Nicholas

NicholasNicholas Photo 3 rec. 1-22-13-croppedBoy, born May 2011

Down syndrome

Nicholas was born in May of 2011.   His physical development is on target.   He is able to sit up, stand and is able to walk holding onto furniture.   He is very active and likes to play with toys and other children.  Nicholas is also very observant; when someone is playing with other kids of his group, he watches them very attentively as if wanting to take part in it.  He has been seen playing with one of the other boys in his group, they giggle and talk in their own little language, as if they know exactly what the other is saying.  In general, Nicholas is a serious child, but if you make him smile he smiles.  He currently eats and sleeps well.

Update February 2014:

Nicholas is an active and very sweet boy. He likes to run around and gladly plays with toys and other children. He eats and sleeps well. Though non-verbal at this time, Nicholas is described as a very responsive child who understands everything that is said to him and follows instructions. His nannies adore him.

Nicholas is special friends with another little boy in his group; they giggle and communicate in their own private language, as if they know exactly what the other is saying.

Nicholas would thrive in a loving family.

Quentin

Quentin update 2013 (5)Quentin (1)

Boy, born December 2008

PRC
Down syndrome, heart defect (acleistocardia)

Oh my, what a cutie!  Love his fuzzy hair!

Quentin has Down syndrome, but is otherwise healthy!

From a family who met Quentin in 2012:
We were able to meet him when we visited our son’s first foster home.  The foster home is wonderful and the children are very well cared for and LOVED!!  I was told that he has made great progress since a new caregiver arrived from the states.  She absolutely adores him and was trying to hold back tears as she thanked me for coming and trying to find a family for him.  The past few months he has begun seeking out attention of her, interacting more with the other children, taking more interest in toys and pulling up to a standing position.  He loves being held and is adorable.

Video and additional pictures available for potential families.

UPDATE spring 2013:
Last time I saw Quentin was in early March and he was doing GREAT! I am so proud of his progress over the past year and a half. Not only is he walking steadily, but also making progress figuring out and doing things on his own, for example, climbing up the stairs to the slide and sliding down, stacking up chairs and stools to get in and out of his bed on his own. In the past the only noises he would make was to cry when he was sad or mad (which is rarely) but last time I saw him he was making noises like baby talk which to me was a good sign that he is wanting to try and talk/communicate…imitating noises, etc. He is also more and more affectionate and loving…coming up behind you to steal hugs and kisses.

He’s a treasure, and I can’t WAIT for some family to find him and take him home! He is SO smart and SO ready to have a family of his own!

Christian

Christian Photo 7 May-2013Boy, Born April 2009

Down syndrome, CHD

Sweet Christian was born in April of 2009 with Down syndrome and a heart condition.  He is a happy and fun little guy.   Christian is active, attentive, gives lots of smiles and loved very much by his caregivers.   He enjoys watching television, listening to music, playing with toys and eating cookies! Additional photos and video are available from the agency.

Update from January 22, 2013: Christian is able to walk, is very active and likes to dance. He is able to say various words but he cannot speak in sentences. Christian is described as very kind, friendly, shy and sensitive. He also enjoys listening to music and knows many songs by heart. He is smart and knows how to play many different games. Christian knows different characters from various cartoons and sometimes asks for a certain cartoon to watch. He is able to eat by himself, except for soup, as he sometimes makes a little bit of a mess!

Update May 2013: After visiting with Christian in May, our agency representative had the following update. Christian can walk independently now. He speaks (although his words are a little unclear). He answers the questions, e:g: where is “Neal” (he knows all children) or how are you, completes simple requests. He has become very active and very joyful. The Orphanage Director says that he is very smart and very kind. Our in-country representative feels that the family who adopts Christian will be blessed. At present he is healthy and in a good mood.

Corban

Corban-001Boy born March, 2009
PRC
Down syndrome

Corban’s physical capacity and mental development are delayed comparatively, due to his Down syndrome. As he grows older he has learned to roll over, crawl, stand by holding onto supports and walk by holding onto rails. Now he can walk forward with one of his hands led, he can distinguish familiar people and strangers. Seeing familiar people he can smile and greet them. He knows to be cooperative when dressed, give the clothes when asked, is a lovely little boy.

Corban is gentle, quiet, has a ready smile. He has Down syndrome, but it does not influence his happy life. He likes to play with toys, listen to music, can wave arms following rhythms which looks very adorable. He is willing to play games with kids, likes toys making sound, will laugh aloud when playing happily. Seeing strangers he will cry noisily because of being unfamiliar with them in the beginning. He can play with you gradually, is integrated into the games you bring to him, is a sensible good child!

Alan

Alan-update2Boy, born January 2010
PRC
Down syndrome

Alan just turned three years old, and although he can stand by himself and crawl all over the furniture, he is not quite yet able to walk. His foster father has been taking him on tricycle rides to strengthen his legs and improve his balance. Alan seems to be enjoying himself immensely!

Alan-update

Alan is speaking some family words such as “mama,”, “uncle,” and “sister” and is learning his colors and how to build a tower. Also, Alan can turn the pages of a book and is quite curious. Based on our reports, we can just imagine this handsome little guy snuggling on the lap of a mom or dad of his very own and read book after book. He will surely be a happy addition to some very lucky family!

Update 2014:
Alan has truly blossomed! He is very smart and also very clever! With his foster mother’s assistance he can count to ten; she is also teaching him colors and shapes. With his new found knowledge, Alan believes he is now a teacher and he can often be found teaching his younger foster sister a school lesson.

One of Alan’s favorite things to do is to play outside. Although he wishes to play outside everyday, he knows when it rains he has to stay inside and always lets his foster mother know this. Alan has great physical strength and he can run and jump. His favorite game to play is hide and seek. Alan is also a little ham and whenever the camera comes out, he will stop what he is doing and pose. He also has some pretty impressive dance moves. As soon as the music starts playing he will start dancing by shaking his hips.

Update as of April 2013:  His development is delayed; he recently started to walk without help, but not yet steady. Emotions are weak, play activity is primitive, throws away toys, turns them around, puts into the mouth, sucks his fingers, makes stereotypic movements with his head, swings.

He’s not yet speaking, and it’s possible he has a hearing delay.  He eats with help, does not yet holds a spoon or the bottle, still it is hard for him to chew a hard food. The level of understanding is low, does not have motivation to make an activity.

Nolan

Nolan Photo 4 - Jan-2014Adorable Nolan was born in April 2010 and has Down Syndrome. He also has a congenital heart defect.

Nolan is a sociable child who enjoys playing with toys. He can cruise along stable support and is quite a little climber. Even though Nolan does not yet speak, he understands instructions. He likes moving to music, eats well and sleeps soundly.

Update Oct 2014:
From a family who met Nolan in October 2014: Nolan is an active little boy and very interested in the happenings in his environment. When we visited his room with our son who used to live there, he instantly tried to interact with our son who had crawled into the playpen with the other kids plus Nolan was watching what we were doing as well. Nolan cannot yet walk, but sits, stands, crawls, and cruises. He eats and sleeps well. Nolan still uses diapers, but his caretakers know his typical bathroom times and put him on the potty for them. When I picked up Nolan, he made wonderful eye contact with me and I heard him babble different sound combinations. His caretakers told me he is a kind child who enjoys and seeks physical affection and attention from others.
