Larry #2-4

Larry collageBoy, age 4
Diagnosis: Down syndrome

Listed: July 25, 2016

Larry has Down syndrome and some of the typical delays that are common with his diagnosis. He is not yet walking independently, though his report indicates it is because he refuses to practice when he doesn’t want to! He plays with toys and enjoys the ones that play with music. When the staff attempts to work with him on fine motor skills, once he realizes it is ‘work”, he refuses to comply. He is not yet using words, but he IS communicating through non-verbal means. He needs a family that will bring him home and teach him appropriate communication skills and work with him on that all too common “Down syndrome stubborn streak” to help him continue to develop new skills.

The agency’s team visited Levron for the third time in April. We glanced at this paperwork then looked a little closer. It was his 3rd birthday! So we sang, and Levron got 2 packages of fruit snacks rather than the standard 1 package per child.

My favorite memory of Levron from the April trip is how much he loved looking at himself in the mirror! He looked and giggled and kissed himself then looked at himself again. It was just too adorable! Another thing that brought peals of laughter from him was playing peek-a-boo! And his laugh is so cute! We couldn’t help laughing with him!

Levron was sooooo close to walking when we met him! He stacked cups for us and really loved looking at books. He babbles but isn’t saying words yet.

When he turned 1 year old, he was not yet sitting alone, or crawling. He will need more time, and attention, before he masters these milestones.

Kent is a precious baby boy. He is very alert, and very engaging. His receptive language is very good, and he is beginning to make sounds to communicate with the nannies. Nicholas

Nicholas June 2016NicholasBoy, born May 2011

Down syndrome

Nicholas was born in May of 2011.   His physical development is on target.   He is able to sit up, stand and is able to walk holding onto furniture.   He is very active and likes to play with toys and other children.  Nicholas is also very observant; when someone is playing with other kids of his group, he watches them very attentively as if wanting to take part in it.  He has been seen playing with one of the other boys in his group, they giggle and talk in their own little language, as if they know exactly what the other is saying.  In general, Nicholas is a serious child, but if you make him smile he smiles.  He currently eats and sleeps well.

Update February 2014:  Nicholas is an active and very sweet boy. He likes to run around and gladly plays with toys and other children. He eats and sleeps well. Though non-verbal at this time, Nicholas is described as a very responsive child who understands everything that is said to him and follows instructions. His nannies adore him.

Nicholas is special friends with another little boy in his group; they giggle and communicate in their own private language, as if they know exactly what the other is saying.

Update June 2016: Nicholas was transferred to a different orphanage where he now shows a lot of aggression.  He walks and eats independently, is potty-trained, and understands what is said to him.Nicholas continues to be non-verbal.

Nicholas would thrive in a loving family.   Photos, videos and additional reports are available upon request from the agency.

Down syndrome and missing fingers on left hand

From a family who met him:  “Sweet Olivier! I had so much fun with him when I was in his orphanage and am saddened that his family hasn’t found him yet. This little guy was just incredible!!! Oliver was born in March of 2011 and completely stole my heart. This little boy has Down Syndrome and a partial left hand. As the mother of a child with a similar limb difference I can tell you missing a few fingers isn’t going to slow Oliver down at all! Just by spending a few hours with him I got the feeling he is a very bright and curious little boy. He even tried to imitate me speaking English by repeating the word “book.” You can see for yourself by clicking watching this video:http://vimeo.com/78018326
