Girl, born November 1996
Diagnosis: Down syndrome
Miss Bernadette, what a beautiful smile you have! Hoping your Mama sees this picture and comes to bring you home — please don't wait! Bernadette's age doesn't leave her much time to find her family. She can only be adopted at all if she finds a family before November! Her chance at any life outside these four walls will be over if we can't find a family for her.
She’s a lovely little girl in appearance. Despite being 15, she looks about 8 years old, and a petite 8 at that. She is a sweet little girl with plenty of energy. She likes what most 8 year olds would like- dolls, playing with toys, watching cartoons.
Lots more photos, she is SO friendly and was so excited to have her photo taken
Interested families should be homestudy approved prior to commitment.

Down syndrome
Clarice's pictures are so fun to see – she seems to be all sunshine and motion! She has such an amazing grin!
Clarice is so tiny; these pictures were taken recently, at age 12, and compare her height to the chair behind her to see how petite she is. She is more the size of a 4 year old than her actual 12.5 years.
She has the personality of an impetuous toddler- very high energy and eager to try everything life has to offer. She too needs a family, and the sooner the better. The possibilities for a child to thrive when they reach a family are endless. She will definitely need medical attention, as you can tell from just seeing her teeth, and lots of patient instruction and guidance.
Interested families should be homestudy approved prior to commitment.
Girl, Born December 2001
From her medical records: Down syndrome, significant cognitive delay (coupled with FAS), FLATFOOT, PARTIAL ATROPHY OF OPTIC NERVES, ESOTROPIA, SECONDARY CARDIOMYOPATHY (PARTIALLY SEEN)
What I'd give to see a lighted smile on Katrina's face. She doesn't realize it, but now that she has a profile here on Reece's Rainbow, she has a CHANCE…a chance for a new life, a family of her own, to get out of these four walls and to have something to smile about.
Katrina and Tania can be adopted together if a family is approved and interested. 10 day wait often waived here. Married couples only, larger families welcome, travel required.

This blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty needs a loving family to thrive in! Natalija is described as active and friendly. She doesn't like to be told "no" or be reprimanded, and cries as a result (aaahh, girls!). Natalija likes to play games with her peers, even if she doesn't quite understand the rules. She is friendly and responsive, and is very loving towards her caregivers and friends. she is very good at playing independently and focusing on the task in front of her. She is stubborn sometimes, but I have found that this is a common trait of children with Down syndrome! Natalija does have a few words and basic self-service skills. She can dress and undress without help, and also eats and drinks unassisted.

Little Emilija is just beautiful! She has light blue eyes and dark blond hair. Emilija's receptive language is good. She understands what adults say to her, but she can not speak on her own yet. The doctor recommends continued speech and physical therapy, even gymnastics and music therapy! Emilija does have an older sister, but she is not available for adoption.

ABIhkhc–Down Syndrome, 15 years old, needs immediate family!!
I know in my heart that if anyone can help this beautiful 15 year old girl with Down syndrome find a family, it is the advocates at Reece's Rainbow! If she is not adopted by July of 2012, she will no longer be eligible for adoption AT ALL. We need an experienced family with a completed or near complete home study, who has adopted older children with special needs internationally before.
Present Carer: Harmony is receiving secondary education at a middle school and has been residing at the school’s boarding section since 2002.
Present Development: Although Hamony is a girl with Down Syndrome and a number of medical problems, her medical issues had been subsided after receiving treatments and operations. Due to left severe hearing loss, right profound hearing loss, moderate hyperopia, astigmatism and nystagmus, Harmony has to wear hearing aids and spectacles in school. However, she does not put them on in the dorm and yet can do very well. She understands her worker’s instructions well and has no communication problems with her housemates. Harmony's behavior and emotions are stable. She has acquired self care skills and managed to bathe independently, wash her hair, hang up and fold her clothes neatly. She also knows how to seek help from the social worker when her toys are seized or is pinched by other housemates. Her appetite is good. She eats well and does not spend a lot of time in eating.
Harmony loves learning and is attentive in class. She completes her homework voluntarily. She understands and recognizes different parts of the body. She also recognizes the name tag of her classmates and calls out their names. At present, she learns Chinese language by using reading cards and can pronounce two syllables. She is described as patient, helpful and playful. She loves music and plays the hand bell well. She usually imitates the behaviors of others, manages to string a bead and slides with a pair of roller blades. She can stay focused when playing with puzzles, play-dough and drawing with a pen. She also enjoys playing with younger children, such as chasing and hitting each other and dancing together. Being a helper of the social worker, she stops a classmate from hitting the other and prevents a social worker from falling down. She used to be very exciting towards peoples and was stubborn. When her want was declined, she threw a temper. Fortunately, she can control her emotions and follow instructions after being explained. When she has home leave at a social worker’s home during weekends, she follows the rules well and gets along well with the family members of the social worker.

Update Fall 2011:
Margit is a bright, capable 10 year old. She can be very focused when the activity interests her. She colors inside the lines, tries to imitate letters of her name and has a quick and adorable smile. She’s very girlie and loved the purse I brought her. It had many pockets and she loved opening and closing the purse and putting small things into the compartments. She is sturdy and healthy. She is nicely proportionate weight/height. She also has some control issues. She delighted in “breaking the rules” when the social worker left the room. She will need structure and firm rules, but she has so much potential. She will be a wonderful daughter for the right family.

Trina is a beautiful 10 year old girl in need of her forever family. She is active and healthy, but does have some strabismus. Correcting her vision would be such a blessing for her!
Families considering our older, institutionalized children should be home study approved prior to commitment.

Veronika is another Baltic beauty, with blue eyes and blonde hair. She is described as calm and well-behaved. She willingly performs directions from adults, and waits for encouragement and praise for doing a good job. Veronika is very observant…she keeps a close watch on adult's speech and action, understands directions with the help if gestures/signs, tries to imitate adult behaviors, and reacts very positively to praise. She doesn't like to be reprimanded. Veronika gladly engages in contact with a known adult, is cautious in contact with strangers, can cooperate with peers, and can play common games. Nevertheless, she plays very well on her own as well. She is able to act consistently and determinedly when she has a good routine (this is another common thread for children with Down syndrome). She has difficulties "switching gears" quickly. She can analyze and compare in a simple level, but cannot separate colors and sizes yet. She has a small vocabulary, is familiar with the parts of the body, eats independently, drinks from a cup, observes manners at the table, dresses and undresses alone, and brushes her teeth without assistance. Sounds like the perfect child to me!

Amelia was born with a Congenital cardiac malformation – Fallot’s tetralogy. Surgery was performed in 2005 and her heart condition was completely corrected. Amelia is currently living in a mental institution. She is delayed in all aspects of her development but does receive therapy. She also participates in the granny/grandchild program at the institution. She walks with support. Her speech is developing. She is making sounds and can say “no” and attempts to say the word for granny. She responds to her name, follows basic directions, and plays with toys. She drinks from a cup and eats independently. She enjoys affection, responds well to being cuddled, and is a very happy child.
