Jenny

Girl, 12.5 years old
PRC
Cerebral palsy, developmental delays

Listed: January 2018

Jenny is a hardworking child, as long as there is encouragement from caregivers, no matter how difficult a project or task is, she will try to complete it, but she sometimes needs to ask for help from the nannies. She couldn’t roll over when she first came but now through the efforts of her caregivers, she can crawl quickly if you let her go, and now she can go where she wants to be.

She is practicing crawling (with her elbows, not on fours) but she falls easily and rolls over. Jenny stands every day on a stand and does fine motor and daily knowledge (general knowledge). The nannies care about Jenny, probably because she is willing to interact with them. Jenny has a good sense of humor, and she can always find things that funny or fun. Jenny is learning to eat now. Her greatest difficulty is the tension of her arms, and her arms cannot reach very high.

Jenny loves to play new games and tries new activities. She can identify a lot of picture objects; airplane, pencil, animal, ladder, different person, and so on.  She can use pictures to choose or answer questions.

Jenny knows her colors, some shapes and many other things. She can express her feelings and but she seldom cries, unless she is sick. When she gets sick she will cry to tell you that she doesn’t want to do what she usually does every day.  Jenny will express happiness, excitement, anger, being full after eating, fear, un-comfortableness, hesitant, and willing/unwillingness and she will always find ways to let other people know what she wants.  Jenny’s nannies care for her very much and call her “Daughter” and their dream is to see her like a butterfly opening it’s wings to fly.

Paxton is a wonderful, kind teenager who would love to be in a family. She is so full of joy and creativity. She loves to draw and creates beautiful pieces of art. She also has an interest in photography, and a desire to learn to play an instrument. Paxton has congenital
tricuspid atresia. She had a bi-directional Glenn Shunt in 2007 and TCPC surgery with fenestration on 23-Dec-15. Prior to the 2015 surgery she had poor circulation which has caused clubbing in her fingers and toes. When waiting for surgery, her oxygen levels were low and were not supplying to her extremities well. This clubbing is purely aesthetic and does not affect function in any way. Prior to her surgery, Paxton had trouble going up and down stairs and had swelling in her legs. This is no longer the case post-surgery.

Paxton is very active. She loves to ride her bike and jump on the trampoline. Paxton’s heart condition is very stable. She is on two maintenance meds with therapeutic response. She requires monthly blood tests as one med is a blood thinner but if she were adopted she would likely have access to meds available in other countries that would not require this. She is in third grade at school in the 2017-18 school year, due to a very late start, but she enjoys going to school and appears intellectually normal. She is able to add, subtract, divide, multiply, and complete math word problems. Her smile lights up a room and her kindness is ever present with the other girls in her home. She enjoys spending time with the other teenagers in her home, spending time by herself drawing, as well as engaging in games with the younger children in her home.

Down syndrome

Listed: January 2013

Alan just turned three years old, and although he can stand by himself and crawl all over the furniture, he is not quite yet able to walk. His foster father has been taking him on tricycle rides to strengthen his legs and improve his balance. Alan seems to be enjoying himself immensely!

Alan-update

Alan is speaking some family words such as “mama,”, “uncle,” and “sister” and is learning his colors and how to build a tower. Also, Alan can turn the pages of a book and is quite curious. Based on our reports, we can just imagine this handsome little guy snuggling on the lap of a mom or dad of his very own and read book after book. He will surely be a happy addition to some very lucky family!

Update 2014:
Alan has truly blossomed! He is very smart and also very clever! With his foster mother’s assistance he can count to ten; she is also teaching him colors and shapes. With his new found knowledge, Alan believes he is now a teacher and he can often be found teaching his younger foster sister a school lesson.

One of Alan’s favorite things to do is to play outside. Although he wishes to play outside everyday, he knows when it rains he has to stay inside and always lets his foster mother know this. Alan has great physical strength and he can run and jump. His favorite game to play is hide and seek. Alan is also a little ham and whenever the camera comes out, he will stop what he is doing and pose. He also has some pretty impressive dance moves. As soon as the music starts playing he will start dancing by shaking his hips.

Listed: August 2017

Perry is a handsome and sweet recently turned 12-year-old boy who is full of smiles and so very ready to have a family of his own! Perry participated in an Ambassadors of Hope camp in the fall of 2015. He was the oldest of all the kids in his group, at just ten. Perry draws well and is a good-natured boy who follows directions and shares with others. His volunteer at that camp stated: “At first glance, he seemed to have so much going against him that he could have been forgiven for feeling defeated; instead, Perry smiled easily and stayed positive despite the cerebral palsy which put him in a wheelchair, and left him in an orphanage.” There is a terrific blog post about Perry that really shows just how special this sweet boy is. Please help us spread the word about Perry!

Perry’s special need is cerebral palsy. He is fully continent, but he does not walk. He uses a wheelchair to get around. Perry needs a family who will see past the wheelchair and see the amazing child that he is and the terrific son they could be missing out on!

Victor

Boy, born 2007
PRC
Cognitive Delays, Speech Delay, Albinism

Listed: August 2017

Victor is an incredibly helpful and thoughtful 10 year old boy. Victor is living in an orphanage. This sweet boy is so sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. One of his favorite activities is playing on the slide, but if he sees a younger child at the orphanage waiting to go down the slide he will make sure that they get to go first.

Victor spent a short time living in a program home for children who are blind. He made great progress at this home. During this time, his caregivers reported that every day after school, Victor would help his teachers tidy up the classroom without being asked, then would sing the younger children to sleep with the songs he learned in school that day.

The agency is urgently seeking a family that is experienced in parenting children with trauma from hard places, and who can provide Victor with unconditional nurturing care so that he can heal and thrive as a cherished son.

Victor’s current agency is offering a $3000 reduction in fees.

From a family who met him in June 2014:

This calm little guy came up to me with pleading eyes for attention and is just so polite. God has heard his prayers, and now he is listed for adoption! He is not overbearing or competitive at all. Rather, he is observant and inquisitive. He is about the size of a six year-old and just so gentle. I would take him home in a heartbeat if he was available before. He takes turns riding the red wagon around the orphanage grounds as the bigger boys pull him, and he gestures politely for fresh fruit when he sees it is available. He is kind to other children. He says a few words in his native language, and listened carefully when I was giving descriptions of my family photos. I have confidence that he would do wonderfully in any kind of family, and it is obvious– he can surely reciprocate love! He enjoyed throwing balls, going on walks, playing see-saw, and listening to English descriptions. Whoever adopts this little love will be so blessed to call him a beloved son.

30815195533Guardian AngelGirl, born Dec 2008
Hydrocephalus, Severe mental delays

Listed: August 2013

She is a very sweet and kind girl and extremely needs a family.  She will be 5 this December, so any new family may commit to her and start preparing a dossier.

She has siblings, but none are available for adoption; 2 older sisters live with birth mother and 1 younger sister has been adopted.

From a family who met her in summer 2013:
She was in my kids’ groupa.  She is the sweetest little thing and needs out of there ASAP!!!  She has the most noble quiet nature about her.  She is mentally delayed but has so much potential.  She was one of the least favored children in the orphanage and she is desperate for love.  On one occasion she wandered over to the play shelter where we were playing and was trying to eat our daughter’s cookie.  We didn’t have any extra (we brought treats for the groupa every three days or so) so my husband just picked her up to distract her and as soon as he did, she threw her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder just soaking in the attention.  I can’t bear the thought of her being transferred!  She already has it bad enough.

Lily

Girl, age 13
Cerebral palsy; post-op club feet, strabismus (operated)

Listed: June 2017

Lily gets around by crawling, walking with support from an adult, or walking with her gait trainer. She receives physical therapy daily and is working to improve her walking. She loves dancing and attends dance class in the community.

Her communication is improving quickly and she is speaking in sentences, although it is hard for some people to understand her. She is intelligent and attends school, knows the alphabet, is learning to read, can type on the iPad, knows her colors, can count objects to 15, can do simple math problems, is potty trained, and feeds herself. She is just starting to sound out words when reading and can spell short words. She has great potential to learn if given the appropriate interventions. She builds strong attachments to her caregivers, getting sad when any adult she loves goes on vacation. She is a family girl at heart and adores the family she has in her group home, but longs for the stability that adoption would bring. She is beautiful inside and out and there is something very special about her. She loves to pray for her friends when they are sad or hurt. She likes to take care of the other children and particularly makes a point to include the kids who are less physically able than she is. She is very bright and has a deep desire to learn. She is an old soul and while she definitely has a silly, goofy side, she enjoys the company of adults. She longs to be adopted and asks frequently if a Mommy and Daddy are coming.

“Why hasn’t anyone chosen her? Don’t they know how amazing she is? Can’t they see how much joy she would bring to their family? Can’t they see that she is so much more than her cerebral palsy? That she is smart, she loves to laugh, she is gentle, and loves going to church. Her cerebral palsy doesn’t define her” – Lily’s foster mother
