From a family who met him Jan 2017:
This sweet boy is 8 years old but has some big set backs. He weights probably 35 lbs and size 5T falls off of him. He was being hosted and it did not work out. They were expecting a 8 year old and he is more the age of 4. He changed houses and we took turns caring for him. He is a super sweet boy, but has burn scars all over his body so he has been through some hard times and abuse. According to the orphanage they don’t know much about him. Heartbreaking. He cannot read or write and does not know his letters and numbers.
He is such a sweet boy and really loves attention from men. He is drawn to the father figure. He’s a lot of work but he’s going to be an awesome kid. IF the family is ready to work. He’s teachable! He doesn’t read or write but then again, I don’t know that anyone taught him…

From a family who met her in 2014: This young lady is very sweet! She is in school and just finished the 3rd level. Betsy likes to color, read, run, swing on the playground, and dance. When we were able to talk to her she seemed slightly shy but very calm and gentle. Betsy is articulate and seems only slightly delayed. She and my daughter hugged and cried when they had to say good-bye. Betsy really wants to come to America. She would be a wonderful addition to any family! I would love to share more with seriously interested families.
Update November 2016: Here is a beautiful young lady who wants a family very badly. Betsy just turned 14 years old. She is fun, rather shy, very sweet, immature emotionally (more like an 8-10yo), physically affectionate, with some mild mental delays, has severe astigmatism that made her nearly blind (but since corrected with strong glasses). She was hosted this summer by a family in TX. We visited Betsy for 6 days while she was here. Betsy confided in our daughter that she did not want to go back to her country at all and wanted to stay here in America with a mama and papa and brothers and sisters. Betsy cried at the thought of going back to her internat (boarding school for orphans).
Yes, adopting Betsy would be adopting an older child. Yes, it comes with different expectations than adopting an infant. Yes, I’ve been there done that and would be more than happy to share the ups and downs of adopting an older child. Yes, I would adopt Betsy in a heartbeat if our house wasn’t already full.
Please, DO NOT turn away from Betsy. Please, pray about adopting her.
I KNOW what kind of internat she comes from…it’s NOT a good place. Betsy does have a few teachers who do care somewhat for these children. She does receive some schooling. Betsy needs out!

From a family who met her summer 2015: This little girl is wonderful! I have never met a child with so much personality and spunk. She absolutely loves people and she is so desperate for attention. I held her for most of our visitation time one day. If I tried to put her down she demanded that I pick her up again and then she would kiss all over me. She just wanted someone to be near her. Everyday when my husband would walk through the playground gates she would get a stern look on her face and point at him and then motion for him to come to her… NOW:) She would smile from ear to ear when he acknowledged her. You can not help but laugh when you are with her. Even the cold and distant nannies couldn’t keep a solemn expression on their faces when we interacted with her.
She is in need of urgent dental care! I have never seen such decayed teeth before. I am not sure why her mouth is so much worse than all the other children but her mouth is really concerning. She can stand on her own but struggles to lift and bend her legs when she is bearing weight on them. She has a little walker that she does wonderful with. She can walk along a bench by holding on to it but we never saw her walk independently. From what I could tell she does not have any limitations of her upper body.
We never witnessed her show any aggression towards any of the children. When I would sit on the bench holding my daughter she would try to climb in my lap as well, but she never tried to harm my daughter or push her out of the way. She is very hungry for attention and for the love of a family. She would make a wonderful daughter and I am sure she would provide you with a life time of laughter.
This child has significant facial features of FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome). This is a cautionary disclosure only. Families should research the varying impacts of this condition.

From a family who knows him, November 2016: “Kayden was transferred to the institution last month. He is so full of sunshine and does not belong here! He still drinks from a bottle, but our team is trying to teach him to eat from a spoon. He can sit up, but does not crawl or walk. Kayden loves people and easily engages when we talk to him. He makes great eye contact and has the best little giggle. He is ticklish too! We are hoping and praying for a family to come take him out while he still has light in his eyes.”
From a family who met him March 2018: I held tiny little Kayden! He is such a sweetheart and a tiny little lovebug! I couldn’t believe there was a child in the room he was lying so still and so quietly. I asked permission to pick him and was told yes, as soon as I held him he let out that adorable little giggle I had heard before in his Wide Awake video. Wish I had a video it is the cutest little giggle! He is such a happy baby boy. He clung to me, I had to pry him off to put him down, he wants out so badly. He also reached for the bars of the crib he wants to stand and just needs someone to help him and teach him! Kayden is technically not a baby but he is tiny, lighter than my 18 mo. old and desperately needs a Mama to hold him so he can grow.

From a family who met him in June 2014:
This calm little guy came up to me with pleading eyes for attention and is just so polite. God has heard his prayers, and now he is listed for adoption! He is not overbearing or competitive at all. Rather, he is observant and inquisitive. He is about the size of a six year-old and just so gentle. I would take him home in a heartbeat if he was available before. He takes turns riding the red wagon around the orphanage grounds as the bigger boys pull him, and he gestures politely for fresh fruit when he sees it is available. He is kind to other children. He says a few words in his native language, and listened carefully when I was giving descriptions of my family photos. I have confidence that he would do wonderfully in any kind of family, and it is obvious– he can surely reciprocate love! He enjoyed throwing balls, going on walks, playing see-saw, and listening to English descriptions. Whoever adopts this little love will be so blessed to call him a beloved son.

She is a very sweet and kind girl and extremely needs a family. She will be 5 this December, so any new family may commit to her and start preparing a dossier.
She has siblings, but none are available for adoption; 2 older sisters live with birth mother and 1 younger sister has been adopted.
From a family who met her in summer 2013:
She was in my kids’ groupa. She is the sweetest little thing and needs out of there ASAP!!! She has the most noble quiet nature about her. She is mentally delayed but has so much potential. She was one of the least favored children in the orphanage and she is desperate for love. On one occasion she wandered over to the play shelter where we were playing and was trying to eat our daughter’s cookie. We didn’t have any extra (we brought treats for the groupa every three days or so) so my husband just picked her up to distract her and as soon as he did, she threw her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder just soaking in the attention. I can’t bear the thought of her being transferred! She already has it bad enough.

From a family who met her in February 2017: ” She is what would be considered “low functioning”. I would describe her as autistic, although autism is not listed in her chart. She is currently fed via tube inserted into her mouth to her stomach. She was sick with a flu type virus and sent to the hospital. Prior to that visit she was eating regularly by mouth. After a week at hospital being fed by tube she has had difficulties swallowing. She is small. The size of a thin two year old. She does gently reach for your hand and make some eye contact and interaction. She has VERY low tone and does not sit up on her own. She is gentle. She does not yell or cry according to nannies, she is gentle with other children and mainly keeps to herself. Playing with her hands.”
From a missionary who met her in December 2016: “Strabismus. Low tone. Very cuddly and mushy! Can stand with some support. I showed them some therapy positions and exercises for them to do to get her to weight bear on her feet and I can tell that they have been doing it. Her nose and eyes were excessively yucky and I suspected that her hearing was impaired from fluid. I discussed it with her doctors and they were going to follow up on it. She makes sounds, no language. ‘Lower functioning’ (but I hate to say that). The orphanage workers love her and I think that is a problem in that they carry her about. She is in a baby house with typical peers. I believe with some medical attention and therapy she is capable of progressing.”
