Boy, born July 2008
Gray eyes
Arnold NEEDS a family — he is scheduled for transfer to the institution when he turns 4 in July 2012.
Arnold is a lovable brown-eyed child of a sunny disposition and with an irrepressible interest in the world. At the children’s home where he’s been living since his birth Arnold has learned a great deal of things: walk and run, hold a spoon, buckle up his boots, do puzzles, construct pyramids, drive a toy-car… However, recently, a special thing about him is how eagerly he gets in contact with people around (teachers, nurses, children): by means of few words, clear gestures, but chiefly, due to his utmost desire to communicate. He easily follows the commands of adults, adequately reacts to their speech, and seems desperately wanting to be addressed, talked to.
Arnold feels extremely happy when he can come up with some idea. It often happens during a game-time: the boy invents various activities with toys, shows animals changing his voice and mimics (a tiger being his favorite), makes jokes, dances using steps learned before.
Arnold is quite agreeable to proposals and yield to a gentle treatment. He displays a personal affection to a volunteer who comes to Home to see him, takes him for a walk and to the church. The boy adapts comfortably to a new environment and offers his friendliness, curiosity and initiative, as it was last spring when he attended a sensory and musical course at a specialized pedagogic center. He was called not only a smart student, but also a good mixer for his willingness to share toys with other children and be helpful (bring a thing someone needs, etc.). According to his teachers, Arnold reveals a good ability to learn. On the whole, getting new knowledge, learning words, imitating adults’ behaviors, applying new skills is what the child is craving for at the moment. DS doesn’t prevent him from being a personality: the boy develops mentally and emotionally, and richly gives warmth and happiness to people next to him.

Abbott understands how to properly play with the different kind of toys and loves to play. He is not speaking yet but he is easily understood. Abbott is an active child. He likes to run, walk and see new places.
Recently he has been transferred to an institution and nobody knows how he is now.

Date of Birth: July 2008
Gender: Male
Eyes: Gray
Hair: blonde
Nature: Quiet, medically healthy (besides DS)
From missionaries who know him: "The boy has very tender, affectionate, cheerful and forgiving personality. He does not hesitate approaching to people and looks with interest at what they are doing and truly tries to emulate. He is doing it in such a cute way that these attempts turn out to be very funny to watch! Ilya does not speak yet but he is showing some progress in speaking.
The whole world is like a puzzle to him. When he hears a sound whether by tram or car – it is the whole event in his life. He stops and looks to the side, where sound occurs. When he is given toys he can play alone and will quietly deal with himself, allowing the rest to others.
The child needs tactile sensations very much. He loves to cuddle and be cuddled. He is not doing it in a demanding, but gently and neat way. He is independent and if falls he not waiting for help from an adult. He's just not accustomed to it and is not expecting that it someone might be interested in him. He found his simple way for tactile sensations: he is touching his palm with something soft.
Ilya responds quickly to someone’s smile with a soft laughter. He is not potty trained yet but in a family will pick it up quickly. He is very friendly with the kids but at the same time he can stand up for himself; if someone takes away a toy from him, Ilya will follow the offender, trying to get it back. Ilya loves to eat. If we go for a walk, everyone pays attention to his cheeks, cute little hamster! Ilya does not like to run or play sporty games, he prefers quiet games with toys."

Because Teagan has Down syndrome, his physical development, intelligence and mental development developed slowly and was delayed compared to kids of similar age obviously, especially motion and flexibility of his limbs were slightly poorer. In recent years, with the efforts of this institute and foster parents, he can stand by holding onto objects, walk slowly. Now according to his growth foster parents offered him speech rehabilitative and limb training every day.
Teagan is shy, has a ready smile, likes to listen to music very much. When music plays all of his attention is attracted. When being glad he will swing his body following the musical rhythms. He likes to play toys very much, in particular toy cars are his favorite toys. We hope that he who is shy could become more and more active.

From a missionary who visited with him recently: SWEETY SWEETY SWEETY! Look at photos, what an amazing progress he made! For now little Artem is weak and less developed than kids at his age. But Artem has hidden ability to speak: he can repeat parts of words for long time and always includes into his speach some new sounds! This is a special kid that needs additional care and attention. He needs to become strong and gather all things that he has been taught by caregivers, but soon he will learn everything which is needed for his age and he will blossom.

From a missionary who visited with him in May 2010: " Jimmy is a delightful three year old with Down Syndrome. He is decribed as being quiet and playful. Jimmy doesn’t walk by himself yet, but he can get anywhere he needs by holding onto furniture and walls. He only says a few words, but understands so much more. Jimmy has a close relationship with his foster father. When foster dad hugs him and raises him up, he laughs happily. Jimmy also loves the outdoors. When foster mom takes him to pick up his older foster brother from school, he raises his head in his stroller, looks at the sky, and laughs heartily. He is curious about everything. "
Update in July 2011: Jimmy, now four years old, has been on the shared list for a long time … At the time his file was submitted, he didn’t even walk yet! Now he runs. When the file was prepared, he didn’t speak at all. He’s still a man of few words, but he does call those in his foster family by name … If his family doesn’t find him soon, they may move him out of his foster home to make room for another child who they feel may have a better chance at a family."

Percy is currently being cared for in an orphanage.
Health Condition: Percy has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. In February 2008, Percy was also diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He started to receive chemotherapy in March 2008 and responded well to the treatment. Remission was induced and Percy went through four more sessions of chemotherapy. He did not have any negative reactions or suffer any serious infection during the treatment procedure. The chemotherapy was successfully completed and a bone marrow examination was conducted. Results showed that the bone marrow continued inducing remission and the hematopoietic function was lively. Currently, Percy is in good condition and he is on a normal diet. His recent blood tests were normal. According to the studies all over the world and prior experiences, the cure rate of this type of AML is quite high. It is 100% at the hospital that Percy received treatment. However, monthly return-visit for follow-up is recommended. Currently, Percydoes not need any special care.
School Information: In May 2011, Percy started attending school. The schoolteacher reported that he adapted well and attempts to initiate talking to or playing with teachers or peers. He also actively offers his hand for other children or acts like a little helper for teachers. During the class activities, he is always too excited to refrain from continuity. He loves schooling and even carrying his book bag at home for fun. Percy tends to be sleepy when he wakes up in the morning. He appears to be absent minded and daydreams for periods of time. He always “observes” other children eating breakfast, brushing their teeth, getting dressed, and packing their book bags for school. He just eats breakfast slowly and looks at everyone and lets the time go by. However, when the caregiver tells him that he will be late for school, he will get ready very quickly. He likes playing with sand, blowing bubbles, taking MRT and bus, and watching TV.

Valenz is delayed in all areas of his development. However, he has shown marked improvements in recent months. He can sit unassisted and pull up to his knees in an attempt to stand. He shows a general interest in toys and will hold them, moving them from hand to hand. He makes spontaneous sounds and basic syllables. He watches the other children and has begun to smile when interacted with by staff and other children. He eats thick consistency foods from a spoon, but still requires someone to help feed him. He sucks his thumb when he sleeps.

Boy 1017G
Born 3/9/07 – Down Syndrome
C-VHIH
Since July 2007 he has been with a foster family. Per report written in 2010: At the age of 36-39 months he can walk alone quite steadily, and when he was walking he can stoop down to pick up the toy on ground and then go on walking. At present he can only call “baba”, but he can express his desire in body language, and if he wanted to drink water he will put his hand beside his mouth and look up. When he wanted to defecate or urinate he will make the sound and show actions familiar to his mother. Since he had learned to walk he had been very interested in outdoor activity, and he went to play games with other children in community every evening. He liked pulling his mother to go to the supermarket near to their home, and when they got there he will point at what he liked. He was very close to his father, and when his father came back home he will go out to welcome him.
At the age of 40-42 months he was very active, liked going out to play, even in cold days. He still did not speak much, besides father and mother he can say other words unclearly with the help of adults. He had to be fed, but he can drink water alone with cup with suction tubes. 43 months-present it has been too cold and he stays in house for most of the time. He likes to watch TV, and if there are children dancing in the program he will learn from them. He likes eating meat and is not choosy to food. He naps for 1-2 hours and has deep sleep. Sometimes he sleeps with adults, and sometimes he sleeps alone on his own bed. If he wants to go to toilet he will crouch and pull his trousers to tell adults sometimes. If adults remind him of going to toilet he will do so but they have to help him take off the trousers. He is very strong and seldom falls ill.

MORE PHOTOS available. Orion has Down syndrome and a patent foramen ovale – which is a small hole between the chambers of the heart. This is common in childhood, and often closes without any medical intervention. But it is clear that Orion needs a loving family to get him up out of this chair and living his life!
These children are blessed to be in an excellent orphanage, however this region typically requires 3 trips. This is a great orphanage and the children receive excellent care, and there is minimal travel in-country. This orphanage is close to the Capital city, so it's fantastic for sight-seeing.
Orion is in the same orphanage with Chandler, Robert, and Nadine, among others, and could be adopted with them if a family was interested in doing so.
We have had many successful adoptions from this orphanage, and families are willing to share their experiences.

Be still my heart, is that a dimple?! Saul has been waiting for TOO long. New photos available, he is doing SO well with his foster family but needs to come HOME finally. Walking, talking, eating independently. Saul was born full term by normal delivery with a birth weight of 2.6 kg. He was diagnosed to have Down Syndrome, Ventricular Septal Defect, Article Septal Defect and Bilateral Syndactyly at 3rd and 4th fingers on both hands. His heart condition is stable and does not require any medication since April 2009. At present, he has regular follow-ups in the interval of 9 to 12 months in the paediatric (cardiac) units and a yearly appointment in the orthopaedic clinic. His health condition is stable and sometimes suffers from flu and fever.
His motor development is satisfactory. He walks and runs steadily and manages to stand on one foot. When he is at home, he loves to climb up and down a sofa and transport a toy from one place to another. He loves playing ball games and manages to kick a ball and grasp it with one hand and throw it away. Though he has an operation on separating the bilateral middle and ring fingers in May 2009, the rehabilitation is good and his fingers continue functioning well. Presently, he eats with a spoon, drinks from a cup, takes off his shoes and socks. However, he still cannot fasten or unfasten a button well.
Recently, he improves obviously in speech. He is responsive to conversation and is willing to imitate other’s words. Presently, he can pronounce words up to two syllables like “Ye Ye”, “give me”, “eat” in Cantonese in order to express his needs for food. Besides, he can show or tell his needs on having bowel movement and “wee wee” to the foster mother. When he is at school, he manages to go to the toilet by himself. He is learning not to wear diaper in school and day time but he still has it at night. Though Saul is of small body size, his appetite is good. He usually has two bottles of milk and three meals a day. He eats a bowl of rice mixed with meat and vegetable which are cut into small pieces.

This precious little boy is almost 5 years old now. SO glad to have new photos and updates of him!
This adorable little boy with a great smile was born at 34 weeks and weighed 5.19lbs. At birth he was diagnosed with Down syndrome. He has also been found to have a VSD and ASD of his heart. He did receive surgery in April 2007. He was living with a foster family following his birth until he was transferred to an institution in September 2007. His house mother reports that he is usually stable and calm and that he always wakes up smiling. He currently receives early education and musical therapy. He also receives physical and speech therapy 4 to 5 times per week and is said to be making great gains in his development. In September 2011 he weighed 23.3lbs and was 37.5in tall. At this time he was noted to be able to kick and jump, dress and undress, stack blocks, indicate his toilet needs, imitate some behavior, brush his teeth, eat from a cup and spoon, and understand some words. His development was noted to be at the 18-20 month level except for speech. This amazing little boy is in need of family who is comfortable with his diagnosis and is able to provide him any therapies or medical care that he may need. We also featured him on our blog which can be found here: http://holtinternational.org/blog/2011/08/what-grandma-would-have-loved

Present Development: Timothy is a 3-year and 7-month-old boy with Down Syndrome, moderate astigmatism and beta thalessemia trait. Since April 2010, he has been receiving training at a center Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and he is noted to have obvious improvements in his motor and social skills. Being able to sit well, Timothy can also walk independently. He is now learning to walk upstairs. His speech is also developing. He can say some simple words such as “aunt”, “bread”, “uncle’ etc. He understands most of what is said to him. However, he needs to be motivated to talk. Not being a picky eater, Timothy eats whatever his foster mother has prepared for him. He can feed himself with a spoon yet the foster mother will assist at times. Falling asleep easily, he can also sleep soundly.
Timothy is a sociable boy who gets on well with others and likes meeting new people. He can smile, wave goodbye, clap his hands and blow a kiss to others. Being moody at times, Timothy will grumble when he cannot get what he wants. Timothy is still on diaper and he is learning to urinate into the potty at the training center. Though he is not very motivated in learning new things or activities, he likes singing and watching TV.

From James' medical records: Down Syndrome, undetermined mental deficiency, congenitalheart disease, epilepsy, open oval window, farsightedness, astigmatism, allergic dermatitis, flat feet, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Little James REALLY needs a family! He will so greatly benefit from adequate medical care and early intervention.
Boy, Born October 2007
ABIhktk–Down Syndrome
Kai REALLY needs a family, one who is experienced with his medical needs.
Present Carer: Having lived in a hospital for nearly 3 years, Kai was transferred and has been living in the present Child Care Home since October 13, 2010. He is more delayed socially as a result of so much time in the hospital, but is a darling boy who will thrive in his own family.
Present Development: Kai was found to have Down syndrome, Hirshsprung’s disease, congenital hypothyroidism, congenital heart disease and bilateral hearing deficit at birth. Though his medical condition is stable after he received medical treatment and surgeries, he is prone to illnesses, such as pneumonia, fever, running nose and gastroenteritis. Because of Hirshsprung’s disease, he usually has loose excretion and sometimes diarrhea. He is not interested in eating. At present, he always has milk and puree. When there is someone familiar nearby, he behaves better; takes his bottle or eats with a spoon. However, when he sees no familiar worker around, he does not want to eat, sometimes even cries and needs to be spoon fed.
As described, he is nice but passive and introverted. He tends to be restless when meeting new peoples, new things and in new environment. Usually, he needs to warm up for a while until he feels comfortable to try. During playtime, he loves to play with blocks and flap over children story book alone. He needs companion and encouragement in order to ride on a car, sit on a swing and climb up the stairs of a slide and slide down from the top. He manages to use single words to express his view and responds to questions. He says “play”, “good”, “no” in Cantonese. Sometimes, not only babbling, he tries to imitate some new words when hearing them. He sometimes refuses to play when he feels unhappy. Though his right ear is weak in hearing, he is not required to wear hearing aid.
