Faith Ann

Faith RKGirl, born 2012
PRC
Down syndrome, Congenital heart disease, Esotropia

Listed May 4, 2016

Faith was born in March 2012 and was found abandoned shortly after. She has been diagnosed with Esotropia (misalignment) of both eyes, Down syndrome and Congenital Heart Disease (PDA). Doctors in her area have said that her heart issue may self-heal and surgery wasn’t recommended.

Faith’s adoption file was completed in November 2015 when she was 3.5 years old. At that time she was participating in a program and was close to her teacher. She was said to be a popular child who was curious, lovely and friendly. Staff say she often holds hands with friends and foster siblings on the way to and from school. If she sees a child with a runny nose she will get a tissue and help them wipe it. Caretakers say she’s, “so cute and sensible.”

Faith is described as an active and energetic child who enjoys playing with peers and listens well to her caretakers. She can wash her hands independently, undress herself and go up and down stairs. She is fond of listening to music and has a ready smile.

A US Cardiologist has said that her medical situation would likely be quite manageable but whether or not she would need an operation to fix the PDA would depend on her symptoms and a repeat echocardiogram.

Temple

Down syndrome

Temple is a precious little girl who is 3 years old. She has Down syndrome, with excellent gross and fine motor skills. Temple is not a good eater, and they are working with her to improve her nutrition. In her file, there is a description that may well be a bad translation, but the agency loves it. Under “Personality”, it say Temple is “relentless”. Perhaps, strong-willed is what they meant. But a relentless, adorable little girl will do well in life, for sure! Temple is not fond of being awakened to eat, but is typically a very happy little one. She loves to be held and hugged, Temple is a delightful little girl who will bring such happiness to your family!

At that time, she could hold her head up and put her hands in front of her eyes to look and play. By one year of age, she could babble, laugh when playing with others, sit with support, roll over, and move toys from one hand to the other. At two, she could sit independently, crawl, and turn the pages of books. She also became very attached to her caregiver. By three, she could stand while holding onto something and put objects into a cup and take them out. Carlie is currently attending a school inside her orphanage. She gets along well with the other children, but is quiet and uses words like aunt and teacher, but not clearly. As of fall, she was not yet potty trained. When Carlie meets new people, she will wave her hands and blow them a kiss- a little charmer! When others are showing her attention, she will smile and approach them on her own. She is a well-behaved little girl.

The agency which currently has Sheena’s file has a $5,000 grant available for her adoption, as well. Other agency grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances.

Sheena

Girl, born 2012
PRC
Down syndrome, congenital heart defect (ASD, VSD); Ametropia

Sheena is the sweetest four-year-old girl around! Agency staff have met her and said that she is very smart and pleasant. Sheena is also a favorite of her caretakers, giving her a lot of extra attention and love.

She was sitting independently between 9-11 months of age and was crawling by one. She started walking and speaking, though unclear, at age two. By three, she was a confident walker and could use a cup to drink. She’s a good eater and is not picky about food. Congee and meat are her favorites. She can go to toilet on her own and has few accidents. She does need a diaper at night. Sheena can also dress herself and put on her own shoes. When she was little, she got burned by hot water so she is still afraid of taking a bath.

In January of 2016, Sheena started receiving schooling inside the orphanage. The teachers quickly learned that she liked the toy numbers. They taught her how to string the toy numbers. After three months, Sheena made big progress in her language, gross motor, and social skills. She has learned words like teacher, ayi, chair, mine, etc. When talking with her, she responds with sounds like “en, oh, hao”. She likes to listen to music and will follow the beat by clapping her hands. She also tries to sing to the music. Sheena can walk upstairs and downstairs by herself and can now run faster. When she sees other kids fall down, she will walk over to help the child get up. If other kids get hurt, she will go over and blow on it to soothe the pain. In September of 2016, Sheena showed good progress with her cognition. She focuses in class to learn with other kids. Sheena likes being active and being held. She enjoys imitating, playing with toy cars, and playing hide and seek.

The agency which currently has Sheena’s file has a $5,000 grant available for her adoption, as well. Other agency grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances.

Down syndrome, congenital heart defect

Eden is an adorable little four-year-old girl! She was born with down syndrome and congenital heart defects – VSD, double outlet of RV, and pulmonary stenosis. Eden is described by her caretakers as active, sweet, and very pretty. She loves music with a quick rhythm and toys that make sounds. She also enjoys snuggling with her caretakers and often called out mama when she needed something. Her file is outdated, but at the age of two, Eden was walking, needed reminders to go to the bathroom, was holding her own food, and was using single words. She loves to giggle when she is playing and when she is happy. Eden’s agency has received a written update, new pictures, and precious new videos!

Meadow

Girl, born 2014
PRC
Down syndrome, Congenital heart defect

Meadow is a beautiful girl who was found as a newborn and was moved into a foster family in May of 2016. She adapted to her foster family quickly and has a good routine schedule, including a daily nap. Meadow has a good appetite and is not a picky eater. She loves the snacks her foster mother gives her between meals. Meadow takes a bath twice a day in the summer and once in the winter, generally before going to bed. She is currently in diapers. Meadow was born with down syndrome and heart defects (ASD, VSD, and PDA). In November of 2015, she underwent surgery to repair her VSD and ASD and had a PDA ligation with tricuspid valvuloplasty. Her file mentioned her receiving a temporary pacemaker. In September of 2016, she had a brain MRI- there were no abnormal findings, but they did note that she had bilateral mastoiditis. Also at that time, she had genetic testing done and it was found that Meadow had alpha thalassemia (meaning she is just a carrier). A couple days later she had a mass on her neck looked at and nothing abnormal was found.

Meadow is not speaking yet, but she can turn her head when her name is called. She likes playing with adults and will often babble happily when playing alone. Meadow can sit and turn over on her own. She uses gestures to communicate- such as purposely putting her foot on her foster mother while lying on the bed or tugging at her clothes or wrist when she sees people eating. Meadow enjoys playing with dolls and giggling. A family will be blessed to have this little angel as a part of their family!

The agency has videos and additional photos available. There is a $5,000 agency grant for Meadow’s adoption with the current agency. Other agency grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances.

Hopefully, we will know more very soon. We do know Annie is a spunky, active little girl who enjoys playing. Listed: April 2017

Rebecca has a diagnosis of Down syndrome, and has some cognitive delays. She has less muscle tone and strength than other children her age. She can walk well, but is a little wobbly at times. The physical therapist monitors her growth and works with her on exercises and activities to help strength her muscles and improve coordination.

We see improvements every day. Rebecca has transitioned from the baby home to the toddler home. She likes being one of the ‘big kids’ and can feed herself.

Rebecca has an infectious smile and the Tías love asking her for a hug because she will run and jump in their arms for a full body hug! She has a favorite doll with rosy cheeks that she takes with her everywhere, and shows her to everyone. Like any toddler, Rebecca dislikes broccoli. Unlike many toddlers, she does not like to be tickled, and gets angry if anyone tries to make her smile!

Harley’s paperwork states that she is 3 years old, but the doctors think she may be younger than that. Regardless of her age, Harley is a little sweetie who is squishy and huggable. Her caregiver says she likes to be held and loves snacks and bananas.

She is a smiley easy going little thing who giggles often. She is afraid of loud noises. She is saying a few words such as “mama”, she also babbles and imitates noises.

Harley has Down syndrome. She sits and rolls over by herself. When the agency team met her in April she was just starting to transition from her belly to a sitting position.

Harley’s caregiver feels she is advanced and is learning things quickly. Little Harley sat and played with toys for quite a while when we were with her. She was content by herself, but my, how her little eyes lit up when we would sit down to play with her or engage her in any way!

Down syndrome

Listed: Dec 2016

Emery is well adapted to her daily routine in the orphanage. She eats three meals a day but doesn’t have a big appetite and doesn’t care for snacks or desserts. The orphanage staff make efforts to enrich her days to help her development by watching TV, listening to music, playing with toys and taking her out for outdoor activities.

Her motion development is slightly delayed compared to other children but staff feel this is due to her being in orphanage life and not with a family. They say her opportunities are more limited there although she does participate in rehabilitation training in the institute. At the time of her report she was 3.5 years old and could sit independently, hold toys to play and walk holding the wall. She was described as being extroverted, well liked and having a ready smile. Emory could take off her socks and pants and was in good physical condition, but wasn’t yet speaking. Orphanage staff hope she will be adopted by a family who can educate her and help her grow up to be a happy girl.
