Alan-update2Boy, born January 2010
PRC
Down syndrome

Alan just turned three years old, and although he can stand by himself and crawl all over the furniture, he is not quite yet able to walk. His foster father has been taking him on tricycle rides to strengthen his legs and improve his balance. Alan seems to be enjoying himself immensely!

Alan-update

Alan is speaking some family words such as “mama,”, “uncle,” and “sister” and is learning his colors and how to build a tower. Also, Alan can turn the pages of a book and is quite curious. Based on our reports, we can just imagine this handsome little guy snuggling on the lap of a mom or dad of his very own and read book after book. He will surely be a happy addition to some very lucky family!

Update 2014:
Alan has truly blossomed! He is very smart and also very clever! With his foster mother’s assistance he can count to ten; she is also teaching him colors and shapes. With his new found knowledge, Alan believes he is now a teacher and he can often be found teaching his younger foster sister a school lesson.

One of Alan’s favorite things to do is to play outside. Although he wishes to play outside everyday, he knows when it rains he has to stay inside and always lets his foster mother know this. Alan has great physical strength and he can run and jump. His favorite game to play is hide and seek. Alan is also a little ham and whenever the camera comes out, he will stop what he is doing and pose. He also has some pretty impressive dance moves. As soon as the music starts playing he will start dancing by shaking his hips.

Down syndrome, congenital heart defect

Kent is an adorable baby boy who is just 1 year old! He came into care when he was 4 months old, and they began working with him immediately to strengthen his muscles. Kent has Down syndrome, and a VSD (6mm) with left atrium enlargement. He may require a surgical procedure to plug the ASD. Kent’s development is delayed, as would be expected. When he turned 1 year old, he was not yet sitting alone, or crawling. He will need more time, and attention, before he masters these milestones.

Kent is a precious baby boy. He is very alert, and very engaging. His receptive language is very good, and he is beginning to make sounds to communicate with the nannies. His favorite activity is listening to music and being hugged. I cannot argue with that! Kent needs a family to love him, and help him reach his full potential. This sweet boy is waiting for you!

Nolan Photo 4 - Jan-2014Adorable Nolan was born in April 2010 and has Down Syndrome. He also has a congenital heart defect.

Nolan is a sociable child who enjoys playing with toys. He can cruise along stable support and is quite a little climber. Even though Nolan does not yet speak, he understands instructions. He likes moving to music, eats well and sleeps soundly.

Update Oct 2014:
From a family who met Nolan in October 2014: Nolan is an active little boy and very interested in the happenings in his environment. When we visited his room with our son who used to live there, he instantly tried to interact with our son who had crawled into the playpen with the other kids plus Nolan was watching what we were doing as well. Nolan cannot yet walk, but sits, stands, crawls, and cruises. He eats and sleeps well. Nolan still uses diapers, but his caretakers know his typical bathroom times and put him on the potty for them. When I picked up Nolan, he made wonderful eye contact with me and I heard him babble different sound combinations. His caretakers told me he is a kind child who enjoys and seeks physical affection and attention from others.

Alaric 2015 (1) Alaric 2015 (2)Boy, born 2009
Down syndrome

Alaric has delays in psycho-motor development. Senses(sight, hearing) are preserved. Alaric can not walk alone, he bears a short distance, leaning on solid objects. He makes steps forward with the support from an adult. He can sit stable. He gets up holding something for support. Alaric reaches for toys and holds them. Tries to play with them for a while. Trying to separate the index finger from the other fingers when playing simple games. Sways to the rhythm of familiar children’s songs. Listens to speech. Pronounces separate syllables, but not meaningful words. Alaric can distinguish familiar from unfamiliar people. He reacts with joy to contact and quickly involves in the proposed game. He prefers communicating with an adult than playing with other children or handling toys. In an emotional aspect the child is calm, with a serene, cheerful mood. With regard to his physiological needs – feeding, dressing and undressing, hygiene, the child is dependent on adults.

UPDATE 2015:

Alaric was moved to a family style group home 6 months ago and has made significant progress in this new setting. He is now receiving more personalized attention from staff. While Alaric is still not walking, the director believes that this is due simply to his stubborn insistence to crawl, as he can walk while holding on to one hand of a caregiver. To help him become more independent, the staff introduced a wheelchair and Alaric has learned to maneuver the wheelchair to get where he wants to go. A physical therapist will begin intensive work on teaching him to walk in the coming months.

The staff reports that Alaric has become more expressive and confident since moving into the group home. They are working with him on learning self-help skills such as feeding himself and dressing himself.

Down syndrome

Prince lives with a foster family, and is currently available for adoption.

Families interested in adopting special needs children from EE-5 should submit a letter of introduction to the Central Authority through the adoption agency in order to request more information on the available children. The Ministry has agreed to send additional information and a photo of any child the family wishes to adopt. The agency will help each family to prepare the letter and will forward it to EE-5. The Agency’s representative will translate and submit the letter of introduction to the Ministry. As soon as the Ministry responds, the Agency will forward the information on the child to the family. We welcome the opportunity to help you find the child the Lord has prepared for your family.

Heinrich

HeinrichBoy, born 2009

Down syndrome, specific mixed developmental disorder, features of autism, farsightedness, atopic dermatitis, functional heart murmur, hydrocephalus. Due to a difficult birth, he was born with pneumonia, and intubated for a few days.

From a family who met him in 2015:  “Heinrich ran right up to me and asked to go up, and then enjoyed a play session full of jumping. He definitely has a lot of energy, and I was amazed at his gross motor skills. He loved the play area’s rocking horse!”

UPDATE as of June 2015:  Heinrich continues to make great improvements. He is communicating and asked to be picked up. He is strong, happy, and loves attention.

Update as of April 2013:  His development is delayed; he recently started to walk without help, but not yet steady. Emotions are weak, play activity is primitive, throws away toys, turns them around, puts into the mouth, sucks his fingers, makes stereotypic movements with his head, swings.

He’s not yet speaking, and it’s possible he has a hearing delay.  He eats with help, does not yet holds a spoon or the bottle, still it is hard for him to chew a hard food. The level of understanding is low, does not have motivation to make an activity.

JaydenBoy, born March 2012
PRC
Down syndrome

Jayden is an adorable little boy who turned 3 in March. He has been in care since he was a baby and is in a foster home. Jayden has Down syndrome, with no known heart issues or other health issues. His gross and fine motor skills are very good; he was walking and able to climb stairs when he turned 2. Jayden is toilet trained during the day, and wears a diaper at night just in case (as of a year ago…he may be finished with the night diaper by now). He is shorter than his peers, and is not a good eater, they say. His report states he has indigestion sometimes, and is easy to overheat. Jayden’s receptive speech is good, but he has been slow to talk. Not at all unexpected, but speech therapy will likely help. Jayden is a sweet, loving, and very social little boy. He loves to play with phones, stack blocks, and play with any toy he can push. He will be a wonderful addition to your family!
