Garrett

Sept 2004Boy, born Sept 2004Garrett
Coffin Lowry Syndrome, Hydrocephalus, moderate mental delays

Garrett does not speak, but understands speech addressed to him.  Garrett can be adopted with Troy and Sammy.

From an adoptive family:
I met Garrett in May 2012 and I will always remember how sweet he was.  He was usually the first one to greet me with a hug when I visited.  He was always so excited to show off for me.  When the care-taker announced that they were all going outside he promptly put his shoes on and helped some of the other kids with their shoes as well.  He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Sammy) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows.  It is obvious that they have been taught manners and cooperation and they are very kind to one another.  They are taught at least several days a week so do not let the diagnosis deceive you, they are fairly smart boys.  They all have obvious delays but never had any problems following instructions and they understood everything they were told and all seemed to love to be helpful.  When I show our son (who was adopted from this group) their pictures he remembers their names and tells me they were his friends.  He told me he wants them to be adopted and to come to the U.S.  How I pray that happens for Garrett and the other boys!  Garrett is so sweet and innocent, I hate to see what will happen to him if he ages out of the orphanage.

Sammy

Feb 2005Boy, born Feb 2005

What a great grin!   Sammy can be adopted together with Troy or Garrett.

Sammy

From an adoptive family:

I met Sammy in May 2012 and he was one of the sweetest kids I had ever met. Always ready with a smile and a hug! I brought things for all the kids in his group and he waited so patiently for his turn and gave me a big hug after. He was very kind and gentle with all the other kids, especially the one girl in the group. He and the other boys in his group (Troy and Garrett) are very well loved by one of their care-takers and it shows.

How I pray that happens for Sammy and the other boys! Sammy is so sweet and innocent, I hate to see what will happen to him if he ages out of the orphanage.

Beatrice

beatricemay2013-1-croppedGirl, born October 2011
No eyes, no nose; congenital heart defect (open oval window)

Sweet little Beatrice!    Imagine being stuck in a crib all day….with little opportunity for stimulation anyway, but also having no sense of vision or smell either!   Imagine what reconstructive surgery will do for this angel…..the gift to know the beauty of the world around her and the smell of *home*.

Beatrice is doing well medically, she is a good weight so far, but REALLY needs a family!   She makes sounds, likes to communicate and interact with others.

The sooner she can get into a family, the better, so she can get the therapy she’ll need to blossom.

From a family who met her in Oct 2012:   “I got the pleasure of meeting Beatrice today and such a beautiful baby girl she is.  When I looked at her all I could think about as she moved her adorable lips as though she was taking a bottle after waking up from a nap was if she could only get adopted in America the opportunities and what surgery would do for this little girl.  Her life would be changed let alone saved.  When I visited her it was very emotional even for the staff at the school and tears ran down their face and I held her hand and she squeezed my fingers.  She is very loved her and the staff can only hope and pray she finds a forever family to give her all the opportunity and chances in life she so deserves.  I have personally adopted and am adopting from this school now twice and it is an incredible school to work with and the children are loved and cared for but when her time is up when she ages out her future will be grim.  I pray this precious girl will find her forever family.”

A family that visited her orphanage in May 2013 observed that Beatrice was able to stand in her crib.  They also saw that the arm braces have been removed, that she could sit up unassisted and could grip toys in both hands.  During a verbal interaction with Beatrice, the family observed that she turned toward their voice in response.

Mild to moderate mental delays, FAS, tuberculosis of the lymph nodes

Update March 2013:

Jeanette was exposed to alcohol prenatally.  She has issues with impulsivity/understanding consequences.   She is well-liked where she is, but needs additional support to succeed in school.  It’s recommended that Jeanette would do great with older children whom could help correct her behavior and could model appropriate behavioral for her.

She is very sweet and loves to draw, and color.  She pays great attention to detail in her drawings and when she is doing something she like to do like drawing she can sit still for a very long time doing it. She is also very funny and dramatic. She loves to act and dance and sing and make goofy faces and act silly to make people laugh. She could do well in a family but they would need to be prepared for FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).

Cara

2060208302720602083027 CaraGirl, born September 2007

FAS, cognitive delays, anemia, ADD, congenital malformation of ribs NOS: pectus excavatum congenital heart defect:  Atrial septal defect

What a little doll!   She may be a strawberry blonde?  Cara is a sweet little girl with many of the challenges of fetal alcohol syndrome.   Facial features, cognitive/academic delays, inattention, and heart condition are all common symptoms of FAS.  She previously had a diagnosis of Hep C, but we believe that was preliminary at birth.   Families should be aware of this and prepared, but not expect it to be the case.  Cara will need to be followed by a cardiologist.

From one of our adoptive families who met her in 2013:  Cara seems to be a very bright girl all around. She wanted to sneak out into the room where we were playing with our daughter. They all try When she was told to come in she would quickly sit by our side and say, “but I’m going to sit here nicely and play, I promise.” I felt so bad when they would make her come in. She DID play very nicely. She didn’t throw any tantrums. We gave her a mini slinkie to keep and she was so excited and said thank you and ran back into the room.   Her hair is cut much shorter and she is petite.  She got her shoes on and off by herself…and fast when told she could play after her shoes were on.  She would really thrive in a family.  This region waives the 10 day wait usually too which is extra nice.

Cara is facing transfer this year and urgently needs a family to give her the life and future she deserves.  This region often waives the waiting period!  Married couples only, older parents and large families OK, travel required.

He is sweet and adorable and oh so lovable!  He laughs when his toes are tickled, or when someone around him laughs or talks or sings to him. He often smiles or laughs so hard his chubby cheekers make his eyes close. He ha s learned to blow spit bubbles and coo. It is hard for me to tell if he is able to use his limbs normally, but he is able to move from his back to his side with little or no assistance. He has not yet learned to play with toys, but he has a very strong grip and enjoys holding my finger. I was told he can see, but not very well. I observed his eyes moving rapidly from side to side, and sometimes appearing to be looking in two different directions. In spite of this there were other times in which he appeared to be quite focused and looking right at us. He has absolutely stolen my heart, and I hope that he will find a family that can help him meet his full potential!

What a lovely little pair of pixies!  Nadia and Nancy are twins.  Please help us find them a family where they can grow up, together!

From a family who met them in 2012:

We saw them successfully feeding themselves borscht. They were sitting up properly and feeding themselves soup with a spoon. One walks and even runs a little stiff/awkwardly but they are absolute DOLLS! The other crawls and socializes.  They have deep auburn hair and dark hazel-ish eyes. They are both tall, lean, and long-limbed. One is a bit more shy than the other. Both are BORED and need music, hugs, kisses, and a mama and daddy! They loved our attention and carried around magazine pages. They are beautiful twin girls!!!Oh my heart!!!! My heart is breaking!  Someone will be blessed to be their parents!

Barton

barton-1 barton-3Boy, born December 1997
Rough mental delay, cerebral palsy spastic tetraparesis, partial atrophy of optic nerves

Barton is a quiet boy. He loves to be outside, staring at the sky, following the birds with his eyes. He loves to feel the wind around his and when there’s a leaf on the ground and the wind blows it away, he goes running after it. Barton doesn’t make eye contact but he does listen when you speak to him. He doesn’t talk, but he when you ask him to do something he will immediately do it, come to you and stand in front of you for a moment. When you say ‘well done’ he’ll continue what he was doing before. Barton sometimes seems to live in his own world. He’s not making a lot of social contact with the other children from the group, until somebody turns on the music. He loves music and he will start dancing with the other children of the group.

Barton is fifteen already, so he needs a family fast.  He needs a family committed to him before his 16th birthday. This boy can become so much more if he would be supported by a loving family!

Large families welcome, multiple children may be adopted together from the same orphanage. Married couples only; travel required.

Dell

Boy, born October 1999
Down syndrome

From someone who met him in 2012:

Dell is just such an adorable boy. I feel blessed that I could spend time with him. Dell has down syndrome, but he is such a smart boy. He totally loves attention! He’s a little bit mischievous. He will do something that the nurses told him not to do and then he will look at me or them like ‘Did you see what I do?’ Some of the nurses are having a hard time with him because of that, but I just think it’s wonderful. That kind of behavior tells me that he is acting pretty normal. Which child is not searching for the limits and looking what happens when he crosses them? But his behavior is giving him a hard time in the orphanage he’s living in because the nurses are taking care of fifteen children at the time and they just want easy, obedient children. But I think he is adorable and well functioning.

He develops really well. He is healthy boy, well nourished, he talks a lot. He cuddles the little children in the group and carries them around. He loves to play with building blocks and he can make real houses out of them. And he totally loves pictures! He will always put on a really big smile! That smile is so contagious!

Dell is probably the heaviest boy of the group, and that’s why the nurses tell him he’s too heavy to sit on somebody’s lap or be carried around. But Dell loves it to sit on your lap or to be carried around. He loves it when somebody thinks he’s not too heavy or too big/tall. He starts laughing and laughing when you pick him up and twirl him. He enjoys messing up long hair and playing peekaboo.

Last summer an adopting family visited his orphanage and Dell was so fond of the adopting couple. Especially the ‘daddy’. He really called him daddy and every day when they visited their son, Dell would come running after them, hugging them and just hanging around with them as long as he could, until they left or until the nurses told him to come back.  This boy would function so wonderfully in a family!

Amos

Amos-1Boy, born December 1999
Rough mental delay, hydrocephalic syndrome

From someone who met him in 2012:   Amos is a wonderful sweet boy! He will do anything you’ll ask. In the summer the children will play outside and the more disabled children are sitting in a big box. Everyday he carries out the carpet to put in the box and he will carry out the benches and chairs to sit on as well. When the ‘outside-time’ is over, he would carry it all back in again. He doesn’t really talk, but I’m pretty sure he would be able to. He does make sounds and he loves to ‘sing’. While singing he makes sounds that could almost be words, but as long as he’s lacking of stimulation, I think he will not talk. He likes to dance around to.

He is a big help for the nurses. When a child has to go to the shower or potty he brings them, when a child falls down, he picks the child up, even without somebody telling him to do that. He is a really social butterfly. He cares about the children around him and I’m sure that he would be an awesome big brother, because that’s what he is for the children in his group.

The only self stimulating behavior that I saw in Amos was sticking things in his ears. You can easily distract him from that by offering him a toy. Once he has a toy, he will not be bored, he can play forever with just one toy.

Artemur is a handsome boy who has already been waiting far too long for a family of his own!

Large families welcome, multiple children may be adopted together from the same orphanage.  Married couples only; travel required.

From someone who met Artemur in 2012:  Artemur is a ladies man ;) He loves to greet visitors with a formal “Hello”, a chair for the visitor to sit on, and for the ladies he’ll kiss their hands and sometimes request a kiss by pointing to his cheek. He has ten toes and ten fingers, and appears healthy. He is one of the two highest functioning boys in his group and is a big helper. He is quite verbal, and he has good self-care skills, he is able to feed himself and ask to use the restroom.  He likes to play with etch a sketches, toy phones, and bubbles. Artemur would probably do better in a family environment where he can be the youngest in the family.

Duane

Boy, born November 2000
Down syndrome, neurodystrophy, psychological and motor development disorder, alalia

From someone who met Duane in 2012:

Sweet little Duane is the huggiest boy I’ve ever met! He is a determined, strong willed little guy and is up walking and chasing after balls despite some mild CP on his left side that causes his left knee to extend backwards in a painful looking manner. He has an amazing laugh, though it is sometimes a mischievous laugh. He sometimes feels the need to push boundaries, such as throwing balls at the other children, but he is a boy with a lot of love to give, both to the adults and the other kids in his group. He also sometimes gives massages. I feel he would especially thrive in a house where he is the youngest, or at least the smallest child in the home.

Aubree

Girl, born Aug. 1999
Diagnoses: arthrogryposis; mental delay

Aubree is very active, easy-going, and friendly. Currently, she lives in a special school-orphanage.

From one of our adoptive families who visited with her in August 2012:   She truly is a ray of sunshine!   She comes out to greet us in her wheelchair (she has good upper body strength, her legs are fixed straight out in front of her and are tiny.   She doesn’t appear to have AMC in her upper limbs at all.   She is extremely friendly and happy, she enjoys singing and dances in her wheelchair. She can also use her upper body strength to scoot around the floor. I am so excited that she is available because I know she will be a wonderful daughter if just given a chance.   This girl just exudes love and happiness!   The orphanage does provide the children with an education, and even music instruction.  We were able to see Aubree perform in a concert that the children gave for their visitors (they have help from humanitarian groups that come in to work on the building and work with the children).  If anyone asks about her, I would love to talk with them more about the orphanage and the children there.   They have my heart!

FACING IMMINENT TRANSFER!

Ginger and Jamie are 5 years old and waiting for their forever family.  They are fraternal twins and can only be adopted together as siblings.

Both children have significant effects from fetal alcohol syndrome.   Both of them are very social and friendly.   They deserve to be in a family who can care for them!!  Both children are cognitively delayed, with vision issues as well.

Ginger (left):  brown hair and big blue eyes!    severe congenital myopia, organic affection of the central nervous system, nanism of somatic genesis, mental retardation

Jamie (right) brown hair and brown eyes: organic affection of the central nervous system, congenital hypotheriosis, severe myopia, mental retardation.

From a family who met them in 2012:
They were [children] I wanted to remember. We met them both on several occasions during our outside visits. Ginger was all over my hubs, tugging, pulling, hitting, and climbing all over him. To say she wanted attention from him is an understatement. She had lots of energy and always wanted me to pick her up. She always wanted me to hold her hand too! We went on several walks together. She’s a spitfire for sure! Jamie was a lovely little boy. He was always so helpful to the younger kids in their groupa. He loved to push the others on their bikes and was a big help to the nannies. They’re both available and would thrive with lots of love, structure, and attention. I’d be happy to share our experience if any one is interested!

Kanani

Kanani has been transferred!

Lovely Kanani needs a family to help her reach her full potential.

From a family who met her in May 2012:

Kanani is very sweet girl. She is well cared for in a good orphanage by caring nannies. She gets lots of outside time when it’s warm out but this time is spent lying down in the stroller as she can’t sit on her own. She can hold on to your fingers and seems to just love to have attention although with her eye troubles it is difficult for her to respond. She likes to have her cheek stroked and her hand held. She is quite stiff and in need of physiotherapy and most of all love and attention. We were told that she will be transferred to an institution very soon unless a family is found as children at this orphanage are typically transferred at age 4.

Anne

Anne2012Girl, born February 2008
Diagnosis: epilepsy, generalized form with severe seizures
Moderate mental delay

Sweet Anne, all dolled up for her picture!

She does have some general delays, and is not yet independent with potty training.  She would greatly benefit from being in a family!

From a family who met her in April 2013:
Anne is walking independently. She can go up and down steps with help. She smiles a lot. She likes to drop toys and watch them fall. She appears to be connected to her caregiver and goes to her for comfort.  She liked a music/light up toy but needed guidance to activate it. She appears pretty cognitively delayed, and doesn’t have any verbal language. I see a lot of progress in her with the right family and interventions!

Eric

Guardian Angel

Boy, born Dec 2008

Eric is a smiley little fellow who likes to feel his caretaker’s heartbeat or pulse, because it comforts him. He would be a wonderful little brother in a household of older children.

Eric has arthrogryposis and compensated hydrocephalus. He has had a surgical repair of spina bifada. Overall, he is healthy and would do well in a family without smaller children. His upper body is quite strong and he has full use of his hands, fingers and arms, but he has little control or movement in his lower limbs and they are significantly smaller than his upper body. He can squeeze very tightly with his hands, and reach a full arm’s length with no problems even though his resting position is the one you see in the pictures. He does not talk, according to the caretakers but does make sounds to communicate. Cognitively, he has significant delays due to his history of spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He is very much still an infant in many ways.

The picture in the orange shirt was taken at age 18 months, and the second picture was taken at 3 years old. He may have a sister a few years older in a different region who possibly could also be available for adoption or he could be adopted separately. She also has special needs.

Francis

Boy, born Oct 2004

This young man has a deep mental delay, and cerebral palsy.

From a family who met him in 2011:

Sweet Francis needs a family.  He does not currently sit up, but I think he probably could if he were given an opportunity to be out of his chair and get stronger.  Overall, Francis seems to be physically healthy, aside from his CP.  I suspect his cerebral palsy

affects his upper and lower body.  He is very tight.  More concerning is his emotional well being.  Francis does not get much mental stimulation or interaction, outside of his immediate basic needs.  The caregivers are kind and do love him, but are unsure what to do with him.  He gets good basic care.  He is fed and is clean.  He is not left in a crib.  He sits in his orange chair all day long.  I tried to talk to Francis and touch him.  He is very uncomfortable with touch, but he has the sweetest blue eyes and I know that the right family could draw this little boy out of his shell.  Please someone, take a chance on Francis.  He will thrive with the proper care and stimulation.

Hope someone will see this darling boy and give him the chance he deserves to have a loving family of his own.   Married couples only.  Older parents and large families welcome.  Travel required.

He is said to have encephalopathy (unspecified disease of the brain), Childhood autism, and moderate mental delays.

He also has vision problems:  Convergent concomitant strabismus (crossing eyes) and hypermetropia (far-sighted); and is said to be anemic.

Tessa (Lora)

Girl, born August 2008

We were recently informed LORA is actually Tessa!

What a little doll Tessa is!  She really needs a family — she has a whole host of medical issues.

Mental delay, rickets, strabismus (crossed eyes), epilepsy, and a speech delay. She does not talk at all.  She prefers to be alone.  Some of her behaviors remind autism but she was not diagnosed with it.  Her epilepsy is well controlled by medications.  It has been suggested that Tessa may have Angelman Syndrome, but this is not confirmed.

She is able to stand and walk independently. She does not have a diagnosis of CP but she walks unsteadily.   She was previously diagnosed with microcephaly.

She deserves a loving family and a chance to reach her potential, not to be hidden away in a mental institution.

Cate

Cate was born in November, 2002

Isn’t she lovely?  Cate is said to be a very nice girl who desperately needs a family.
Cate has heart issues, and her diagnoses are as follows:  discordant atrioventricular junction, corrigent transposition of magistral vessels, coronary-left ventricle fistula, complete atrioventricular heart block

Cate does have some facial features of FAS, families considering her adoption should be educated on the spectrum effects of fetal alcohol syndrome and the challenges of adopting older children.

Brody and Auggie

Brody (on the left) born April 2006

Auggie (on the right) born March 2005
Rough mental delay, partial atrophy of eye nerves, cerebral palsy, episyndrome
From someone who met Brody in 2011 and Auggie in 2012:

Brody and Auggie are sweet little boys who appear to have some sort of genetic disorder that causes developmental delays and self-harming behaviors. They are not aggressive towards others, only towards themselves, and these behaviors can be halted temporarily by picking either boy up and spinning him around. Brody is able to walk, and can drink from a cup without help. He is not quite able to feed himself, but is willing to try. Auggie was in a laying room for over a year, but after only 3 months of physical therapy is now sitting independently and working on learning to stand. Both boys have wonderful, heart stealing smiles. Brody appears to be in his own world much of the time, and loves things that crinkle or light up, and things shaped like sticks, as well as hands, gloves, feet and socks. He shows numerous signs of autism, which may or may not be environmental. Auggie loves things that crinkle or light up, slinkies, music, and tv. He is more interactive than Brody, and appears to lift his arms up to indicate he would like to be held. This is the only form of communication I observed from either of the boys. The boys are currently living in separate orphanages. I pray a family will reunite these brothers together in one family, where they can receive all the love and attention they need to meet their full potential!

We hope a family will consider adopting them TOGETHER.

Angelia

Girl, Born April 7, 2001

Diagnosis: Down syndrome

Angelia has been living in an institution for 5 years. Yet she is healthy, active, happy and SO ready for a family to love her and show her what her life is supposed to be like. She does have some strabismus, but no heart condition. The orphanage staff tell us she does like to play with toys, is interactive and affectionate, and has “potential to improve”.
Angelia is in a place where we have successfully adopted several children out of, and those families can tell you horror stories about many of the other kids there. Angelia is strong and healthy, despite her surroundings. What a miracle it would be to save her!

Alicia

alicia6Girl, Born 2004

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!  ALICIA HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED.

SO THANKFUL FOR A NEW PIC OF ALICIA!!   Miss Alicia is a beautiful little girl who needs a loving family.  Her other two typically developing sisters were adopted by other families already.

Alicia was born to an HIV+ mother, and is HIV+ herself.  She has also has significant delays and challenges associated with her FAS.  (fetal alcohol syndrome).  We are waiting to learn if she has any medical complications, but she is cognitively delayed and does show signs of attention deficit and hyperactivity.    Alicia will do best where she can be the focus of attention and have her Daddy wrapped around her finger :)     Alicia has SO much potential, and deserves a family as much as her other sisters do.   I know there is a family out there for this little girl!  She is facing the mental institution soon, but has grown up in a loving and well kept orphanage so far.  A committed family now can prevent her transfer!

From an adoptive family who visited with her in July 2010:  “ Alicia absolutely LOVES one on one attention. she is front and center if you are handing out kisses and hugs. You can see she wants a Mama all her own, and it will be so hard on her to have her sister leave to be adopted, as her other sister was already adopted.   (Their mother is deceased, most likely from AIDS).   She likes to swing.   She loved to lay her head in my lap while we were both on the bench swing and I would stroke her hair. The other kids didnt like to share my attention but Alicia was ok with it.   I could have two in my lap and she didn’t mind, but she didnt like being crowded out when the other child decided they wanted me all to themselves.  She likes sensory input.   She kept rubbing her arm across my husband’s unshaved face and shivering and making the funniest face and then immediately doing it again.  She likes to go down the slide again and again.   She really likes to be in the  middle of whatever is going on, and be included. But often she is excluded, even by attendants.  For Alicia it’s a vicious circle. She is delayed, she gets frustrated, they don’t let her do things the others are doing, she gets more delayed and more frustrated. She is VERY VERY SWEET AND LOVING.  She needs a family that has only a couple kids, not ten. She has HIV.   If you want a little girl to hug and kiss, she will GLADLY take all the hugs and kisses you can hand out. She isn’t afraid of men but isn’t inappropriate either. I saw her with my husband as well as another couple of young men who visit regularly.  Alicia is on the small side, like maybe size 4.  The children are valued and loved at this orphanage.   The grounds are visually stimulating and the kids get outside for a couple hours in the morning as well as afternoon.   They even go swimming in the pool they have there.   Hope someone will come for Alicia very soon!”   Alicia is toilet-trained and able to say when she needs to use the restroom.  She has tremendous potential if someone would take her home and love her!

Ruslan

Boy, Born November 12, 2002

Diagnosis: Down syndrome

ALREADY TRANSFERRED, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Ruslan is a handsome young man who is in desperate need of a family right away.  He has strabismus, and is also a CARRIER of Hepatitis B.  (www.webmd.com) He is asymptomatic at this time.   We are trying to get more details on his Hep B….he is living in the general population of children, so they don’t appear to be very concerned about him transmitting it to other children.   (Typically, children with blood-born viruses such as Hep B and HIV are isolated in special orphanages and never available to be adopted, so we are thinking that maybe he tested positive at birth and hasn’t been retested, or he isn’t showing any outwards symptoms).

From a nurse in the infectious disease unit in a pediatric hospital:  *** Hepatitis B is something that children in the USA are routinely vaccinated for.   If parents have not received the vaccinations, they can easily go to their physician and receive the series.  With these vaccinations transmission is extremely minimal as vaccinated parties can have immunity to Hepatitis B. Titers (simple blood test) can also be drawn after taking the vaccines to make sure immunity has been acquired. Hepatitis B is also treatable with medications and people can also just be carriers of the virus.  This health condition is labeled chronic, but with proper medical treatment and simple precautions it is very treatable and the risk of transmission is minimal at most. ***

Ruslan has already been transferred out to the institution due to his age, but he can still be adopted!!    Families considering Ruslan should be home study complete/approved prior to commitment, as his needs will be great.   Please open you heart to little Ruslan….he needs you!

From a family who met him in October 2012:

Kristopher is a super-sweet boy who is 5 but looks 2 and is happy ALL the time.  He needs to live near a large medical facility, have heart surgery (unless it’s too late), and probably needs a small family that can commit to pretty full care for him. He is darling!
