June 9, 2014 marks the 8th anniversary of the creation of Reece’s Rainbow as an adoption advocacy foundation for orphans with Down syndrome and other special needs.  More than *1500* children have found forever families, and we have disbursed more than $8 million in adoption grant funding to get those children HOME.   We’ve been featured in People Magazine three times, honored as a Congressional Angel in Adoption, and highlighted in powerful video segments with Diane Sawyer and Glenn Beck.

kidsinflags2But none of these amazing results could have happened without YOU.  Donations to our Voice of Hope fund are what keep Reece’s Rainbow serving and GROWING.  We maximize every dollar by operating on less than 10% each year!  We thank you for your continued support and hope you will share this special celebration of FAMILY, FUTURE, and FREEDOM!

Boy, Born January 20, 2004
NEW UPDATE!: What a blessing to still have visibility of Kirill, and know he is still fighting for a chance and waiting for his family to come for him. He is regressing, as he is given little opportunity to stretch or be mobile at all. He needs help for the strength to sit up now, but even still he wears a smile and a light in his eyes. There is a loving, forever family out there for this boy! This spunky little angel is ready to melt your heart! Kiril has blonde hair and hazel eyes, and a smile that can light up a room! He was born with cerebral palsy. One of our own adoptive families who visited with him in March 2008 said this about Kiril: ” I’m a sucker for blondies and this little guy with his green-brown eyes is adorable! He smiled and wanted to interact with me when I came into the room despite the cries of his neighbor. His smiles were brief but heartwarming and then he was curious about what I was up to. Each time the camera flashed he rewarded it with a great grin! Except it was always right AFTER the flash so I couldn’t capture his sweet smile.”

From his medical records: infantile cerebral paralysis, double hemiplegia, epilepsy, optic nerve atrophy, multiple cardiopathies, contracture of hip and knee joints

As with all children living in these difficult conditions, this child’s cognitive development has regressed significantly since he/she was younger. It is of crucial importance that any family considering the adoption of an older child from the mental institution setting be well prepared for what to expect with regards to how the neglect and lack of adequate medical care and nourishment has affected this child. These children all have TREMENDOUS potential for improvement, and deserve to have a life outside these four walls.

HELP, I HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED!!

Boy, Born September 2004

Nolan is such a handsome boy!  He needs a loving family!

From his medical records:  long-term effects of some early trauma (right-side hemiparesis), mild mental delays, seizures, flat feet, farsightedness

He has fine motor skills, understands everything, he talks but it is hard to understand him.  Nolan is very physically active, happy and cooperative, friends with other children.   A family living in the states who has 3 children, one who is significantly disabled, has taken a special interest in Nolan but cannot add Nolan to their own family due to the needs of their children. Per the family, “Nolan’s eyes and smile caught our heart. He is close in age to one of our own children. We hope this gift will enable someone to give Nolan the chance to live outside an institution.”

Congenital Heart Defect / delays

Liam is a precious 2 year old boy with a very interesting congenital condition, dextrocardia.  His heart is pointed to the right side of his chest, instead of to the left. His liver is also on the left side. (Liam has the more common type that also includes issues with his heart; we have a report in his file.) His heart condition has affected his development; his motor skills and speech are delayed. As of last August, he was sitting up, and could crawl in his bed, but was not pulling up to stand.

Liam really needs to have surgery on his heart so he will have the ability to do everything his peers are able to do! He is a very curious little boy, who takes in all that is happening around him. A smart little guy, for sure! Liam would love to have someone read to him. This little one needs a very special family who will help him get the surgery he needs…so he can become a strong little boy who can run, jump and play with his friends!

Braden 2013 (1)Boy, born September 2006

Mental delays, dysontogenetic cardiopathy, convergent squint, umbilical hernia.

Braden lived with his mother until her death before entering the orphanage last year (2011). You can tell he was LOVED and taken care for. He is doing quite well compared to many of the other children which is attributed to being in a family versus institution. Who knows how much he could improve with the love of a family!  He also has a caregiver he has attached to.

He is a mobile child and very active. He tries to walk himself. He understand what most people are talking about but he can’t talk in sentences. He can pronounce some words.  He can’t service himself, need assistance to eat.  He tries to hold a spoon in his hands.  He recognizes his caregivers and can follow simple instructions.  These are all GOOD things!

Update June 2013:
Braden is a very sweet little guy. He is very controlled in his movement and behavior. He understands what you say to him and he responds to directions. He comes highly recommended for adoption by his orphanage as they have seen much progress and potential for him.

He appeared to get along well with the others in the groupa, and always seemed to be smiling when we saw him. His sweet personality, smile, and demeanor captured our hearts. He was very capable of self care and even performed in a play while we were there. Reece’s Rainbow is a  registered 501(c)3 charity which advocates and fundraises for the international adoption and rescue of children with Down syndrome, and other special needs.    We are not an adoption agency, we are only a connecting point for these children to their “forever families”.   Reece’s Rainbow serves as a VOICE OF HOPE for these children who are languishing in orphanages and mental institutions around the world, when there are literally hundreds of families here in the US and Canada who would rescue them if only the funds were available to do so!!

Grant funds from individual donations make the cost of adopting these beautiful children affordable for interested families.  In less than five years, we have found adoptive families for 1100+ children in countries around the world.  We still have over 1000 waiting children with special needs on our site who are in need of adoptive families.

Boy, Born August 16, 2003
Down syndrome

Glenn has blonde hair and blue eyes.  He has Down syndrome, and struggles with the effects of FAS.   With this comes strabismus and a valvular heart defect.  Despite this, he is doing well, mobile and active and friendly.

Updated 2012:

Sweet Glenn is such a love! Despite multiple medical conditions he is doing pretty well!   He loves to hug and understands commands. His finger motor skills are not well developed. He can eat and use the bathroom independently. He is currently not speaking very much but it does not sound like he attends any speech therapy. He does need help changing his clothes but he is practicing!

This little guy could greatly use a family to help stimulate his speech and his fine motor skills.

Boy, Born September 1999
HIV

From our facilitator who has visited with him: Vlad is very healthy and has the most striking green eyes! His life story is very typical. The boy doesn’t have brothers and sisters, the mother died. Super boy. Physically developed perfectly well. By the fact very healthy, practically never ill. He is very fond of English, reads children stories without a dictionary, speaks good English. The boy is very communicative, always optimistic. He is very supportive with friends and very polite and obedient with the teachers and caregivers. Dreams about obtaining a family.

***Vlad is also an OLDER CHILD, and will have no opportunities if he ages out. His “orphan and HIV status” will follow him the rest of her life. Please give Vlad a chance to grow up knowing the love of a family and having basic the opportunities that he deserves. ***
