Reece's Rainbow is dedicated to rescuing orphans abroad with Down syndrome. The ugly truth of the matter is that once these children reach a certain age, especially growing up in institutional/orphanage settings, they get to a point where they are no longer likely to be adopted.
Effective September 1, 2011, all older children will be able to carry their grants as they grow (until they turn 10), instead of being combined in a general older child fund.
You are also invited to send a check (no Paypal fees) to Reece's Rainbow, PO Box 4024, Gaithersburg, MD 20885
"Your gift will serve ALL of the children, as 10% of each waiting child donation is shared with our Voice of Hope fund as well!

SINGLE MOMS WELCOME!
HELP! I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TRANSFERRED!
Kennedy is a very sociable girl and an active player. She is strong and likes all kinds of sports activities provided to children by the orphanage. Also she is musical. Though she doesn't talk yet she totally understands what the others say to her. She has good everyday skills (can put on and take off her clothes, can wash her hands and face, is toilet trained and uses it when she needs it, she eats by herself). Kennedy will really benefit from having a loving family to encourage her, provide her with the therapies she needs, and help her be all she can be! There is no place for her in her country.

Girl, Born July 2003
Miss Masha is a very special and blessed 8 year old girl. Not only does she have Down syndrome and a personality that lights up a room, she won over the hearts of the ABC News journalists who visited with her in May 2011 when filiming their story about Reece's Rainbow and the needs of orphans with Down syndrome in Eastern Europe. They followed one of our adoptive families on their journey to Mia, but met Masha and so many others hidden away in mental institutions. Masha stood out, made herself known, and said " I AM HERE MAMA, DO YOU SEE ME?".
Now her 15 second miracle chance on ABC World News will be what saves her life!
You can watch the story with Diane Sawyer from Dec 26, 2011 at
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/utah-family-saves-ukraine-girl-15236476
Reece's Rainbow has been given special permission by her orphanage director to seek an adoptive family for her. She is HEALTHY, with no medical complications. She is very intelligent, independent in most activities, active, friendly, social, affectionate, and helpful. We have MANY photos of her and look forward to sharing those with you.
Because Masha is in an institution, interested families should be home study approved prior to commitment. Previous adoptive and/or Down syndrome experience preferred. Large families and older parents welcome, married couples only, travel required. Any questions can be directed to andrea@reecesrainbow.org
We are so grateful to Abbie Boudreau and Sarah Netter for their 10 month commitment to this story, and even more so now for their new-found life-long commitment to serving orphans with special needs abroad. What a voice they have given to Masha and so many others through their efforts!

Girl, born May 2005
Diagnosis: Down syndrome
Poor, sad little Mabel — she's been chewing on her sleeves and hands for self-soothing. She's such a tiny little bird — please help her find a family so she can reach her full potential!
MABEL can stand for “Mothers Always Bring Extra Love," and if ever a child needed extra love, it is this precious girl. She has no one to love on her- so she’s chewing on her hands and sleeves. Her little hands look raw. What a horrible way to have to comfort yourself- to just be a darling baby and no one love on you because you happen to have an extra chromosome. She’s tiny, no bigger than a 3 year old. Her cheeks are raw, from her having her wet hands against them, and the cool air of winter hitting them. Somewhere, this child has a mom that will bring “extra love” for this precious child of God with an “extra chromosome”. Mama? Do you see me?
Additional pictures available.
Interested families should be homestudy approved prior to commitment.

She is extroverted and can express her feelings very well. When she is happy she will greet you warmly and embrace you enthusiastically; if she thinks that she was treated wrongly she will make sharp sound and cry loudly to blow off her discontent. She has made great physical progress and can go up and down stairs and loves to dance around!

Tania is a beautiful 9-year-old girl with Down syndrome. Born August 2002.
She is said to be independant and active, and she especially loves to swing. She is shy with other children, and seeks attention from adults, cuddling up when hugs and affection are available.
From her medical records: Down syndrome, esotropia, flatfoot, secondary cardiomyopathy, communicating hydrocephalus sub compensating. (girl)
From the Happy Child Foundation: The eight-year-old Tania from a group of younger children never gets lost among the other boys and girls since she is such a restless and fidgety child. The small mischievous girl never has trouble attracting one’s attention – she pulls your skirt or slightly bites your hand. The educators never see her having a pity-party because the child is always cheerful and full of energy despite her difficult life. She is constantly on the move, and even a photo camera lens cannot catch her in focus.

Ekaterina deserves a better life than this
Our children with special needs simply do not recieve the level of care they should in this region, and really need help fundraising. It will not be possible to get additional medical info about these children until your dossier is registered. Families adopting in this region must have an open heart and a leap of faith to save these children!
Look at how healthy she was as a baby, now she is a shell, tiny, and hidden away
Ekaterina has brown hair, blue eyes, and is described as inquisitive and active. She has already been transferred to the institution. Families should be home study approved prior to commitment.

Svetlana is SO pretty, and blessed to have had surgery to correct heart condition. She has such beautiful blue eyes, and a calm, sweet personality. Love her pixie haircut.
From her medical records: The child is in a very good general condition. Elementary thinking processes are observed. She can't speak but pronounces sounds and combinations of sounds: ba-ba, etc. that are completely random. She knows her name and reacts when called. She carries out elementary orders. She is not oriented for place and time. Her attention is unstable, her memory is mechanic.
In emotional aspect the child is calm, merry and playful. She enjoys the attention that she is paid and actively seeks it. She easily enters into interaction with the children and the adults in the orphanage. She has friends among the children and prefers to play with them. She reacts actively in musical classes – makes rhythmical movements, but almost doesn't play with toys and prefers to put them in her mouth or toss them.
The child walks independently and carries out the orders of the physical therapist – crouches, stands up. She already eats by herself. She doesn't signal about her physiological needs and is taken care of entirely by the personnel of the orphanage.
The child is being taught to put her clothes on and take them off on her own. The training for gaining life skills continues.
Single moms and large families welcome, easy travel!

Girl, Born 2003
In 2007, Anjelica was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and ventricular septal defect. She also had TB in the same year. She was also as born with Down syndrome.
Anjelica is undernourished and is continually provided with Pediasure milk twice a day to supplement her food intake and improve her weight. She measures 85 centimeters in height and weighs 9.2 kilograms. Due to her congenital heart disease-ventricular septal defect, Anjelica takes lanoxin, aldactone, and furosemide.
At her age she can sit, stand alone for several minutes and make 3 to 5 steps without assistance. She can walk sideways holding on to the rails but most of the time she prefers to crawl than walk. She can hold objects and make actions like clapping, waving good-bye, and do flying kisses to familiar persons. She knows her name and understands simple instructions. She can also feed herself with snacks and drinks in a training cup without assistance. She can say bi-syllable words and uses body language or gestures to communicate what she wants. She easily cries if she does not get what she wants but is easily pacified. She is not yet toilet trained and needs assistance from her caregivers.
Anjelica enjoys and dances to music. She also loves playing with toys and participates in the activities provided by her caregivers. She is also comfortable even with strangers. Anjelica was referred to the Philippine Heart Center and is still under observation by her pediatric-cardiologist.
