Born April 2005

DOB: 2008
Diagnosis: congenital hydrocephalus
medical records include head circumference measurements plotted throughout his life
Bowden has hydrocephalus and delays in his development as a result. However, he has made tremendous gains in all aspect of his development in the past 6 months. He has a significant bond with his physical therapist and responds very well to the rehabilitation program and all the adults that are working with him to improve his development.
Bowden walks with support (holding one hand). He sits independently, crawls and walks in a walker. He climbs up the slide and on other therapy toys independently. He can stand next to an unmoving support holding on with one hand and play with a toy with the other hand. He can get to toys or anywhere he wants to go independently. He uses his left hand more than his right, though he will manipulate objects with both hands. When asked to pick up an object or find a toy, he actively looks for it and correctly identifies the requested item. He follows verbal directions. He cleans up the play area and puts the toys away in a toy box. His report says that he insists on cleaning up without anyone helping him when he’s done playing. He smiles, laughs, cuddles with adults, gives kisses on request, waves “hi” and cheers when given praise. He looks at himself in a mirror, says “hi” to his reflection and then gives it kisses. He loves having the attention of adults and will get sad when his therapy time is done. He loves to listen to music and sings along with the songs. He can perform some of the motions to dances and loves to dance along with any music. He is learning the names of his body parts, will show his teeth when asked if they are clean after brushing and will gesture with his hand when asked to show that he is “this big”. His speech is delayed, but he can say over 10 words. He pronounces a lot of sound combinations and his speech is continuing to develop. He mimics words and 2 word phrases and is beginning to put words together in questions and sentences. He’s had a significant gain in his verbal expression in the past 6 months. He is working very hard to learn to feed himself independently and is successful at feeding himself with a spoon. He needs minimal assistance. He drinks independently from an open cup. He plays well with other children.
Additional photos are available.
Because we only have this child's file for a short time, he will not be able to receive donations until a family is found for him.

Girl, Born March 2000
What a sweet girl! Alexis is already 11 years old and confined to a wheelchair. She was born with arthrogryposis, and all of her limbs are affected. She is described as friendly and social, and she really wants a family of her own. She is blessed to be in an institution where she is loved and has access to outside aid organization help. MORE PHOTOS AVAILABLE, MARRIED COUPLES ONLY.
From her medical records: F 70; Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Q 74.3; tetraparesis; Mild mental delay F 70
More photos and videos available.
From an adoptive family who visited with her in January 2012: "We have GOT to help Alexis get a family- she was there (I talked to her) she's so sweet and funny and played so nicely with the other kids, even the younger ones. But she watched us with …sad eyes- she was so longing for a family of her own, you could see it all over her face.
This would make a great place to adopt from- it is an amazing orphanage IMO. The kids were playing, toys were out and being used (we sat with about 12 Barbies on a couch lol) and the kids are so happy. Hubby and I both said- out of all the kids we met,/saw, we saw no noticeable attachment issues, even though they're all older kids. We saw several that are listed. If you want me to write a little blurb update, I will. We were really impressed with the level of care the staff had too. They were very nice and very glad to see our daughter getting a family.
I watched her today at lunch (we were invited in to feed our daughter). She is of short stature- probably no taller than the average 8 yr old, and I'm not sure if this is due to the arthrogryposis or not, because she shares some features that I have seen in dwarfism as well (proportion, etc). But, her hands and feet are affected, however, she fed herself and even drank from her cup unassisted. She is very talented with adapting her physical structure to the task at hand and seems quite able to do so easily. She even rolls her own wheelchair down the hall some, but loves playing with the nanny to push her and let her go fast. She's very easygoing and quick to laugh and I really think she'd thrive having a family of her own."
INTERESTED FAMILIES MUST BE HOME STUDY APPROVED prior to a commitment for Alexis. Married couples only, larger families and older parents ok, travel required.

This little girl is active — we're told she’s got lots of "get-up-and-go!" Zoey is also described as big-hearted
and she certainly looks like she's got a lot of personality!
She is said to have allergies, but they're not sure what she is allergic to. She has heart disease: an atrial septal defect; pulmonary artery stenosis, and circulatory insufficiency. She also has an umbilical hernia (so common in children with Down syndrome), and hypotrophy of tonsils, adenoids (so she'll probably need those out when she comes home).

Sibling Group – 2 brothers

Charlie: Boy, born 2/14/07
This exceptionally gorgeous child is the younger biological brother to Joel, who is also available for adoption. As a four year old this little boy loves to learn and is considered a quick learner! He currently lives in a foster home in Hong Kong and enjoys running and learning to ride a bicycle. He is learning to speak English in his classroom, enjoys Disney cartoons and likes to play with cars. Due to his diagnosis of developmental delay, language delay and autistic features he does not do well transitioning from one activity to another. He is attached to his foster family and has made significant progress since his placement into this setting. He is observed to be a serious learner at school and there is no doubt that he has lots of potential. In view of his previous change of caregivers and his insecure behaviors with his foster family he is definitely in need of a stable and nurturing forever family who can provide him with unfailing love and security, along with firm and consistent parenting as well as professional support. It is believed that this little boy's potential can be fully reached in a permanent family and he would be a tremendous blessing to them as well!
Joel: Boy, born 4/25/05
This adorable six year old boy is the sibling to Charlie and they would love to be adopted together! His handsome face and sweet smile make him a popular child in his facility. He is generally healthy and is described by his caregivers as an easy going child who is quiet, gentle and compliant most of the time. His gross motor development is appropriate to his age. Despite a diagnosis of autism this little guy appears comfortable when communicating with others. He is especially good at math and enjoys writing both his numbers and some words. He loves to play outdoors and has strong friendships with other children and adults alike. Although he has been diagnosed with a mild grade mental retardation, this sweet boy has shown his strength in Mathematics and his development in this area seem age appropriate. In view of his autistic features it is inevitable that he is relatively weak at eye contact and social skills and both will need to be enhanced by a stable family life and community therapies. He is in need of a nurturing family who can provide him with unconditional love and care as well as firm and consistent parenting. It is believed this little boy will blossom and excel in a family setting.

Gracie #40-5
DOB: 2009
Diagnosis: Down syndrome, hypothyroidism, possible hearing loss
Gracie is 2 years old. She has hypothyroidism, which is controlled with medication. Her medical report indicates that she has difficulty hearing. However, it is very common for children with Down syndrome that are in orphanages to have fluid build up in their ears. Gracie's report does not indicate any type of formal evaluation of her hearing, just observations. It is very possible that with proper treatment, her hearing will be normal. Despite these things, Gracie is developing well. She's making sound combinations such as "ba-ba" in an effort to talk, she responds to praise and cheers when she does something well, she's playing with toys and beginning to take steps independently. She eats from a spoon and drinks from an open cup. The orphanage has already begun to toilet train her too! She is sitting on the toilet in an effort to schedule train her.
The available photo is from when she was a baby. Newer photos will be available soon.

According to the birth family, the results of the OPD follow-up reflected normal results. Since her placement in the orphanage, there have been no abnormal findings. Cassandra was diagnosed with Moderate Mental Developmental Delay on March 22, 2010 and Speech Development Delay, which is suspected to have resulted from insufficient mouth chewing stimulation. She received therapy for these conditions from a developmental center from August 2010 to September 2010. Since her subsequent placement at an orphanage, she has continued to receive speech, occupational, and physical therapies. Her development is progressing and she has been attending kindergarten since January 2011.

HIV
Walker is diagnosed with HIV and he was originally reported to have hepititis C, but we are told that he does NOT have a hepatitis diagnosis anymore.
He is being treated: his last HIV and hepatitis related tests are normal; his HIV viral load is low; his hepatitis viral load is undetectable. His motor and psychological development is according to his age group. His physical development is delayed due to the fact that he is always hospitalized.
Walker is a charming kid; he was a ward of the head of the pulmonologist unit in the hospital. His foster parent took good care of him, paid for his very expensive tests, vaccinations, treatments, and even contacted his biological mother to ask her whether she ever had tuberculosis.
Walker is a very happy and a radiant kid! He is "honey-sweet" with a healthy glow on his cheeks and beautiful huge brown eyes. He is sensitive and responsive: life-loving child with radiant smile; he rarely cries. Since he spent most of his short life in the hospital, he has some deficiencies; he can, however, sit and stand with support, hold his bottle, and eat from spoon if fed by adult. He babbles actively, mimics expressively and communicates emotionally. Walker has an “open heart” and welcomes any kind of communication; he is not shy of strangers. He loves attention, and, when he receives it, he laughs and screams with joy! He appreciates toys, especially those making musical sounds; he studies them carefully. He is always happy to be picked up by an adult, loves to cuddle, and is constantly awaiting attention of adults. When an adult leaves his room, he feels hurt, becomes upset and cries. Walker's appetite is very good, and he sleeps peacefully.

The results of electrocardiogram, ultra sound innovations of heart and abdominal cavity – no pathology.
Physical development is in accordance with her age. She has the delay of speech development, but it's because of the pedagogical neglection (while she was in the family) and not because of any damage of central nervous system.

Crystal had difficulty breathing at birth and received medical treatment in the hospital. She was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and ASD. Present Care: Terrence has been under the care of the present foster family since November 2010. He has smooth adjustment to the foster home and bonds closely with the family particularly the foster mother.
Present Development: Terrence is a happy, responsive and curious 16-month old child. He can sit well and stand steadily. He can hold the milk bottle firmly. He can hold a spoon steadily and is learning to feed himself but assistance is still required to finish a meal. He is a very sweet boy and keeps good eye contact with people. Although he is delayed in speech development, he babbles a lot. He enjoys playing with baby toys, watching TV and going out to the park. According to the foster mother, Terrence is an easy-to-care infant. At present, he takes 2 meals of congee mixed with meat and vegetable and 3 meals of milk each day.
Health Condition: Although Terrence is diagnosed with Down syndrome, G6PD deficiency and mild tricuspid regurgitation, his general health condition is stable and satisfactory. According to the doctor at a recent follow up appointment, his heart condition has much improved. While he easily suffers from flu and coughing, the doctor did not consider this as a concern. No visual or hearing problem is indicated and no special diet or special medical attention is required in his daily living. Currently, he is receiving physiotherapy and is being waitlisted for early education and training.

ABIhkziye–Down Syndrome
Oh my stars, this little one is squishy! Sweet Zechariah needs a loving family of his own. Zechariah has been staying in the hospital since July 2010 and is awaiting residential placement.
Present Development: After birth, he was found to have Downs syndrome, heart problems of foramen ovale and patent ductus arteriosis and transient myelopliferative disease. He was then diagnosed to have Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in August 2010. Having received medical treatment and chemotherapy, he responded well to the treatments. The bone marrow assessment conducted in November 2010 indicated that the AML is in remission. He was fit for discharge in February 2011 and has been waiting for residential placement.
Zechariah is cheerful and cute with two dimples. He smiles to people visiting him at his crib and is loved by medical staff in his ward. He receives many gifts from them, such as bibs, clothes, biscuits, baby food etc. Because of squinting, he needs to wear a pair of corrective glasses. However, wearing them for a short period of time, he takes them off.
Presently, he stands up from his bed by grasping the rail of his crib. He walks when he was taken by hands. He loves playing with peoples, smiling happily and only cries occasionally. Usually he sits on his bed and looks at the person who approaches his bed in order to get his / her attentions. When medical staff is busy, he stays quietly in his crib. Zechariah becomes excited and claps his hands when he hears music and songs. He manages to eat a piece of biscuit and hold the milk bottle. Knowing that there is sound coming out from an audio toy, he hits the button. He responds well to sound and people and gets along well with other children and their parents in the ward. When the social worker left and said goodbye to him, he waved bye-bye and sent a “flying kiss” to the worker. Presently, he only babbles.

Makayla is 10 years old. This is a very recent photo of her. She is VERY small for her age. She is currently living in an orphanage where the children receive only the most basic care with very few opportunities to improve their development. At the age of ten, she is 42 inches tall and weighs just 22 pounds. As a result of the Marshall syndrome, she developed cataracts in both eyes in 2010. Her birth parents have not consented to the eye surgery, so the cataracts are untreated at this time.
Makayla can sit up and walk independently. She is not yet talking, but she is very interested in everything that is going on around her. She is described as a very sweet and happy child. When awake, she spends her day in her crib or on the floor with other younger children. She plays with toys and shows a preference toward her favorite toys. At night, when it's time for bed, she puts all the toys away.
There is a volunteer that comes to the orphanage each day and spends time with her. Makayla likes to go on walks with this person. She seeks out other children for interactions and she's established relationships with the adults that care for her. Additional photos and videos of Makayla are available.

His past diagnosis includes profound mental retardation, hearing impairment, epilepsy, chronic renal impairment and recurrent aspiration pneumonia and tube feedings. Although his needs appear great the rewards for loving this little one are countless for the family destined to be his.

This gorgeous three year old toddler with Down Syndrome likes to be held and cuddled. She enjoys playing with her caregivers and is described by them as cute, contented and a very calm girl. She has global developmental delays and is making progress with her therapies. Given her special needs she has made tremendous progress in the last few months. Her hearing is normal and she enjoys interacting with her speech therapist. She is happy when playing with water and enjoys her baths for this reason. We would like to introduce this little sweetheart to you all! She is a beautiful 1.5-year-old with Down syndrome and congenital heart disease. She is a cheerful and curious little girl, who captures the heart of many staff and volunteers at the hospital. She is in need of night-time oxygen and gastrotomy feeding at the moment. She has been staying in the hospital since she was born and is currently waiting for more permanent residential placement. Her cardiac prognosis is good. It is planned that after her tonsillectomy surgery in October, 2011 she will be able to move into a residential home while she waits for her forever family to find her. Hopefully she will be able to be weaned from the oxygen at night after her surgery. She is urgently in need of a loving adoptive family who is willing to commit and embrace her as their daughter! Her resilient spirit and cheerful demeanor would make her an easy baby to love!!

Calista has a heart condition (a defect of chamber divider) and it is not indicated if surgery will be in her future or not. She also has an infection of the urinary tract, and Pyelectasis of both kidneys. Fetal Pyelectasis is common in babies with Down syndrome — and is likely the cause of her urinary tract issue, as well.
'Suzanna' was born in October 2004. She loves the summer and the flowers. She is very inquisitive and she is drawn to all of the caregivers and specialists in the orphanage. One caregiver said "I feel she lacks maternal warmth here. She is desperately searching for it. No matter how many people are trying to provide it here, I would prefer if she would find it in a family." She is an exotic beauty with a beautiful name, but she is still waiting in an orphanage because she is living with HIV.
Ethan was born in September 2004. He is an orphanage favorite and gets glowing reports from everyone who meets him. People smile just talking about him. At first he is shy with unfamiliar adults and then he warms up and is very happy and friendly. He is a lovely child, just wonderful! All of the other children adore him, too. He is a very obedient boy. He is sunny, smiling and beautiful. It is clear that he is a shining star who will do very well in a family. He is patient, kind, loving and compassionate. He has HIV and seems to be doing very well developmentally.

Girl, born 2009
Diagnosis: Cystic Fibrosis, caloric-malnutrition
Braska has an older brother who also has CF. The children are in the same orphanage and must be adopted together. We are currently awaiting updated information on the brother.
Braska has CF. She also has problems with her digestion and absorption of nutrients and is on a high calorie diet as a result. She currently takes the medications, Creon and Linex to assist with these issues, which are believed to be contributed to the CF.
Braska is developing well for her young age. She walks independently, crouches, sits and stands up on her own. She goes up and down stairs with support. She can throw a ball in a box. She draws vertical and horizontal lines with a pencil. She folds paper. Her speech is emerging. She pronounces combinations of sounds and syllables and will imitate short words. She follows verbal directions. She plays with toys. She enjoys playing hide-and-seek. She likes to dance while listening to music. She interacts with other children and adults appropriately. She laughs out loud when teased. She seeks out help from an adult when she needs it.

Marley is physically healthy, with no known medical conditions. She is very small for her age. She can walk, run, go up and down steps, climb, swing, etc. There are no delays with her gross motor skills. Her fine motor skills are mildly delayed. She still needs some assistance with zippers and buttons when putting on clothes. She can put on her shoes independently if they Velcro. She can not tie them. She can undress herself and feed herself with a spoon. She colors with crayons, though that activity does not interest her and she will quickly begin to play with the crayons in other ways (stacking them up). She recognizes other children and adults and can identify them by name. She says “hello” when someone enters the room. She can say some words and also sings songs. She follows verbal directions when they are given. She imitates the desired motions during games and songs. She has recently started throwing toys when she doesn’t get her way. She has also started getting extremely upset when she doesn’t get her way and will bang her head and throw a fit.

Jeremiah's mother died shortly after birth. He has a father and grandmother who love him dearly. With his special needs, they do not feel they can continue to care for Jeremiah at home. They love to visit him when they are able.
Jeremiah has bilateral cataracts. He is believed to be mostly blind (may see some light). He was born with imperforated anus, but that has since repaired itself.
From someone who works with him: Jeremiah is such a happy go lucky little boy. He is always in a good mood and loves to play. His nannies often brag about how good of a baby he is. They say he eats well, sleeps well, and plays well. They all love him dearly! Jeremiah recently (Aug 2011) learned how to crawl. I didn't think it was possible for Jeremiah to be any happier, but now that he is mobile he appears to be even happier than I have ever seen before! He can pull himself up to stand and loves to bounce. I'm sure it won't be long before Jeremiah is walking and talking! He already babbles nonstop and loves to make noise. If Jeremiah is awake, it's guaranteed he is "talking!" He loves to hear his little voice. Jeremiah loves to play with toys and often holds them in front of his face. His Dad and Grandma come to visit him very often, and although he is young, he still seems to be bonded with them. Jeremiah loves to be held and given attention. He is an amazing little boy who is capable of so much! It's been amazing to see how far this little guy has come over the few months that he has been in our care. I'm confident he's going to continue to amaze us as he reaches more and more developmental stages! He truly is one of the happiest babies I know!

Evie was born in May 2010. She does not have any siblings. She is a calm baby. Poor baby had a heat rash or eczema when this photo was taken but her skin has reportedly cleared up now. We also have a baby photo of her with clear skin. She is the youngest child we have come across with HIV. She has also tested positive for antibodies to hepatitis C which means that her birthmother definitely had HepC, although it is unclear without an RNA test if Evie has it or not. She was born pre-term and had ischemic hypoxic affliction (lack of oxygen), which is apparently common for newborn children to need oxygen.
Update Fall 2011: Evie has had great improvements with her skin condition; she is beautiful!

Joshua has HIV and HSV/CMV. He can be adopted with other unrelated children in the region. He is in a 'psychoneurological' baby house which means he will most likely be transferred to a mental institute if he doesn't have a family by age 4. This is a decent baby house. The nannies are caring. The children have access to outdoor play, physical therapy play equipment and a sensory room. The children here have access to ARV medication and see a specialist doctor twice per year. Additional photos and video available.
From a recent adoptive family:
This little guy seems stoic at first. It took him a little while to warm up to us and show his true personality. Once he was comfortable with us, he started smiling and laughing. He wanted to run and play with us and be picked up and cuddled. He is not demanding of attention at all. He would walk up to us and wait his turn for some love and attention. He loved sitting on my lap and being rocked and held and sang to and he snuggles right in. He is quiet and shy and has a tranquil demeanor. He has so much potential but I think he goes unnoticed in this environment because he is so easy-going and laid back. The nannies are busy with the more high-maintenance children so he doesn't seem to get a lot of attention.

A recent adoptive family has reported their daughter's transition to be exceptionally smooth. Evie has several medical diagnoses, but she is actually not affected by many of them in her day to day life. She was diagnosed with Fraley Sundrome, but a detailed report in her medical records show that her kidneys are both functioning perfectly. Her cerebral palsy appears to effect her lower limbs and she receives massages and physical therapy. She can pull to a stand and take steps, though she attempts to walk on her toes. She is being encouraged to learn to crawl, to strengthen her core muscles. She plays with toys, interacts with other children and responds to her name. She receives speech therapy and she's begining to make sounds and repeat syllables. She reacts with with displeasure when she's told no and cheers when she's praised (sounds like a typical 2 year old to me!). She eats with a spoon. She maintains eye contact with adults and enjoys it when they play with her. She plays with toys and mainpulates them in order to get them to work. She smiles at the other children and will sit amongst a group of children and play.

Diagnosis: lagging behind in development, coloboma of both eyes
Zaidlyn is lagging behind in all areas of her development. Her vision issues are said to not effect her interactions in her environment. She is walking, feeding herself and drinking from a cup. She understands everything being said to her, responds to her name and follows basic directions. She turns to look when adults are talking. She interacts with toys, particularly those that are cause-effect type toys. She understands how to manipulate toys (turn them on/off, etc) and will seek out help if she can not get a toy to work. Her play skills were said to be at the level of a one year old when she was 3 years old. She makes sounds and some word approximations but does not yet have meaningful speech. She seeks out the attention of adults and wants to interact with them. She prefers to play alone and just watch other children, though she will compete for the attention of an adult.
Calvin is HIV+. He is not on ARV’s at this time.
From someone who works with him (updated Oct 2011):
Calvin is such a sweet talkative little boy. For living in a biolingual environment, we are daily amazed by how well his language skills have improved over the short time he has lived here. He loves to play and is all boy. Some of his favorite activites are pool days, playing on the play ground, and ball day. He loves to get dirty and have fun. Calvin is not scared of the water at all and puts his face right down in it! He radiates with joy as he plays! He has a beautiful little smile and cute dimples! Calvin loves to help people. If you ask him where someone is he will walk you around the baby house until he helps you find them. Calvin has made many improvements in the time we have known him. He still has fits, but they are few and far in between. When he does have them they don't last nearly as long as they used to. A lot of his fits revolve around food. Calvin gets along great with the other kids here. He plays well and loves to include everyone. Calvin loves to go to preschool and can't seem to learn enough! He also loves nanny prayer and singing time. We love watching him clap his hands to the beat of the music and dance up and down the hallway as his nannies sign loudly in Creole! Calvin loves to sing. It's not uncommon to hear him leading the other kids his age in songs. They sing in both English and Creole and will even do the hand motions occasionally! Calvin is so much fun to be around and we just love him dearly! He's incredibly intelligent and always up for an adventure.

Abel is very tiny for his age and weighs 17.5lbs and is 30 inches tall. He came to us very malnourished and seems to be taking a really long time to catch up in weight and developmental milestones. We do not have access to the right medical care to figure out what is causing his failure to grow and his delayed development. Abel can now crawl and because of a wonderful gift from a visiting medical group, Abel was gifted with AFO’s. They were able to assess his low muscle tone and said that he should wear the AFO’s for 6 hours as day to help his weak ankles. He showed immediate improvement and was able to stand unassisted for a few moments (while holding on for balance). He even took a few short steps!

Thalia is HIV+
From someone who works with her: Thalia is an incredibly smart little girl. She is really shy and reserved which makes it difficult to get to know her true personality at first. At preschool she does really well sitting in circle time and sings along with and does hand motions to all of her favorite songs. She can respond to the question "what is your name" which is a new skill we are trying to teach all of the kids. Thalia does really well playing with toys if an adult is playing with her, but as soon as the adult leaves, she will quit playing and follows them. Thalia doesn't run up to new people and demand attention like many of the other children. Instead she sits back with the nannies that she knows and waits for people to approach her. Some times she will refuse to go with someone she doesn't know and will throw a fit if they try to take her. Other times she goes with them just fine. Thalia has a really strong bond with one of our nannies. Thalia will often choose to sit with this lady rather than participating in the activities that the other children are doing. It is very encouraging to see that she has this bond and that she is so comfortable around Bouta, her nanny. Thalia loves to play with peg puzzles and is really good at putting the pieces in. You have to work to get her to smile as she is a little more reserved, but when she does, she has a beautiful little smile. Often if Thalia is happy, she will just give you a smirk instead of a full smile. She enjoys playing on the play ground and going down the slide. Thalia tries her hardest to follow directions and be a good girl. On the way to and from preschool the children hold on to a rope which helps keep them all together and teaches them how to stay in a line. Thalia is devoted to hold on to this rope even though it's a challenge for her. Thalia is a very slow walker and often can't keep up with the others, but regardless she never lets go. I played with blocks with Thalia the other day, and was surprised to see that she could stack 6 on top of each other even though she has never played with this toy before. Thalia is doing really well developmentally and is right on target. Her language skills are a bit behind, but this is very common among our children.

Kenny is HIV+
From someone who works with him:
Kenny is an amazing little boy who steals many people’s hearts. He is always smiling and in a great mood. Kenny is all “boy” and always up for an adventure. He loves to play on the play ground and go down the slide; on his belly and backwards of course! Kenny enjoys being held and cuddled with, but he would prefer to play. He doesn't really seem to have any real fears, not even the dogs, which many of the kids are. Kenny does occasionally throw fits, but not as bad as he used to. These fits usually occur if he wants to be held and is put down, or if he see some of his friends leaving for a special activity and he isn't included. Kenny loves prayer and singing time and dances and claps his hands to the music. He loves to play with toys and puts everything in his mouth. Kenny thoroughly enjoys pool day and has a giant smile on his face the entire time. He likes to dump water from one toy to the other. He splashes and runs from one pool to the other. Kenny plays well with the other children and seems to have a lot of friends. I see Kenny as a leader in the baby house. He loves to explore and is often wandering away from the rest of the group to come hang out with the volunteers. Kenny is a good eater and is getting so big. Developmentally he is doing really well and right where he should be.

William has constant alternating strabismus (crossed eyes). He has experienced one seizure during his time at the infant care facility. He is being treated with anti-seizure medication but would benefit from testing to properly diagnose these seizures. Wilson's knees hyperextend making it difficult for him to balance, but he has recently learned to walk.

From somone who works with him:
William is doing so well developmentally. I cannot believe how much he has changed in the year that I have known him. None of us knew if he would ever be able to walk, and we are now all amazed at the fact that he is not only doing that, but other developmentally appropriate tasks as well! William is beginning to interact with the other children and adults here. He used to be in his own little world, but now actually notices them and what they are doing. The other day at ball day, I was observing William and was amazed at what I saw. He was watching one of the other children who kept picking up and throwing balls. Each time this child threw a ball; William would laugh in delight and clap his hands. He also likes to cuddle and interact with adults more than he used to. During prayer and singing time, he will walk over to adults, lay his head in their laps, and stay with them through the entire thing. William loves to explore and is always on the go. When the other kids are out playing on the playground, William is normally walking all over the compound. Someone is constantly chasing after him to bring him back. He will often sneak out of the baby house and make his way over to the volunteer house, coming right in as if he were invited! William's motor movements seem to be improving as well. He seems to have better control over his hands. He loves balls and if there is ever one around William is playing with it. He loves to kick them. I could see him playing soccer some day. William still crawls occasionally, normally backwards and with his head on the ground, but not nearly as often as he used to. Now he mainly walks when he wants to go somewhere. The changes he has and is continuing to make are an inspiration to us all. I can only dream about how much he will improve in his skills when he gets appropriate therapy and someone who knows how to work with him every day! He is such a sweet heart and is always so happy and laughs and smiles all the time!
