Charlotte

charlotte (2)evelyn2Girl, born August 2014
PRC
Down syndrome

Listed: May 20, 2016

The agency’s team met Charlotte! It never ceases to amaze me how different it is to write an advocacy post after you have met a child! Let me tell you about Charlotte now that we have met her and seen this cuteness in person!

Charlotte is 2. She has Down syndrome and CHD. And she is the cutest, sweetest, silliest little 2 year old girl you could hope to meet!

She is walking by herself and really aced all of our little developmental things we do with little ones. She scribbles and stacks blocks and she is all about the baby puffs! Believe me, she can grab them and get those things to her mouth no problem!

She understands simple commands, though her caregiver pointed out that she also likes to pick and choose which of those commands she actually follows. She is 2, after all.  There was a whole group of little ones in the room with her and the caregivers were singing little songs with them and doing hand motions. She was right in there doing the motions! So, so cute!

Charlotte has a $4,000 grant through her current agency. Please spread the word and let’s get this little one home!

Down syndrome

Ruthie will be two in just a few weeks and it sounds like she is so loved by her nannies!

Listed: July 2016

Ruthie is lively, lovely and restless who loves laughing and crawling everywhere. She can grasp the toy trolley and push it forward and also turn to look at nanny from time to time, because she wants to know if she is being watched; if the nanny is looking at her, she will raise her hands very happily and make a bye gesture or push the toy trolley more quickly; sometimes, she would fall down, but as soon as the nanny hugs her and comforts her, she would laugh immediately. She likes listening to music, and she can imitate the actions of clapping hands, shaking head and also will laugh whenever hearing the familiar children’s song. She cannot sit down for a long time, and she likes climbing onto the table top. Every time, when the nanny puts her onto the chair, she would climb onto the table top while the nanny is not looking at her and giggles to express that she has climbed onto and show her great ability.

Adele

Adele is a sweet little girl who was estimated to be born in January of 2015. She was abandoned when she was about 9 days old and was diagnosed with Down syndrome and a heart defect (PFO). She can hold up her head while lying on her stomach and roll over, though she cannot yet sit upright or crawl. She can easily follow the directions of sounds and voices, and will quietly listen to music when she hears it.

Agency staff were able to meet her in May of 2015 and described her as a happy baby who interacted well with her caregiver. Her caregiver reported that she sleeps well at night and has a good appetite. We have updated videos and a photo of her from our trip for interested families! She can hold up her head while lying on her stomach, although she cannot yet crawl or sit upright. She can babble sounds like “nai nai” and her caregivers describe her as easy to smile! She can be very attentive to where she can follow the direction of sounds and voices, and can visually follow moving toys—she’ll even reach out grab toys nearby. Emma Joy

emma-joyemma-joy2Girl, born 2014
PRC
Down syndrome
When Emma Joy first entered her orphanage she had a poor appetite so the caretakers needed to give her extra care by offering smaller meals more frequently. At the age of 1.5 years old she could sit on a bed and play with a toy alone and could walk anywhere in the room with a walker. At the time of her report she was 20 months old and able to understand what adults were saying to her. She could play hide-and-seek, say “mom,” and could express “goodbye” by waving her hands. She had a ready smile and her favorite activity was walking around in her walker. She was very curious and would look for other children playing. When the weather is nice caretakers took her outside to play. When she hears music she will stop whatever she is doing to figure out where it’s coming from. She enjoys music and wiggles her body to the rhythm.

Emma Joy can crawl on her hands and knees, pick up small objects with her fingers and scribble with a pen. When playing with blocks she was able to bang them together and put in and take out of a cup. She understood what “no” meant and could respond to others asking her for things. She was cooperative with dressing and fond of playing games.

Emma Joy was described as an active and cute little girl that all the caretakers love. Her favorite toys are dolls and a musical box.
