) Beginning May 6, 2016, children age 10 & up are eligible for a $10,000 grant. Older children with special needs other than Down syndrome are referred to as “Other Angels” on the Reece’s Rainbow website.

The boy likes to be praised and to receive attention. He wants to be the first and the best, and if it is not so, he shows his dissatisfaction. The boy is very good at making things from clay and plastic, he enjoys that very much. He also likes sports, he is interested in dances and likes to listen to the music. The boy has behavioral problems, he gets angry quickly, sometimes he has tantrums, for example in cases when he lacks attention or something has not happened the way he wants or expects, then he may throw objects, overthrow furniture. The boy is inwardly sweet, but he is spiky from outside. The boy studies in a specialized boarding school for children with mental health disturbances due to behavioral problems, but his cognitive abilities are in average level. Previously the boy has had a surgery for his nose, which has been unsuccessful in terms of visual outcome, but it is surgically correctable. The boy wants to be adopted.

Troy has been transferred to the local Internat. He is listed as having a mild mental delay. (His eyes look odd here because of the red eye reduction used on the photograph.) Troy does not speak, but understands speech addressed to him.

From a family who met him in 2012: The profile says he is non-verbal and that is true, he did not talk at all while I was there. However he was extremely gentle, kind, and had a very sweet demeanor. I took bubbles one day and all the kids mobbed me wanting to play, Troy just stood there patiently smiling at me and waiting his turn. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile on his face. He would sit next to me at the table and would stare very sweetly at me and when I would make eye contact he would put his arms out to give me a hug. I do not know about his cognitive ability because I just did not get to spend enough time with him but he did understand the instructions he was given by his teacher and care taker at the boarding school with no problems, obeying them and following all their instructions (with a smile on his face). Physically he had no problems. I do not know if his lack of speech is due to trauma or an actual inability to form words. I will absolutely never forget how gentle and loving he was, he lives to be hugged and he loved what little one-on-one attention I was able to give him. He was so patient and kind to the other kids. A family would be blessed to have this precious boy as their son!

Travis, Troy, Jake, Nathan, Arnold, Garrett, Sammy, Harold, Harriet, Jordan and Russ were all listed together and may still be in the same region, if not orphanage.

Benjamin is post-operative for a cleft lip and palate. He is an active and restless boy. Compared with children the same age, he is delayed in language development. He can only say some simple words including brother, aunt, sister, etc. He can’t speak clearly and usually uses body language to express himself. Benjamin is able to take care of himself and he is in a second grade special education class in the orphanage. He has strong cognitive and receptive ability and is able to understand most of what teachers teach him. He likes to help the teachers by helping moving the seats, picking up toys, and sweeping and cleaning the floor. He enjoys watching cartoons, including Boonie Bears, GG bond, and Happy Goat and Bad Wolf. He enjoys outdoor activities and likes playing with toys and building blocks very much. Benjamin is a happy boy who would thrive in a family that could help him with his speech and possibly use some sign language with him while he is learning to communicate verbally.

Hyatt is independent in his dressing and eating skills and can make his own bed.He is a good helper and helps his caretakers empty the trash and hand out the chopsticks and bowls to the other kids at mealtime.

From recent update 6/2015: Sailor’s mental development is the same as kids of same age. He walks well since he got the artificial limbs. He has no issues with toileting. Sailor is active, extroverted and outgoing in familiar surroundings, but he will be quiet in front of strangers. He is well behaved and obedient to his foster parents. His gross motor skills are good. He can walk, run, walk upstairs and downstairs. He can play also basketball and soccer. His fine motor skills are good- same as kids the same age. He can put thread through a needle. Sailor’s language ability is the same as his peers. He can express his needs very well. He can follow directions just as well as kids the same age as him. Sailor’s emotional development is good. He is very attached to his foster family. He cares for the younger kids at home. and he gets along well with other kids. All the kids like him. He has been in the same foster family since 2010. He is very happy in this family. Sailor is not able to attend school.

Zaniel is a very handsome, good natured boy who is 9 years old. He came into care as an infant, and was found to be in good health with a deformity of his right hand. Zaniel joined a foster family when he was 3, and quickly became more outgoing and social. He especially enjoys spending time with his older foster brother. Zaniel attends school, where he is an average student. He much prefers to play sports! Zaniel’s overall development has been the same as his peers. Growing up without a right hand, he has adapted very well. Zane wants to have a family of his own, and we hope his wish can come true soon!

He has a heavy and pronounced sensorineural hearing impairment. Speech and language disorders. Hyperkinetic behavior disorders. He has difficulties with concentration and focus. The boy must use hearing aid regularly, must be consulted by a speech therapist.

He is attending a specialized school for children with hearing impairment, in a simplified program. He likes working with computer, watching TV, roller-skating and riding a bicycle. He gladly takes part in hobby groups. The boy has adjusted to the community of the institution partially. He enjoys being alone, but has adapted to new surroundings well, he is active, friendly, communicative. The boy has low motivation for studying, he has behavior issues – sometimes he can mistreat other children and then lay blame on others. There have been cases when he has taken things that don’t belong to him. The boy wishes to live in a place where others understand sign language. The boy has expressed a wish to be adopted abroad, because he had good experience in a host program.
Ryan, the younger brother, has brown eyes and brown hair.

His diagnoses: mental development delay with pronounced behavior issues on the background of a social and pedagogical neglect.

He is currently attending a specialized boarding school. His level of knowledge is lowered, the boy reads slowly, cannot tell a story about what he just read. The boy has issues with both writing and simple mathematic calculations. The boy is very active, very brave and smiles a lot, but has behavior issues. Pronounced anger can be seen when the boy is tired. The boy regularly argues with his older brother, they provoke each other. It may or may not be caused by the fact that the boy doesn’t know sign language that is a big obstacle in creating a good communication with the brother. The boy requires attention, emotional support and individual approach.

Shawnessy is a curious, lively and outgoing boy, described by his host family as “truly joyful.” His hosts report he is obedient, very intelligent, and doesn’t show developmental delays. He watches others and learns quickly, easily figured out a smart phone and complicated electronics. His letters are very finely formed, and he has good fine motor skills. He adapts easily to new situations, loves music, and keeps himself occupied. All his teachers in his country like him and he gets along well with his classmate and he always wants to help others. His school performance is good. Though he doesn’t speak clearly, that doesn’t impede him from communicating with others. He likes TV, cartoons, and playing with his many friends. He had surgery for anal atresia in infancy, has a droopy eyelid and only one kidney.

Andrew lives with a foster family since 2004, for his better development and he feels warm towards his family. His foster parents take good care of him, and he has become more and more active and bright. His vision problem which was resulted from albinism didn’t affect his daily life, his physical indexed are within normal range.

Andrew is a bright boy; sometimes he is shy in front of strangers, but he is joy for his parents at home. He often helps his mother do something within his power such as sweep the floor, wipe table, wash clothes etc. He is a good student at school, respect teachers, studies hard, help other classmates, has good word of mouth, often praised by teachers and classmates.

He is such a good boy, and we sincerely hope he could have a secure and happy family in which his parents love him very much.

Update 2014: Andrew has mixed feelings about adoption. He would like to have his own forever family but his very best friend was recently placed in hers and he misses her … A LOT. He feels the emptiness in his own life that her adoption has left. When Andrew was asked how he felt about adoption, he immediately put his head down and sobbed, and sobbed and sobbed. His caregivers were able to explain the loss he feels about his dearest chum. Andrew shared with the team he would also like a chance to be adopted.

Jensen is a very handsome and likable boy who turned 8 years old in June. Jensen was born with arthrogryposis, which mainly affects his wrists, elbows, and ankles. He had surgery on his legs in 2010, which was very successful. He can walk and is able to take care of all his needs. Jensen is a smart boy, who attends school at the orphanage. He gets along very well with the other kids, and is well loved by the adults there. Jensen is able to write, and likes to do crafts. He also enjoys sports! He is talkative, and has a happy personality. Jensen is described as optimistic and energetic. He is a delightful boy, who longs for a family of his own.

The boy likes talking and telling, he is sweet, friendly, active and dapper. The boy has average level of skills in studies. Since the boy resides in the out-of-family care institution, he has become calmer, signs of hyperactivity have reduced. The boy dreams about having a mom and a dad, a real family. From a family who met him in March 2014:

Easton is an incredibly cheerful little boy. The nannies told us that he is smart and talks with them, though we were also told that he is delayed. In fairness, Easton spends almost all of his time in a crib. He would either be sitting or laying when we saw him.

Easton always seemed to be very aware of what was happening around him. One day when a nanny was getting our son ready for his visit, we did a little dance behind her and Easton laughed. He would often smile brighter when we would wave at him across the room while picking up our son on our visits. I believe Easton would flourish in his own family.

Minimal brain dysfunction, pyramid insufficiency, secondary cardiomyopathy, anomalous chord of the left heart ventricle, hypermobility of hip joints, concomitant alternating convergent squint.

From a family who met him in late 2013:
Stephen was in Riley’s groupa. We saw him a lot during our 7 weeks of visits. He stood out because he’s 7 yo and taller than the other kids in his groupa of mostly 4-5 yo’s. He is a SWEET, sweet boy. He has a great smile with dimples. He’s not overly active (not hyper). Very obedient/cooperative and follows instructions and the flow of the groupa well. An easy going kiddo. He doesn’t seem to have very significant needs. He functions very “typically”, maybe just mild delays. One thing I’ll never forget about Stephen… one time when we were invited to watch a performance the kids were putting on, we were one of the only people in the audience. He stood there, singing and doing the body motions to the production just as well as could be. He kept looking right at my husband and I like he was performing just for us. He just seemed to love having someone be there for him and encourage him, and nod and smile and let him know he was doing a good job. He was working so hard to do his best and he did so well! It was sweet and sad all at the same time….knowing we weren’t his mama and papa and he didn’t have anyone there to give him that recognition forever, that he so appreciated. He would make such a delightful son! We would have brought him home too but were only homestudy approved for one boy. He’s in a good orphanage that provides good care and services. But who knows where he’ll be transferred to when they no longer have space for him (he’s already over age.) I have pictures and video of him. Such a kind, happy little boy….he needs a family!!!

Luca is all boy! He adores mechanical devices and toys, with any action involved. He can spend a long time concentrating, studying the secrets of mechanics. Most of the time he plays alone as it isn’t easy for him to interact with others. When he gets tired of talking he goes to a corner and sits there for a long time. There are not many chances for him to be alone at the orphanage.

Luca prefers routines; it’s hard for him to deal with changes in his surroundings. The usual routine, having the same people around and things in usual places create for him an illusion of steadiness and reliability in his world. It calms him down and gives him some confidence. Unfortunately, soon Luca will have to drastically change his life. But, it would be better for him if he gets used to a foster home than to the institution.

Although he is a thin boy, he likes to eat. His mood changes like the weather on a spring day. He could be crying one moment and the next moment laughing. Classes are not always interesting to him but. He appreciates when some adults help him with his homework.

Jory was found abandoned beside the road at the age of 3 months. He has had corrective surgery to treat tethered spinal cord syndrome, meningocele and congenital cleft spine as well as right cross/club foot. He has normal intelligence. He likes to listen to music and sing. He likes playing with trucks, cars, and balls. His right leg is slightly shorter, but does not seem to impact him. He can walk, run, jump, and go up and down stairs well. He is currently in kindergarten and is doing well. He is patiently waiting for his family to find him.

UPDATE June 2016: Jory is developing very well in all areas. He is able to express his feelings through words and art forms, especially drawing. He is very talented in drawing, and it is all self-taught! His drawings are full of details and stories, and his choice of colors and lines are amazing! Like most other boys of his age, superheroes are often the theme of his drawings. He loves his group home and his friends. He is caring, and able to stand up for himself when necessary. Academically, he excels at school. He knows a lot of Chinese characters and is able to read books with a little assistance. He knows how to use a dictionary, and he says he wants to make friends with his dictionary. He is very active and full of energy, even though he has to stay in bed because of a broken leg. He is eager to be able to walk and jump again. He is very humorous, and he enjoys making others laugh. He loves singing so much that he would sing along all the way on the school bus, which is a 45 minute ride! He also likes legos. He is fascinated with how things are made and how they work.

Jory has been watching his foster siblings and his friends getting adopted one after another, and he often wonders what would happen to him and if anyone would “pick” him. He says if he gets adopted, he would like to have mom and dad who are kind to him, who would bring him Legos, just like the other parents who adopted his foster brothers. It is hard for him, or any other waiting child, to truly understand that unconditional love means you don’t have to make an effort to be loved, you don’t need to earn your adoption and forever family. It is our hope that he can have a family of his own who will love him, cherish him, enjoy him, and show him what true love means.”

In talking to them, it sounds like Jory would greatly benefit from a comprehensive Spina Bifida team to look at all his problems and take an integrated approach. He needs good and consistent PT as well as custom braces, which are things not available to him currently. While Jory is able to walk despite having one significantly shorter leg, it is not safe for him to do so again until he is adopted and has these services/devices. His shorter leg has decreased bone density, so he has broken the leg once, hip once, and dislocated the hip once by walking. These injuries required three major orthopedic surgeries, and he has been on bedrest much of the last three years. The only benefit to this is that he has had private tutoring and is actually ahead of his peers academically!

Jory desperately needs a family to adopt him and help him get the medical care he needs so that he can walk again like he wishes to!

From someone who met Brody in 2011 and Auggie in 2012: Brody and Auggie are sweet little boys who appear to have some sort of genetic disorder that causes developmental delays and self-harming behaviors. They are not aggressive towards others, only towards themselves, and these behaviors can be halted temporarily by picking either boy up and spinning him around. Brody is able to walk, and can drink from a cup without help. He is not quite able to feed himself, but is willing to try. Auggie was in a laying room for over a year, but after only 3 months of physical therapy is now sitting independently and working on learning to stand. Both boys have wonderful, heart stealing smiles. Brody appears to be in his own world much of the time, and loves things that crinkle or light up, and things shaped like sticks, as well as hands, gloves, feet and socks. He shows numerous signs of autism, which may or may not be environmental. Auggie loves things that crinkle or light up, slinkies, music, and tv. He is more interactive than Brody, and appears to lift his arms up to indicate he would like to be held. This is the only form of communication I observed from either of the boys. The boys are currently living in separate orphanages. I pray a family will reunite these brothers together in one family, where they can receive all the love and attention they need to meet their full potential!

We hope a family will consider adopting them TOGETHER.

He knows the function of money. He is very loved by his foster family and has a good understanding of what a good big brother is.

Their half-brother Tyce is 12 and suffers from some mental and physical delays. He is a very sweet boy who has been very poorly treated. These three lost their parents when they died during the Ebola epidemic. Piper herself had and beat the virus, but has some lingering side effects from the virus.

Hanson is an extroverted boy who is 10 years old. He was found on a staircase at the subway station when he was 4 years old. His limb and intelligence development is delayed compared to peers, but his motor skills have improved with 2 years of post-operative rehabilitation. When he was admitted, he could only walk short distances and would fall down easily, but now with an improved, but not completely steady walk and run, he can walk long distances, go upstairs and downstairs while holding onto rails and even likes to play outdoor activities. His right hand function has also gotten better as he can grasp most objects and can eat with a spoon. His language development is quite delayed compared to his peers. He can say 3-5 words, and understands simple vocabularies. He is very curious and observant of the things around him, and desires to communicate through play.

Hanson received surgery in October 2012 for posterior rhizotomy of spinal nerves and right carotid sympathectomy part stripping resection. Now he receives postoperative rehabilitation. At this time, Hanson’s muscular tension of left limbs is not high, and his language ability is developing.

Mike has lived in a foster family, and made great progress while living there. He went through rehabilitation for his cerebral palsy and while his walking isn’t steady, his daily activities are not affected. He is able to take care of himself. We hope Mike finds his forever family!

Update from his host family: Mike likes to eat just about anything and everything, and in large amounts. He likes to play Uno Attack, and likes to ride a bike when the weather permits. He also enjoys going to help his host dad with the pigs on the farm. Mike likes hugs, and gives and receives them. The host family enjoys singing, and he seems to like it too; he has learned some songs and is always trying to sing along with them. The host family believes Mike will do best in a family that is ready to be very firm, structured, and consistent with him. He has a heart that desires to be loved like every child. The host family is very willing to try and meet up with a family if someone wants to meet him.

From an adoptive family in summer 2012:
We saw Denis three different times at large group events at this orphanage, and he is a very cute little boy. He is small for his age, and he was in a wheelchair the times I saw him (that may have been just for transport). But he was alert and following what was going on (a puppet show once, and a musical performance another time) with real interest. He looked content and in a good mood every time we saw him.

This region typically waives the 10 day waiting period for children with special needs.

Update March 2014:
Denis is a very handsome little guy. He is nonverbal, but makes a high trilling/singing sound or squeals when he is happy or trying to communicate. He looks like he is about the size of a 4 year old, however his abdomen is quite large (barrel shaped) while his arms and legs and hands are very thin and tiny. He is in a wheelchair and does not walk. His little body shakes often, from his head to his toes, which may be seizure activity. He’s very alert and watches what goes on, but does not appear very interested in interacting with people specifically. He is in a room with many other older, more mobile boys, so he may simply feel overwhelmed with the activity and constant movement.

From a family who met him in 2014: This little guy tried for 5 minutes to get my attention before I could come over to him. Although he is mostly nonverbal, his receptive language is good, and he was able to follow instructions and respond to our conversation. I asked what he could do physically, and he immediately began pushing the cover back and trying to flip over, to show me he could roll, and pull up on the side of the bed. He is very sweet, and so very much wants OUT of the bed and to be up walking, but without proper medical intervention and regular therapy, he won’t be able to. His outgoing, sunny personality is absolutely wonderful! His biological mother died 4 years ago, and he entered the orphanage then, so he had that solid foundation of a loving mom during the important years. From a CP perspective- all four limbs are involved, and he has high tone in his torso that makes it difficult for him to sit up, because when he gets excited, his tone kicks in and it flattens him back out. He also has significant spasticity in his legs, particularly in his heel cords and hamstrings. That is something that in the USA might be treated with a medicine like Baclofen, which would allow him more flexibility. He’s very affectionate and easygoing, and constantly tries to get up and move around like the other kids. He just really needs a family to help him reach his potential!

Dennis is living in a group home. His gross motor skills are developed, but his fine motor skills are not developed enough. It is hard to get his active attention. The passive attention prevails. His concentration is weak, and he is not good at memorizing. There is no logical thinking. His drawings are mainly scribbles, but some shapes can be distinguished. Intellectual development – mild mental delay in the development of the intellect. The child draws attention to himself on purpose. He is loving and emotional, sometimes even obsessive. He sometimes shows verbal aggression when defending his personal space. High level of anxiety is observed. He is communicative and when communicating he can express his feelings. He seeks the company of older children and adults. He doesn’t have notion of authority and hierarchy in school. He likes to sing and dance.

The child prefers to play alone. It is hard for him to fit in a group. He can read short words and when writing he writes in a straight line. His active and passive vocabulary has improved. He can count till 100 without knowing the algorithm of forming the numbers. He is in 5th grade and needs help and solicitation. He has self-service skills and can feed himself. He is independent when in familiar surroundings. He has a positive attitude towards adoption.

Elijah needs a family asap, because he needs constant care, and at the orphanage he doesn’t receive it. They fed him with wheat cream only and how he is feeling sick all the time, it’s hard to feed him, so that at orphanages he just remains hungry sometimes.

He can walk and likes music and playing with mobile phones. He likes watching TV and doesn’t speak much.

Elijah really responds well to a male caregiver — he needs a Papa of his very own!

He still has some self harming behaviors and lets you know when he’s not happy! But most of the time he is calm and has the cutest giggle. “

From someone who met him summer 2013:
Elijah is a beautiful, sweet child. He is nonverbal but he occasionally makes some noises. Unfortunately, when I saw him he had to be restrained most of the time because he would hit himself and bang his head … hard. He now has a one-on-one caregiver, and I hear he is doing very well. Elijah likes to watch tv, and he loves musical toys. When you play music for him, he just lights up in a huge smile. He has an infectious laugh. While I was visiting, Elijah had surgery to fix a malfunctioning shunt. I was able to visit him in the hospital. The dedication of the man who is now his personal caregiver was amazing. Elijah can walk with support, and he loves to be held and cuddled. This little blond-haired child looks like an angel, and he would bring nothing but joy to a family’s life.

A family living in the states who has 3 children, one who is significantly disabled, has taken a special interest in Nolan but cannot add Nolan to their own family due to the needs of their children. Per the family, “Nolan’s eyes and smile caught our heart. He is close in age to one of our own children. We hope this gift will enable someone to give Nolan the chance to live outside an institution.”

Hunter likes to eat a lot. He and his brother Forest have a lot of energy. He really likes to do arts and crafts and play games. Most of the time he has a very sweet disposition. He is very keen to interact with adults. That being said if an adult is too rough with him things will start to escalate. If an adult tries to swat at him or restrain him in someway he may attempt to bite. Hunter can speak pretty well but he can’t always communicate what’s going on with his emotions. Hunter responds best to strong male figures. An attentive dad is key to a positive adoption for him. He is in grade 4 here but he can’t read, write, do math, or anything like that right now. He is schooled by himself and school mostly consists of arts and crafts. He is not unintelligent but very delayed. He likes soccer. He would be great in an attentive family where he and his brothers will get much attention and where they will be by far the youngest children. I would adopt him myself if I could be as focused on him and his brothers as he needs a dad and mom to be and if we had the space for them along with our current 3. He enjoys picking fruit and cleaning in the orphanage. He is never been far from the orphanage and he is interested in coming to America. He has communicated that he really wants to come to America and really wants a papa.

Forest, the middle boy, was born in Aug 2006:

Forest likes to eat a lot. He does school the same way his brother Hunter does. He is considered to be in the second grade. Very sweet but also very active. Like his older brother, he needs to need a lot of attention to keep him from unintended harm. He likes to be outside. He has minor institutional self harming tendencies like scratching himself to leave marks. He does not do that a lot though. Forest loves to give hugs and kisses and hold hands with the adults.

Ridge, the youngest brother was born in Aug 2008

Ridge likes to clean. He was mopping the floor with an adult sized mop as I wrote this. He is a very small but sweet boy. He’s a very peaceful and charming child. He is not in school yet but he seems to be the most intellectual of his brothers. He will likely do better in school then his brothers when he gets the chance. He is so cute it is hard to imagine him spending another day without a family. When the boys orphanage shuts down Ridge will be separated from his brothers for several months because he is not old enough to go with his older brothers. I expect this will be a very traumatic time for him, so if a family could come for him as soon as possible that would be best. No family should hesitate to adopt these children as long as they are available to give the time and attention that these children deserve. If that is done the children will flourish.

From a family who met him in July 2015: Pearson is a Lost Boy. He lives in a horrible institution. Pearson is nonverbal. I only heard him laugh. I never heard other sounds; that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t make them, I just never heard them while I was there. Pearson picks up quickly on things, like making a ball light up, or scribbling on the magna-doodle. He has a wonderful smile, and LOVED making his blue spiky ball light up. It is not in his file, but judged on behavior and facial features, we are pretty sure that he has FAS. We were not able to adopt Pearson because we have small children in our home, and also another son with major needs. Pearson is a beautiful boy, but he lives in a place that chews the boys up and spits them out. He was taken into government care as a baby, and has been there since. He most likely entered this institution when he was 5 or 6. That is a very long time to be neglected. It is a very long time to suffer the boredom and trauma of this place. He is very easily overstimulated. Every few minutes he is overwhelmed and his behavior reflects that. He needs constant supervision, and a home without small children. While he is very sweet and likes to throw balls, he also has a tendency to run away, break things, pull hair, head butt, spit, etc. The more he is worked with, the better his tolerance to stimulation will be. Someone without small children, and someone experienced with institutional behaviors would be best for Pearson. He is a beautiful, broken boy, who needs a mama and daddy to help him calm down, to play ball with him, and to love him and put his pieces back together that the institution broke.”

From a family who met him in Fall 2013: Pearson is doing so good!! He is precious and sweet! I saw him from a distance every day. The first time, he was with a group of boys having their picture taken in the fall leaves. He always did what the nanny told him to. He walks very well, and he likes holding the nannies hands. My favorite day was when I walked past their group and he was right in front of me on the sidewalk, and before the nanny could move him, I bent down and in Russian told him how sweet he was. He took my face in both of his hands, and pulled me down so our foreheads were touching, and just stared in my eyes. I kissed his cheek, and his whole face lit up!! And he has the most adorable splatter of freckles! He is smaller than I would have thought too.

He had several surgeries in 2005 and is now in good health. He has good bowel control, and moderate control of urination but he does not need to wear diapers.

Galan is a clever and intelligent boy, who gets good grades in his 5th grade class. He gets along well with other children. He lives in a foster family with whom he has good relations. When we met him in late June, he was all smiles, especially when playing with our iPad. He counted, demonstrated that he walks and runs without issue, and was friendly and happy to meet us.

It’s not easy to find a home when you’re a 13 year old boy. Maybe you could be the parents that Gavin needs to reach his full potential?

Bright eyed Frank is very extroverted and outgoing. He gets along well with others and is active and clever. He is 8 years old and has been diagnosed with postoperative left inguinal hernia and a cyst of pellucid septal cave. Frank has had no symptoms or discomfort so no treatment has been done for his cyst. Frank has been doing very well and has been living with a foster family since 2006. Under the care of his foster family, he has grown up healthily. Frank has a good appetite and likes to eat meat. He also loves apples, bananas, potato chips, and candy. He is not afraid of strangers and can say hello to strangers on his own initiative. Frank likes to spend time with his friends and loves cartoons. When he sees an exciting scene in the cartoon he will jump about joyfully. His favorite activity is riding bikes and going for outdoor walks in the summer.

Update 2014: In 2007 Frank’s foster parents noticed a swelling on the right side of his groin and took him to the hospital where surgery was performed for right inguinal hernia. Almost four years later they noticed swelling on the left side of his groin and he had surgery for left inguinal hernia. Frank is now reported to be healthy. His favorite foods are rice, noodles, mild, eggs, fish, meat, vegetables and fruit – he is not picky. At the time of his report in March 2014 he was in the 3rd grade and described as a very good student with special skills in computers. Frank is said to be a sensible and hardworking boy who is curious about new things. The report also states he is good at sports and his favorite summer activity is riding a bike outdoors. His favorite toys are cars and Transformers. Frank is described as a lovely and active boy who is praised by his foster parents and teachers, but in his heart, he wants to have his own family.

Update 2015: Frank is a healthy boy who is a very good student with special skill in computers. His host family says he is a tender-hearted young man who is very smart and knows and understands a lot of English. He is cautious and likes to follow the rules, and he acts like a protective big brother to younger children in the program. He is enjoying the legos and the hot wheels race tracks and is very exact at following the directions to put new things together. He is also good at making up his own patterns with the legos. He had hernia surgery in 2011 but is now reported to be healthy.

Update 4/2014- The director of the agency states that out of all the kids she has met (and she has met MANY), she has 3 boys who are her favorites. She calls them her babies. Oskar is one of them! She wants him to find a family so badly- she just loves him! She says that he is so sweet and a very nice boy. Oskar has a great personality and makes great eye contact. He repeats everything that is said in English like a little parrot. Oskar is just a little sponge and is inquisitive and wants to learn English. He has a lot of friends and lives with a foster brother who he is so sweet to. They could not get the foster brother to open up so Oskar came over and sat down with him to help.

He is fairly extroverted; he likes any interested things, including all kinds of toys and games. Once he is interested in it, he would be seriously involved it. Adam is a sweet, easy to please little cuddle bug. He is very much like a cuddly, curious little toddler. When I first met him he did not seem interested in me at all, but as time went by he began to want affection, and would grab my hands if I stopped rubbing his head and put them back on his head.

One day I picked him up and from that moment on he wanted to spend most of my time there in my arms. When I arrived he’d jump up from his little wooden chair, and hurry over to me with his arms raised. If I didn’t pick him up fast enough he’d try to climb up into my arms using nearby chairs or beds, and he would not hesitate to grab items from my hands and set them down to free up my hands so I could hold him. He also began to cry whenever I left. He loves wind up toys and toys that vibrate, and would giggle happily and flap his hands to show how excited he was about them. His other favorite toys were a pony he enjoyed chewing on, any sort of car, and some legos that made a train. He is not verbal but was beginning to make noises to communicate. I tried to teach him to sign more one day, by signing hand over hand with him. When I asked him to sign it he took my hands and helped me sign it. He seems to me to have a need for love and affection that can only come from a loving family. I would love to see him thriving and meeting his full potential, as well as bringing joy to as many people as possible!

What a great grin!

From an adoptive family who met him: I met Sammy in May 2012 and he was one of the sweetest kids I had ever met. Always ready with a smile and a hug! I brought things for all the kids in his group and he waited so patiently for his turn and gave me a big hug after. He was very kind and gentle with all the other kids, especially the one girl in the group. He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Garrett) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows. It is obvious that they have been taught manners and cooperation and they are very kind to one another. They are taught at least several days a week so do not let the diagnosis deceive you, they are fairly smart boys.

They all have obvious delays but never had any problems following instructions and they understood everything they were told and all seemed to love to be helpful. When I show our son (who was adopted from this group) their pictures he remembers their names and tells me they were his friends. He told me he wants them to be adopted and to come to the U.S. How I pray that happens for Sammy and the other boys! Sammy is so sweet and innocent, I hate to see what will happen to him if he ages out of the orphanage.

They have an older brother born in 2004. He is in the special school orphanage and has severe mental delays.

If a family decides to adopt all 3 children it will be great!!! If they want only two younger siblings they are to be approved for 3 children and to get referral to meet ALL 3 siblings. Then if they decide not to adopt the oldest one we will do the best to “separate” them. I think it is possible, but we cannot guarantee it for sure. They have a younger brother as well, and he has already been adopted.

Kippy is a handsome, active boy! He came into care as an infant, and was found to have an infection of his left eye when he was small. The infection did not resolve, and resulted in the loss of his left eye in 2012. A prosthetic was inserted after surgery. He healed well, and has had no further complications. His right eye was never involved. Kippy is a normal, healthy, active, and fun boy! He attends school and enjoys learning. Kippy’s development has always been on target. He gets along very well with the other kids, and loves the adults at the orphanage. Kippy and the other kids were invited to a Christmas party at the Marriott. Kippy made gingerbread and was praised by the baker of the hotel! He was a very happy and proud boy! Kippy is healthy, a bright boy, and is very eager to have a family of his own.

From a volunteer who visited with him in July 2014: ” Nash is still this very small boy. He has the size of a pre schooler. He is really cute though. He loves to have a man around. He showed my boyfriend all around the place. He loves to blow little wind mills and play games together. He doesn’t really speak the language they speak in his country, but he does make all kinds of ‘words’. He actually tries to make you understand and every now and then there will be an actual word in it, which makes it easier to understand what he says. He is potty trained and he understands language and knows quite well how to read the body language of the nurses. He’s a big help for the nurses, he carries toys inside and pushes wheelchairs. We suspect that he has some kind of visual impairment. He had the glasses of my boyfriend on for a moment and he seemed to be able to see much more, but I’m no eye doctor, so I can’t say for sure. All I can say is that this boy desperately needs out. He is quite healthy and he needs a family where he can blossom. He is an amazing boy and I have tons of pictures and a couple videos of him, where he shows his own goofy self. So please don’t let this boy wait any longer. Many of his friends from the orphanage have been adopted, but he is still listed. I want him out there! I want someone to see his potential and love him all the way home!

From a family who met him in Dec 2013: He seemed to be rocking more persistently. I noticed when music was being played or when we would actively engage him play he would rock nervously. However, he is a wonderfully sweet spirited child and is eager to please. He would always great us with a formal, “hello” and then lead us to take a seat. He never missed an opprotunity to rush out of the groupa and jump in our laps or include himself in whatever game we were playing with our boys. He so desperately wants to be loved. He called me, “Mama” and it broke my heart…how I wish I could have taken this precious boy as well. There were many days that we noticed him strapped to a chair or straight jacketed; I am not sure why because I never saw any self injurious behavior from him. He is very impulsive and easily excited but his joy simply radiates a room. He desperately deserves to be loved, valued and wanted….he only aims to please. The first thought that came to mind upon meeting him was, “He does NOT belong here”….he is so smart…though his speech is often slurred; but only slightly. He seems to be minorly effected by his hydrocephaly and gets along very well. His poor little hands do shake though; probably as a result of the pressure on his brain. I am unsure if he has been shunted or not; I felt around his head one day and did not feel the bump that would indicate he has. If he has not been shunted then that makes his case even more urgent. He desperately needs out! This boy has ALL the potential in the world…he just needs the right parents to break him free! I also have a video with him in it, if a family is interested.

From someone who met Nash in 2012: Nash is a wonderful little boy. He is always quick to excitedly greet visitors with happy squeals and a formal hello, and is quite insistent visitors take a seat in the chair he brings over to them 🙂 He is very helpful and obedient, and will sometimes bring toys over to the smaller kids in his group who cannot get toys for themselves. He is very talkative, but a lot of what he says is sort of like “Nash”-ese. He has no problem getting his point across, however, if it is important to him that you understand him! He likes to play with just about any toy; balls, legos, cars, light up toys, you name it he will play with it. He enjoys being silly and laughing, and especially thrives with one on one attention. He is generally a happy little guy, but does not like messes or rule breaking, and is not afraid to tell the other children “No” or try to right their wrongs if they are misbehaving. He very much aims to please! I feel Nash would adjust easily to and thrive in a family!

Sebastian was raised by his birth family for 5 years and was severely neglected during that time. He entered into government care and was placed in an orphanage. In 2013, he was moved into a group home where he began receiving therapy and individual attention. He has made REMARKABLE progress since being placed in the group home. He is now walking independently, feeding himself solid foods, drinking from an open cup unassisted, saying a few simple words, putting his shoes on unassisted, locks and unlocks doors with a key and moves around the group home and yard independently. He enjoys swinging on the swing outside. He loves attention from adults and responds very positively to interactions with other people. He seeks out interactions. He is very inquisitive and loves anything electronic (cell phones, tables, cameras, etc). The staff continues to work with him to develop skills and believes that he’ll continue to make great strides in different skill areas.

Leroy came into care as a baby, and by the time he was two and a half his caregivers were already describing him as extroverted, clever and with sparkling eyes full of mischief. An active little guy, he loved to dance happily in his chair to music. Even as a little tyke, he showed a calm and patient nature when adults were too busy to play with him, and he loved to interact with them when they had time. He’s grown into a handsome boy who lived for some time with a foster family including a mother, father, and another boy a year older who was also a foster child. When agency staff met him in 2010, despite having been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, he was walking independently for short distances, and he could run but would sometimes fall. At that time he wasn’t speaking very much. We’re looking forward to the update we’ve requested, to see how he’s doing now. Like all kids, Leroy needs the love and support of a forever family.

The application fee and pre-approval deposit has been waived for Leroy. In addition, there is a $4000 Child Grant that may be available to families through the agency.

Ellis is a handsome, active, and conscientious boy who is 10 years old. He came to the orphanage as a baby, with a cleft lip and palate. Both have been repaired (2004 and 2006). Ellis’ speech is not always clear, although he works very hard to correct it. He is healthy. Ellis loves to go to school! He has such a thirst for knowledge and wants to learn all he can. Before his first day of school, his nanny asked him what he liked most. He replied, “The happiest thing is to have a new bag, new folder, and new pencil!” Ellis has expressed his desire to have a family of his own, and looks forward to a life in a foreign country. He is a good “big brother” to the little ones at the orphanage. He enjoys playing with his friends at the orphanage and at school, and is a good helper to the orphanage staff. Ellis needs a family.

Byron is a bright child, whose cognitive abilities are the same as other children his age. He speaks in complete sentences with clear pronunciation, other than a slight regional accent. He has no problem communicating with adults, and can express his ideas and needs freely. In December, the orphanage sent him to a foster home for special training to help his cerebral palsy, and before too long they saw big improvements! His muscles were weak from lack of use, but he had a strong desire to learn to stand and walk. After six months of therapy he was basically independent in daily life. He gets along well with other children in the foster home and at school; when they occasionally have a disagreement they work it out quickly. He enjoys playing with toy cars and balls, and also likes drawing and doing handicrafts. Byron also loves field trips! This determined boy is waiting for a family who can help him continue his great progress!

The current agency has a $4000 grant available for Byron.

$10,800.00 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption!

Joshua is described as introverted, friendly, shy, funny, a follower (he has a big brother in foster care), and a little naughty. He doesn’t like school. He attended public school in the past, but is now in the Sunshine Academy in the orphanage. Joshua reads well and is very well spoken and very logical. Joshua was initially raised by neighbors and was brought to the orphanage at a later age. The neighbor family wanted to keep Josh, but they were too old to care for him. The foster family takes good care of Joshua, but they are not strict about studying. Joshua is very artistic and he loves art. Joshua wants a big family and he likes cats.

Sweet Barry is now 12.5 years old and waiting for his forever family to see him. He was abandoned at a week old and was found by a stranger with a birth note. That person took him in and raised him until he was about 4.5 and then he was turned over to the local orphanage. It was determined when Barry came into care that he had cerebral palsy, but that he was very smart. He did need to use a walker when walking. Barry started receiving rehabilitation therapy once he came into the care of the orphanage. Barry wears orthotics on his legs in addition to using the walker for support. He is very determined and persistent and now insists on practicing standing with the support of the wall for 1-2 hours each day. Barry is a fighter and is very optimistic. He respects his elders and loves the younger children. He helps the nannies with what he can and helps take care of the other children. He practiced for two years so he could perform at the Chinese New Year celebration. He sang a popular song and his optimism affected everyone in attendance. Barry deserves to know the love of a forever family and sounds like a boy who would do so well in a family where he is able to receive the therapies he needs. Timmy had a brain tumor removed last year, there is a lot of medical info available to interested families. There is also $7000 in AGENCY grant money. Timon is a handsome boy who has overcome some amazing odds. When he first came into care he was dependent on others for help and care. Under the care of the center he became an independent and chatty boy who was doing so well. In Feb 2015, his caregivers noticed some irregularities in his gait and activity level. A CT scan showed enlarged ventricles and a tumor mass. He had emergency surgery for shunt placement and tumor removal. The surgeon believes all of the tumor was removed and it tested benign. Timon recovered slowly and has been able to become independent again in caring for himself, eating and talking. His speech remains slurred and slower but he is understandable. He is also back to being able to read and write. In early April 2015 Timon had a second surgery to place an external shunt to drain fluid from the area where the tumor was located and to allow for brain growth. The surgery went well and the plan is to remove the external shunt after 6- 12 months. While the long term effects of these surgeries is not fully known and further brain scans will be needed to monitor for any recurrence, Timon has proven himself to be a fighter. He has shown great courage in all his surgeries and therapies. He has shown great perseverance and commitment to doing well individually and in the therapies that have helped him recover after surgery.Timon is an overcomer and needs a family who sees his potential and can help him reach it. Joseph is a handsome and active boy who has just turned 10 years old. He came to the orphanage as an infant, having been found by a caring citizen who was out for his morning exercise. There was a birth note in the box, so his birth date is accurate. Joseph had weakness in his right arm and leg, and was diagnosed with mild CP. He had surgery on his right arm in 2007. His range of motion with his right arm is limited. The doctors discovered he had mild hydrocephalus; however, subsequent CT scans have shown it is self correcting. There has been no need for medical intervention. Joseph had a seizure in 2012, and has been on medication since that time. We are unclear as to the type of seizure, and hope to receive an update soon. Joseph lives with a foster family, and they report he is a friendly boy, who enjoys playing with the kids in the neighborhood. Joseph attending a boarding school, and returns each weekend to his foster family. He likes school, and his many friends there. Joseph needs a family of his own. Video is available!

NEW PHOTO! Stephen is such a treasure. We want a family for him so desperately. He is about the size of a 6 or 7 year old- just an itty bitty thing. The nannies say that he is blind, but we believe he can at least see shadows. He always wants to be near the window- especially on sunny days. There are two places you can usually find Stephen- either standing under the window at the end of the hall, or sitting on a chair in the kitchen, waiting for the next meal.

Stephen is extremely sensory-seeking and needs to feel the world around him. He loves to spin, flap his arms, spin some more, run, spin, you get the idea. He has absolutely no sensory input at the institution- so he has to create it himself.

He does not speak and displays many institutional behaviors. He is NOT harmful or aggressive to himself or others. He is absolutely adorable and has so.much.potential. He is more than a diagnosis.

From a family who has met him many times:
This boy is absolutely exploding with energy. He’s really unsteady on his feet so he’s constantly roaming the halls half-running/half-falling. He loves to touch and craves physical contact. Sometimes we can get a glorious moment of quiet when he will just let us hold him and wrap our arms around him. He really does love that and it does wonders for his brain development. It’s just a matter of getting him still enough to realize he likes it!

He loves any kind of sensory play, like feeling the dirt outside and holding his hand under a running faucet. He likes to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, even though he doesn’t need a wheelchair! The best thing we can do for him is take him on walks. He likes to be outside so sometimes we just get him outside and follow wherever he leads. He doesn’t have any words, but when he gets excited he gives his signature shriek to let us know he’s excited. He needs a family who can provide him with a lot of structure. Right now he is constantly seeking sensory input, and getting into a lot of trouble doing that. We believe he would thrive within the structure and love of a family.

Elijah was found abandoned at the orphanage gate at five years old. On admission to the institute it was found that he suffered from cerebral palsy, was tested to have normal intelligence and was found to have weakened lower limbs. Although he tried, he could not walk, and he was given a wheelchair. He showed his strong will, and integrated into the group life in the institute. At the age of 7 years, he liked to play games with peers and share the toys with other children. He is polite to others, and always smiles at strangers who visit the orphanage.

He has received physical therapy at the institute, and after great diligence and perseverance on Elijah’s part, he can now walk slowly while holding onto handrails. In the institute, he is an obedient and sensible boy, and he is adored by the caretakers and medical staffs. The nannies and orphanage directors hope a family will chose him as he will make a wonderful addition to any family.

Tobias is currently at the very bottom of the shared list. Until this month, his file sat with only one update in 8 years, which is still untranslated. As is very common in orphanages for children with no vision, it is possible that Tobias has not received the necessary stimulation and training that every child needs for proper growth and development. His latest update reported that he is delayed compared to his peers. This is not surprising since he does not attend school. Although small for his age, he is a healthy boy. Small toys that make noise are his favorite. He is not a picky eater, but is not very interested in snacks. Tobias struggles to communicate with those around him, and the orphanage staff says that he displays autistic tendencies.

Jack desperately wants to be adopted! Jack was born with bilateral cleft lip and palate, which was repaired when he was two.He has some ear deformities, and has partial hearing loss. In spite of that, he communicates freely. His communication skills have taken a big leap forward in the past couple of years. He is very tall, and has beautiful big eyes and long eyelashes. Jack is friendly and outgoing. He plays well the the other children, and they like him a lot. He has many friends.He loves to make things, and his favorite activity is handcrafts. He would love to become an engineer, because he likes to fix things. He also thinks that if he was an engineer, he could make a lot of money and but a car. Jack likes noodles, dumplings and chicken. Oh, and chocolate too, he tells me with a laugh.He is still hopeful that he might be chosen, even though he has waited so long.

Jack is so eager to have a family and go to America. This is his dream. He asks the caregivers constantly if a family is coming for him. He asked me, “Is it today?”

From his host mama:
Jack is a great kid who likes to engage people with his sense of humor. He has a lot of energy but can focus and be still when needed. He is very willing to try new things. He is easy going and has been happy to go along with our family’s routines. He loves to make things with his hands in a constructive and mechanical way and likes to figure out how things work.

He has moderate hearing loss in the right ear, but it does not hinder him. He communicates well and is picking up English words easily. His repaired cleft lip/palate do not seem to bother his speech and he prefers soft foods, noodles being his favorite.

He does not appear to have much confidence in school work and struggles and or quits when he can’t do something well. He doesn’t have many social skills but that is to be expected and will require patience and attention to help him “catch-up”. However his manners are perfect and he is very sweet with the younger children in the hosting group.

Comments from our Facilitator: When they say that he does not understand and does not implement any instructions then I have a problem as it was totally different when I, and an adoptive family played with the ball with him. Harding was clearly showing his interest in the game, participated very well, expressed his joy and ability to throw the ball purposely to me or other person who invited him to do.

Meaningful sounds: yes he is not speaking, but when we played with him, and I was asking whether he wants me to „mesti“ ( give him a ball), after playing for about 15 minutes he started to say „met“ and would nod his head and smile and laugh. So there is a lot of potential in him. He is in GOD‘s hands with his big HOPE for someone to really give him constant care and attention and not only to be fed and cleaned and sit .

Harding was always very interested when we were coming and he always wanted to be a part of our meetings with another child. He understood very clearly that something is going around in his group. He lives in a clean and nice environment, but definitely in an environment which does not provide any individual attention even when he goes for his classes. He likes them and is always happy as it is his time out of the daily environment he is in all the time.

Comments from a U.S. adoptive mom who met Harding while she was in country, Dec 2014: It’s hard to convey just how loveable Harding is in person. He is very small, the size of a preschooler, and thin and he has the sweetest, sunniest smile. He is definitely a favorite of the caregivers and every time we were there we saw someone picking him up and cuddling or kissing him. And Harding just basked in this attention and affection! His gross motor skills are much better developed than his fine motor skills and he has great mobility in his wheelchair. He can crawl a bit and pull himself up on furniture. We played a throw-the-ball-to-the–person-across-the-circle-from-you game with several of the children and he LOVED it! He also caught on quickly to how the game was supposed to be played and did a good job throwing the ball. He likes bright toys and toys that light up or play music and he adores books, magazines and newspapers. Many times we would see Harding zipping by in his wheelchair to a comfortable corner where he would pour over the advertising section (full of bright pictures) from the newspaper. He is curious and friendly and seems to like being in the middle of whatever is going on. One day he was sitting on the couch with an older boy and Harding climbed all over the other boy, stroking his hair and pulling at his arms – a sort of toned-down version of the affectionate wrestling that my typical boys do whenever they sit together. Harding’s needs are many, he does not feed himself or do any self-care and the orphanage staff say that he does not speak, but he is a charming, engaging little boy and deserves a family who will adore him and help him to reach his full potential.

Sherman is outgoing, clever and diligent. He enjoys talking with others and likes to imitate sounds and actions. Sherman enjoys listening to music and loves to dance! He is curious about new things and likes to read books, look at pictures, listen to stories and go outside. Sherman has mild CP and his physical development is behind other children of his age. He has been in a foster family since 2006 and really thrived in that environment. Sherman likes to be independent and is a great helper!

Update from his host family: Sherman is being hosted in the US this winter! Sherman is a super sweet boy who is easy to fall in love with. He is overall very obedient and does a good job communicating despite language differences. He has been picking up some English, including counting and saying things like, “bye-bye” and “good night”. He gives and receives hugs, kisses, and high fives easily. He is polite and will say, “Thank you Mama” when the host mom gives him something. He gets very excited sometimes and will get very loud and animated (both when he’s happy and upset). He is very ticklish, smiles and laughs a lot, and loves to dance, which is super cute! He is also quite the poser for the camera. He is pretty easy going and has become easy to correct. When he really wants something or things don’t go his way (i.e. losing at a game) he will whine and pout, but usually can be persuaded to have a better attitude pretty quickly. He likes to play by himself a lot, but will play with others sometimes. He doesn’t seem interested in watching TV, unless it’s a Chinese cartoon (then he could probably spend hours watching if you let him). Sherman likes playing in the backyard~ going down the slide, digging in the gravel, riding bikes and scooters around. He also seems to like putting the train track together and running the train on it. He found the game, “Trouble” and LOVES IT! He also got the card game “War” for Christmas and has enjoyed playing that a lot. The host family played bowling on the X-box with Sherman, which he thought was the coolest thing ever. He loves the computer and will ask to go on it a lot, and the host family got him an mp3 player for Christmas which he now listens to all the time. When he first arrived, Sherman could do a 24 piece puzzle independently, but was frustrated and unable to do puzzles larger than that. The host family gave him a 48 piece puzzle for Christmas, which he tried to trade with the host daughter, because she got a 24 piece puzzle that he could do. Of course, she didn’t want to trade because hers was a princess and she can’t do bigger puzzles either. Anyway, we have been working on how to do puzzles together (separating the edge pieces, looking for all the pieces for one particular part of the puzzle, etc.), and one day he called the host mom downstairs to show her that he had put his 48 piece puzzle together completely independently! She was so proud of him! The host family hopes Sherman finds a forever family soon!

From a family who met him, Sept 2012: Alexei is really a handsome guy and I think he knows it! He was playing ball with his groupa and is very active. When he was given a cookie from us he said thank you appropriately and made perfect eye contact. He will be a joy to any family with sons at home!

From someone who met him in 2013: Brayden looks to be about 4 years old, not 9. He’s a very energetic and happy little boy. He would always run up to the missionaries. He is in the same groupa as Collier. He loved it when we went outside, and when the older boys swung him around. He also loved swinging on the bench swing and on one of the bouncy cars. He has some speech sounds, but it is very difficult to understand. Brayden is also very caring, and has the most infectious smile. I believe he would be a very good fit in a family.

Update March 2014: He is a very enthusiastic and high energy little guy with obvious microcephaly. He spoke, but very minimally, and makes a lot of other noises- squeals and such. he is very assertive, especially when it comes to getting something he wants (like candy and fruit!) and seems to have poor proprioceptive input, and is unaware of how frequently he bounces into people and things lol (very common with FAS, and typically addressed through an improved sensory diet and occupational therapy, for more info, read about the Out of Sync Child). He seems like a sweet little boy.

He has been diagnosed with complex CHD: cardianastrophe; left atrium structure in both sides; ASD; moderate back flow of common valve, double exit of right ventricle, pulmonary artery stenosis, and A-P fistula or window. Due to the severity of the condition for this little boy, he has not been able to receive treatment at this time. The severity of his condition does impact his daily life as he is not able to partake in intense actions. In 2009 Robert studied in the preschool and had normal development. His caregivers note that he is very cute and clever and gets along well with other children. He enjoys reading and playing games with friends.

He was quite happy doing whatever he was doing before being brought into the room but having his picture taken was not high on his priority list. I can’t tell you his eye color because he down-right refused to look at me, but those blonde curls sure were cute!”

He loved the fishing activity at the park because his favorite animal is a fish! He was very determined to catch as many fish as he could. Sweet Francis needs a family. He does not currently sit up, but I think he probably could if he were given an opportunity to be out of his chair and get stronger. Overall, Francis seems to be physically healthy, aside from his CP. I suspect his cerebral palsy affects his upper and lower body. He is very tight. More concerning is his emotional well being. Francis does not get much mental stimulation or interaction, outside of his immediate basic needs. The caregivers are kind and do love him, but are unsure what to do with him. He gets good basic care. He is fed and is clean. He is not left in a crib. He sits in his orange chair all day long. I tried to talk to Francis and touch him. He is very uncomfortable with touch, but he has the sweetest blue eyes and I know that the right family could draw this little boy out of his shell. Please someone, take a chance on Francis. He will thrive with the proper care and stimulation.

Merritt recently (February 2013) had eye surgery to remove cataracts. That surgery was successful, and he will hopefully have follow-up surgery to correct his crossed eyes. He has been diagnosed with mild mental handicaps, and he exhibits autistic-type tendencies.

Merritt is a delightful boy who loves one-on-one attention. He loves music and has a bright smile. He is capable of feeding himself, but he just hasn’t had many opportunities to do so. Since his eye operation he has begun to verbalize. He also participates in water therapy each week to help him work on using his eye sight.

Patrick has osteogenesis imperfecta, this means that his bones break easily. He is in a wheelchair which he is able to wheel around himself. He lives in a community group home and has just started attending local primary school.

From someone who met him in May 2016: Patrick is 11 years old and is in the care of ICC in China. He lives in a group home in the local community for high functioning boys. He receives schooling from an ICC teacher and the necessary supports to become more independent. Patrick is loved by all who know him, he has a cheeky smile and is very sweet. He knows some basic English such as: good morning, good afternoon, good evening and some food items like apple, and others.

Patrick has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) or brittle bone disease. This means his bones break easily and that he must be careful. He therefore moves around in a wheelchair, which he can do quite well. There are other families who have adopted children with OI who would be happy to talk to potential adoptive families about their experiences adopting a child with OI. Email Erin to get in touch with those families.

While Patrick is living in a family style environment, this does not fully replace the love, support and opportunities that being adopted would give him. He is close to the boys he lives with and already knows what it’s like to be a brother (to some extent). We hope and pray that the right family will be able to adopt Patrick.

Patrick is extremely cute and endearing and everyone loves him. He is very good at complementing people and making them feel good.

He needs a lot of love and attention … He is a good, sweet child, but he has a lot of self-injuring behaviors. Unfortunately, he is often restrained because he hits himself really hard.

From a family who visited with him in June 2013: I saw Jason this morning. I got to take him for a walk in the stroller, play with him, feed him (twice!), and get him ready for his nap. He is wonderful. He loved it when I made my hand crawl up his belly and tickle him under the chin. I was rewarded with loud laughing and a huge smile. He liked to have me rub his feet, and whenever I would stop he would stick his little foot up for more. He makes noises but he does not talk. He can walk if he holds both of your hands, but he prefers to crawl as he can go faster. He is the king of the bouncy seat. He sits in it whenever he can, and he shooed away another child who came too close. 😉 He is about the size of a four year old and is in a 4/5 shirt. He’s heavier than I thought he would be, but I can carry him easily. I’m totally in love.

He has a really good sense of humor and definitely understands everything going on around him. He was never inappropriate with us but had no trouble cracking jokes.

The foster mother carefully teaches him to read, count, sing, etc. When the mother teaches him nursery rhymes, he can follow her without missing one word. Seeing other children going to school, he would say to the mother ”I also want to go to school.” The mother told him that he can go to school with other children together this September. The energetic boy likes playing with little children very much. When guests come to his home, he would take the initiative to share greetings with them, welcoming them with much enthusiasm. He takes care of younger brothers and sisters very well, getting along with them very well.

Cullen has been through WAY too many living situations and he needs a true *forever family*. The agency can provide more details on this for you.

Cullen was born prematurely at 32 weeks gestation and was kept alive on an incubator for 4 days. His birth mother reported that she used amphetamine weekly since 16 weeks gestation, but Cullen was not reported to have any withdrawal symptoms. Cullen was diagnosed with cerebral hypoplasia. The EEG report showed that his brain displayed electronic activity, but no abnormal findings were seen in the brain waves. Cullen was diagnosed with severe mental developmental delay, mild physical disability(lower extremities), and was suspected with autism but has no diagnosis. He is on medicine treatment for his epilepsy (Depakine, 4.5cc daily).

His teachers say that he is a well behaved student who often gets small awards from his teachers. Quilliam gets along well with other students and likes to help.

He is an honest, outgoing, kindhearted child who loves to listen to stories on the radio and loves to share stories about his school day with his foster parents. Who wouldn’t enjoy having a son who actually tells you what he did at school instead of just saying “Nothing.”

Niles was born from first pregnancy and delivery and was born at 38 weeks, his weight at birth was 305g and height was 54cm. He scored 10/10 on APGAR. He was born with an asymmetric face, his left side of his face and his nose were pushed towards the right, due to pathologic position in the womb. The symptoms of irritability were noticed after his birth: increased muscle tonus, tremor, and when he cries his skin turns reddish. The blood test was done and the boy was diagnosed with polycithaemia, neonatal cerebral irritability. The state of the health of newborn was satisfactory, there were no observed complications.

Niles is quiet and struggles with jealousy. He willingly gets involved in educational activities but sometimes has trouble learning the materials. He does not know how to read. He enjoys drawing, moulding, folding, and making appliques. He likes imitative activities and can express everything and does so very well. He can draw himself, a mother, a home, and flowers, can you tell he wants a mother and home of his own? He plays computer games. He wants to play with other children very much but always wants to be the leader. He has good hygiene and is self sufficient. He communicates with his peers and adults willingly. He adapts easily in new surroundings. He thinks positively about himself. He struggles to express his own opinions.

Niles says he wants a mummy and daddy very much.

This little boy does not have a mustache, the children were eating a snack just before their pictures were taken 🙂 However, he does show strong facial features of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and the cleft palate and hydrocehalus are common conditions associated with this syndrome. UPDATE Jan 2015:
Brian is being hosted in the US this winter! Brian is quite mischievous and needs firm guidance, but the host family is happy with him. He has come out of his shell and is much more outgoing. Brian is becoming more comfortable and confident with his surroundings and is more willing to engage with people. He is engaging with other kids and having fun with them. Brian is independent, mischievous, strong- willed, but also pleasant, funny, and persistent (when he wants to learn something, he sticks to it for quite a while.) He likes to tease, and he smiles a lot! He is very interested in playing the guitar, playing ping pong, and learning how to ride a bike. Naturally, he prefers noodles and rice, but he is willing to try other things. Although he does not seem to be a great fan of American food, he did like grapes, muffins and eggs. He also ate hamburgers and requested pizza.

Brian’s intellectual development is close to that of children of his age. He is outgoing and can express himself well. Brian often raises questions and is very curious. He loves singing and performing. He likes to dance to music and can recite children’s songs. He loves to listen to stories, see pictures and watch cartoons. He enjoys outdoor activities. Declan is able to attend school and makes average grades. It is said that he listens carefully to the teachers and respects them. He also loves to do hard work and earns awards from the teachers. Declan enjoys numbers and studying. He is a leader that unites his classmates. Declan loves to be outside in all types of weather, including snow. He gets along well with the other children and he likes playing games and playing on the outdoor playground equipment. Once he gets to know you a little, he becomes talkative and has a ready smile. He has strong language skills and expresses himself well. He doesn’t see objects clearly due to his weaker vision, so his actions can seem a bit timid and slow, but he does see colors fine. Declan’s gross motor development is stronger than his fine motor skills. He adapts easily and has strong self care skills. When it comes to eating, Declan has a reputation for having possibly the largest appetite in the dining room! Declan has waited long enough for a family- please help us find this great boy a family!

Konner Allen Konner and Allen live together in a group home. The boys have both expressed a desire to be adopted. A member of the agency’s team visited the boys in July 2016. Both boys were very friendly and communicated openly with the team. Konner indicated that he loves technology-phones, computers, TVs and that his favorite sports are soccer and basketball. Allen sang several songs and expressed that his favorite food is French fries. Photos and videos from this visit are available through the agency.

He is communicative, emotional, happy and very observant. He can adequately express his emotions and recognizes the emotions of others. There are no concerns regarding anxiety and depression. He is not aggressive to others and to himself. When reprimanded he can correct his behavior and say he’s sorry. He asks for help when needed. The child expresses his thoughts correctly and his vocabulary is satisfactory for his age. He uses complicated sentences. He can’t pronounce some of the sounds. He can understand the meaning of words and sentences. The child is always happy, calm and smiling. He likes to be the center of attention. If somebody takes a favorite toy from him he seeks help from an adult. He plays with different toys. He can draw within the limits of a piece of paper. He can color but goes out of the margins. He plays with play dough. He follows the rules in the group home. When playing he likes to be dominant. He prefers games that have a lot of movement. When listening to music he improvises different movements. The child just finished 4th grade and goes to school regularly. He is not interested in learning. He reads dividing the words in syllables and writes dictations with mistakes. He can add and subtract to 20, but to 100 it is hard for him. He knows the multiplication table.

He holds the scissors and pencil in the right way. He is really well oriented about space, time and himself. He recognizes shapes, objects and forms. He easily remembers verses and songs. He recognizes the colors and knows the seasons. He easily concentrates on a given task. His memory, storage of information and reproducing information are normal for the age. He has good imagination. The child is calm, smiling and happy. He is communicative, emotional, and inquisitive. He can adequately express his emotions and recognizes the emotions of others. He is not aggressive to others and to himself. John will turn 16 in January 2017 and he can no longer be adopted due to the visa requirements of the US. John is one of the most loving, kind and tenderhearted young boys that you will meet. Anyone that meets him are drawn in by his sweet spirit despite the fact that he has been through so much tragedy in his life. John fell out of a Mango tree when he was 4 years old and it caused an injury to his lower back- his disc is damaged and at times it pains him so much and will impact his ability to move around without hindrance. John keeps persevering despite the pain it causes him and he is able to keep his good mood.

Kipper is a handsome and outgoing boy who is 9 years old. (Note: his photos from his file have spots on them…these are not skin blemishes) He came to the orphanage when he was about 3 months old. They discovered he had hearing loss, with no other developmental issues. Kipper began “language recovery training” when he was 4 years old. At that time, his left ear was at 90dB, with his right ear having more hearing ability at 75dB. Kip had no language at 4 years old. He attended the language center during the week, then returned to the orphanage each weekend. He received hearing aids in 2010, and was soon able to repeat words and phrases. He is now able to speak in full sentences. Sometimes Kipper’s speech can be hard to understand, but for the most part, he can communicate with others with no problem. Kipper is a very smart boy, who quickly learns new skills. He has a fantastic memory, and can quickly recall passwords he has only seen one time. Kipper is a very compassionate boy, who looks out for the other kids. One friend at the orphanage is blind. He and Kipper are good friends, and he is able to understand what Kipper says every time. He refers to Kipper as his eyes, since Kipper helps him so much. Kipper is a sweet, active, energetic, and loving boy who wants to have a family of his own. He is inquisitive, polite, and eager to learn. He will be such a great addition to a loving family!

Handsome Ryland is diagnosed as having Congenital Heart Defect (CHD): transposition of the single atrium, single ventricle and great arteries with moderate stenosis of pulmonary artery. The CCCWA asked the agency Ryland is listed with to advocate for him because they want him to find a family and know that he needs to get out quickly. If that doesn’t tell you this kid is special, read on.

Ryland’s file is outdated so the agency he is listed with has requested an update for him. From his 2013 file: At the age of 4 years until now, he studies in the preschool class. He can recite many children’s songs, can recognize common words, can count 1-100, and can do addition and subtraction within 10. He is toilet trained and can dress and undress independently and button clothing. At that time he was not able to tie his shoelaces. He is polite and can greet people. Ryland likes watching cartoons and imitating. His language ability is normal- he can tell about things, can tell what he see, and can ask questions. He is helpful and kind to others, helping his orphanage brothers and sisters up if he sees them fall down. He does well in school and gets his homework done. He likes studying and is clever. Ryland is described as having normal mental and physical development besides his serious heart condition.

This part of his file was too sweet not to include: Ryland has been living in the welfare institute since he was young. He regards the welfare institute as his home. There is the common mom in the institute, as well as caretakers and children who are like brothers and sisters to him. The institute is like a big family- everyone lives together and studies happily. He does feel lonely here. If one day he is adopted, he will miss the kids and caretakers here. He will visit them if he has chance. Returning home is his dream. He is looking forward to his own dad and mom. If he can be adopted by foreigners, he will be very happy. He would like to be adopted. Ryland sounds like an amazing child! We are looking forward to what his update has to say about him and hope to find him a family who can expedite his adoption and get him home soon!

There is a $3,000 agency grant for Ryland’s adoption with the current agency he is listed with. Other grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances. Agency grants are awarded as agency fee reductions.

Denny has got some spunk and personality! Denny is diagnosed with hydrocephalus. His orphanage has asked for help in advocating for him because they feel he is special and are surprised he has waited so long. From an April 2015 update: Denny’s mental development is normal. His language is behind his same aged peers. He can only say one word or two words at one time. If there is something new, he will ask, “What is it?” Though he cannot speak a whole sentence, he can understand all directions from adults and can express his needs very well by words and body language. His response is quiet and he has good memory. He is fully potty trained. Denny is introverted, but he smiles a lot. He is stubborn sometimes, but he is well behaved and obedient. Denny’s gross motor skills are totally normal. He can run, walk, jump, walk upstairs and downstairs. His fine motor skills are also normal. Denny studies at home. A special education teacher visits him 1 or two times a week. He can catch up with his study. He is very attached to his foster grandma and he cares for other kids. Denny is very helpful. His foster grandma was cooking congee and he saw it was overcooked, so he rushed to tell the grandma right away. He helps take care of the younger kids in the family. Denny gets along well with other kids and adults around him. He has been with the same foster family since he was little.
