The agency’s team visited Levron for the third time in April. We glanced at this paperwork then looked a little closer. It was his 3rd birthday! So we sang, and Levron got 2 packages of fruit snacks rather than the standard 1 package per child.

My favorite memory of Levron from the April trip is how much he loved looking at himself in the mirror! He looked and giggled and kissed himself then looked at himself again. It was just too adorable! Another thing that brought peals of laughter from him was playing peek-a-boo! And his laugh is so cute! We couldn’t help laughing with him!

Levron was sooooo close to walking when we met him! He stacked cups for us and really loved looking at books. He babbles but isn’t saying words yet.

Nicholas

Nicholas June 2016NicholasBoy, born May 2011

Down syndrome

Nicholas was born in May of 2011.   His physical development is on target.   He is able to sit up, stand and is able to walk holding onto furniture.   He is very active and likes to play with toys and other children.  Nicholas is also very observant; when someone is playing with other kids of his group, he watches them very attentively as if wanting to take part in it.  He has been seen playing with one of the other boys in his group, they giggle and talk in their own little language, as if they know exactly what the other is saying.  In general, Nicholas is a serious child, but if you make him smile he smiles.  He currently eats and sleeps well.

Update February 2014:  Nicholas is an active and very sweet boy. He likes to run around and gladly plays with toys and other children. He eats and sleeps well. Though non-verbal at this time, Nicholas is described as a very responsive child who understands everything that is said to him and follows instructions. His nannies adore him.

Nicholas is special friends with another little boy in his group; they giggle and communicate in their own private language, as if they know exactly what the other is saying.

Update June 2016: Nicholas was transferred to a different orphanage where he now shows a lot of aggression.  He walks and eats independently, is potty-trained, and understands what is said to him.Nicholas continues to be non-verbal.

Nicholas would thrive in a loving family.   Photos, videos and additional reports are available upon request from the agency.

Branden L41

Boy, born summer 2012

Down syndrome, speech delay

Branden has bluish-green eyes and light brown hair. He is sunny, inquisitive and very active boy, who likes attention and communication. Branden was placed in an out-of-family care institution (from foster care) at the age of 3 years and 5 months. The adaptation period in the orphanage was successful, the boy was friendly and cute, the attention span was sustainable, physical development corresponded the age, language development was delayed.

Branden’s overall development progresses well, although the development of language is without change, attention span is less sustainable, he is more careless. General movements are free, the boy freely moves, runs, climbs up and down the stairs. Branden is very active and inquisitive. He shows interest in the surrounding area and events, as well as activities of adults and other children. He is friendly and builds contact gladly also with less known people. The boy is interested in toys, but often the interest is unstable, he plays a little bit and then looks for another toy. Needs to be motivated to continue and finish the started play. The boy tends to be inattentive, has unstable attention, wants to rush everything. Language development lags behind age norms and progress is very minimal. The boy responds to his name, he comprehends and reacts adequately on daily instructions. Uses few words in short form in his active speech, but in most occasions uses inarticulate exclamation sounds, vocabulary has not progressed. Passive (receptive) vocabulary is wider. Keenly observes and leafs through picture books, but he cannot show the asked object or name it himself. Self-skills well trained, independent eating and drinking, knows his cot, is able to dress himself partially, can undress, is not yet able to fasten clothes with buttons or zips, goes to toilet after reminder, sometimes goes independently.

Branden does have older siblings, but they have been legally separated by the courts.

Freddie

Boy, born 2012
PRC
Down syndrome

Freddie was abandoned at 7 months old. He is diagnosed with Down Syndrome and funnel chest. Freddie’s medical information is 3 years old, but we do have some recent information from his orphanage. While we are working to get an updated medical for him, the recent report, photos, and videos can give a good picture of Freddie’s development. Neither the medical or report indicate any significant delays with his physical development.

Freddie’s videos show him walking steadily, kicking a ball, and playing with blocks, indicating that his gross and fine motor skills appear to be on target. Freddie reportedly can understand simple language and is seen following directions in his videos, though we are not sure if Freddie is able to speak. Freddie attends school in the orphanage, but there is no language training available which inhibits his ability to learn to speak. His intelligence is slightly delayed compared to his peers, but he could potentially make progress with the proper services and interventions.

Freddie is said to be outgoing, active, and loving. The orphanage reports that he can make new friends easily and he is seen playing with other children in his videos. Freddie has a sweet smile and pleasant demeanor. He has some self-care ability; he reportedly can do simple tasks alone, but needs assistance with other tasks such as taking a shower. The orphanage reports that Freddie can have bowel and bladder control, but he does not at this time.

Freddie needs the love and support of a family to help him thrive. Could Freddie find a home with your family?

Down syndrome and strabismus

This precious peanut is Tadd! Tadd has Down syndrome and he may need glasses once home due to having strabismus or a lazy eye. He cannot talk, but he can makes sounds. He is very happy when listening to and dancing to music. He understands the caretaker’s words, such as “good boy” and “so cute” and he can smile at the caretaker when hearing such words. Tadd has a ready smile and is an energetic and active baby. He wants to be the first to eat- if the caretaker feeds others first, he will cry loudly. Tadd likes to imitate and will sometimes imitate a singing and dancing show on TV. He cannot walk independently yet, but he can walk around his a walker. He likes to play with the other children and with all kinds of toys. Sometimes he will sit quietly and watch the caretaker, but his favorite thing to do is to play peek-a-boo with the caretakers. His caretakers all like him very much!

5/18/2015 update: Tadd cannot talk yet. He is a happy child. When the nanny takes him for a bath or plays with him, he smiles a lot. Tadd can stand up by holding the crib rail. He can crawl to catch toys. He can move around in the walker. When eating, Tadd will move to the nanny for food in a walker.

Down syndrome, congenital heart defect (PDA and PFO)

Willy has decided…he will stop sucking his thumb long enough to say he is tired of orphanage life. He wants a family! Willy is 3 years old, and has been at the orphanage since he was a baby. He was found to have Down syndrome, as well as a CHD (PFO/PDA) which has not required treatment. We are waiting for verification of that. Willy has the expected delays associated with Down syndrome, and will certainly benefit from early intervention with therapies.

There is an agency grant of $2,000 toward his adoption fees. Willy is serious about this…he wants to come home!

Fall in love with snuggly little Derrick. Derrick is 3 years old and was abandoned at a baby safe haven when he was three months old; shortly after he was diagnosed with CHD and Down’s Syndrome. Derrick is a charming little baby who can roll over on his own. He loves to interact with his caregivers and shake toys that rattle. Derrick’s caregivers tell us that he is good at following people with his eyes and locating sounds around the room. He is an enthusiastic eater and sleeps well. Derrick needs a family who will cherish him and advocate for him as he grows and makes his way in the world. Could Derrick be the son your family has been waiting for?

Link is almost 3 now! He has Down syndrome. He has great eye contact and can reach for things. Link likes to look at the colorful pictures and colorful toys. He can change from prone to supine position, and can keep his arms straight for a while, and can grasp toys for a while. He has good living habits. Link is lovely and close to nurturer mom. Link can raise his head if lying on his abdomen, can search for sound source, can track moving toys. He likes music, eating, plush toys and balls. From agency staff who met and interacted with Lincoln in September- “He is so sweet! He kept looking into my eyes and just melted my heart!”
