Lyla
Girl, born August 2007
PRC
Learning delays/low IQ
Lyla is a beautiful little girl who is 5 years old. She came into care just last August, and was found to be a normal, healthy little girl who was developmentally on target. She adapted to the orphanage life quickly. She was “tested” after being at the orphanage only 3 months, and they said she had ”clear pronunciation, fluent, restless, no abnormal action, flexible hands and feet, understand general objects and use of some objects, poor initiative action”…then they slapped her file with a low IQ number. Lyla can speak in full sentences, understands directions, cares for her needs, helps out with the children younger than she is, and is a delightful little girl. She attends kindergarten and lives with a foster family.
Lyla loves to play games, loves to go to school, and is a very happy little girl. I am not sure what they expect of her as far as “initiative” is concerned…but considering the changes in her life these past months, she seems to be doing very well! Lyla needs a family to love her, and enjoy every minute of having this sweet girl as their daughter.
Connor James
Boy, born April 2012
PRC
Down syndrome
When Connor came into the orphanage at two weeks old he was examined and found to be a normal healthy baby boy. At two months old caretakers noticed that his weight was not increasing. They enhanced his nutrition and supplemented his formula. Connor’s original report done when he was just 4 months old had no official diagnosis but a recent update from his orphanage after his first birthday indicates Connor has Down Syndrome.
He is babbling and enjoys his time with the nannies. He is able to pick up and play with toys. They say he is crawling but not yet sitting up himself or pulling up to stand. Several pictures and a video are available from the agency.
Darcy
Girl, born March 2005
PRC
HIV+
She has studies in grade one, and did well in all subjects; she is a clever child who loves to study; she gets along well with other children. Now she knows to take care of young brothers and sisters, and would help the aunts to wash tableware and sweep the floor when she is back home; she is polite to people; every time when the guests come, she would say hello to them; she is fond of playing alone, is talkative, fond of drawing, doing math problems and dancing.
Isabella

Girl, born December 2006
PRC
Down syndrome, CHD
Isabella lives with a foster family. Her best friend recently found a family, and we so hope Isabella finds a family soon, too!
She gets along well with her friends and foster brother and is quite good at sharing her toys as well as her food. Isabella does speak some words but needs more practice, and does not yet speak in full sentences. However, she understands everything “Grandma” says to her and can follow instructions. Isabella does everything she is asked to do and never makes trouble!
When Isabella finds things funny, she smiles and laughs with delight. Because there are no schools for children with Down Syndrome in her village, Isabella does not go to school. However, her Down Syndrome has not kept her from learning to become independent. She is able to eat , change clothes, and use the bathroom — all by herself! Isabella is also able to run and climb, and she especially likes to play with her toy truck.
$1646.04 is available towards the cost of my adoption!
Tina

Girl, born Feb 2009
PRC
Down syndrome,Postoperative CHD (VSD after repair)
Sweet little Tina! She understands simple questions, answers with single words. She can sit, crawl, and walk, but she’s not stable yet, in her walking (report seems to be from mid-2012).
Jackson

Boy, born August 2007
PRC
Limb difference
Jackson is a bright and cute child; he can touch you with his small hand to express his attitude. He likes to smile, and he is also fond of music.
He’s missing his left foot, which is his only special need, but now since he spends most of his time in his crib, he hasn’t learned to do anything. He isn’t toilet trained and he doesn’t even feed himself; he is used to having everything done for him. What this little guy needs is a prosthetic and a patient, loving family.
Update June 2013:
The boy is said to be very obedient and follows instructions well. He can understand what the nannies say but cannot talk. He cannot walk like normal people. If you give him something, he can use his foot to pick it up. He is not potty trained yet and is still on diapers. He walks with his knees, puts on and off his clothes by himself. He does not eat solid food, only congee. Overall, they think he is delayed and they think he has low IQ. They are not sure if it is because of the poor conditions in the orphanage (it is a poor orphanage) or because he was born that way.
Leah
Girl, born January 2010
PRC
Down syndrome
Leah is an active and curious little girl. According to her foster mom she is higher functioning compared to other children with the same special need. She is able to say, “mama, pa, and DADADA.’ Leah sleeps well and is not fussy about the foods served to her. She does not have a bad temper, but can become annoyed if one does not allow her to grab things you are holding. (2012)
Amelia 16G

Girl
DOB September 2009
Amelia is a very beautiful girl with long dark eyelashes. She has a warm and pleasant smile and appears to be an orphanage favorite. Additional photos & video available. She is in a ‘psychoneurological baby house even though she seems to be developing normally. Amelia has HIV. The caregivers are very loving toward the children in the HIV ward. A recent adoptive family has reported their daughter’s transition to be exceptionally smooth. The children in the orphanage have access to outdoor play, physical therapy play equipment, and a sensory room. She is in a small group so the caregiver to child ratio is good. She receives plenty of food, but rarely fresh fruits or fresh vegetables. The children in her orphanage have access to ARV medications and see a specialist doctor twice per year.

Zion
Boy, born January 2001
PRC
This young man has mild spina bifida. He is able to walk, and run and fully care for himself. His right foot is turned outwards and may need surgery in the future. His condition affects him in no other ways.
He is attending his last year of primary school where his results are considered average and have improved recently. Zion is living in a community group home and is doing well in that community. In the past he was in foster care, but when he was disrupted from the family he was emotional and found it difficult. Slowly his heart has been healing, it is believed that he would do even better in a loving family that was stable and consistent and forever.
He only has just over 2 years till he is no longer eligible for adoption, so finding a family for him is urgent.
Alban
Boy, born Dec 2008
PRC
Diagnoses: congenital hydrocephalus, spina bifida
VP shunt to drain fluid from the brain to the abdominal cavity, and he has had the spinal repair for the SB. Also “resection of lipoma outside dura mater of sacroiliac” – which likely means he had a fatty benign tumor removed.
Alban is a funny little guy, always willing to help. He has a ready smile and a laugh that makes you laugh right along with him. He loves to sing and dance and be paid attention to. All his nannies adore him and wish him a family. He loves to eat but especially noodles and greens.

At this time, his physical development is delayed compared to the other children and he does show signs of cynosis. The orphanage has been able to provide him with early intervention every day and he has shown positive signs from this. He has greatly improved and has quick reactions. He always has a ready smile and likes being cuddled. Ben can crawl on his hands and knees and can walk with one hand held. He understands simple directions and can point out his nose and ears. He is a beautiful baby who needs a loving family who can help him come home.
Channah

DOB: Sept 9, 2002
PRC
Special need: cerebral palsy
Though she was diagnosed to have mental delays, it’s been noted that it’s like orphanage delays in general. She does will in day-to-day tasks. In the orphanage, she has much less education and very rare contact with the outside world compared to other children of same age.
She has been attending the special education class in the orphanage. Yet, she will go to the local special education school in mid-September.
She enjoys playing with balls, listening to music and dancing. She doesn’t like being ignored. She likes pink and green, and she likes wearing dresses.
She can walk and go upstairs with no problem. Every day she dresses up, takes the bath, eats and sorts out the bedding by herself. She can fully take care of herself.
Additional photos and video available.
Moses
Boy, born May 2000
PRC
Dwarfism, Complex heart condition, deaf
Moses loves getting his picture taken and always has a smile ready. Even though he can’t hear or speak, he enjoys singing in class and will try to do the hand motions for the songs. He is focused when he colors pictures and tries to stay in the lines. Moses is very protective of housemate Joy and enjoys playing with the other kids in his house. In spite of being deaf and mute he is able to communicate with ease basic things that he needs and is persistent in showing you just what that is.
