BRIA and SAFIYA for the Johnson family — TX

SafiyaThe Johnsons have been married for 22 years and have nine children. The Lord has blessed us with nine children through birth and adoption. They believe all children are a blessing from the Lord, regardless of abilities each one of us are created the image of God. Every person is precious and loved by the Lord.

They view adoption as a gift from God. Our Savior, Jesus, was adopted! God sent Jesus to Earth to be born to an unwed virgin. Joseph was a righteous man and he married Mary and adopted Jesus as his own son. We think it is totally cool and love sharing with our adopted children what they have in common with Jesus. … Also Moses and Samuel!

In 2011, they became acquainted with Reece’s Rainbow and adopted three children from Ukraine. See their “Already Home” profile here http://reecesrainbow.org/sponsorjohnson.

They are excited to welcome “Bria” and “Safiya” into their family.

Would you pray for the Johnson Family and consider a financial donation to help them get their girls home?

PRISCILLA for the Einfeld family — WA

PriscillaDaryl and Ruth have been married since 1985, after a 4 year friendship. They have 12 biological children, ages 26 down to 1 year old, 10 of whom are still living at home. Their 4 yo daughter, Esther, has Down syndrome and is such a blessing to their family. Ruth runs a home business selling cloth diapers and training pants, which focuses on products for children, youth and adults with special needs, so this has allowed her many contacts to other families with children who have special needs. Last year, Ruth discovered Reece’s Rainbow. Last spring she began to advocate for children and families there. But the desire to help these children took a deeper root in her heart, and the thought of adopting began to take root. After much discussion, research and prayer as a family they decided it was time to step out in faith and attempt to adopt a little one with Down syndrome. They have learned so much through their journey with Esther, and they want to use this experience to bless another little one by bringing that child into their home and giving them a forever family.

After coming across Reece’s Rainbow and scrolling through the pictures, Kallie felt the tug on her heart and suggested the idea of special needs adoption to Lance. He agreed that he felt the Lord calling them to adopt. After looking through the pictures and profiles on Reece’s Rainbow together, they came across a sweet girl named Jessa. They committed to bringing her home and were in the home study process when the ban in Russia came into law. MAX for the McAninch family — ID

Max (2)The McAninch family is pretty ordinary by most standards, but they feel that God has blessed them from the beginning. Guy and Tammy were married in 2009, and have two boys, Liam is 3 and Eli just turned 1. Out of a strong desire to share their blessings with children who need a loving home, Guy and Tammy pursued training as foster/adoptive parents in the State of Idaho, and have since had the opportunity to care for troubled children who had temporary needs. They found this experience to be life-changing and rewarding, as their foster children were gradually able to return to their homes, with renewed hope. After having gained much wisdom from their experience, and after much prayer, Guy and Tammy are certain that now is the time for them to pursue their desire to adopt a child who will be a permanent part of their family. They know that this journey will bring challenges and adjustments; but their family is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of God’s children — and in particular, Max, who they hope to give a home, a family and a better life.

If you are able to help them bring him home, even the smallest donation will make a difference. They also appreciate your prayers, as they ask the Lord to bless their endeavors, for His glory.

AIDEN and NASH for the Killen family — AL

IMG_4137Asa and Katherine Killen of Huntsville, Alabama are walking by faith and following what the Lord has called them to do. They met when Asa was only 15 and Katherine was 16. From the very beginning they put God first. They were married December 9th, 2006. They were later blessed with two gorgeous little girls, Zoe and Piper. Katherine is also an adopted child; her and Asa knew from day one that adoption was in their future. They were blessed enough to meet some Ukrainian orphans at their church one Sunday; they touched their hearts in more ways than they could have ever dreamed possible. They went home that night and prayed. Katherine then found herself searching through websites that had pictures of waiting children. They, honestly, had no intentions of pursuing an adoption any time soon. They had always been in the mindset of, “Maybe when our girls are out of high school we will adopt” or ” Perhaps in a few years …”. Then Katherine came across Aidens picture on a web site and she instantly knew, without a doubt, that he was meant to be their son. They felt the Lord whisper assurance into their hearts and they formed an instant love for this little boy. He was their son, no questions asked. At the time they were unaware of all his special needs but it didn’t matter; they knew they would love him, accept him, and praise God for him…sight unseen. They knew they had to “trust and obey” so they started their home study and prayed for Aiden. They later came across his picture again on Reeces Rainbow and that was it…they knew they would do whatever it took to get him home.

John 14:18 “I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you..”

It’s amazing how God can change your heart and call you to love someone you have never met. They want nothing more than to be his parents…to love him, comfort him, help him, support him, and raise him to walk in Gods light. He is PERFECT; just the way he is.

“We are the lucky ones; to be blessed with such an amazing child. Praise God for this sweet sweet boy…”
- Katherine and Asa Killen

MORGAN and JOLIE for the Anderson family — MO

20723092832 Morgan-cropped30203204135 JolieDane and Misty have been married for 20 years, and have 9 children. They always knew they would have a large family, it was a frequent topic during their dating months! Misty was adopted as an infant and always felt she would mother an adopted child. She found Reeces Rainbow after following a link from a blog. As she read about the children and their desperate need for homes she felt completely undone. After discussing it with Dane they felt the time just wasn’t right for their family to adopt. Misty would let herself go on Reeces Rainbow every so often, to pray for the little ones listed there, wondering when the time would be right. Just a few short weeks ago she approached Dane asking him to pray about it and see if now would be the right time. Dane prayed and looked at the children with Misty and felt the Lord tell him, yes!

They are very excited about adding Morgan and Jolie to their family! The 6 boys and 3 girls are anxious to have 2 new sisters to add to the joyful chaos!

JACOB for the Kroll family — MI

Ben & Jen met in 1994, became high school sweethearts, and married in 1998. He works as a retail assistant store manager and she is a stay at home mom and artist. They have five great kids: Katlyn 15, Andrew 13, Emily 11, Faith 10, and Leanna 10 (yes twins!). When pregnancy complications became too risky, it became clear that to grow their family it would have to be through adoption. Over the years it became Jen’s deepest desire of her heart to be able to help orphans, especially those with special needs. After a few more years of prayer and hard work, God provided the larger home that they would need. He also provided the resources and support that they would need to adopt a child with special needs. In the fall of 2012 Jen found Reece’s Rainbow. As she looked through the profiles, one grabbed her heart, and she started thinking that it might be time to start the adoption journey. Unknown to her, Ben was thinking the same thing. When he saw the face of the little one she had fallen in love with, he agreed. It was time to go get their son. All of their kids are excited about the new addition to their family and they cannot wait to meet him. Both Ben & Jen thank everyone that has donated, advocated, thrown pies and prayed for this precious little boy. It means the world to them that others care so much for him. Without their help, they may have never seen his profile. They thank you for your continued support.

ESTELLE and GERARD for the Deutsch family — VA

1082523225610825233124

Bill and Val have been married for 24 years and have raised four children. Three are no longer living at home and their youngest is in her last year of high school. For many years, they were sure that their quiver was full. The thought of adoption crossed Val’s mind at times – especially when she saw other families with their adopted children. But it did not seem to be the right season, and Bill did not share in her enthusiasm  In addition, adoption always felt out of reach due to the enormous costs involved.

Last year, God placed a strong burden on Bill and Val’s hearts to pursue adoption. In particular, He convinced them that it was time to open their home to older orphans. Through Reece’s Rainbow, they learned about the dangers faced by young people who “age out” of an orphanage and determined to do what they could to rescue some.

Seeking to be faithful to God’s call, they pursued the adoption of two young people from Russia. However, the Lord moves in ways we never fully understand. The day after their homestudy was completed, the Russian Parliament voted to ban all American adoptions. They waited and prayed for a time, to see if the ban would be reversed, or if some exception would be made for children with special needs.

Eventually, they realized that the clock was running out for children in other parts of the world. With the doors closed in Russia, they are now seeking to adopt Estelle and Gerard from Eastern Europe and looking forward the the day they will join their beautiful daughters.

God has shown Bill and Val, in unexpected and at times painful ways, just how great the need is among older orphans. They are open to his leading and are willing to bring others back with them when they travel to the Eastern Europe. They also continue to pray for their dear Russian children, and hope that one day they may all be united.

GIANNA for the Gilbert Phillips family — TN

Gianna (2)Stephanie and Chris met in college and it was love at first sight….very much like it was the first time they saw “Gianna” on Reece’s Rainbow. They have been married for 14 years, and have two wonderful biological boys named Pearson (age 10) and Henry (age 8).

They had planned to adopt in 2007, but they learned that year that Pearson has Asperger syndrome and felt they needed to focus on his needs at that time. Eventually they learned that both boys needed lots of support, therapy and extra attention, so Chris and Stephanie have devoted the past 5-6 years solely to them. As time has passed, the boys have grown into such loving, kind-hearted and wonderful kids. Pearson is literally a computer whiz. He has already built three computers on his own from scratch, and is currently learning to code Java. Henry is a gentle love-bug who enjoys spending time outdoors riding his bike and rock-climbing. Stephanie is an at-home-mom who has become an advocate for families living with special needs, and Chris has continued to work hard at his job to support his family.

Chris and Stephanie feel that this is the right time to bring a daughter into their family, and “Gianna” (who they plan to re-name Winnie) stole their hearts right away. They had the joy of loving a precious nephew with Down syndrome, and he taught them so many lessons about life and love. Their nephew lost his courageous battle with leukemia at the age of 12, but his life has inspired everyone who knew him to be present in the moment and to live life to the fullest. Knowing him led Chris and Stephanie to adopt a child with Down syndrome, and they know their lives will be better having shared it with Winnie.

Although Winnie is an “older” child, she will fit in well with the structure of Chris and Stephanie’s family. They cannot wait to bring her home to share their many adventures with her. She has already been such a gift to them as her joyous spirit radiates through her photos and videos. They are not sure how they got to be so lucky!

LISA for the Livshin family — NC

LisaJames and Jamie met 10 years ago through family members when James’ brother married Jamie’s cousin, however they lost touch until 4 years ago when they met up again and there was an instant connection. A friendship was formed over the next year and now 3 years later they have a wonderful marriage that grew out of their friendship. They are so proud of their blended family, two girls Emillie (15) and Bella (8) from James’ previous marriage and their son Jacob (2).

The Livshin’s were introduced to Eastern European orphans when their church sponsored a hosting program during the summer. James was born in Russia and still speaks the language and Jamie was involved in the children’s ministry so it seemed like a great volunteer opportunity. Little did they know God had a bigger plan. It all started when the hosting program was one host family short. They agreed to host a 10 year old boy and in just 3 weeks fell completely in love with him and wanted to adopt, but were unprepared for the process and the cost. After many tears it was decided it was not the right time for them to adopt but were open to it in the future. Two years later they were approached with the idea of adopting an 8 year old boy who had participated in the same hosting program, but was not adopted. After speaking with his host family they decided they would walk by faith and start the journey of a lifetime. Everything seemed to be moving smoothly and then the email came… the little boy had been referred to another family. Jamie took the news the hardest, she was heartbroken. The tears turned to anger, the anger turned to questions… why would God do this? Then the questions turned to prayer. Knowing that God is in control and has a plan for them they prayed for their hearts to be open and their minds to be patient and they would trust in Him.

James went on a mission trip to the Eastern Europe the last week of March where he met Lisa. A beautiful, kind, smart girl who has so much love to give but so little hope. She is turning 16 in two months and that means will age out of the system. She will have completed the 10th grade and be on her own all alone to face a great big world. James and Jamie can change this girl’s future. They can give her a loving home where she can be party of a family for the first time. She wants to be a chef and they can help her realize that dream. She deserves more because God has a plan for her too.

DRAKE for the Ashby family — MO

James and Christy met in the spring of 2007 and they married three years later. Combined they have 5 children. Their youngest 3 children are teenagers and reside at home. James works for a local hospital in Behavioral Health and with children who have special needs. Christy works for a large telecommunications company in Information Technology as a Service Management Specialist. James and Christy are looking to expand their family and are pursuing an international adoption. They have a 1.5 year old son on hold in an Eastern European country and are very excited to meet him!

Christy started researching adoption in the spring of 2012. She feels strongly that God has led her and James to adopt a child with special needs. She found the Reece’s Rainbow website and was shocked by the sheer volume of children that need to be adopted. She continued to research adoption and talked to James about it at great length. After looking at many profiles for children she found their son. Once she saw his picture she knew he was theirs without much hesitation at all. Within hours they committed to him. Everyone in the family has watched the videos of him and are anxious to bring him home.

STORI for Kelly and Kyle

30226095416Kelly and Kyle thought that growing their family through adoption was going to be a little bit easier the second time around. Not long after bringing four-year-old Charlotte home in March 2012, they felt a strong tug pulling them back to their daughter’s wonderful former baby home to complete their family. They committed to bring home two beautiful little girls, both with Down Syndrome. The older of the two girls had been Charlotte’s friend and part of her groupa. With a familiar, agency, process, and country, Kelly and Kyle had hoped to be in-country during the spring.

The stroke of one man’s pen turned their plans, dreams, and future family on its head.

Instead of spending the winter months making plans to bond with their new daughters and enjoy re-connecting with the friends they met on their first adoption journey, Kelly and Kyle advocated and waited for any sort of positive news to come from their daughters’ country.

After weeks of no encouraging news, they both sat down to make heads or tails of the big and little pictures of their rapidly adoption journey.

Kelly and Kyle started this second adoption journey because they wanted their family to be a bit bigger and their house a little more crowded. They have open arms and desiring hearts—something that stood to benefit any child who waited for a mama and papa to love them.

They cannot and will not forget “Little E” or “Baby A”, and will bring them home if the doors in their country are opened again.

For now though, the way forward is clear. Kelly and Kyle’s journey has taken a turn to a new country in Eastern Europe, a new program, and a new daughter waiting for them.

Any help you can offer them as they bring Stori (who they will call Louisa) home is most appreciated!

JOEL for the Reed family — PA

Wendy and Jeff Reed are the proud parents of 8 wonderful children, 4 born to them and 4 that joined their family through the miracle of adoption! The Reed’s youngest biological daughter, Mikayla who is now 9, was born with Down Syndrome which they lovingly refer to as “Designer Genes”. Mikayla is such a great joy to her family, and she puts a smile on the face of everyone she meets! Mikayla opened the family’s hearts even further towards the blessings of parenting a child with special needs, and the Reeds went on to adopt four more beautiful daughters from China, all with various special needs including heart conditions, cleft lip and cleft palate, congenital corneal defect, cerebral palsy, and Down Syndrome. Mikayla even had the privilege of joining her parents on their last journey to China in September 2011 to adopt her baby sister, Khloe, who also shares the same “Designer Genes”. Mikayla was such an incredible witness to everyone she met in China, as to what a child with Down Syndrome can accomplish and do when given the opportunity, proper medical care and therapies, and of course… the love of a family! Khloe has been home just a little over a year now and is absolutely blossoming in the loving care of her family!

While in China, the Reed family had the opportunity to visit with Khloe’s Foster Family and met her Foster Brother, Joel. Joel is 8 years old and has spina bifida. Joel has such a sweet and gentle spirit and he is so clever! He has seen so many of his younger friends from the Foster Care center he attends for school and medical care leave to go home with their Forever Families and has wondered if he would ever be chosen. While playing with both Khloe and Joel during the visits with the Foster Family, the Foster Mom asked Joel if he would like to go to America with Khloe’s mom and dad. Joel enthusiastically answered that he would love to go home with the Reed’s and wished that they could be his mom and dad too. Oh, how the Reeds would somehow love to make his wish come true!

The Reeds knew that it would take some time for Khloe to adjust to her new family and that funding for a new adoption was slim. Still, Joel remained on their hearts and they heard God gently nudging them to bring home a son. In Sept 2012, the Reeds once again stepped out in faith to begin a new adoption journey, knowing that God had provided every cent needed to bring home their four precious daughters from China and would certainly do the same for Joel. The whole family is so excited to welcome Joel home to their family!

JULIA for the Valley family — ID

photoErnie and Jamie were destined to love each other, they perfect for each other and count themselves blessed for every day they have had and will together. After a whirlwind romance and a short courtship Ernie and Jamie were married, almost 8 years later we have never been happier or laughed more. Ernie and Jamie decided pretty quickly after entering into their relationship that adoption would be part of their future. The Valleys have 3 children, Jewel (12) and twins Wolfgang and Jaeger (4), who are all very excited to welcome their new sister into their adventures. Jamie learned about Reece’s Rainbow shortly after friends of hers found their daughter there. That little girl would turn out to be a catalyst in our lives and our thoughts on international special needs adoption changed. Ernie and Jamie owe many thanks to that little girl and maybe one day they’ll be able to tell her so. As the medical issues they were willing to work with and accept became larger and larger, it became an understanding that a special needs adoption was in order for our family as well. After much soul searching, some, more than one unforeseen circumstance and lots of positive thoughts, Ernie and Jamie have found a little girl with a smile on her face and laughter in her eyes and as soon as they can make it so, that little girl will be sharing her smile and laughter with her new forever family, in her new forever home. The country that beautiful little girl lives in is closed to Americans for now, after that heartbreak they have found a silver lining. Ernie and Jamie are able to bring another beautiful child home and make her part of their family and a little sister. They are very excited to show her what a family is and what it is like to love, giggle before bed and be happy. Ernie and Jamie have learned that a house full of children makes a lifetime of laughter and are thankful to all the muses and catalysts they have encountered along the way.

Johanna + 1 for the Dismuke family — KY

JohannaMichael and Heather have been married for almost 8 years (has it really been that long?). They have two wonderful little girls who we cherish with all their hearts (R and S). In 2008, Heather started hinting to Michael that she wanted to adopt but Michael had many misconceptions of adoption (ex: only people who cant have children adopt). So, Heather prayed and hinted A LOT that she wanted more children and she wanted them through adoption. You see, Heather has had adoption on her heart for years. She wanted a child from every continent if God would allow her (well that is what she thought when she was a teenager). Heather prayed daily that God would open Michael’s heart to adoption. Then, the craziest thing happened, He put families who had adopted in he’s path. He saw what adoption really looks like. He saw children who had possibilities because they had a loving family. One night, while surfing the web, Heather got on the this advocacy website, Reece’s Rainbow, because one of those families that God was using to soften Michael’s heart where adopting two beautiful little ones. We identified a little girl in a country in Eastern Europe and we began the process.

As the months went on, they found themselves done with the home study and own to the dossier stage. They where moving right along and it felt great. Then road bumps started to occur but no bump is to big for God so they continued with faithful hearts. Then one day, the door was slammed shut, and our adoption was put into limbo. They lived on a roller coaster; with good days and very bad days. They continued because they new this was what God wanted. Then one night with tears in her eyes, Heather prayed that God would give them a yes or no….Heather needed a direct answer…no maybe. The next morning, He gave her that answer and while it was not the answer she was hoping for, it was the answer they would except.

So, here they are, starting again, not from the start but close to it. They have gone from the red bear and have chosen to go the red thread journey. While it is not the journey they started out on, it is the journey God intended them to go on.

SAVANNAH and NATALEE for the Carpenter family — PA

Savannah20331213725 NataleeBrian and Stephanie are passionate advocates for orphans and especially those with special needs. They are blessed to live their ministry and hearts! They have previously adopted 4 daughters with special needs via international adoption. Sasha is nearly 16 and adopted from Russia. Ellianna is turning 8 years old and adopted from Taiwan. Angelina is 6 and 1/2 and adopted from Bulgaria and Avigayil is 6 and adopted from the Philippines.

Stephanie has worked for years in international adoption/advocating for children and helping families bring home their precious children. They have recently spoken at adoption/foster care conferences on International Special Needs Adoption. Brian and Stephanie also are the founders and directors of Ting Ministries – a non-profit orphan ministry working in the Philippines and also Ukraine. They are called by the LORD in His Word to care for the least of these – such verses as James 1:27; Proverbs 31: 8 – 9 and Psalm 68:6 are verses that not only encourage them as they minister to the orphans but these verses also speak clearly as to the LORD’S Mandate to care for the least of these.

Brian and Stephanie are now proceeding to bring home two more precious daughters and would be blessed and honored to have many partner with them in prayer as they work quickly to bring these two beautiful lives home where they belong! A song that speaks so loudly to Brian and Stephanie is called “The Prayer of the Children” by Kurt Bestor and the first line of the song says…
CAN YOU HEAR THE PRAYER OF THE CHILDREN?

Can you hear? What will you do? BE A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS!

HEATH for the Drake family — TX

newwaitingchildrenheathCaleb and Mehgan Drake met at a bowling alley a decade ago. He was so smitten, that he proposed to her that night with a plastic vending machine ring–they have been together ever since. During the past nine years of marriage, they have had three precious children. Andi is 7, Lilly is 4, and Sawyer is 3. Caleb works as an account manager for a popular soda company, Mehgan is a crafting-cooking-stay at home mom, and Andi is an incredibly smart first grader. Lilly and Sawyer stay home with Mehgan and bring joy to their home.

They are a Christian family, who is earnestly seeking out God’s will for their family. They came to the realization that they were taking care of themselves, but not really anybody else. So they began to pray that God would direct them in the way they could best serve Him, show His love to others, and help others. They found Reece’s Rainbow and the needs that the children had was so heartbreaking, that it stayed with them for days. It was heart-wrenching looking at all of the sweet pictures and profiles of the kids that had been abandoned to a life of neglect simply because they weren’t “normal”. Long story short, they have fallen in love with a little boy with Down syndrome, named Heath, and are actively pursuing his adoption so they can bring him home. They had always considered adoption as a possibility for themselves, and now God is opening doors and making it happen. They believe that they are following God’s will in taking this huge leap of faith, and they would love for you to follow their journey, and join them in prayer as they move forward.

IVAN and SIMEON for the Maxwell family — ND

simeon (2)Ivan (3)Ryan and Natalie are a young couple that has been through more in their first couple years of marriage then most families ever experience. They were married in 2011 and they have a son who will turn 1 in April 2013. Ryan works at an engineering firm as a CAD drafter and Natalie will graduate in May 2013 with her degree in Psychology and Christian counseling. They have always know that they would adopt someday, but never would of considered adopting children with special needs.

Their normal newly wed life changed drastically on the day after their first ultra sound when they were told that their son, Landon had a very rare and severe heart defect. After their son’s birth they spent three weeks in the hospital as Landon underwent two open heart surgeries in his first two weeks of life. When the family finally was able to go home and begin their life together, they knew that they were ruined for a normal life. Their eyes had been opened to a world full of pain and suffering and what they found was that in the midst of the heartache there was something more beautiful and meaningful then anything they had ever known. They realized that life is short and the only thing they can take with them into eternity are the lives that they touch. Shortly after they got home, God began speaking to them about the need for every child to have a loving advocate to fight for them. They knew God was calling them to adopt children with special needs and one night Natalie stumbled on Reece’s Rainbow through a blog. When her eyes fell upon a little five year old named Ivan she knew she would never be the same. “It was like his eyes spoke to my heart and asked me if I would love him.” The couple began praying for Ivan and just when they sensed God telling them to adopt him, they found another five year old boy in the same orphange who had faced unspeakable rejection in his short life. “We knew that we couldn’t go to the orphanage to adopt Ivan and not do everything we possibly could to rescue Simeon as well.” That is when they did something that most people would consider a crazy leap of faith and committed to adopting both boys.

Soon after they told God Yes to adopting His children with special needs, God began to perform a miracle on Landon’s heart. They were originally told that Landon would only have one functioning ventricle to sustain him for his lifetime, but in January 2013, Landon had his third and last surgery. He now has a normal functioning, two ventricle heart. The young couple knows that God gave them a child with a broken heart so that He could break their hearts for the things that break His. They know that their journey with their son was meant to open their eyes to the path that God is calling them down as they adopt His precious ones.

The family’s moto is “Every heart deserves a home. Every child deserves a chance.”

Please join this family in praying that God would level the mountains that stand in between them and these two precious ones.

ELVIS for the Hopkins family — MN

Elvis 2012 (5)Tim and Heidi have been married for almost 10 years and feel incredibly blessed with two amazing children. Freddie was born to them seven years ago, and Valerie joined their family through adoption nearly 3 years ago at about 2 years of age—she is will be 5 this summer. God used their struggle with infertility to open their eyes to the desperate needs of orphaned children all around the world, especially those with special needs who are less likely to be placed with families. Their precious daughter, Valerie, has Down syndrome (adopted from Hong Kong), and has been such a blessing and a ray of sunshine in their home. They can’t imagine their lives without her. When Tim and Heidi were in the adoption process with Valerie, a friend told them about Reece’s Rainbow, and Heidi has made many visits to the Web site since then to pray for the precious little ones who are waiting for families. In the summer of 2011 Tim and Heidi felt God stirring in their hearts to adopt again, and as they were praying and talking over what steps to take, a little face on Reece’s Rainbow grabbed their hearts. They joyfully committed to a little boy, and began the process to adopt him. This past August the Hopkins traveled and met this little boy and committed to another child as well. While the Hopkins where back in the US getting their paperwork in order for court, the country closed all adoption to Americans. After several months of praying and hoping and grieving for these children that they love and had wanted to make a part of their family, Tim and Heidi felt it was time for their family to move on and proceed with the adoption of another waiting child from another country. Heidi remembers noticing little “Elvis” when he was first listed on RR and was struck with how much he looks like their daughter. They and happened to run across his profile again, recently, while praying for direction and the resemblance to Valerie really struck both Tim and Heidi. The Hopkins are eagerly anticipating bringing this precious little boy into their home and into their hearts. They feel so thankful for the blessing of the grant that is available for “Elvis” as they had already invested a very large amount of financial resources to their previous attempt to adopt from Eastern Europe. Through the pain and unpredictable journey, God has brought Joy and He works all things for the good. The Hopkins invite you to join them in their adoption journey through your love, prayers, and encouragement. Please pray for them— for their sweet “Elvis” as he waits for his family to bring him home.

EMMITT and FRANK for the Baker family — NC

Emmitt 2013 (2)Frank (2)Alynn and Art Baker have been married for 26 years and live in North Carolina. While many couples tell how they always wanted to have a big family and always wanted to adopt, this was not the case with them. Alynn had not even heard of international adoption until the youngest of her three bio children was ten years old! This was the beginning of a journey of following God’s call to adopt, one step at a time.

After bringing home a healthy baby girl from China, Alynn discovered something else she had never heard of before: a Waiting Child List. Alynn had always been a cautious, non-adventurous, quiet mom, and God worked mightily in her heart and life as she and Art went on to adopt five more waiting children with various special needs: a total of four from China and two from Ghana. “Each adoption was a leap of faith. Each adoption was orchestrated by God,” Alynn said. “If you want to see miracles, you have to step out of the boat.” Art has always been game to adopt as many children as God directs and leads them to. He is always a tremendous support and encouragement to Alynn.

The Bakers state that they have never had the money for any of their adoptions, but God had been faithful to provide in one way or another to bring all their children home. After six adoptions, most of their resources have become depleted, especially after having recently arrived home with their latest son. But God tugged hard on Alynn’s heart until she was certain that He wanted Emmitt to be a part of their family and that what God has called them to do, He will see that it is done. The Bakers appreciate all the prayers that have been prayed for Emmitt over the years, and ask that you continue to pray as their process proceeds. The whole Baker family is very excited about their new brother coming home!!

LAURA for the Swolgaard family — SC

laura-1Tyler and Rachael have been married for 7 years and currently have two kiddos (2 years old and 4 years old). They are excited beyond words to bring a new child into their family through adoption. Although a couple years ago they both would have said they weren’t “called to adopt” their eyes have been opened, their hearts broken, and a fire lit within them to welcome this child into their home with outstretched arms. They believe in three things in their household: 1. Following the will of God at all costs, 2. Loving beyond measure, and 3. Laughing your way through life. After all, sometimes in life if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.

Tyler and Rachael are immensely thankful for each and every donation given to bring this sweet girl home. They honestly believe that each person who gives even 5 dollars is part of Laura’s journey to know the love of a family forevermore.

HEATHER for the Daulton family — VA

11003070803 Heather (3)-croppedDave and Janie Daulton have 13 children, 5 “homegrown” and 8 adopted. One of their birth children and all 8 of their adopted children have Down Syndrome. One of their adopted daughters is Ethiopian, and four others were adopted from Eastern Europe. They have been working with orphans in Eastern Europe since 1999, with a focus on children with special needs. They have known Heather for three years, and are eager to bring her into their family. They intended to adopt her during their most recent adoption from Eastern Europe back in November 2012, and were approved for two children, but there were problems with some paperwork, so they have had to re-apply and begin their dossier all over again to complete their process for adopting Heather. They have been advocates for adoption and for the rights of children with special needs for the past 29 years, and have helped numerous couples add to their family through adoption. They really feel God has called them to adopt this one last time, as little Heather has stolen their hearts, and they hope to bring her home this summer. She is 11 years old and is the size of a 3 year old; the more time passes, the less time they will have to try and help her recover from her psycho-social dwarfism. Please pray for them and help any way you can!

COPELAND for the Buhman family — OR

21026212908Darrell and Haley were married in 2007. After a short period of infertility, they welcomed their delightful daughter Helene in June, 2012. They knew right away they wanted more children and as soon as possible. They did not anticipate what the Lord had planned.

A friend of Haley’s family adopted a little girl from Bulgaria in November, 2012. She was almost four years old and weighed only ten pounds. Haley’s heart was broken for the orphans in that moment. Naturally it took her husband Darrell a little longer to be convinced, as Haley is the “gas pedal” and Darrell is the “brake”, but he could see the Lord working.

Things were happening all around them that couldn’t be explained except for that it was God telling them what He wanted. Not just to advocate and donate, but to open their home and become a mom and dad to one of the children on Reece’s Rainbow.

When Haley first saw Copeland’s photo, she was struck immediately by how much he looked like their daughter Helene. She wasn’t able to stop thinking about him and praying for God to tell her if Copeland was the little one for them.

Darrell and Haley continue to let God lead the way for them and pray that others will see that ordinary families can pursue adoption.

ELLIOT for the Ehlers family — SC

Elliot (2)After completing their education at the SEC-dominant, perennial powerhouse Bulldog nation known as the University of Georgia, the Ehlers embarked on their opening act in Oklahoma where their first two wonderful, beautiful kids were born (Kristen, then Adam). A few great years and a couple of jobs later, they landed in Greenville, SC – closer to their Georgia and Florida roots. In 2000, lovely, young Grace was born, and this little family settled in, thinking that their ranks were full. In 2008, mom felt a call, and she started praying about adoption, unbeknownst to dad. So one night shortly after her prayers commenced, dad (still oblivious to her little plans) called her in to listen to a Focus on the Family broadcast about adoption. Taken as a sure sign, this little family started its journey toward Ethiopia. A few months before their referral, God intervened and routed them to Ukraine for a Christmas union (the first court date was on Christmas day) with their newest family members – the elegant and joyful young Dariya and Anastasia. In the fall of 2012, they were hooked by a little fellow named Denis in a video. As tender folk themselves, they were very touched by his tearful farewell to his special friend in the orphanage, and now, they excitedly work toward bringing him home in this 25th year of their marriage.

NIGEL for the Turley family — AZ

30218171142 NigelReagan and Adam met in 2003 when they were co-workers at a popular electronics store known for its yellow box. A friendship grew into a relationship, and three years later they were married. Since then, they have been blessed with two biological children, Tessa(3) and Nate (1). When Reagan was pregnant with Nate, she was told that her little one growing inside her might have Down’s Syndrome along with some kidney issues. This did not change their heart, for they knew no matter what, this little guy was special. Nate was born with some kidney issues, but is otherwise healthy.

Reagan has always had a heart for people with special needs. This passion prompted her to become a Special Education Teacher. Though her class of special needs high-school students brings her so much joy, there has always been a part of her that knew that her family needed a member with an extra chromosome. The Turleys came across Reece’s Rainbow in January of 2011. The timing wasn’t quite right then for their family, so they committed to praying and supporting some of the faces they came across…all along praying for a possible brother or sister to come along and take their breath away when the time was right. In the spring of 2012, Reagan came across a precious child that did just that. She inquired about the child, but the child had already been spoken for. The Turleys knew God had a special little one in mind for them, so they waited some more. A short while later the little girl was re-listed. As soon as she was, Reagan’s heart began to feel a tugging. They took a leap of faith and inquired about her again. This time, God opened the door! They committed, and began their journey. Soon after, they were faced with an enormous road block. The little girl they were committing to was in Russia. Two weeks following their commitment, American adoptions to Russia were banned. The Turleys were heartbroken. Quietly they waited some more. After two months of waiting, it was made clear that this door was closed for now.

They are trusting that God’s timing is perfect in all things. The Turleys continue to feel like God is calling them to their daughter in Russia; it just might take more time than they had originally planned. They will continue to love, pray and wait for the little “Ruski” that has captured their hearts, no matter how long it takes. But until then, God is opening a window for their family. They had originally set out to make one less orphan in the world. Now they are feeling that God is calling them to bring home a brother as well to be a part of “Team Turley”. God has lead them to sweet Nigel and they cannot wait to scoop him up into their family. He will be loved and cherished for the “gem” that he is. The Turley family is excited to embark on this great adventure and invite you to join them as they prepare to bring their son (and one day their daughter) home.

“God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
- Zephaniah 3:17

Danny_close upRileyChris and Jenn have been married for thirteen years. They have four beautiful daughters – Karissa, Riley, Peyton, and Milana. Their youngest daughter Milana has Down Syndrome and was brought to them through the blessing of adoption. Milana came home from Ukraine in September 2010. It wasn’t long after Milana came home that the family began to talk about adopting once again. After much consideration and prayer they decided if they were going to adopt this time they had to adopt a boy!

They can not wait to get Danny home to their family so that they can love on him. Milana is already beyond excited to be a big sister. She looks at the picture of Danny and says “baby brother!” Chris is beyond excited to no longer be the only guy in the house.

They know this will not be an easy road. Adoption is hard work. Please consider supporting the family in any way you are able. They appreciate your prayers, well wishes, and any support you are able to provide them.

AUTUMN for the Meeker family — TX

Amy and Bob Meeker have had a heart for orphans for many years. Initially they started their journey by creating a clothing closet for foster children at their church in 2007. They currently have 3 children; a biological daughter, Molly (age 5), an adopted son from Korea, Timmy (age 3), and an adopted daughter from China, Savannah (age 3). Both Timmy and Savannah were born with special needs. Timmy was born with a special heart. He has pulmonary atresia and tetraology of fallot. Sweet Savannah was born with congenitial hypothyroidism. It has been Bob and Amy’s greatest joy to watch their children grow and flourish in their home. Amy is a school teacher and Bob is a manager at Red Robin. They enjoy spending time with their families and many pets including 3 dogs, 2 birds and 1 kitty cat. In December of 2011 Amy was reading about precious Autumn on a advocate’s website. She fell in love with sweet Autumn and started praying for her to find a forever family. In the summer of 2012 Bob’s heart was moved by a video of Autumn that he saw. They prayed for many months and God confirmed to them that Autumn was indeed to be their daughter. They are super excited to welcome Autumn into their home. Their families and children are thrilled as well! They would like to thank everyone for praying for Autumn and for everyone’s generous support.

DANA and ALEX for the Gunderson family — ID

Gunderson famMatt and Jessie Gunderson enjoy their five kids and have more room, more love and have family and support networks that will be a blessing to once orphaned children. They’ve long felt like someone was missing. They want “adopted” to be a past tense verb for their children. They want to share their family and resources with a brother and sister called Alex and Dana. Jessie is a stay at home mom and Matt is a high school teacher. Their job choices and simple small farm life are an ideal situation for growing a large diverse family. Matt’s job allows him to be home early and the couple loves to hang out together with their children. They hope to leave their kids with a legacy of love and compassion.

The children they are planning to adopt are siblings, ages five and seven. Dana, age five, is HIV+. She is not yet on antiretroviral drugs. These children are the only ones still on the waiting list at the Gunderson’s agency. Without them their chances of getting a family are slim. But unfortunately with a teacher salary, saving enough to bring these precious children home is impossible. The Gundersons are so thankful for the support of others and for those who share their passion for serving children. They are waiting to redeem these children and give them a chance at life in a family. They want to commit their lives to loving them. Money is their only remaining obstacle.
