Faith Ann

Faith RKGirl, born 2012
PRC
Down syndrome, Congenital heart disease, Esotropia

Listed May 4, 2016

Faith was born in March 2012 and was found abandoned shortly after. She has been diagnosed with Esotropia (misalignment) of both eyes, Down syndrome and Congenital Heart Disease (PDA). Doctors in her area have said that her heart issue may self-heal and surgery wasn’t recommended.

Faith’s adoption file was completed in November 2015 when she was 3.5 years old. At that time she was participating in a program and was close to her teacher. She was said to be a popular child who was curious, lovely and friendly. Staff say she often holds hands with friends and foster siblings on the way to and from school. If she sees a child with a runny nose she will get a tissue and help them wipe it. Caretakers say she’s, “so cute and sensible.”

Faith is described as an active and energetic child who enjoys playing with peers and listens well to her caretakers. She can wash her hands independently, undress herself and go up and down stairs. She is fond of listening to music and has a ready smile.

A US Cardiologist has said that her medical situation would likely be quite manageable but whether or not she would need an operation to fix the PDA would depend on her symptoms and a repeat echocardiogram.

$15,088.20 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption!

Your gift will serve ALL of the children, as 10% of each Waiting Child Donation is shared with our Voice of Hope fund, as well!

Gus #

Gus (2) Gus (1)Boy, born 2005
Down syndrome

Listed: May 3, 2016

Gus is an amazing little boy who just needs a chance! He walks, plays appropriately with some toys, loves to bathe. He loves to be tickled and has the best giggle. He seems to be able to form appropriate bonds, as he was particularly attached to a couple of workers at his orphanage, and sought them out when he felt anxious. He loves to be held and cuddled and he loves to be sung to. Gus would do best in a family with older children. He did display some aggression towards smaller children when they invaded his space. He is a precious, loving boy and will absolutely flourish in a family.

Austyn

Austyn (1)

Austyn (2)Boy, born August 2007
PRC
Albinism, Significant Motion and Intelligence Delays

Listed: April 25, 2016

Austyn is a miracle-in-the-making. He is significantly developmentally delayed in all areas. As he was previously in an institutionalized setting, he has made tremendous strides since arriving at the New Day Foster Home. Many have been praying for this special young boy and cheering for him. Recently, his adoption file has been completed in country, and he can now be officially matched with his forever family.

Austyn is introverted, has a ready smile, likes music, likes snuggling and is full of energy. A special education teacher at New Day provided an extensive report describing his delays, which is available for prospective adoptive families. These delays include limited mobility, non-verbal communication and in the past he had experienced trouble chewing and swallowing food, but is now able. He is progressing in mobility and is able to walk unassisted for short periods of time although prefers to have something to hold on to. Austyn also has low vision, which is associated with the condition of albinism, but he does see and recognize things. Austyn is attached to his main caregivers and benefits from predictability and routine. He is hypersensitive to most sensory experiences and exhibits many self-stimulation behaviors when he is over stimulated (relaxing and gentle music can help him calm). Austyn is attending preschool each afternoon for an hour and 15 minutes. For most activities Austyn has a helper that works one-on-one with him.

According to the special education teacher, “With the consistency of a loving family and a team of educators and therapists, Austyn will continue to make progress in all areas of his development.”

For more information on Austyn, see blog entries here: http://newdayfosterhome.blogspot.com/search/label/Austyn

Simeon and Charlotte

Guardian AngelCharlottesimeon-2017Simeon, Born October 2007
Significantly delayed; Cerebral palsy
Charlotte, born 2002
significantly delayed

Listed February 22, 2011

New pic Jan 2017.

Simeon is a beautiful Roma child with dark hair and big brown eyes.  He is significantly delayed, and diagnosed with cerebral palsy.  We are trying to get more information on his social history.  Simeon is a fraternal twin, whose sister has already been adopted.

Simeon is described as mostly non-verbal, and is not able to walk on his own.  There just seems to be so much potential for him in a family environment.  He is already an outcast because of his darker skin and will be left institutionalized – and likely bedridden — if not adopted.

From a family who visited with him in 2011:  Simeon is barely responsive to stimuli, but I believe that could change if he received regular, loving attention.  I didn’t observe any of the orphanage workers spending much time interacting with him.  There were times that I was able to get him to smile and grip my hand.  After a few days, he was even able to clap!  But most of the time he is staring off in any direction and seems completely unable to control most of his movements.  He was always either lying down or propped up in a sitting position.  I never heard him speak.  I also never heard him cry or fuss. Overall, a very calm child.

Married couples only, larger families and older parents welcome.

Daryl

DarylBoy, born 2007
PRC
ectopia and limited motions of right lower limb

Listed: March 6, 2016

Daryl came into care as a newborn with a broken leg.

Update: Lively, cheerful, loves playing with other kids and expresses his needs clearly. Born 2/2007, this boy likes to play ball and with toy cars. He attends school, can speak in full sentences, identifies colors, numbers and can dress and undress himself. He is with a foster family and gets along well with others.

Dec 2013 report indicates that his cognitive and speech development are the same as his peers. He has limitations with his right leg and has an abnormal hip joint. We have video of him walking down stairs, walking to the playground, swinging, and playing on a toy car. His report indicates there are no other medical concerns. In the dancing show held by the institute on June 1st which was Children’s day, Daryl’s dance together with his rich facial expressions, harmonious hand movements and excellent shows, won warm applause of audiences time and again. Everybody couldn’t help being filled with deep esteem to this five-year-old little kid who is disabled in body but firm in spirit. He is a little “Man” full of responsibility and justice. When bringing younger brothers and sisters playing outside every time, he will undertake the duty of their “protector”, and never allow others bully his younger brothers and sisters. If other children have conflict in the kindergarten, Daryl will always stand out and take charge of justice, and resolve disputes for them. Both his teammates and his teachers praise him for his good behavior. He understands his foster parents’ hard working and always feels grateful to his parents. When his mother is sick, he will always take care of her and get her water. Every day when his father goes back home after work, he always takes slippers for him, gets him water, and pats on his back. He always says that he should study hard, and should be filial to his parents after grown up. Daryl not only studies well, but also very talented. He likes singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. When dancing, because of the limitation of his physical condition, he can’t jump as other little kids, but he never admits defeat, and waves his hands with music, striving to make the best movement.

Bailee

guardianangelBailey CollageGirl, born November 2005
PRC
arthrogryposis

Listed: Feb 21, 2016

Sweet 10-year-old Bailee is diagnosed as having arthrogryposis, which affects her knees, ankles and elbows. She is a very capable and independent girl despite her limb differences. In November 2015, she received surgery to improve her mobility and she is currently going through rehabilitation for walking. Bailee participates in the big sister program in her institute. Her teachers say she is polite, gets along well with other children, and loves studying. Although she was able to walk with support a little prior to her recent surgery, she had mostly been using a wheelchair to get around. Her teachers report that she is very smart, independent, and capable. Bailee learned to write her name after being shown only once and seldom asks for help. She is strong and very self-reliant both inside and outside of class and laughs happily when she is praised by her teachers. She is well liked and supported by her friends and classmates. Although the orphanage staff say her fingers aren’t affected by arthrogryposis, they do report some weakness in them. She is able to hold a pencil to write many words, do addition and subtraction, and feed herself.

Bailee enjoys singing, crafts, and drawing. Her teacher said that while all of the other children color a page working from the top to the bottom, Bailee starts at the bottom and colors up. When asked why, she replied: “I just want to be different from others.” Bailee is happy in the institute but also has a good attitude about adoption. Her orphanage prepares children very well for families and takes great care of their kids too! Bailee is willing to be adopted by foreigners so she’ll have more friends and people to love her. She told our staff that she would like to have siblings. She also shared that her favorite toys are Barbie dolls and that she likes the color blue. She said she hopes to go to college to become a teacher. What an inspiration this girl will be to the family who says “YES” to her!

Warner and Walden

Warden-WaldenBoy, born 2012
PRC
Twin brothers
Premature; one brother has autism
Listed: February 11, 2016

Warner and Walden are two handsome twin boys who are currently living in different foster families. They see each other periodically but do not have a close relationship. Their reports indicate that they were both born prematurely due to their low weights at the time they were found. Over time, they both increased their food intake and grew in strength.

When Warner was nearly 2 years of age, he could walk steadily, follow simple instructions, and speak 3-5 simple words. He could be stubborn at times like many toddlers, like throwing food he didn’t like in the trash when his foster mom wasn’t looking. He’s an active, outgoing kid who likes interacting with others and playing with toys with other children. According to an update October 2015, he’s made great progress with his communication and language skills; he can answer questions about his name and age, count to 20, express his wants and needs, knows children’s names, and can even recite poems. He has become more independent and can dress himself, feed himself, and use the bathroom. He feels closest to his foster mom and has a few close friends he likes playing with the most. Even though he can be stubborn at times and has an occasional quarrel with his younger foster sister, he still shows his empathy and kindness by helping with chores around the house and even offering his foster parents a back rub when he knows they’re tired!

Walden loves playing with toys, especially ones that make sounds! When he gets a new toy, he likes to shake it first; he’s particularly enthralled by car toys that make engine-like sounds. As an infant, he had some motor development delays; he could crawl and eventually learned to walk, though a bit unsteadily, just before he turned 2 years old. He did not cry often as an infant, and could babble sounds like “ma” and “ah wei”. He would get excited during mealtimes and adorably babble “muma” and scoot closer to anyone holding food. He responds better to familiar people and feels closest to his foster parents, sometimes even putting his arms around them for comfort. When he’s upset, he balls up his fists and his body shakes; his parents help him calm down by holding him and taking him outside. He can recognize his name and although his language skills are limited, he can understand simple instructions. He will sometime engage in repetitive self-soothing behaviors when he feels alone and would benefit from redirection to help him find other ways to comfort himself. An evaluation completed in 2014 suggests a possibility of mild to moderate autism due to his low engagement and minimal communication with others. An update from 2015 tells us he has improved his ability to make eye contact, and can still point to express his wants and needs (for example, when he wants to eat or watch his favorite cartoons). Walden would benefit from a loving, supportive environment and specialized education tailored to his needs.

The current agency has a $4000 grant available to assist families that qualify with the cost of this adoption.

$5,054.00 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption!

Your gift will serve ALL of the children, as 10% of each Waiting Child Donation is shared with our Voice of Hope fund, as well!

Hearing Impaired

Listed: January 26, 2016

Kipper is a handsome and outgoing boy who is 9 years old. (Note: his photos from his file have spots on them…these are not skin blemishes) He came to the orphanage when he was about 3 months old. They discovered he had hearing loss, with no other developmental issues. Kipper began “language recovery training” when he was 4 years old. At that time, his left ear was at 90dB, with his right ear having more hearing ability at 75dB. Kip had no language at 4 years old. He attended the language center during the week, then returned to the orphanage each weekend. He received hearing aids in 2010, and was soon able to repeat words and phrases. He is now able to speak in full sentences. Sometimes Kipper’s speech can be hard to understand, but for the most part, he can communicate with others with no problem. Kipper is a very smart boy, who quickly learns new skills. He has a fantastic memory, and can quickly recall passwords he has only seen one time. Kipper is a very compassionate boy, who looks out for the other kids. One friend at the orphanage is blind. He and Kipper are good friends, and he is able to understand what Kipper says every time. He refers to Kipper as his eyes, since Kipper helps him so much. Kipper is a sweet, active, energetic, and loving boy who wants to have a family of his own. He is inquisitive, polite, and eager to learn. He will be such a great addition to a loving family!

Yvonne

updated yvonne2YvonneYvonne-ChinaGirl, born July 2005
PRC
Down syndrome

Listed: May 1, 2013

Yvonne is a polite and friendly girl. “She likes to be tidy and beautiful,” said a visiting social worker. “So many times I saw her combing her hair.”

For the past year, Yvonne has lived in a group home in Hebei, China, where she gets to experience family life in the care of a foster mother and father. Although Yvonne has Down syndrome, she is described as “high functioning” for her condition. In the group home, she has taken on a big sister role and often helps her foster mom care for the younger children. Now 8 years old, she can read over 50 Chinese characters and count and write from 1 to 10.

Yvonne loves to perform and has natural grace. She was chosen to be the dance leader at her orphanage preschool. When she completes a project, she loves sharing it with her foster mom, and basking in her praise. Although she can be stubborn at times, Yvonne mostly listens and follows directions well.

Update Oct 2014:
Yvonne is outgoing and sensible. In her foster family, she is like an elder sister who takes care of her younger siblings. Whenever there are conflics between her siblings, she will do mediation for them. She acts like a little judge who is amiable but dignified. Therefore, her siblings all have faith in her. Yvonne loved on all the kids at the SWI too. She tucked them all in and told the visitors all about them.

Yvonne is also a good assistant of her parents in the foster family. When her foster parents are cooking, she always helps them with trimming vegetables, washing dishes or sweeping the floor. She does all these things as good as an adult. When her foster parents need to go out, she can take good care of her siblings so that let her parents don’t need to worry about them. She does so many things that her parents always praise her and love her so much.

When Fabio gets stuck on something, he will throw his two hands in the air in despair and ask his teacher “How do I do?” When his teacher responds with the answer, Fabio claps his hands happily and imitates the teacher’s answer! Fabio has perseverance, and if the teacher does not understand his question, he will figure out another way to ask in order to get his point across. Fabio was abandoned at the age of 6.

Mathis

mathis-2016mathis1Boy, born 2013
Multiple congenital arthrogryposis, internal hydrocephalus, open oval window

updated pics Jan 2015 and medical info:
Multiple congenital arthrogryposis, thymic hypoplasia, hypoplasia of abdominal wall muscles, crossed eyes, additional chord in the heart.

He had surgery. He is developing well. Smart boy. Needs out asap.

From a family that met him 11/15:
“Mathis” (he will be 3 years old in winter) also has delayed speech and mental delay. He did not use any words while we were there. He cannot sit, crawl, stand, or walk. We did not see him move about the floor, he needed to be held. This is frustrating for him. We did not observe him using his hands. I tried to place toys in his hands a he did not grab them. He did not laugh or smile.

$1,494.63 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption!

Your gift will serve ALL of the children, as 10% of each Waiting Child Donation is shared with our Voice of Hope fund, as well!

Kevin

KevinBoy, born March 2007
PRC
possible muscular dystrophy

Kevin’s story is so heartbreaking. He was brought to the orphanage when he was 4 years old; scared, lonely, and confused. They decided to give him an IQ/DQ test just a few months after he arrived; he did not score very high (not surprising at all, given the trauma of the past few months!). He appeared to be in good health overall. Kevin came to the U.S. as part of an agency’s host program. At that time, he was active, healthy-looking, and doing well. When he returned to his orphanage, his physical health began to decline. Currently, Kevin is unable to walk any distance at all without falling. He requires help to get up off the floor, or from the toilet. He can only eat soft foods that are easy to chew. There is a strong possibility that Kevin has muscular dystrophy. Throughout it all, Kevin has remained a positive outlook, a loving nature, and a great compassion for others. Kevin is now 8 years old. He is currently in a foster home at the orphanage, and takes care of the younger children there. Kevin needs a family of his own, in an area that can provide him the care and treatments he will need.

Mikel (L)

Mikel B147-001

Mikel B147-002Boy, born September 2002
Down syndrome, specific mixed developmental disorder and aphasia (Language disorder)

Listed: October 30, 2015

Mikel is not speaking, but follows directions. In 2004, he had surgery for cataracts, and glasses assigned for permanent wearing. The report indicates that the boy is not getting involved in any activities and performs the stereotypic movements. Mikel was never visited by his parents and has no contact with relatives.

Mikel goes to the special school in town. Mikel is not receiving any neurological medication. His sleep during the night is good (calm), but he needs to wear diapers. Mikel needs an ongoing supervision by an adult. His eye contact is short, is concentrating his attention to the sounds and visual signals. Has good understanding of the adult’s speech, implements instructions, but he is not speaking by himself. He is able to eat without help, to dress up and undress, to wash his hands, brush his teeth, but still his hygienic skill are not yet developed in full: he takes the action only when is reminded and is helped by the staff member. His eating is good and likes different food. His interest in the environment is weak, he feels secure in the environment he is familiar with with persons he knows. He likes to be together with other children in a family group setting, listen to music, but due to his slow motion he is not getting involved into the group activities. His favorite activity is to play with balloons and ball; he throws them up in the air.

Susan

SusanGirl, born March 2006
PRC
Down syndrome

Listed: October 29, 2015

Susan is active and outgoing. She needs some time to be familiar with strangers and will interact with you if you are familiar. She gets along with others very well. She can communicate with others basically. She would help others to get utensils out. She can walk; go up and down stairs alone. She could stack blocks. She is very helpful to other kids. She will carry chairs, clean rooms and pick up garbage on the floor.

Additional photos available from the agency.

From her host family, February 2016:
Suzy has adjusted well to being in our home.  She initially had some anxiety during travel in our vehicle. This seems to have subsided after the first couple of day trips. We believe it may be related to not being certain where we were going and if she would be returning to our home. At this point, after six days with our family, she seems comfortable with our outings, and seems to understand that we will end up back at our house by the end of the day. This comfort seems to help her. She does get sleepy while riding in the car, if traveling over 45 minutes at a time. She naps, and then readily wakes up when we stop, with no problems.

Suzy is staying in the bedroom with two of our girls, ages 11 and 8. She remembers our 8-year old, who was a close friend in China! She has bonded well to both girls, looking to the older one as a constant guide/helper/playmate, and enjoys playing with the younger one, too. The girls are often holding hands when we’re walking about during our outings. Suzy is very sweet to our youngest daughter, age 6, who is wheelchair-bound and cannot speak. She also gets along well with our two boys, ages 15 and 13. Suzy is an obedient child, and listens to what we ask her to do. She also does a good job with our hand gestures, use of English, and demonstrations with the other kids to let her know what we are asking of her. She is a good-natured child, and has a very pleasant personality. She often giggles and laughs, and is now saying “hello” to people we pass by in the stores. She also says “bye” to people readily. She is seeming to understand us better each day, picking up on what we are saying (in English) and motioning.

Suzy is eating well. She usually eats a small breakfast, medium size lunch, has snacks during the day, and a larger dinner. This is by her own choosing, as we let her eat what she needs. She enjoys the Chinese food that we’ve made or purchased. We have also had Chick-fil-A and made taco salad, which she liked. She favors rice, meat, and some vegetables. We had ice cream this afternoon, which she thoroughly enjoyed!

We have gone to the park on a couple of occasions, to the pet store, and gone shopping. We also went to church and to an evening kids program. We have invited people over to our house to visit as well. She really does well in stores, and does not reach out to touch a lot of things. She stays with us in the stores very well. She liked riding in the cart for a little while.

cognitive and speech delays

Listed: October 28, 2015

Nanci is a sweet and active girl who is 9 years old. She came to the orphanage as an infant, and has been found to have cognitive delays, as well as some speech delays. She uses short sentences to express her needs. Her movements seem to be a bit slow, overall. Nanci enjoys playing with her friends. She can be easily distracted, and is typically a quiet girl. Nanci would benefit from a good special education class, and a full developmental evaluation. But, most of all, Nanci needs a family!

McKinley

McKinley CollageGirl, born June 2004

Growth and developmental delays, mental delays

Listed: October 27, 2015

Agency staff had the pleasure of recently meeting beautiful 11 year old McKinley! McKinley is living in a mock family in the foster village, which is on the orphanage grounds. She attends school in the special education class at the orphanage, where she is in 2nd grade. Her favorite subjects are art and Chinese. McKinley’s best friend has already been adopted to the US and she would very much like to be adopted too and she said she’d love a big family! When asked what kind of family she would like, she pointed to one of our staff members. She is a very sweet and considerate little girl. The guide that was with our staff said she has known her for years and that she is a wonderful girl!

McKinley’s favorite foods are fish, noodles, and grapes. Her favorite toys are dolls and puzzles. McKinley’s favorite animals are dogs and kangaroos. Her favorite color is white. McKinley said she wants to be a mama when she grows up…so sweet! McKinley’s mental abilities are slightly below her peers. She is not receiving any therapy at this time. Her hearing is normal, but she does squint a lot. It is a possibility that she needs glasses. She can read simple books and plays well with others. The orphanage staff described McKinley as shy, kind, helpful, friendly, and obedient.

Joseph

guardianangelJosephBoy, born October 2005

mild CP – poss. seizures

Listed: October 27, 2015

Joseph is a handsome and active boy who has just turned 10 years old. He came to the orphanage as an infant, having been found by a caring citizen who was out for his morning exercise. There was a birth note in the box, so his birth date is accurate. Joseph had weakness in his right arm and leg, and was diagnosed with mild CP. He had surgery on his right arm in 2007. His range of motion with his right arm is limited. The doctors discovered he had mild hydrocephalus; however, subsequent CT scans have shown it is self correcting. There has been no need for medical intervention. Joseph had a seizure in 2012, and has been on medication since that time. We are unclear as to the type of seizure, and hope to receive an update soon. Joseph lives with a foster family, and they report he is a friendly boy, who enjoys playing with the kids in the neighborhood. Joseph attending a boarding school, and returns each weekend to his foster family. He likes school, and his many friends there. Joseph needs a family of his own. Video is available!

Ryland

Ryland (2)RylandBoy, born October 2006
PRC
Congenital Heart Defect

Handsome Ryland is diagnosed as having Congenital Heart Defect (CHD): transposition of the single atrium, single ventricle and great arteries with moderate stenosis of pulmonary artery. The CCCWA asked the agency Ryland is listed with to advocate for him because they want him to find a family and know that he needs to get out quickly. If that doesn’t tell you this kid is special, read on.

Ryland’s file is outdated so the agency he is listed with has requested an update for him. From his 2013 file: At the age of 4 years until now, he studies in the preschool class. He can recite many children’s songs, can recognize common words, can count 1-100, and can do addition and subtraction within 10. He is toilet trained and can dress and undress independently and button clothing. At that time he was not able to tie his shoelaces. He is polite and can greet people. Ryland likes watching cartoons and imitating. His language ability is normal- he can tell about things, can tell what he see, and can ask questions. He is helpful and kind to others, helping his orphanage brothers and sisters up if he sees them fall down. He does well in school and gets his homework done. He likes studying and is clever. Ryland is described as having normal mental and physical development besides his serious heart condition.

This part of his file was too sweet not to include: Ryland has been living in the welfare institute since he was young. He regards the welfare institute as his home. There is the common mom in the institute, as well as caretakers and children who are like brothers and sisters to him. The institute is like a big family- everyone lives together and studies happily. He does feel lonely here. If one day he is adopted, he will miss the kids and caretakers here. He will visit them if he has chance. Returning home is his dream. He is looking forward to his own dad and mom. If he can be adopted by foreigners, he will be very happy. He would like to be adopted. Ryland sounds like an amazing child! We are looking forward to what his update has to say about him and hope to find him a family who can expedite his adoption and get him home soon!

There is a $3,000 agency grant for Ryland’s adoption with the current agency he is listed with. Other grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances. Agency grants are awarded as agency fee reductions.
