Josie’s medical status was updated in late 2011. She does NOT have Down syndrome.
Beautiful little Josie was born prematurely to a mother without prenatal care. She suffered from lack of oxygen during birth. She had some paraylsis in half of her face, which is reported to be resolved. Her lungs were under-developed, so she may have some pulmonary issues — we’re not sure to what extent.
Josie has some serious neurological problems, and an underdeveloped brain. Her official medical diagnosis at this time is FAS (Fetal Alchohol Syndrome), and her physical development is delayed. There is some concern about her ability to walk, due to her neurological issues, but she’s really too young to know for certain at this point.
