Down syndrome

Felicity is a curious little girl with bright eyes, who seemed totally comfortable navigating a room full of strangers when our staff visited her orphanage. She’s a very social little girl, who loves to be playing with other kids. She has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. A natural little leader, she can become loud trying to get the other children’s attention and get them to follow her! Her favorite activity is to go outside and play on the slides and swings. The doctor who traveled with our staff felt she follows directions well and is creative in finding solutions. Sometimes she will imitate people on TV, and she enjoys dancing when her caregiver plays piano. She’s a very sweet girl, who will help her nannies move chairs, and give up her seat for other kids. When she sees a caregiver sit down to rest, she will even go give them a backrub! She knows to get a rag and clean up spills without being asked. Her motor skills are good; she can run, jump, and go up and down stairs. Her language is delayed, currently she can just say “Ma” and babble, but she has very good understanding of what is said to her. She is potty trained during the day and wears a diaper at night.

When she was nine months old, she could turn her head to locate the direction of music and other sounds. She was able to sit independently in a chair at one year of age. Her caregivers describe her as introverted and she enjoys quietly watching her caregivers and peers. Her language skills, growth, and cognitive development are behind in comparison to peers of her same age. When her caregiver talks to her, she smiles sweetly and makes “ah ah” sounds! An update from 2014 indicates that her receptive and expressive language skills are limited to which she cannot understand words spoken to her and does not respond to verbal requests. She gets along with other children, though she seldom interacts with them. She is able to roll over and sit up by herself, and grab objects for a short period of time. She is in good health and we have a video on file of her playing and smiling!

A $4000 grant may be available to families from the current agency.

Since being placed with a foster family, she has made progress in her language, physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Hanna is not a big talker, but she understands and responds to her teacher. She can use the bathroom, get dressed/undressed on her own, throw and chase a ball. Hanna likes to care for other children and comfort them when they are sad. Could this sweet girl be your daughter?

Update:Hanna-update (2)

5 year old Hanna is an absolute doll! Agency staff were blessed to meet her in China in September of 2015. She is in foster care in the orphanage village on the orphanage grounds. She attends school in the orphanage, where she is in her 2nd year of kindergarten. She likes to play with toys and help put chairs away at school. She is friends with all of the kids in her class. She loves sweet dim sum, crackers, and cakes. Hanna likes playing with the sports equipment, especially balls. She is toilet trained.

Hanna was sent to the orphanage in 2014. She had a scar on her neck when she came- the orphanage is not sure what it was from. She is super cute, smiley, flexible, and very friendly! She laughed happily and is always excited to see new people. She offers toys to new friends and is good with sharing. She is not at all aggressive. She only makes noises and mimics. She has a couple of simple words, but is not totally clear. Hanna loves to dance and has good gross motor skills. She has good fine motor skills as well and can string beads. She is independent with her care- she can dress and undress herself and feed herself using a spoon and a cup. Hanna is high functioning for a child with down syndrome. She is a very happy and loving girl who will bless some lucky family so much!

A $3000 grant is available from the agency that currently has her file, to help Hanna get adopted.

Temple (2) Temple (1)Girl, born April 2012
PRC
Down syndrome

Temple is a precious little girl who is 3 years old. She has Down syndrome, with excellent gross and fine motor skills. Temple is not a good eater, and they are working with her to improve her nutrition. In her file, there is a description that may well be a bad translation, but the agency loves it. Under “Personality”, it say Temple is “relentless”. Perhaps, strong-willed is what they meant. But a relentless, adorable little girl will do well in life, for sure! Temple is not fond of being awakened to eat, but is typically a very happy little one. She loves to be held and hugged, Temple is a delightful little girl who will bring such happiness to your family!

CarlyGirl, born November 2012
PRC
Down syndrome

Carly is a chubby little girl, who was quite relaxed and content when our staff visited her orphanage. She seemed perfectly happy on her nanny’s lap, and reached with curiosity for the things handed to her. She has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. An extroverted little girl, she’s not afraid of strangers, and loves to be held, but can also entertain herself playing in her crib. She isn’t speaking yet, but will say “ah” to communicate, and understands simple directions. When she sees other children eating, she’ll reach for her caregiver like she’s asking for food too. She can roll over, sit and crawl, and though our staff saw she can bear weight, she’s not motivated to stand or walk yet. She can feed herself finger foods and hold her bottle to drink, and cooperate when getting dressed. She loves colorful balls, and dancing along with music! We have many photos and videos of this cute little one!

There is a $4000 Child Grant that may be available to families through the agency.

SpringGirl, born September 2012
PRC
Down syndrome, post-op CHD

Spring is just adorable! She came into care when she was 7 months old (approximately), and was found to have Down syndrome as well as a congenital heart defect. She had surgery in 2013 to correct the TOF/ASD (Tetrology of Fallot / atrial septal defect) and recovered well. Spring is a very quiet, very sweet little one who really needs a caring, loving family, who will provide her the therapy she requires. Spring has the typical delays seen in little ones with Down syndrome, and being confined to her stroller/walker is not helping her. Spring’s left ear folds down a bit, but there is no known hearing issue involved. They have noted in her file that Spring’s favorite activity is “being held” (how sweet is that!?). This little one is ready for a family.
