Adam is a sweet, easy to please little cuddle bug. He is very much like a cuddly, curious little toddler. When I first met him he did not seem interested in me at all, but as time went by he began to want affection, and would grab my hands if I stopped rubbing his head and put them back on his head.

One day I picked him up and from that moment on he wanted to spend most of my time there in my arms. When I arrived he’d jump up from his little wooden chair, and hurry over to me with his arms raised. If I didn’t pick him up fast enough he’d try to climb up into my arms using nearby chairs or beds, and he would not hesitate to grab items from my hands and set them down to free up my hands so I could hold him. He also began to cry whenever I left. He loves wind up toys and toys that vibrate, and would giggle happily and flap his hands to show how excited he was about them. His other favorite toys were a pony he enjoyed chewing on, any sort of car, and some legos that made a train. He is not verbal but was beginning to make noises to communicate. I tried to teach him to sign more one day, by signing hand over hand with him. When I asked him to sign it he took my hands and helped me sign it. He seems to me to have a need for love and affection that can only come from a loving family. I would love to see him thriving and meeting his full potential, as well as bringing joy to as many people as possible!

Kenneth

Photo dated Feb 2010. Kenneth is a blonde haired, blue eyed cutie who was born with FAS. Kenneth does have some spasticity on his left side, and will greatly benefit from therapy and a loving family to encourage him! He is diagnosed with hydrocephaly, but this is a result of the FAS. He is not in need of a shunt to correct (the doctors say).

As you can see from this updated picture, Kenneth is doing GREAT! He wants a mama and papa of his own.

If you are unfamiliar with FAS, please spend some time researching this condition. Just as with Down syndrome, FAS and FAE have a wide variation of effects on each child, both medically, physically, and cognitively. Hanson

Hanson Boy, born 2006

Hanson is an extroverted boy who is 7 years old. He was found on a staircase at the subway station when he was 4 years old. His limb and intelligence development is delayed compared to peers, but his motor skills have improved with 2 years of post-operative rehabilitation. When he was admitted, he could only walk short distances and would fall down easily, but now with an improved, but not completely steady walk and run, he can walk long distances, go upstairs and downstairs while holding onto rails and even likes to play outdoor activities. His right hand function has also gotten better as he can grasp most objects and can eat with a spoon. His language development is quite delayed compared to his peers. He can say 3-5 words, and understands simple vocabularies. He is very curious and observant of the things around him, and desires to communicate through play.

Hanson received surgery in October 2012 for posterior rhizotomy of spinal nerves and right carotid sympathectomy part stripping resection. Now he receives postoperative rehabilitation. At this time, Hanson’s muscular tension of left limbs is not high, and his language ability is developing.

He struggles with speech and audio attention. His hearing is weak, hearing at 30dB in his right ear and 45dB in his left. He needs to wear glasses at all times. His language is unclear and he communicates with gestures. Because of his language delays and poor hearing he has difficulty being able to express his thoughts. He quickly and emotionally reacts to external stimulus and will take toys from other children. Main social skills are developed.

Owen is described at stubborn and strong-willed, he wants what he wants and isn’t the best at sharing. He can choose which activity he wants to participate in and enjoys playing independently. He likes individual games and during them he is accurate, careful, attentive, and concentrated. He keeps his attention for approximately 30 minutes, needs a short break, but can then return to the same activity. He can use scissors. He is showing preference of using his left hand . He can point out parts of the body. He can complete a 12 piece puzzle accurately. He comprehends the meaning of movies that he watches. Owen currently attends kindergarten for children with hearing disabilities and is seeing a speech therapist.

This little one is an orphanage favorite and is said to steal your heart when you meet him. He has a wonderful personality and is quite the little helper. Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, epileptic syndrome, significant mental delays. Unable to walk, spastic/tight muscles. Evan is blessed to still be at the baby house (as of March 2010), but once he is transferred, he will spend the rest of his short life bedridden. Please consider being a loving family for Evan!

From a missionary who visited with him in March 2012: Evan is also in the boys new house where just 9 children are. He was gentle, lovey, cuddly and just so sweet. He is severely delayed but a gentle delight to be around and he loved stacking blocks with me. He was picked on quite a bit by the others who I saw hitting him. Felt so desperate for him.

From a family who met him in summer 2012:
One of the boys I worry most about is Evan. He appears to have cerebral palsy. He is stiff and a bit distorted. He does not have the luxury of PT and OT to help him function better. He sits hour after hour in a wheel chair. He will not be one that is given a job on the grounds like the others. As he gets older and bigger he will be moved to a bed and left there. He will be put in a diaper and left in bed – fed there and left – the diaper changed once or twice a day. He will no longer be taken outside he will just be left to lay there.

As I pushed our son’s wheelchair back to the house I waved at Evan. His eyes came to life – he was noticed. Later when I returned he waved and smiled. After that I made it a point to include Evan as much as possible. I would push his wheelchair to where the group was. If we were playing with balloons I would make sure he had one. He soon learned to pop the balloon. He thought it was hysterical. It also got him attention – everyone would look.

Of all the kids there I think he has the most room for improvement. With a family that will stretch him and help him I think he has a ton of potential! He is speech delayed also but again has so much potential.

This 8 years old boy has been diagnosed with Fraccaro syndrome. He demonstrated a delayed neuropsychological development and hypogonadism, symptomatic epilepsy and mental delay. He needs a lot of positive emotions, individual work and positive reinforcement in order to master new skills and habits, and further acquire knowledge. His physical development is not correspondent to his biological age. He can sit independently but it is hard for him to walk on uneven surface and he is not always able to go down the stairs. This is main reason he cannot take part in sports games. He knows his name and responds with eyes when called by his name, especially when call by a familiar adult. He cannot speak yet and can pronounce a few words only.

This spunky little angel is ready to melt your heart! Kiril has blonde hair and hazel eyes, and a smile that can light up a room! He was born with cerebral palsy. One of our own adoptive families who visited with him in March 2008 said this about Kiril: “ I’m a sucker for blondies and this little guy with his green-brown eyes is adorable! He smiled and wanted to interact with me when I came into the room despite the cries of his neighbor. His smiles were brief but heartwarming and then he was curious about what I was up to. Each time the camera flashed he rewarded it with a great grin! Except it was always right AFTER the flash so I couldn’t capture his sweet smile.”

NEW UPDATE!: What a blessing to still have visibility of Kirill, and know he is still fighting for a chance and waiting for his family to come for him. He is regressing, as he is given little opportunity to stretch or be mobile at all. He needs help for the strength to sit up now, but even still he wears a smile and a light in his eyes. There is a loving, forever family out there for this boy!

Travis

Travis is listed as having congenital defects of the Central Nervous System (CNS). We don’t have additional information yet on how that affects him overall.

From a family who met him in 2012:

When I saw Travis my heart completely broke. I remembered his picture where he was sitting up, and it was obvious that in the time since that picture was taken his health and any ability he once had had deteriorated. He laid nearly lifeless, covered with blankets (mind you it is very hot in the room). I only have the one picture of him because his position never changed. He rarely moved and seemed to be asleep all the time. The only time I ever saw him move he just rocking his head from side to side very slowly as he grinded his teeth…and grinded…and grinded. My instant feeling was that Travis had given up on life, and it breaks my heart.

Every time I saw him there was vomit on the blanket next to his mouth. I suspect it is due to improper feeding. Like Janna, Travis is living at the orphanage on borrowed time.

Please friends, let’s not let Travis give up on life. I don’t know what his future ability would be in a family but even if it never changed isn’t he deserving of the love of a family? Please…someone…rescue Travis.

Braden lived with his mother until her death before entering the orphanage last year (2011). You can tell he was LOVED and taken care for. He is doing quite well compared to many of the other children which is attributed to being in a family versus institution. Who knows how much he could improve with the love of a family! He also has a caregiver he has attached to.

He is a mobile child and very active. He tries to walk himself. He understand what most people are talking about but he can’t talk in sentences. He can pronounce some words. Weston is a sweet boy who has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He has been diagnosed with moderate physical and mental disabilities. He has been enrolled in early intervention education programs and motor rehabilitation courses. When Weston was two years old he lived with a Nanny who was able to provide amazing care. He formed a strong attachment to her and she was able to provide him with the rehabilitation training needed. Due to the birth family’s inability to pay the Nanny, Weston was transferred to a nursing home. The nursing home was not able to properly meet his needs so he was transferred to a new home.

Weston needs a loving family to care for him and help him reach his full potential!

Navid is described as positive, cheerful, and neat! He appears to be cognitively normal, but with pretty significant CP.

From someone who met him:
Navid is such a happy boy, a little mischievous. He has pretty severe CP, and he spends most of his time in a wheel chair, but he is able to roll over and move around wiggling like a worm. He likes to make jokes. Because he is bound to his wheel chair he doesn’t get a lot of chances to play. Inside the building he can only sit at a table, so what he does most of the time is building with building blocks. At least, he tries to. His fine motor skills are not that good, but he really tries. In the summer of 2012 I trained him to ride his own wheel chair so that he could at least move around a little bit. It made him so happy when he could ride his wheel chair. We walked a lot of rounds together.

He seems to realize that outside the gate of the institution, there’s another world. Sometimes when we were walking/riding around he would steer to the fence and stare through, pointing at the people who were walking on the other side. The people would stare back at him and he would look at me as if he wanted to ask to take him out. I really considered, I could see the desire in his eyes.

But most of the times he is happy and his smile is so contagious. Whenever he is smiling I just want to hold him and cuddle him really close. He loves it when I go with my fingers through his hair, he would lay his head down to my shoulder and smile really sweet. He just loves to be touched. He loves it when you pick him up and dance around with him. He start to giggle louder and louder and his smile reaches from ear to ear.

Justin does not always go to school because of blood transfusions. He is behind in each aspect compared to other children. Now he can go up and down stairs, can jump off the ground, can draw lines with holding pen, can draw circle, likes painting; knows “big and small”, “inside and outside”, “more and less” and “left and right”; recognize color of “red, yellow, blue, green, white and black”. He can count from 1 to 10, but does not know number because of not receiving regular education.

His general language ability – he is talkative and can communicate simply, like telling you where he goes but not clearly. At the aspect of self-management, he can eat alone, can go to the toilet, can put on and off the clothes and socks. He also is a good helper, likes helping the caretaker do things like fetching things, helping the younger children.

When getting dressed he needs help to determine the front/back of the clothing, help clasping the buttons, and tying his shoes. He does know how to put his shoes on on the right feet. His skills of washing and brushing his teeth need improvement. He is eating independently. He’s not the best at cleaning up after himself. He enjoys communicating with both children and adults and is quick to remember names. He often repeats sentences that adults have just said. He readily participates in the organized activity and positive emotions dominate. He does not choose the expedient activity, he opens and closes doors, he runs to the washroom to turn the water on. He enjoys looking at books. Music and dancing makes him happy, he enjoys singing and wants everyone to listen to his songs. He can be stubborn if there is something he does not want to do, he will need constant reminding, diversion, and help. He knows the parts of his body and face on himself, someone else, or on a doll.

This little boy does not have a moustache, the children were eating a snack just before their pictures were taken However, he does show strong facial features of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and the cleft palate and hydrocehalus are common conditions associated with this syndrome. ABItaichang–Severe Mental Developmental Delay, Mild Physical Disability, and Epilepsy

Cullen has been through WAY too many living situations and he needs a true *forever family*. The agency can provide more details on this for you.

Cullen was born prematurely at 32 weeks gestation and was kept alive on an incubator for 4 days. His birth mother reported that she used amphetamine weekly since 16 weeks gestation, but Cullen was not reported to have any withdrawal symptoms. Cullen was diagnosed with cerebral hypoplasia. The EEG report showed that his brain displayed electronic activity, but no abnormal findings were seen in the brain waves. Cullen was diagnosed with severe mental developmental delay, mild physical disability(lower extremities), and was suspected with autism but has no diagnosis. He is on medicine treatment for his epilepsy (Depakine, 4.5cc daily).

We saw Denis three different times at large group events at this orphanage, and he is a very cute little boy. He is small for his age, and he was in a wheelchair the times I saw him (that may have been just for transport). But he was alert and following what was going on (a puppet show once, and a musical performance another time) with real interest. He looked content and in a good mood every time we saw him.

Niles was born from first pregnancy and delivery and was born at 38 weeks, his weight at birth was 305g and height was 54cm. He scored 10/10 on APGAR. He was born with an asymmetric face, his left side of his face and his nose were pushed towards the right, due to pathologic position in the womb. The symptoms of irritability were noticed after his birth: increased muscle tonus, tremor, and when he cries his skin turns reddish. The blood test was done and the boy was diagnosed with polycithaemia, neonatal cerebral irritability. The state of the health of newborn was satisfactory, there were no observed complications.

Niles is quiet and struggles with jealousy. He willingly gets involved in educational activities but sometimes has trouble learning the materials. He does not know how to read. He enjoys drawing, moulding, folding, and making appliques. He likes imitative activities and can express everything and does so very well. He can draw himself, a mother, a home, and flowers, can you tell he wants a mother and home of his own? He plays computer games. He wants to play with other children very much but always wants to be the leader. He has good hygiene and is self sufficient. He communicates with his peers and adults willingly. He adapts easily in new surroundings. He thinks positively about himself. He struggles to express his own opinions.

Niles says he wants a mummy and daddy very much.

Callum was born prematurely during the 25th week of pregnancy weighing 1020g. His APGAR scores were 5-6. His health conditions after birth were complicated and included perinatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, intraventricular hemorrhage, and retinopathy of prematurity. In June 2007 he had an operation to correct his squint, he wears glasses now and no longer squints.

He is flat-footed and needs orthopedic shoes. His delays are present in all aspects of development. He has poor balance, has hand tremors, low muscle tonicity. He speaks using short words. His attention span is satisfactory.

Callum is a thinker, he takes time to think things through. He is a passive child. He eats independently. He can let you know when he needs to use the washroom. He can brush his teeth, gets dressed, buttons his clothing, and puts on his shoes independently. He needs a mommy to work with him to fully understand his colors and shapes. He does not currently have the motor control to write easily with a pencil or paint brush. His vocabulary in narrow and his speech is often unclear. He echos animal sounds and can say “thank you”, “bye” and “yes”. If being talked to, he answers most questions with head nodding. He enjoys playing alone and is stubborn. He is also very sensitive. He enjoys games where he gets to build and construct things. He also likes jig-saws. He willingly plays with musical toys. Struggles to control his behavior and emotions.

This young man has a deep mental delay, and cerebral palsy.

From a family who met him in 2011:

Sweet Francis needs a family. He does not currently sit up, but I think he probably could if he were given an opportunity to be out of his chair and get stronger. Overall, Francis seems to be physically healthy, aside from his CP. I suspect his cerebral palsy

affects his upper and lower body. He is very tight. More concerning is his emotional well being. Francis does not get much mental stimulation or interaction, outside of his immediate basic needs. The caregivers are kind and do love him, but are unsure what to do with him. He gets good basic care. He is fed and is clean. He is not left in a crib. He sits in his orange chair all day long. I tried to talk to Francis and touch him. He is very uncomfortable with touch, but he has the sweetest blue eyes and I know that the right family could draw this little boy out of his shell. Please someone, take a chance on Francis. He will thrive with the proper care and stimulation.

Eldon is described as sensitive, impulsive, and on the offensive. When he cries it takes him a long time to calm down. He seeks out contact from familiar adults, wants attention, and his cognitive communication is dominating. He avoids new surroundings and situations, he is careful with strangers, he will engage after getting to know someone. He does not communicate with children often. He will occasionally join in collective games, but he prefers to play alone. He especially likes blocks and cars as well as doing puzzles, mosaics, and constructing things.

It is recommended that he sees a cardiologist, speech therapist, and physical therapist once home.

Married couples: Must be married a minimum of 1 year. Program prefers that couples be married for at least 5 years, but exceptions can be made. Previous divorces are permitted. Single women can be accepted on a case by case basis.
There must be a 20 year age difference between parents and the child that they wish to adopt. Ideally, parents should be between the ages of 25-50, but parents over 50 will be considered on a case by case basis.
Travel requirements: One trip of 4-7 days. Only one parent has to travel. However, if only one parent travels, the child will enter on an IR-4 visa and readoption in the US will be required for citizenship. If both parents travel, the child enters on an IR-3 visa and citizenship is automatic upon arrival in the US.
Cost varies depending on the severity of the child’s special needs: $18,000-$26,000(siblings)

Autism

January 2010: Psychical and physical developmental delays. He cannot name colors, geometrical shapes, and he does not understand the concepts of size and amount. He is not interested in toys and does not play with them. He gets aggitated when someone lightly provokes him. He does not participate in general children activities. Stereotypical movements are noticed (swinging, swaying, rocking). Phonemic hearing is not developed, his audion perception is delayed, speech pronunctiation delays, and his vocabulary is narrow. His balance and coordination are delayed.

Hayden is active and curious, he is interested in his surroundings. His comprehensive language is limited, he speaks using the sentences of two-four words. He often repeats the heard word several times. He likes active games and active activities, however he prefers to play alone. He likes singing, dancing, and enjoys musical activities. He struggles to communicate, collaborate, and play with peers. He has trouble paying attention. He has no interest in toys and prefers playing with things like a tape-recorder, tv, electrical switch, etc. He does not know his colors. He could be characterized as quite impatient and impulsive. Independence skills are under developed. He eats independently, he needs help from an adult to dress and undress and to do all hygienic tasks. He seeks out attention from adults in various manners. He likes helping in daily chores by dusting, wiping off the table, and tidying the toys. He cannot express his opinion.

Brody and Auggie

From someone who met Brody in 2011 and Auggie in 2012:

Brody and Auggie are sweet little boys who appear to have some sort of genetic disorder that causes developmental delays and self-harming behaviors. They are not aggressive towards others, only towards themselves, and these behaviors can be halted temporarily by picking either boy up and spinning him around. Brody is able to walk, and can drink from a cup without help. He is not quite able to feed himself, but is willing to try. Auggie was in a laying room for over a year, but after only 3 months of physical therapy is now sitting independently and working on learning to stand. Both boys have wonderful, heart stealing smiles. Brody appears to be in his own world much of the time, and loves things that crinkle or light up, and things shaped like sticks, as well as hands, gloves, feet and socks. He shows numerous signs of autism, which may or may not be environmental. Auggie loves things that crinkle or light up, slinkies, music, and tv. He is more interactive than Brody, and appears to lift his arms up to indicate he would like to be held. This is the only form of communication I observed from either of the boys. The boys are currently living in separate orphanages. I pray a family will reunite these brothers together in one family, where they can receive all the love and attention they need to meet their full potential!

We hope a family will consider adopting them TOGETHER.

Significant delay in development. of pre-speech, nourishment skills, and motor development. He eagerly participates in contact with both children and adults. He seeks out love and attentions from adults. He participates actively in various games and other activities. He talks in his own language and does not correctly pronounce any words. He sucks his finger. He tends to sway his body. He responds to one word orders such as “Come”, “Take” and “Give”. He explores and shows interest in certain things. He is walking with assistance. Troy has been transferred to the local Internat. He is listed as having a mild mental delay. (His eyes look odd here because of the red eye reduction used on the photograph.)

Troy does not speak, but understands speech addressed to him.

Troy could be adopted with Sammy and Garrett.

From a family who met him in 2012:
The profile says he is non-verbal and that is true, he did not talk at all while I was there. However he was extremely gentle, kind, and had a very sweet demeanor. I took bubbles one day and all the kids mobbed me wanting to play, Troy just stood there patiently smiling at me and waiting his turn. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile on his face. He would sit next to me at the table and would stare very sweetly at me and when I would make eye contact he would put his arms out to give me a hug. I do not know about his cognitive ability because I just did not get to spend enough time with him but he did understand the instructions he was given by his teacher and care taker at the boarding school with no problems, obeying them and following all their instructions (with a smile on his face). Physically he had no problems. I do not know if his lack of speech is due to trauma or an actual inability to form words. I will absolutely never forget how gentle and loving he was, he lives to be hugged and he loved what little one-on-one attention I was able to give him. He was so patient and kind to the other kids. A family would be blessed to have this precious boy as their son!

It has been suggested that his ‘goloproentsephaliy’ may actually be holoprosencephaly like Catherine 9HA, but it would be a milder form than hers i.e. lobar or semi-lobar holoprosencephaly, rather than alobar.

Dean is a shy 9 year old boy who was found and brought to the institute when he was 5 years old. Since admission, Dean has improved his motor skills and intellectual development. At 5 years of age, could go up and down stairs. At age 6, he could run slowly and recognize the difference between males and females. At age 7, Dean is fully toilet trained and says thank you when given things. He learned how to do simple chores at age 8, and could do basic self-management by age 9.
