From his caregivers: Michael attends a school for children with special needs. He has been in the orphanage since he was 2 1/2 years old. Michael is very affectionate and has achieved a certain level of independence. He demonstrates an ability to adapt quickly in various situations and has great capacity to give and receive affection. He is working on improving his pronunciation.

He is a child with fast adaptation to new situations, however when he gets confidence and trust to somebody, he has demanding and resistant behavior when somebody don’t do what he wants. The lack of an appropriate way to express his ideas, emotions and thoughts, generates emotions like sadness and frustration; this usually can be manifested in situations who are demanding.
Michael is a happy child, likes to show his affection, affectionate and with big desires of attention. His social development corresponds to mild retardation. In self-reliance activities his performance is independent, for which he only requires slight supervision. In activities which involve expressive and written language he still requires support.
Michael’s country is *beautiful* to visit, and is rich in culture and history. Amazing trip no matter what time of year!

Marty has Down syndrome and at the age of 5 months old was given a diagnosis of CP based on his delayed motor development and horizontal nystagmus (both of these things are common in children with Down syndrome).He is described as a quiet and even-tempered child who has adapted quickly to the routine and daily schedule at the institution. He is able to walk independently. He assists with dressing and undressing himself and is learning to feed himself as well. He goes to the toilet when reminded to do so by the staff. He is not yet speaking but demonstrates understanding and follows basic requests.
He plays with other children and interacts well with adults. He responds to his name and loves attention from the caregivers. He has a special bond with one specific care giver. He loves to play with toys and shows a preference for stuffed animals.

He feeds himself and assists with setting the table and also with cleaning up the toys. He seeks out adults and other people to interact with. He is physically healthy, with no past or current health concerns.

From his medical records: Elementary thinking processes are observed. He can’t speak but pronounces separate sounds and some syllables. He knows his name and reacts when called. He carries out very elementary orders come here, give me your hand, and lie down. He distinguishes praise and reprimand. He is not oriented for a place and time. His attention is unstable, his memory is mechanic. He gives his hand for a greeting. He walks independently and has good general motorics. The fine motorics are limited. In emotional aspect the child is calm and quiet. He rejoices at the attention he is paid but prefers to play alone. He likes to play with toys by turning them from all sides. He looks at his hands with a great deal of interest and entertains himself by making different movements with them. The child is taken care of entirely by the personnel. The child is included in the project Granny and grandchild and learns how to eat independently. A speech therapist works with the child in order to develop his speech skills. The training how to eat on himself continues.

Adam has lived in a mental institution since shortly after his 4th birthday. Visitors to the institution have described it as very nice and more like a nice hotel than a mental institution. The children are well cared for and have many opportunities to experience things. Yet Adam is still missing the love and attention that comes with having a family of his own.
Adam is 10 years old. He walks and his gross motor skills are well developed. He does not talk at this time but does follow verbal directions. He feeds himself with a spoon but still requires some assistance with dressing. He plays with toys and enjoys music time, but prefers to play alone instead of with the other children. He is not aggressive toward himself nor others and is described as “a calm child”. He does the stereotypical rocking back and forth when sitting, which is a common “orphanage behavior”. He attends school in the local village. He’s in a special education class. He is not interested in most school activities, though he does enjoy music time.

From a missionary who visited with him in May 2010: “ Jimmy is a delightful three year old with Down Syndrome. He is decribed as being quiet and playful. Jimmy doesn’t walk by himself yet, but he can get anywhere he needs by holding onto furniture and walls. He only says a few words, but understands so much more. Jimmy has a close relationship with his foster father. When foster dad hugs him and raises him up, he laughs happily. Jimmy also loves the outdoors. When foster mom takes him to pick up his older foster brother from school, he raises his head in his stroller, looks at the sky, and laughs heartily. He is curious about everything. ”
Update in July 2011: Jimmy, now four years old, has been on the shared list for a long time … At the time his file was submitted, he didn’t even walk yet! Now he runs. When the file was prepared, he didn’t speak at all. He’s still a man of few words, but he does call those in his foster family by name … If his family doesn’t find him soon, they may move him out of his foster home to make room for another child who they feel may have a better chance at a family.”

Mindy is a beautiful 13 year old girl with an incredible spirit! She was abandoned at age 6, but in spite of that, she has an optimistic and thankful heart. She likes to sing and hum throughout her day, she is honest and accepts correction well. She has good judgment, has a great thirst for knowledge, good understanding and excellent study habits. She attends school in the orphanage. She is talkative and friendly, and a good communicator. She has moderate cerebral palsy and requires a wheelchair to get around, but her speech is clear and she is working hard on her English.

Sulley is a sweet boy with a great sense of humor! Even when younger, he always had a large vocabulary and liked to talk! He is attending school through his group foster home. Sulley has a diagnosis of postoperative meningocele, scoliosis and deformity of thorax. He is listed as HBV suggested, but that is believed to be due to the positive results caused when given the Hep B vaccine.

This guy has personality! He is 11, and has a great sense of humor (he’s a little jokester). Lenny’s special need is deafness. He attends a boarding school for deaf children during the week, and lives at the foster home on weekends. He speaks sign language, which will be great when he meets his forever family. He is very intelligent with the computer, likes cars, cartoons, and building blocks.
He has good relationships with both his foster parents. He is smart and willing to help with housework. He is described as a gentleman. When he goes grocery shopping with his foster mom he always points to the heaviest bags and says “Mom, I am Superman, I will help you carry that”. Every family needs a Superman. After all, Superman was adopted too!

He loves playing soccer and says he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. He enjoys going to school and is in the second grade. He’s a good student who studies well by himself but also asks questions in class when needed. He’s gone through a lot in his young life and is ready for a forever family.

Hannah is a beautiful little girl who is 6 years old. She came into care when she was just a few days old. Hannah was born with anal atresia, and received corrective surgery in 2008. The surgery was successful, and she is now able to control her bowels with no problem.
Hannah also has bilateral microtia and is unable to hear. She uses some sign language, and will start school in September. Hannah is very active, and loves to play with the other kids. Her fine motor skills are excellent. She is a very “sensible” child, according to the nannies, and they seldom have to worry about her. Hannah loves to dance, and is good at imitating. We have a very recent video so you can see her. Hannah is a smart little girl, and will surely do her best in school. She needs a family…she is such a sweet little one, and will be such a wonderful daughter! Please consider this special little girl!

Shawna just turned 4 and has Down syndrome.
Shawna is living in foster family and has built a really good attachment with them. She likes to be close to her foster parents and they love her very much.
Shawna is introverted and quiet. She likes imitating the actions of adults. At home, when her foster mother is doing housework, Shawna will get a cloth to clean somewhere following her mother. She also likes listening to music; when she sees children singing and dancing on TV, she will shake her hips with the music. Shawna also likes drawing, scribbling and writing.
She likes playing with other children, and can get along well with them. She can take care of herself, and in daily life she can express her needs, and the teachers, aunts and mother can understand her meaning. She can take care of herself, and she can eat without help. Shawna knows how to use the bathroom and she can put on and take off clothes and shoes.

Grace has been diagnosed with Postoperative ASD (CHD). Grace has recovered well after her operation from 2010.
Grace is outgoing, smiles often, and likes playing with other children. She is a beautiful girl and is curious about the outside world. When intrigued by new objects, she will carefully observe and explore them. She likes meeting new people, and gets along with other children her age. She is a very active 5 year old. She can run and jump, can feed herself and use the restroom by herself. She can take on and off her clothing independently. She understands the meaning of “no”, can call “father”, “mother”. She can say “one, two” “give” “want” “fetch.” She enjoys listening to music and singing loudly. Even though nobody can understand what she is singing and yelling, she is very happy and involved in it. Even though she does not like speaking, she is very smart and observant. Grace likes to help the aunt to do some housework, such as folding the quilts and picking up toys. When the caretakers are holding the young children and they drop their toys, Grace will take the initiative to retrieve the toys. When the aunts want to feed the babies, Grace will take the initiative to bring them a towel. Her favorite fruits are bananas and small tomatoes. She also likes desserts.

Lucy is a 5-year-old girl (born 2007) who has congenital microcephaly, infantile cerebral palsy, severe mental delay,delayed psychomotor development, multiple malformation syndrome. She rolls from back to belly and vice versa independently. She remains in a seated position for a short time when provided with some support. She shows interest in toys – she grabs and holds a toy in her hand, waves it around and examines it closely. She responds emotionally to seeing a familiar adult.
Linus is a 4-year-old boy(born 2009) who has microcephaly, congenital anomaly of the central nervous system, delayed psychomotor development, severe mental delay, multiple malformation syndrome. When put in a baby walker he steps on the floor with his whole feet and starts to slowly go around the room in the walker. The boy remains in a seated position for a short time with an adult’s assistance. He follows each and every movement of a person or an object with his eyes and head. He loves to watch the other children playing and moving around.
These siblings have very similar diagnoses. Biotinidase deficiency is suspected. There is an emotional bond between the children and they often hold hands, smile, laugh, look for each other with their eyes and jest with each other when they are placed side by side.

Nathaniel is an outgoing boy turning 11 years old in May. His intellectual development is delayed, but he does have normal body development.
Nathaniel was found and brought to the institution when he was 2 years and 6 months old. Upon admission, he could stretch his hands out when he wanted to be cuddled and could say mom. When he was 3, he could say sister, aunt and brother in Chinese. By the time he was 5, he could tie his shoelaces without help and could basically understand adults. Nathaniel learned how to do simple chores such as sweeping the floor and cleaning the desk when he was 8. Now, he is able to have simple communication with others and helps the aunt do simple tasks around the house. Nathaniel is an active boy that loves playing sports with his classmates. He is also good at saying thank you and says hello to others on his own initiative.

Benji is a happy 11 year old boy that has been diagnosed with mental delays, Esotropia of both eyes and hearing loss of both ears. Aside from these conditions, Ben has normal body development, and is doing well at the institute.
Benji was admitted to the institute at the age of 1 year and 3 months. At that time, he was able to sit for a while and could wave “good bye” to people. When he was 2, he could put on his own clothes and enjoyed playing games with his peers. At age 3, he could run, jump, and greet people in a positive manner. At the institute, Benji has learned many things such as washing his hands and face, eating dinner with a spoon, putting on his shoes, recognizing male and female, and saying thank you. He is now able to understand directions and do basic self-care. Benji also loves to play outdoors, and often kicks the ball around with his classmates. Benji is described as an active, open, and smiling boy that gets along well with others.

John has meningocele. Following surgery, under the heartfelt care of the nannies, he recovered well and his legs move with strength. When he was four months old, he could lift his head when lying on his stomach. Now he can roll over.
John is a quiet and gentle child and he seldom cries. After he has eaten, he will lie on his side on the mat to look in the mirror. Seeing his reflection in the mirror, his vision will follow moving people in the mirror. Sometimes he will use his two hands to grab a nearby toy.

Laynie is described as having a positive attitude toward herself and others. Her motor skills are well developed. Her speech is delayed, but she speaks using single words and simple sentences. She follows verbal directions, asks questions and is beginning to memorize short poems and songs.

Diagnosis: Combined defect (cleft lip, soft palate and hard palate) – surgically corrected, delays in development
Abraham has had 6 surgeries to correct his cleft and palate issues. He makes some vocalizations, but does not have any developed speech at this time. He has well developed motor skills: walks, runs, goes up/down steps unassisted. He eats independently and drinks from a cup. His attention is unstable and he does not interact with the other children. He does interact with known adults, and has a 1:1 caregiver that spends time with him several days a week. He has been evaluated by a psychologist and diagnosed with moderate mental delays.

Evan is 3 years old. He is on a special diet due to episodes of vomiting that led to a diagnosis of a metabolism problem. He sits up, crawls, walks with assistance and enjoys being placed in a walker. He reaches for toys and plays with them for periods of time once they are given to him. He is making sounds and babbling, but does not yet have purposeful speech. He loves to interact with adults and will pout when they do not give him the desired attention. He imitates the actions of adults. He has a 1:1 caregiver that works with him daily.

Liam was born with a cleft lip. He has undergone genetic testing and extensive evaluations and consultations with specialists. There is no official medical diagnosis that has been found. The neurologist found “slightly increased muscle tonus of the right leg and extended reflexogenic zone.” His ears are described as “specifically modified”, though his hearing is not effected. Otherwise, all testing and reports have come back clear/healthy.
Liam has delays in his motor skills and his cognitive development. He sits up and moves around in awalker. He’s not yet walking independently. He reacts when spoken to, answers to his name and pronounces some random syllables and words. He laughs loudly and holds toys and observes them closely. His medical report states: “He needs a family.” Yes, he does!
UPDATE: We have new photos and VIDEOS of Liam!!! He is very small for his age. However, in the videos, he is very alert and responsive to the staff. Several additional photos and videos are available of Liam.

Ruby’s legs are said to be “spastic”, though no further explanation is given. She rolls over and when on her stomach, can supports herself on her arms while holding her head up. She reaches for toys and holds them. She laughs out loud and she is begining to make purposeful sounds in an effort to communicate. She has a volunteer that works with her and she recognizes this person as soon as she sees her.

Diagnosis: Alopecia; Developmental delays with behavior concerns
Kammy walks, runs, feeds herself, puts her own shoes on and washes her hands independently. She holds a pen and colors inside the lines when coloring. She plays appropriately with toys. Her speech has recently improved. She can say her name and several phrases and her level of understanding as also improved. She quickly memorizes songs. She constantly seeks out adults and engages them in order to get them to play with her. Her pretend play skills are developed and she will use toys to act out things she’s seen in the past. Her report indicates that she has been diagnosed with behavior problems and takes medication for behavior. However, there is no mention of any negative behaviors or behavioral concerns in her developmental report.

Natalie is a beautiful little girl who is 5 years old. She came into care when she was about 8 months old. Natalie’s motor skills were delayed, and she was diagnosed with CP. After living at the orphanage less than a year, she was moved to a CP Treatment Center. There, she received much needed PT and individual attention. After two years there, Natalie was able to take some steps assisted, speak fluent sentences, and express herself verbally.
That report was over a year ago, so we hope she has continued with her good progress! In some of her photos, Natalie appears to have strabismus (crossed eyes) that will need to be addressed when she comes home.
Natalie loves to play outdoors…her new family will need to be sure she has a swing set! Natalie is a sweet little girl, who has come so far already. Imagine what she could do with the love and support of her very own family!

Toby is an adorable little boy who is 2 years old. He came into care as an infant. Toby is developing on target, with no delays when compared to his peers. Toby is a very out-going and active little guy, who has no fear of strangers. At this point, he considers everyone to be a potential playmate!
Toby had a heart scan, which showed no problems. He had a CT scan of his brain, which showed the left hemisphere was reduced, and there was evidence of a past brain injury (prenatal or during birth). Toby does not have seizures, does not show any developmental delays, and is happy and healthy (other than usual childhood illnesses). The brain of a child is wonderful that way…it can compensate for many issues it may have! He loves to play, and is a very active little boy who is “full of curiosity”, according to the nannies! His favorite toys are balls…soccer, baseball, tennis…which will he choose? Toby is a wonderful little boy, who will be such a joy to have in your family!
Jacob

Jacob’s test suggest Down Syndrome. An ultrasound dictation in his file also hints that he looks to have congenital heart disease and an Interventricular septum membrane department tumor and defect. His heart has normal cardiac function.
This little guy needs a mommy and some good nutrition!
Jacob can roll but has poor muscle tone. He is unable to sit or crawl. He can hold objects and throw them and his eyes will follow objects. Jacob does well playing alone but also gets along well with other children.
He is not speaking yet but does understand the word “no”. He is restless and stubborn. He does not like baths and cries during them but can be comforted with food or being held.
Jacob is a very lovable little boy. All of us like him very much. We hope that he can find a home which loves him very much early in which he can enjoy the love of parents and owns a happy childhood, nice future. We believe he will bring much happiness to your family.

At the age of 11 months, she can sit alone steadily. Her left hand movement is normal, and her right hand is not very flexible; when playing with toy, her grip and flexing action is slow; Although her motor development delayed, she would express her love for music rhythm by her body language; for example, she sits in front of me, when I sing while clapping hands, after a while, she begins to imitate me, and shakes her head follow my rhythm, so lovely. At the age of 12 months, she can respond to the facial expressions of adult, can express her emotions. At the age of 13 months, she can crawl while lying on the stomach. Lewis is active, restless and has a ready smile. At the age of 5-6 months he could speak “a” and “au” and he could laugh aloud when teased. At the age of 7-8 months, he is fond of playing with others. He could adopt himself to any environment. He could get along well with the strangers. At the age of 9-10 months he could respond when called. He could cry when he is hungry. At the age of 12 months he could drink milk with the hands holding the bottle. He is gentle and kind. He is happy and glad every day under the care of the caretakers.

Tracy is a precious 5 year old girl that has been diagnosed with complex CHD. In 2011, she was hospitalized due to cerebral infarction. Tracy has average motor skills and intelligence development. Due to her condition, her hands, feet, and lips turn purple sometimes. At the age of 1 year, Tracy could roll over, hold her head up, and make sounds of yiyi and yaya. At 2 years of age, she could sit alone and shake the toy with her hands. She could understand “No” and would stop what she was doing. At age 3, Tracy would try to stand alone, could imitate sounds, and could respond to her name. At 4 years, she could say aunt and uncle. Now, Tracy can stand alone for a moment and can walk for a short distance with support. She can also understand the basics of what adults are saying.
Tracy is described as a quiet and sensible child who has a close relationship with her caretakers.

Thalassemia
Wayne is a 4 year old boy with a sweet smile. He has been diagnosed with Thalassemia, which requires him to have a blood transfusion every month. Before the blood transfusion, Wayne becomes pale, is in poor spirits, and has no appetite, but after the transfusion, he regains his appetite and is active once more. He has normal motor skills, as well as normal intellectual and language development. At the age of 2 years, he could walk with one hand held, knew “big” and “small,” could build a tower of blocks, and could speak a few words. At 2.5 years, he could walk freely and scribble with a pen. At 3 years, Wayne could jump off the floor with both feet and knew the five sense organs. Now, he is able to do simple self-care tasks himself (going to the bathroom, washing hands, changing clothes), and can express his needs to others.
Wayne enjoys physical activity, but he cannot do strenuous exercises because of his condition. However, this does not limit his play as he is still able to engage in simple games and activities with his classmates. Wayne is smart and does well in school. He is always on time, listens to his teachers, and learns a lot in his classes. He is outgoing and very polite, always helping his teachers and saying hello to strangers on his own initiative.

Erin needs to be adopted before she turns 14 in November, or she will forever lose her chance at a family.
Erin is a smiling 13 year old girl who has been diagnosed with aural atresia of both ears, auricle deformity, and delays in intelligence and growth development.
She was admitted to the institute as a baby, and has been there since. Erin is able to go up and down stairs without help and can understand the basic instructions of an adult. She can wash her hands and eat with a spoon. She is also able to help with chores such as sweeping the floor. Her language development is limited, but she can say goodbye to others and can understand adult’s gestures. Erin gets along well with her classmates and is closest to her caretakers. She is a sweet girl that likes to be cuddled and enjoys playing with her good friends. Under the care and love of her caretakers, Erin has built a close relationship to them, and has grown to be a happy and satisfied child.

Dean is a shy 9 year old boy who was found and brought to the institute when he was 5 years old. Since admission, Dean has improved his motor skills and intellectual development. At 5 years of age, could go up and down stairs. At age 6, he could run slowly and recognize the difference between males and females. At age 7, Dean is fully toilet trained and says thank you when given things. He learned how to do simple chores at age 8, and could do basic self-management by age 9. Dean is an introverted child that gets along well with children at the school and institute.

Danielle is a sweet 10 year old girl who came to the institution at 5 years of age. She tends to have an episode when the weather suddenly turns cold. She will usually start to feel better after lying down for half an hour. Danielle is a very polite and sensible little girl. Usually, when she has nothing to do, she likes to help the nannies with whatever she is able to help with. She enjoys playing games with other children and really loves to talk. She is lively and open, and is well liked by everyone.
Danielle has become an active little girl. She likes to go jogging in the morning with the other kids and can run 400-500m. She did not attend school due to flare-ups of her condition, and because she has not been attending school, her intelligence is a bit lower compared to her peers. However, she has good language ability and can communicate with others normally. She enjoys singing songs and can recite some poetry. She can also write numbers. Danielle is also very hospitable. When guests come, she will warmly greet them, ask if they would like to sit down, and will shake their hand to say goodbye when the guests are leaving. She also considers herself as the Big Sister and will take care of the younger children.

She has been diagnosed with right ear microtia, deformity of the right arm and hand, and post-operative cleft lip and palate. She has recovered well from her cleft lip and palate operation, which she received in October.
Abby is a cute and lovable little girl turning 2 years old this summer. Abby is growing healthily under the wonderful care of her caretaker. At 1 month, she had a good appetite and could turn to the direction of sound. At 2 months, she could sit up when leaning against the quilt. At 1 year old, she could roll on the bed and got her first tooth! She can also greet you with her right hand. Abby is a quiet, gentle girl that gives a shy smile when being held and kissed. All the caretakers are very fond of her and hope that she will enjoy the warmth and happiness of her forever family soon.

Anjie is a smart, quiet and pretty little 2 year old girl. The aunts all like her very much enjoy taking care of her. They hope she can have a warm and happy family, a father and mother who will love her and care for her, so she can grow up happily. Her special need is congenital cataracts, and she also has a development delay most likely having to do with her vision impairment.
Anjie can squat on the bed with her hands holding on to the handrails. Most of the time, she likes to sit beside an auntie and listens to the auntie talking. She is not picky with food and has a good appetite. If you give her a toy with sounds, she will shake it happily and listen to it. She likes to take a bath and likes to listen to the sound of running water.

Lyle was found in the waiting room of a train station when he was 3 years old. While he can only speak a few words, he understands what is said to him by adults. He is very protective of his friends and will go to their rescue if they are being bullied. He likes to dance and is very good at imitating dances he sees. He is able to dress himself, take care of his own toileting needs and feeds himself. His caretakers feel that he is a bright little guy although intellectually delayed compared to his peers.
He likes to be kissed on the cheek and will respond back with multiple kisses. Lyle is waiting for a family that will cover his little cheeks with kisses and shower him with love.

Prader-Willi Syndrome
Alana was recently diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome and a new and recent picture is now available from the agency.
Alana is an only child born to her mentally disabled mother. Alana first lived with her biological mother and grandmother until maternal relatives took her in after observing that her mother was incapable of properly caring for her. In this home, she was physically mistreated and rejected, as she was afraid of bathing and having her diaper changed. The child was removed from their home and is now living in a foster home with a foster mother, that mother’s children, and other foster children.
At exactly 3 years old, Alana had developmental delays, making her cognitive ability closer to that of a typical healthy 7-8-month-old baby. She was still crawling and wearing diapers when she turned 3 years old, but had mastered her pinching/grabbing ability. At the time of her report (3 years old) she babbled and attempted more complex sounds. Alana’s development is quickly improving because she attends a regular therapy treatment for children with delays and disabilities. She stands and gains strength in her limbs with each day.
Over all, Alana is an affectionate little girl who can imitate adults and expresses feelings like happiness, sadness, shame, love and more. She recognizes her caregivers and shows initial nervousness to strangers. Alana is calm, explores her environment and is very adaptable. She plays well alone and sleeps soundly.
Because we only have this child’s file for a short time, she will not be able to receive donations until a family is found for her. The agency anticipates they’ll have her file for 3-6 months.

Zeke was found abandoned at 5 yrs old. He got along with other friends and he’s happy all day long. Zeke is an active boy and could express his mind clearly, greeted people politely, learnt children’s rhythms fast and he’s glad to sing in front of other kids. He couldn’t concentrate to do one thing and study in class, however his learning ability was fine and was better than most of the kids. Zeke is able to say all the colors and match them up and he says the numbers from 1 to 10.

Blind
Three year old Jesse is a beautiful little boy who resides a specialized foster care home for blind and visually impaired children. It is small home with only five children and the carers are specially trained to work with blind children. He is being taught life skills and self-care that will help him prepare for adoption and eventually independent living.
While this is a great opportunity, life has not been so fortunate for Jesse. He was abandoned at the gates of his orphanage when he was 9 months old. His blindness was caused by an untreated eye infection, and he was so ill he was sent to a palliative care home to die. He arrived a very sick and frightened little boy but was nursed back to health and given the opportunity to gain confidence and trust others around him. He is currently healthy with no further medical problems but is delayed in some areas of his development such as walking and feeding himself.
Jesse is now a happy child, interested and aware in all that is around him. In the absence of sight, he uses other senses to explore the world. He is quite timid in nature but likes to be around other children and his carers. He is sometimes uncertain when trying new things but enjoys praise and attention, so this motivates him to keep going. He would be a wonderful son with a great future but just needs his family to find him.

Oh my goodness, look at this sweet little fluffy-headed beauty!
This little cutie loves music! She receives rehabilitation services and while working on her sitting skills, started playing on the piano. She has made good progress since starting rehabilitation services. She does present with strabismus of both eyes along with Down Syndrome. Shari is a quiet, timid child with a ready smile. She loves to be cuddled and responds with laughter. Shari is waiting for a family who will help her develop and her caretakers believe that with a family’s care and hugs and kisses every day, she can live healthily and happily.

Kent is an adorable baby boy who is just 1 year old! He came into care when he was 4 months old, and they began working with him immediately to strengthen his muscles. Kent has Down syndrome, and a VSD (6mm) with left atrium enlargement. He may require a surgical procedure to plug the ASD. Kent’s development is delayed, as would be expected. When he turned 1 year old, he was not yet sitting alone, or crawling. He will need more time, and attention, before he masters these milestones.
Kent is a precious baby boy. He is very alert, and very engaging. His receptive language is very good, and he is beginning to make sounds to communicate with the nannies. His favorite activity is listening to music and being hugged. I cannot argue with that! Kent needs a family to love him, and help him reach his full potential. This sweet boy is waiting for you!

Rebecca has Down syndrome, and a heart condition; ASD, enlarged RA, mild insufficiency of TV, and mild pulmonary hypertension…the left side of her heart has normal function. A brain CT and EEG were both normal.
Rebecca is a precious little one who is just 2 years old. She was found abandoned at a bus stop when she was about 5 months old. This sweet little girl has delays; to be expected, of course, but she does not seem to be receiving the therapy she needs to help her progress more quickly. Her heart condition is slowing her down, too. Imagine the great progress she will make when her heart is fixed, and she has someone to help her learn and develop! Rebecca is crawling now, and her fine motor skills are behind. She badly needs a loving family and the continued stimulation that will help her develop and improve her future. It is certainly not too late to begin working with her…at all! Rebecca is sweet, quiet, and loves to watch other children play. A family for Rebecca will help her join other kids at play!

Clara is an adorable 7 year old girl who has been diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis. Clara also has cognitive delays, but her limb development is normal.
She is able to speak sentences of 10 words and express her thoughts clearly. Clara is currently in first grade at school. She has a hard time concentrating and memorizing new material, but she is hard working and very helpful to her teachers. Clara gets along well with other children, and will even help look after them. She loves to sing, dance, play sports, listen to music, play games, watch cartoons, and listen to stories. Clara has a very good appetite. She especially likes to eat popsicles, watermelon, and candy. Clara is described as a quiet girl that is closest to her caretakers and teachers.

Macy is a darling 9 year old girl who has been diagnosed with Dyskinesia of the lower limbs, Spina Bifida, congenital dislocation of the hip, and right clubbed foot. She has received an operation for her clubbed foot. Since her operation, she is able to stand up and walk with assistance. Her caregivers believe that she will do well in the future because she is a courageous girl.
Macy has been in the institution since she was found at 7 months of age. At the age of 11 months, Macy could smile when she recognized familiar faces and could roll over from her stomach to her back. At the age of 17 months she could call her nannies and could respond by waving her hands goodbye. She has received rehabilitation exercise to help with the motion of her lower limbs. She has been living in a foster family and receives lots of love and care from her family.
She is helpful around the home and is described sensitive, diligent, and polite. She has many talents and enjoys singing, writing, and playing cards. She has a big imagination and likes drawing birds, houses, and rainbows. Her favorite toy is a Barbie doll. Macy is a smart girl and can count from 1-100. She knows the four seasons and the changes that come with each season. Her biggest dream is to go to college to become a doctor. She is passionate about caring for people who are in pain so that they can live happy lives.

Mia is a beautiful 5 year old girl who has been diagnosed with CHD, clubbed feet, genital organ deformity, and Esotropia of both eyes.
Mia’s motor skills are limited because of her club feet, but she is able to sit and stand with support. She also cannot grasp well with her hands, but she is able to hold toys and the edge of her bed. As far as her language development goes, she was able to imitate syllables when she was 2, and at the age of 3, she could express her needs by crying. She has also learned to observe adults’ actions. Mia is a timid little girl that loves listening to music. Her favorite foods are milk and eggs, and she loves playing with her cloth doll. She has become a content and happy child under the care of her caretakers and doctors.

Tallulah is 4 years old, adorable, spunky, and about as sweet as she can be! She has been in care since she was about 5 months old. Tallulah has Down syndrome; her medical mentions a CHD that has been “cured”, but there is no other report of it, and they never mention it again.
Tallulah is incredibly flexible…a gymnastics instructor will love her! She is cheerful, loves to play (outside is her favorite place to be), and hide-and-seek is her favorite game. They report she has an adventurous spirit! Her report is over a year old…but we know she has only become sweeter, and more adorable! Tallulah needs a family to love her and be with her on all her adventures!

Emily is believed to have a diagnosis of Williams syndrome, but her records reportedly say Down syndrome. An adoptive family should be prepared (and approved) for either.
She can walk alone, run and jump, can communicate with other kids, watch TV or play toys together, she can put on clothes and shoes alone and can go to the toilet, she has normal diet, likes to eat sweet food and meat, likes to play games and study with others, can count 50 numbers, knows colors, big and small and picture shapes and so on, she is lovely and cute.

He can turn his head with moving toys, find familiar sound source, and understand when the caretaker called his name. At the age of 1 year, he can call mom, grandma, aunt, etc., and liked playing with the caretaker. Now he is studying in Kindergarten, able to draw simple pictures and sing children’s song, and likes playing with other children. Quincy can go up and down stairs without help and catch a ball thrown to him. He is fond of imitating and loves playing games.

Ebby’s mental, motor and language and emotional ability are delayed more than other kids. She likes to play games, and obey the rules, and can get along well with others.
In regard to motion, she can walk alone, and her gait is abnormal. When walking and running her right toe will firstly touch the floor, and can not do the action of both feet are straight and be together, when she is nervous or tense, she can not speak naturally.
Ebby did have a disrupted adoption in her country in 2012. Ebby needs a family who understands that she is very delayed in many aspects of her life, including behavior. This precious little girl loves to be tickled. She came into care at approximately 20 days old based on her physical status. Her caregivers report that she enjoys playing with her stuffed animals and throwing and chasing balls. She has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. It is also believed that she may have some hearing impairment, but reportedly is able to respond to her name and loud noises. She is not yet talking but responds to her name and makes sounds and waves goodbye. She is able to crawl, sit on her own and pull herself to a standing position. She is now also able to walk holding onto handrails and crawl with no difficulties. Her caregivers report that she loves playing with others.

At the age of 3 years, she can have meals with bowl and spoon. She can wash hands and face with help of the caretaker. Now little Lydia Rose can stand for several minutes alone. She can hold objects to walk. She has the prominent hand movements. She move flexibly and can hold things. Her intelligent development is well. She can conduct the daily communication. Lydia can take off clothes and go to the toilet without help.

Yvonne is a polite and friendly girl. “She likes to be tidy and beautiful,” said a visiting social worker. “So many times I saw her combing her hair.”
For the past year, Yvonne has lived in a group home in Hebei, China, where she gets to experience family life in the care of a foster mother and father. Although Yvonne has Down syndrome, she is described as “high functioning” for her condition. In the group home, she has taken on a big sister role and often helps her foster mom care for the younger children. Now 6 years old, she can read over 50 Chinese characters and count and write from 1 to 10.
Yvonne loves to perform and has natural grace. She was chosen to be the dance leader at her orphanage preschool. When she completes a project, she loves sharing it with her foster mom, and basking in her praise. Although she can be stubborn at times, Yvonne mostly listens and follows directions well.

Faith is 5 years old, she goes to kindergarten like other kids. She knows 1-5 numerals so far, can recite 3-4 songs. She can speak daily use words. Seeing other kids break the rules, she would put up her hands and report to teachers. She can’t speak clearly, but could be understood. She can have meals, dress, zip, button and wash face and feet by herself. She loves to be beautiful, likes clothes with colorful background instead of just one color. She likes to play in the park, she cheers, jumps like a happy bird when she reaches the park. She doesn’t like to stay home and watch TV, when she is upset, she pouts her lips and ignore others; when her requirements are satisfied, she smiles immediately. In the kindergarten, she performs good and cooperate with the teachers actively.

Bryannah has been in a mental institution since 2011. She has been in orphanages her entire life, but was just recently registered for adoption in 2013. Kraig is 4 years old. He is considered blind as a result of an injury during birth and surgeons in his home country have determined that his eyes can not be repaired. He is sociable, especially with adults he knows. He walks holding on to one hand of an adult and around an immovable support. He will take several independent steps and it is very likely that the only reason he is not 100% independent with his walking is due to his hesitation to walk since he can not see where he is going. He shows interest in the surrounding environment and listens to its noises. He eats from a spoon and is learning to feed himself. He can get the spoon to his mouth, but is still learning how to scoop food onto the spoon while compensating for his lack of vision. He plays with toys. He babbles and says some syllables spontaneously. He interacts with adults. He follows verbal directions and will play games in which he has to follow verbal instructions (raise your hands, clap your hands, etc). He enjoys music.

Annie was found abandon at 1 yr old. Her evaluation in July 2012 stated….. During the test the patient can smile when teased, muscular tension of whole body is high, can not keep her head vertical stably, when held to stand her feet is crossed, when lying on stomach she does not use her forearms to support, she can not roll over, can not sit alone. She can not get things on her own initiative, can not evaluate her adaptability.
From someone who knows her:
She’s doing really well. She’s on medication to control her seizures and it’s working fine. I have never seen her have a seizure, but I believe it has happened occasionally when she has been febrile with a cold or virus. Of course, does need her medication to keep her stable. She loves her wheel chair.
Annie’s personality is loving and sweet. She is happiest if somebody will just spend time with her – laughing playing and cuddling her. But she is not whiny when other kids are getting the attention either, so she would be a great fit for a large family. She just enjoys movement and action, whether it involves her, or is going on around her. One of her favorite games is when you push her wheelchair really fast between two people – she laughs so much at this!
She’s bright and has a great understanding of everything, but cannot communicate verbally.
Her disability is definitely severe, but she is emotionally very healthy. We would so love to see her in a family. Eventually she will need to leave our home, as she is absolutely not palliative, and we desperately want to see that move take her to a loving home! She is really such a beautiful child. She is like sunshine, she warms everyone around her. Even though she is trapped inside a body which will not do what she needs it to do, the beauty of her personality will not be contained. If we can find a family who can manage her physical needs, they will be so blessed by this precious daughter. It makes me so sad to think of her future if she has to remain in her birth country.

Congenital Heart Defect / delays
Liam is a precious 2 year old boy with a very interesting congenital condition, dextrocardia. His heart is pointed to the right side of his chest, instead of to the left. His liver is also on the left side. (Liam has the more common type that also includes issues with his heart; we have a report in his file.) His heart condition has affected his development; his motor skills and speech are delayed. As of last August, he was sitting up, and could crawl in his bed, but was not pulling up to stand.
Liam really needs to have surgery on his heart so he will have the ability to do everything his peers are able to do! He is a very curious little boy, who takes in all that is happening around him. A smart little guy, for sure! Liam would love to have someone read to him. This little one needs a very special family who will help him get the surgery he needs…so he can become a strong little boy who can run, jump and play with his friends!

Xander was found abandoned at 6 yrs old, he’s an active child, running and chasing in the rooms all around, he was even running to go upstairs, however he never did that again after teacher’s criticism so that we could see he’s an obedient child. At the age of 6 years and 7 months, Xander did well in all aspects of taking care of himself: he eats food himself, washes the dishes after meal and takes shower, puts on clothes, socks and shoes, goes to washroom and occasionally he helps caretaker to do works within his abilities. At the age of 6 years and 1 month: he is active, restless and unquiet, able to greet familiar people and call “teacher, aunt, uncle, brother, sister”, he’s really naughty and played on class, he didn’t like to be restricted, playing is the nature for boys, however the teacher demanded him to keep classroom discipline and he couldn’t affect other kids, he’s acceptable to teacher’s words. At the age of 6 years 7 months, Xander behaved well on classes and he was praised many times by teacher, however his expression ability was not good enough and couldn’t express himself with whole sentences, so most of the time he needed the gestures, teacher said he had made big improvements, we trust he would express himself fluently and naturally.

When she knows other child makes a mistake, she would hold mother’s hand to the front of that child, and say “ he is not obedient”, and then points to herself and says “Melia is obedient, and mom likes me.” She likes to hold a pen with full hand and scribbles and can turn book pages one by one.
In the update from July 2012, she can play and chase in the playground at outdoors with children while handing in hand. She can imitate mother’s building a tower of blocks, can build a car with small blocks and big blocks, and after finishing she would say “mom, it’s car”. She likes singing some simple children’s songs with children, knows to care about children, takes the toy for them; when she sees other children running at the nose, she would help them to clean. She can also identify objects in her environment in this manner. She pronounces some syllables, but is not yet saying complete words. Doug has already been transfered to a mental institution!!!
This precious little boy has already been through several major transitions in his short life. He was raised by his birth family until he was 16 months old. He was then placed in an orphanage for young children for 7 months. A month before his 3rd birthday, he was transfered to a mental institution, where he currently lives.
Doug has moderate mental delays with no known cause. He walks and runs and climbs on objects. His visual-motor skills are developed but he still has difficulty with fine motor tasks. His speech is delayed and he is not talking at this time. He has recently begun showing an interest in toys and playing with them. He spends time each day in the sensory room. He does not like for the staff to try to direct his activities and prefers to do his own thing. He does play appropriately with toys and manipulates them in the correct ways. His favorite toys are balls, blocks, cars and trucks. He recognizes staff members and smiles at them. He seeks out interactions with them and will cuddle with them too. He tries to get them to follow him and to engage them in whatever activity he is doing. He doesn’t yet seek out any interaction with the other children. He eats from a spoon and drinks from a cup with some assistance from the staff.

The effort of aunt made her improve quickly in each aspect, she can handle daily life, count from 1 to 30, especially make a big progress in painting, she likes painting, and tell her friends and teacher what she painted, she likes to have classes. She has colorful imagination, and often builds out various blocks shapes, if she builds up a house, she will be glad and want the aunt to praise her.
Holly is outgoing, kind, active girl, she likes to talk and laugh, can speak the sentences with 5 to 10 words in it, often ask some simple questions and good at communication. Usually she likes to watch TV with her friends, if see the picture she loved, she will be very excited and point the TV and tell everyone the name of the person and the meaning of the picture. She can handle her daily life basically, can use chopsticks, knifes and forks, can put on her clothes and shoes, brush her teeth and go to the toilet by herself. She is sympathetic and ready to help. Vanessa can move freely in the institute and likes to play with the other children. Vanessa enjoys watching comics and can communicate well with others. Vanessa can put on her clothing without help and can understand easy things such as the answers to “why should you wash your hands before meals”, and “the purpose of a cup”. Vanessa likes to listen to music and play with the other children. She is very close with her caretakers.

Regina was abandoned at the Children’s Welfare Institute in 2009, when she was approximately 5 years old.
After admission she adapted to the group life quickly. She likes being praised, can get alone well with caretaker and children, sometimes can care younger brothers and sisters and can manage her life.
In late 2010 she entered preschool class. We design and make some projects for her. We find she is interested with colorful paper, she takes the colorful paper to roll and unfold repeatedly. She learns to use scissor to cut paper. She likes painting, use colorful pens to draw circles on balloon. She can put the toy blocks of the same color together which makes her can recognize color and make her fingers more flexible. Regina has had a great change in the preschool class, from an autistic child she grows up into a polite and helpful child.
After training (blow the balloon, tongue exercise and read Pinyin), she can speak “wo, wawa, mama, yao, buyao, hao”, can write some numbers and simple characters. Her limb ability is improved, she can ride a bike, can swing, can sit on the seesaw, recently he loves riding children’s bike. Once upon a time, they are singing together, she feel the student near her does not sing well and tells to stop singing. At the same time she is helpful boy, she can do what she can, can help the teacher to clean the classroom and pick up the toys together; in the dormitory she can help to fold the clothes. In the picnic, she can pull child’s hand positively and can have a bag with food on her back. Through picnic and community activity, she broads her vision and improves her sociability.
She is confident, optimistic, polite, loving and sunshine child. She can perform actively when some guests visit the institute.

Shayna turned three in fall of 2012. With her mother having a mental illness, Shayna was not being well taken care of. Though her mother was not aggressive in any way, she simply did not have the intelligence to properly take care of her. Also, it is assumed that her biological father has passed since her birth. Sharon has been diagnosed with microcephaly, a neurological disease that impedes her mental development by affecting her cerebral growth.
Shayna requires supervision but is learning different avenues of independence. She is very exploratory, seeking alternative ways to achieve small goals. She is also learning to brush her teeth, and other small self-care tasks. With a very loving foster home, Sharon has been able to bond and attach to her foster family members and regularly attends to physical and occupational therapies. Arachnoid cyst and bilateral Perisulvian Syndrome
Jules entered into the institution when she was two months old, premature baby (30 weeks). Her weight when born was 1,310 grams. She was transferred to a children’s home because in the previous institution, it wasn’t possible to give her the attention to her special diagnosis.
A neurological study due to her premature birth and development delay was made. It was found in the MRI that she has an arachnoid cyst and bilateral Perisylvian syndrome. After further evaluation, it is also found that she has Schizencephaly and receives therapy and stimulation. During a visit to the ophthalmologist there is found that she has seesaw nystagmus and hip dysplasia which is being treated with a splint.
Her therapists are focusing on maintaining her in a healthy condition, preventing any illness or complications, stimulating her psychomotor development and constant therapies. In the short period of time at the children’s home, she has advanced in her psychomotor development very positively. She presents a delay at the moment but doctors are confident that continuing with the stimulation and therapies she will reach development according to her age.
She cannot crawl, but during therapy sessions it has become evident that she can stay on all fours for a short time. She also has a dysplasia and this limits her in her movements. Therefore she cannot walk either, but we are confident that with therapies, lots of love and patience, she will be able to learn some independence and probably to walk too, which due to her base pathology it depends on her evolution. Nevertheless, her gross motor development is very good.
Jules tries to communicate in an assertive way, answers with sweet gestures and facial expressions; she answers when she is being called by her name, follows objects with her eyes and keeps the vision on the objects or persons she is interested in. She makes sounds like stammering and laughing or crying, depending on whether she is happy or not.

Linny is a beautiful little 3 year old whose original diagnosis was Congenital meningocele. After having surgery she was developing normal physically and mentally. At 21 months old she was admitted to the hospital with a severe head injury for which she needed surgery. She is now paralyzed on her right side. She can no longer speak and can not walk.
She is introvert, limbs, intelligence and language development is slow. Her left hand can hold milk bottle to drink. She can understand what adults said, and their facial expressions. She can communicate with others by eyesight. She can response to the sound who called her.

At 9 months, she could sit steadily alone for a few minutes, grab her feet with her hands, and hold her hands up to be held. At one year of age, she could hold toys and stand when leaning on objects. She enjoyed sitting and rocking on the wooden horse. At 15 months, she was more outgoing and could stand for a long time when holding onto a support. She could grasp toys nearby and she could walk slowly with assistance. When it was time to take a nap, she would shake her head “no.” She could pick up objects with her thumb and index fingers.
Her condition became more serious in 2009, and we hope to see her come home soon so that she can receive the best medical treatment for her condition. Her caregivers exercise her daily to improve her symptoms, and say that “she has already taken the first step in life and will do better in the future.”

This sweet little boy was abandoned by his biological mother at the hospital after he had repeated pneumonia and suffered from immuno-suppression. Lacking stimulation and care as a young child has made development for Jeffrey very slow. Nevertheless, Jeffrey has been advancing in his development at a rapid pace ever since living in foster care. Jeffrey is still delayed in his speech and communication, but is very affectionate to his foster family as well as to adults and other children in his preschool program. Jeffrey is able to draw, identify body parts, and is happy, obedient and potty trained in the daytime. Jeffrey is full of joy!
Currently, Jeffrey is pending a surgery for an umbilical hernia. Although he has developmental delays, his neurologist suspects that Mucopolysaccharidosis could play a part in his physical state (weakness in his legs). No medical test has supported this one doctor’s hypothesis.

He is bright and attends a special education school in another town, where he lives in the dorms with three of his friends. He is a fun-loving boy.

Chance is a lovely 2 year old boy with the skin condition epidermolysis lax disease. He had blebs on his elbow, knee, ankle and thigh that got better after taking medicine for a week. He also has scars on his abdomen and reoccurring blebs on his forehead, neck and behind the ears, but the condition is not very serious.
His motor skills and intelligence development is similar to his peers. At age 1, he could sit steadily and eat porridge, babble, and imitate simple actions. He learned to stand up by holding onto hand rails and could walk a few steps with support when he was 1.5 years old. Now, he is able to build a tower of blocks, turn book pages, go up and down the stairs by holding onto handrails and can even put on and take off his shoes. He can also understand what the caretaker is saying and can say a few words in Chinese himself. Chance is an energetic and active little boy who likes playing with toy cars and going outdoors. Chance gets along great with other children and is still waiting to find his forever family.

He could also understand simple instructions such as “come here” “sit down” and “drink milk.” Now, he can walk steadily, run slowly, and go up and down the stairs while holding onto handrails. He can eat a biscuit by himself and is even practicing eating with a spoon. He can imitate monosyllables and can understand most daily conversations of adults. Hanson is an extroverted boy who is 7 years old. He was found on a staircase at the subway station when he was 4 years old. His limb and intelligence development is delayed compared to peers, but his motor skills have improved with 2 years of post-operative rehabilitation. When he was admitted, he could only walk short distances and would fall down easily, but now with an improved, but not completely steady walk and run, he can walk long distances, go upstairs and downstairs while holding onto rails and even likes to play outdoor activities. His right hand function has also gotten better as he can grasp most objects and can eat with a spoon. His language development is quite delayed compared to his peers. He can say 3-5 words, and understands simple vocabularies. He is very curious and observant of the things around him, and desires to communicate through play.
Hanson received surgery in October 2012 for posterior rhizotomy of spinal nerves and right carotid sympathectomy part stripping resection. Now he receives postoperative rehabilitation. At this time, Hanson’s muscular tension of left limbs is not high, and his language ability is developing.

Chuck is an active and energetic little boy! He was abandoned when he was approximately 20 days old. Chuck began living with a foster family in December of 2008 and had surgery to repair his congenital heart defects of VSD and PFO in May of 2010.
Chuck is able to walk and is fond of playing games. His favorite toy is a small car and he enjoys pushing the car back and forth.

His favorite people are other boys at the orphanage. Playing badminton makes him happy. Andrew lives with a foster family since 2004, for his better development and he feels warm towards his family. His foster parents take good care of him, and he has become more and more active and bright. His vision problem which was resulted from albinism didn’t affect his daily life, his physical indexed are within normal range.

Nicholas is considerate to the family; once the grandma fell down when cleaning at home, so now every time when Nicholas sees her doing the cleaning he says to the grandma: “please be careful”. Although he needs to get transfusions every month, he does not hate this matter; when it is the time to get transfusion, he can tell the family member that “I should go to get the transfusion, since I have no power, and I can not go up stairs”. He can speak fluently, and he also likes sports. Nicholas likes playing various toys; sometimes he even takes apart the 3-wheel car to play; sometimes he pushes the small chair to run over in the room; he likes to play in the zoo with the grandparents best. When he makes mistakes, the grandparents correct him, he can answer back. Sometimes he can help his grandma to do some housework in his ability, like throw the rubbish, clean the desk and so on.

Emmaline is well behaved, lovely and cute. Sometimes when she feels injustice from other children, she would act as a spoiled child in the cuddle of a teacher. As she grows up everyday, we feel happy yet we worry about her, because she is very sensitive and is able to understand what the teachers tell her. Sometimes she could do something out of predict. She has a good friend and they are called “golden partners” just because they are always together whatsoever playing or eating. They share things well and they even do things together such as cleaning floors.
We remember that once she found one shoe on the air conditioning, and she wanted to get it down, however, she was not tall enough and she babbled telling her friend. The friend took a chair, Emmaline stepped on the chair in order to get the shoe, and finally, she made it. She really surprised us at that time. She is really amazing. She could think of using a chair to help to get the shoe to finish her goal.
Unfortunately, she seldom speaks, which is the thing that we worry about her the most. Only give her more stimulate of language skills such as doing some oral gym to help her learn simple words, could she incorporate herself into this society well.

UPDATE In 2012, he received a shunt with good post surgical results. His hydrocephalus is now well managed and he’s making good progress in his development. An update on his development will be coming soon.
Bowden has hydrocephalus and delays in his development as a result. However, he has made tremendous gains in all aspect of his development in the past 6 months. He has a significant bond with his physical therapist and responds very well to the rehabilitation program and all the adults that are working with him to improve his development.
Bowden walks with support (holding one hand). He sits independently, crawls and walks in a walker. He climbs up the slide and on other therapy toys independently. He can stand next to an unmoving support holding on with one hand and play with a toy with the other hand. He can get to toys or anywhere he wants to go independently. He uses his left hand more than his right, though he will manipulate objects with both hands. When asked to pick up an object or find a toy, he actively looks for it and correctly identifies the requested item. He follows verbal directions. He cleans up the play area and puts the toys away in a toy box. His report says that he insists on cleaning up without anyone helping him when he’s done playing. He smiles, laughs, cuddles with adults, gives kisses on request, waves “hi” and cheers when given praise. He looks at himself in a mirror, says “hi” to his reflection and then gives it kisses. He loves having the attention of adults and will get sad when his therapy time is done. He loves to listen to music and sings along with the songs. He can perform some of the motions to dances and loves to dance along with any music. He is learning the names of his body parts, will show his teeth when asked if they are clean after brushing and will gesture with his hand when asked to show that he is “this big”. His speech is delayed, but he can say over 10 words. He pronounces a lot of sound combinations and his speech is continuing to develop. He mimics words and 2 word phrases and is beginning to put words together in questions and sentences. He’s had a significant gain in his verbal expression in the past 6 months. He is working very hard to learn to feed himself independently and is successful at feeding himself with a spoon. He needs minimal assistance. He drinks independently from an open cup. He plays well with other children.
UPDATE 2013: Bowden is now TALKING! He loves asking questions and if no one answers him, he answers himself! He’s also learned to feed himself with a spoon. He has a best friend in his group, a little girl who he enjoys playing with. He is now playing appropriately and purposefully with toys and actively participating during learning times. He is showing a curiosity of the world around him and is eager to explore and learn.
UPDATE Feb 2013: He is now living with the physical therapist from his orphanage and she is working with him to help him continue to make progress until a family can be found for him. He still spends his days at the orphanage, In the newest videos, he is walking down the hall holding just one hand of the adult, feeding himself, talking, naming body parts and identifying objects in a book and following verbal directions. He continues to make great progress in all aspects of his development.

Because we only have this child’s file for a short time, he will not be able to receive donations until a family is found for him.

Down syndrome
Alan just turned three years old, and although he can stand by himself and crawl all over the furniture, he is not quite yet able to walk. His foster father has been taking him on tricycle rides to strengthen his legs and improve his balance. Alan seems to be enjoying himself immensely!
Alan is speaking some family words such as “mama,”, “uncle,” and “sister” and is learning his colors and how to build a tower. Also, Alan can turn the pages of a book and is quite curious. Based on our reports, we can just imagine this handsome little guy snuggling on the lap of a mom or dad of his very own and read book after book. He will surely be a happy addition to some very lucky family!

At the first sight, we were impressed by her black eyes. Her eyes were big and black, which seemed to talk. As she grew up, we found her hair was beautiful, black and soft. Till now we do not cut her hair. The caretaker likes dressing her and do various hair style for her.
She received the surgery of meningocele and hydrocephalus. Now she is diagnosed as cerebral palsy and optic nerve atrophy. Her motion ability is poor and limbs are not powerful. She can turn over, can lie on the stomach, but can not sit. Additionally her mental development is delayed. She can not speak, just makes some unconscious sounds, she seems to dislike toys and not sensitive to the sounds. Now she can eat the fixed food, mainly vegetable, meat, egg, noodles, oatmeal, porridge, rice, etc. She also likes fruits. She rarely has illness. She is slight, and shorter than other children of her age.
Though she has lots of disadvantages, she is still a lovely and happy baby. She likes smiling, especially when someone is talking with her and teasing her. When someone is hugging her, she is quiet and listening to adults’ talk, sometimes she touches the person’s face. She likes noisy, always turns her head to the sounds. When no one plays with her, she will be upset and call unhappily.
Though she is a disabled child, she is lovely as other healthy child. She has the same feeling, desires to be loved and cared. We hope she would grow up healthily and happily and she would have a family with warm and love. We believe she can adapt new place and bring happiness to the family. Bless Sarea! Wish she can find her parents soon and have a family. Wish she is peaceful all her life.

Kopelan loves to sing and hum. He enjoys being held, sitting on people’s laps, and being talked to and sung to. He likes to feel the hands and the arms of the person who is talking to or holding him.
Kopelan has started to play with toys more and feels around for them. He is a happy boy who loves to laugh; he absolutely loves being tickled. He has a face and a smile that are sure to steal your heart.
