Holly 25HA

Holly-jan148mc5-25
Girl, born April 2009
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: blond
Diagnosis: Down syndrome

Restless nature. (02/24/11) The girl is calm. Cognitive interest in practically does not show. Self-sits, stands with support lying rotated in all directions, not creeps. Independently takes the toy in both hands, unstable interest. Understanding of simple everyday instructions available. Emotional reaction only after prolonged stimulation. Spontaneously utters certain vowel sounds.  Does not self feed.

Update from a family who met her, March 2012:

I was there to visit another child, so after quickly greeting her, I turned away to interact with the other child instead. Holly would have none of that! She doesn’t walk yet, but she scoots quickly, and made her way directly to me and into my lap. She giggled a lot and interacted with me the entire time I held her. She stole my heart with her outgoing personality.

The caregivers told me that she had health issues for the first few years of her life and she is only now becoming healthy. She is very tiny for her age. She is in an orphanage that provides for the children but I feel really needs a family soon so that she can start receiving interventions and therapies so that she may grow into a healthy little girl.

Holly’s grant of $3525.51 was gifted to Ruthie.

Diagnosis: Down syndrome

Feb 2011:
Calm and active. Not sitting, it is not necessary, turns in all directions. Shifts the toy from hand to hand. Interested in other children. Babbles.

A family adopted from the same orphanage in Dec 2011.  They did not meet Isabel, but said it was a very nice place:  ”The kids were VERY well cared for, all the ones that we saw looked healthy. This is an excellent facility and the kids seem happy and well-adjusted.”

Update from a family who met her, March 2012:

Isabel and Holly are together in the same group. She is small for her age, not walking yet, but the caregivers are working on helping her stand and she takes steps holding their hands. She is a very happy, sweet, gentle personality. She enjoyed our time interacting and responded well to being hugged and held in my arms. She is tiny for her age but looks healthy overall.

Isabel’s grant of $2335.21 has been gifted to Leanne in Asia.

Elaina 25HA

r28o-elaina-april2013r28o-25
Girl, born October 2010
Black eyes
Hair dark brown
The character is calm

Diagnosis: Down syndrome

From an adoptive family who visited with her in 2011:  When I held Elaina she melted into my arms and cuddled up close. She appeared to be about six months old but the director said she was approximately 10 months old at the time. Although she is small, she has the most adorable chubby cheeks and is surprisingly well-fed compared to the other children we saw at this orphanage. The director explained Elaina is a favorite among the workers because she is so sweet and affectionate. We were told she is “very healthy” with “no heart issues.” While I held her she made eye contact and held it. Her eyes were very dark and expressive and she smiled up at me the entire time. She is still so young and would absolutely thrive if adopted soon. The orphanage is in a very poor region and is run down. The children with special needs do not receive any therapy and are treated differently from the other children. However, the director is kind and loves the children and especially wants to find families for the children with special needs because she said “they have no future here.” She also told us Elaina has been in the orphanage since birth and was “rejected at the hospital” by her birth parents.

Elaina’s grant of $1065.00 was gifted to Laura in Asia.
