Ruthie

I have a miracle makerRuthieGirl, born 2014
PRC
Down syndrome

Ruthie will be two in just a few weeks and it sounds like she is so loved by her nannies!

Ruthie is lively, lovely and restless who loves laughing and crawling everywhere. She can grasp the toy trolley and push it forward and also turn to look at nanny from time to time, because she wants to know if she is being watched; if the nanny is looking at her, she will raise her hands very happily and make a bye gesture or push the toy trolley more quickly; sometimes, she would fall down, but as soon as the nanny hugs her and comforts her, she would laugh immediately. She likes listening to music, and she can imitate the actions of clapping hands, shaking head and also will laugh whenever hearing the familiar children’s song. She cannot sit down for a long time, and she likes climbing onto the table top. Every time, when the nanny puts her onto the chair, she would climb onto the table top while the nanny is not looking at her and giggles to express that she has climbed onto and show her great ability.

Ruthie has a $6500 agency specific grant with her current agency.

Adele

PRC
Down syndrome, Congenital Heart Defect

Adele is a sweet little girl who was estimated to be born in January of 2015. She was abandoned when she was about 9 days old and was diagnosed with Down syndrome and a heart defect (PFO). Although her caregivers describe her as introverted and fond of quiet time, she is affectionate and loves to be cuddled! She can hold up her head while lying on her stomach and roll over, though she cannot yet sit upright or crawl. She can easily follow the directions of sounds and voices, and will quietly listen to music when she hears it.

Agency staff were able to meet her in May of 2015 and described her as a happy baby who interacted well with her caregiver. Her caregiver reported that she sleeps well at night and has a good appetite. We have updated videos and a photo of her from our trip for interested families! Jaya

JayaGirl, born 2014
PRC
Down syndrome, congenital heart defect

Jaya is an adorable little girl with a sweet face!  During her first year of life, her growth was delayed in comparison to same-age peers. Her caregivers describe her as introverted and she prefers quiet time. She loves being cuddled by her favorite caregiver, and can distinguish her from other caregivers who are less familiar to her. She can hold up her head while lying on her stomach, although she cannot yet crawl or sit upright. She can babble sounds like “nai nai” and her caregivers describe her as easy to smile! She can be very attentive to where she can follow the direction of sounds and voices, and can visually follow moving toys—she’ll even reach out grab toys nearby. WACAP staff met with her in May of 2015 and reported that she was relaxed and had a good connection with her caregiver; she makes good eye contact when interacting with others! She has soft muscle tone and needs extra support of her head and neck when being held. We have several updated photos and videos from our trip for interested families!

Emma was born at 38 weeks gestation via C-section in September 2015 and had an APGAR score of 7/8.  Emma’s heart is healthy, her hearing is normal, and her muscle tone is good. The staff at Emma’s orphanage are very happy with her development. Emma has head control and pulls up to sit.

Update July 2016:  Emma has learned to roll from tummy to back and vice versa. She reaches for toys, holds them and plays with them as well as brings objects to her mouth.  She kicks and pushes herself out of her chair.  When asked what Emma does, her caretakers respond, “She does it all!”

Update September 2016: Emma continues to be a happy and active child who coos and says two syllable words.  She recognizes familiar adults and reacts accordingly.  Emma like to be on the floor where she rolls over easily, plays with balls and other toys, and interacts with other children.  New video shows that Emma can now sit independently as well.
