Jada is a beautiful 13 yr old who will be aging out in Feb 2014.
Her file is old (from 2008) but in it, it states that they sent her to school with typical children and she was said to be doing well in the classroom. They were working to improve her intellect, self-respect and the interest of learning, self-caring ability by playing games, telling a story, learning colors and characters from picture. They feel that will give her a good foundation for her studying at school. Under the encouragement of the teacher, she can give a performance on the stage. At the end of the semester, she was honored as “good child loving construction”. She is happy and proud taking the award back.
Jada is outgoing and optimistic and has a ready sweet smile with a pair of dimples. She is honest, kind, and obstinate sometimes and can be released under the leading of the teacher and caretaker in the institute.
Usually she is docile and sensitive. Jada can take care of herself generally; such as putting on clothes, relieving herself, tidying up her bed, eating and washing without help. She gets along well with other children and is helpful to the younger. She is polite, can greet somebody actively, and give a seat for visitors. Though she only can express herself with short sentence of 2-3 words, she knows all of the daily language and can express herself with some simple body language. She is good at imitating and likes music and dance. Though she has lower intellect, she knows the right and wrong. With the studying in the kindergarten and the direction of the caretaker, her intellect has been improved.
UPDATE from 2011:
Jada now is 11 years old. She is active and happy. She likes to smile. She has a chubby little face. She has a strong physical appearance. Although she was born with a low intelligence and with not high intelligent-looking, her smiles and her dimples show that she is satisfied with her life. The aunties here all care about her all the time. She is a likable little girl. When she first came to this institute, she had a low intelligent with delay growth developments. She had a hard time standing up. She later received early special education and rehabilitation training which benefited her in all areas. She later developed independent self-care capabilities. She started kindergarten for regular learning at the Second Experimental Kindergarten for three years in 2007. Her intelligence has improved and she has made some developmental progress. She developed interests in learning. The kindergarten prepared her for good pre-school learning. Starting last September, she became a student at the special education center. The teacher gives her good evaluations. She can really listen to teacher in class. She thinks hard. Although her pronunciation is not very correct, she always responds to questions with loud voice. She takes the initiative when it comes to do tasks. Her motor skills are very good. She is teacher’s good helper. She can write very well. She can complete letter writing, math writing, and other homework assigned by the teacher. She comes to school on time and is never absent.
As for regular living, she can do self-care in the institute. The auntie does not need to worry about her too much. She can get dressed by herself, make her own bed and clean herself. She has good habits. She is honest and has a good heart. She gets along with the children in the institute. She often helps dress or feed other younger children. She knows about good manners. She likes to be clean. She knows the differences between good and bad. When there is a visitor, she would say greetings to the visitor on her own initiative. She would give up her own seat to others. Her social ability is making progress. She knows more and more about general knowledge. She does not feel intimidated by unfamiliar strangers or surroundings anymore.
Although she does not express herself very well, she has been making good progress. She can make easy conversations. She can say sentences with 6-7 words. She understands words for general day to day functions. She can express her need. She always tries to participant in the group activities, singing and performing shows on stage.
