Charlotte

Down syndrome

Listed: May 20, 2016

The agency’s team met Charlotte! It never ceases to amaze me how different it is to write an advocacy post after you have met a child! Let me tell you about Charlotte now that we have met her and seen this cuteness in person!

Charlotte is 2. She has Down syndrome and CHD. And she is the cutest, sweetest, silliest little 2 year old girl you could hope to meet!

She is walking by herself and really aced all of our little developmental things we do with little ones. She scribbles and stacks blocks and she is all about the baby puffs! Believe me, she can grab them and get those things to her mouth no problem!

She understands simple commands, though her caregiver pointed out that she also likes to pick and choose which of those commands she actually follows. She is 2, after all.  There was a whole group of little ones in the room with her and the caregivers were singing little songs with them and doing hand motions. She was right in there doing the motions! So, so cute!

Charlotte has a $4,000 grant through her current agency. Please spread the word and let’s get this little one home!

Additional information and photos can be found in this blog post.

Ruthie will be two in just a few weeks and it sounds like she is so loved by her nannies!

Listed: July 2016

Ruthie is lively, lovely and restless who loves laughing and crawling everywhere. She can grasp the toy trolley and push it forward and also turn to look at nanny from time to time, because she wants to know if she is being watched; if the nanny is looking at her, she will raise her hands very happily and make a bye gesture or push the toy trolley more quickly; sometimes, she would fall down, but as soon as the nanny hugs her and comforts her, she would laugh immediately. She likes listening to music, and she can imitate the actions of clapping hands, shaking head and also will laugh whenever hearing the familiar children’s song. She cannot sit down for a long time, and she likes climbing onto the table top. Every time, when the nanny puts her onto the chair, she would climb onto the table top while the nanny is not looking at her and giggles to express that she has climbed onto and show her great ability.

New pic January 2017!

UPDATE 2017:  Two and a half year old Nika is waiting for her forever family.  She is a lovely little girl who has Down Syndrome. She can crawl and walk freely. Nika can speak simple words, and loves music, playing with dolls and mirrors. She is closest to her caregivers and the other children she shares her room with. Nika is quiet and sweet with a ready smile. I have been praying for Nika that she will have her forever home soon. I believe in miracles that God will lead a forever family to her.

Nika is an adorable little girl who has just turned 2 years old! She arrived at the orphanage when she was about 4 months old, having been found at a coal yard. Nika has Down syndrome, with no known heart or other health issues. While her development is delayed, as expected, her overall development is good. She has good fine motor skills, and at the time of her report (August 2015) she was able to say several words. Nika was crawling at 13 months of age. Nika loves to look at herself in a mirror. She will pat her reflection, and touch her head to the mirror. Nika loves dolls, and enjoys playing with her nanny and the other kids in her room. Nika is a delightful and loving little one, who waits for her very own family!

Jaya is an adorable little girl with a sweet face!  During her first year of life, her growth was delayed in comparison to same-age peers. Her caregivers describe her as introverted and she prefers quiet time. She loves being cuddled by her favorite caregiver, and can distinguish her from other caregivers who are less familiar to her. She can hold up her head while lying on her stomach, although she cannot yet crawl or sit upright. She can babble sounds like “nai nai” and her caregivers describe her as easy to smile! She can be very attentive to where she can follow the direction of sounds and voices, and can visually follow moving toys—she’ll even reach out grab toys nearby. WACAP staff met with her in May of 2015 and reported that she was relaxed and had a good connection with her caregiver; she makes good eye contact when interacting with others! She has soft muscle tone and needs extra support of her head and neck when being held. We have several updated photos and videos from our trip for interested families!
