Francis

Boy, born Oct 2004

This young man has a deep mental delay, and cerebral palsy.

Listed: November 11, 2011

From a family who met him in 2011:

Sweet Francis needs a family.  He does not currently sit up, but I think he probably could if he were given an opportunity to be out of his chair and get stronger.  Overall, Francis seems to be physically healthy, aside from his CP.  I suspect his cerebral palsy affects his upper and lower body.  He is very tight.  More concerning is his emotional well being.  Francis does not get much mental stimulation or interaction, outside of his immediate basic needs.  The caregivers are kind and do love him, but are unsure what to do with him.  He gets good basic care.  He is fed and is clean.  He is not left in a crib.  He sits in his orange chair all day long.  I tried to talk to Francis and touch him.  He is very uncomfortable with touch, but he has the sweetest blue eyes and I know that the right family could draw this little boy out of his shell.  Please someone, take a chance on Francis.  He will thrive with the proper care and stimulation.

Irina

irina2015-3irina-2016Girl, Born March 5, 2005

Listed: prior to 2010

Cleft palate, possible FAS

From a volunteer who visited with her in August 2016:  Irina’s update from last year is still very accurate. Her introvert and shy behaviors got more though. She prefers not to interact at all. It took me half of our trip to get her to trust me enough to walk around the building with us and she would still not look at me. She avoids any eye contact. She did enjoy the attention though. She still loves to sit on someones lap. She has grown even more than last year. This year she had become too heavy for me to carry her.

I think Irina wants to get out of the facility. She was transferred to this facility a couple years ago. Before she lived here, she lived in a ‘normal orphanage’ with a special needs group. When they lost their funding she was transferred here. When we take her for a walk she walks to the gate and she just stares at the world outside of those gates. She realizes there is an entire world out there. One day the nurses saw us at the gate though and they yelled at us for minutes. We were not allowed to take Irina there, she could walk away. The gate is closed and locked and we were there with her, so there was no way she’d walk away, but from that day on Irina was even more closed and she lost most of the initiative while walking. She even lost her interest in the swing. She needs someone she can trust, someone who she’ll know will stay and will love her. She has already been listed for so long! She needs a family!

From a volunteer who visited with her in July 2015:  ” Irina is a beautiful girl with dark hair and big dark eyes. She has a cleft palate. She is a precious and happy little girl. She loves personal attention. She is craving attention and physical touch. If it was up to her she’d be held and hugged all day. She can react really shy to people who talk to her and especially when yelled at, she will become really introvert. She is a really sweet girl. Irina is a physically quite healthy girl. She is well nourished, she can walk, run, swing, etc. Her physical development is good, compared with the other children in the same facility. She seems to have a strong body. She knows how to use a swing properly and can swing by herself. She enjoys it a lot. She can play accurate with toys, like dolls, or pretend play with kitchen tools. She knows how to walk stairs. She can dress and undress herself. She can drink from a cup and eat by herself. She is potty trained and will tell if she has to use the bathroom. She doesn’t talk, most likely because of her cleft palate. She doesn’t make noises, but her eyes express a lot about how she feels. And her smile will tell you when she enjoys something. She understands what is being said to her and she can follow orders. When Irina is in the group, she’ll try to stay away from the others. She prefers to play by herself, but she is also capable of interacting with other children or adults. She prefers to play with children who are smaller or younger than her, probably because they are no threat to her. Last year I saw how she was being bullied by other (bigger) children. She tries to flee from bullies (and from yelling), but there is nowhere to go. This year she is doing much better. She has grown physically, which made her less of a target for the bigger children. Maybe also because new smaller children are in the group now. Sometimes she’s still the target of bullying and harming behaviour, but at other moments she will show these behaviours herself. She can be a bully to the smaller children herself. I think this is her way of showing that she is stronger now, but this is no good development. The longer children are in this facility, the more harming behaviour they show. Irina is still able to receive love, but time is ticking away. She needs a family. She would thrive in a family where she could be ‘the baby’.”

If you are unfamiliar with FAS, please spend some time researching this condition. Just as with Down syndrome, FAS and FAE have a wide variation of effects on each child, both medically, physically, and cognitively. This is typically dependent on how long during the pregnancy the mother consumed alcohol, and of course, how much. There is no way to know this ahead of time.

Irina has been transferred to the older child internat now.   Elinor, Devora, Julia,  Sullivan, Artemur, Duane, Abner and Irina may all be in the same region.

Valery was born with CP and spina bifida.  She has significant strabismus and “progressive hydrocephaly”.  She is not able to walk, and is significantly delayed in all aspects.   But she is still beautiful and deserving and can truly thrive in a loving family, with access to adequate medical care and nutrition.   Valery will remain bedridden for life, and will likely not survive the transfer to the institution.   Won’t someone consider being her “forever family”?

Listed: August 4, 2010

NEW PHOTO JUNE 2016

Jason spends his time either in a crib or in a stroller, sitting outside.

He needs a lot of love and attention … He is a good, sweet child, but he has a lot of self-injuring behaviors.  Unfortunately, he is often restrained because he hits himself really hard.

From a  family who visited with him in June 2013:   I saw Jason this morning. I got to take him for a walk in the stroller, play with him, feed him (twice!), and get him ready for his nap. He is wonderful. He loved it when I made my hand crawl up his belly and tickle him under the chin. I was rewarded with loud laughing and a huge smile. He liked to have me rub his feet, and whenever I would stop he would stick his little foot up for more. He makes noises but he does not talk. He can walk if he holds both of your hands, but he prefers to crawl as he can go faster. He is the king of the bouncy seat. He sits in it whenever he can, and he shooed away another child who came too close. 😉 He is about the size of a four year old and is in a 4/5 shirt. He’s heavier than I thought he would be, but I can carry him easily. I’m totally in love.

10 day wait often waived here.  Married couples only, larger families welcome.

Victor

Boy, born 2007
PRC
Cognitive Delays, Speech Delay, Albinism

Victor was briefly in a program at a home for children who are blind.  He came to the home “pretty broken” and has been sent back to his orphanage. He hadn’t been at the home too long, but progressed, blossomed, and was loved there.

A special family is needed to adopt him quickly so he will not lose that feeling of love and all of his progress. Praying for his family to see him today. He likes to dance, and he likes to find leaves and sticks.

February 2017 update (from the home):
“Victor is still waiting for a family. He has grown very close to his teacher. In the morning the caregivers drop the kids off at school and they walk on their own and wait for their teachers in the classroom. Victor insists every day on waiting for his teacher at the door. He smiles and holds her hand when she comes and they walk upstairs together. He follows her everywhere and she is able to cheer him up if he is having a hard time. It’s been amazing to see their relationship grow but he needs a permanent family to continue encouraging him to grow”

Lily

Girl, age 12
Cerebral pasly, HIV

Known as Lily by her committed orphanage volunteers, she recently had a big celebration for her 12th birthday. Lily is described as a caretaker with a bright, warm and joy filled personality. She loves to wear new dresses and new shoes, play with baby dolls, read books, color, laugh, give hugs and dance. She works with a gait trainer to walk for her cerebral palsy, but it’s noted that she has a preference to run. With the trainer, she is able to kick a soccer ball and use a scooter standing up. She is able to speak, uses a communication program so she is able to share her thoughts and needs with others and has started to spell and read short phonetic words. Her volunteer notes that Lily has an understanding of what it means to have a forever family and has a strong desire to have this herself.

Why hasn’t anyone chosen her? Don’t they know how amazing she is? Can’t they see how much joy she would bring to their family? Can’t they see that she is so much more than her cerebral palsy? That she is smart, she loves to laugh, she is gentle, and loves going to church. Her cerebral palsy doesn’t define her. – Lily’s foster mother

Lily is diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and HIV. She’s reported to be an eager learner and receives physical, speech and occupational therapies.

Eligible families may qualify for a grant through her current agency in addition to a $5,000 Child Specific Grant (exp 7/31/17).

Sensitive special need

Listed: June 2017

Luke has a sensitive special need – XY46. He’s in a very poor orphanage, where adoptive families have met him.   Luke is in a very under resourced orphanage in rural China where he is not able to attend school, lacks proper nutrition, and the opportunity to play with even basic toys.

Luke is a charming boy who has a close relationship with his caregivers and is known around the orphanage for his helpfulness. He is attentive when the little ones cry, and runs errands for his caregivers when they need an extra hand. Luke likes to play games with others, especially ball games. Luke is active and extroverted. His favorite meal is egg and pork!

Luke’s development is fully age-appropriate. He will need a family who understands the complexities of his medical need and can offer him the unconditional love and support he needs to flourish. We believe Luke will thrive in the loving care of a family like yours. We’ve met him and loved hanging out with this smart little guy! Is he the child you’ve been waiting for?

Austyn

Austyn (1)

Austyn (2)Boy, born August 2007
PRC
Albinism, Significant Motion and Intelligence Delays

Listed: April 25, 2016

Austyn is a miracle-in-the-making. He is significantly developmentally delayed in all areas. As he was previously in an institutionalized setting, he has made tremendous strides since arriving at the New Day Foster Home. Many have been praying for this special young boy and cheering for him. Recently, his adoption file has been completed in country, and he can now be officially matched with his forever family.

Austyn is introverted, has a ready smile, likes music, likes snuggling and is full of energy. A special education teacher at New Day provided an extensive report describing his delays, which is available for prospective adoptive families. These delays include limited mobility, non-verbal communication and in the past he had experienced trouble chewing and swallowing food, but is now able. He is progressing in mobility and is able to walk unassisted for short periods of time although prefers to have something to hold on to. Austyn also has low vision, which is associated with the condition of albinism, but he does see and recognize things. Austyn is attached to his main caregivers and benefits from predictability and routine. He is hypersensitive to most sensory experiences and exhibits many self-stimulation behaviors when he is over stimulated (relaxing and gentle music can help him calm). Austyn is attending preschool each afternoon for an hour and 15 minutes. For most activities Austyn has a helper that works one-on-one with him.

According to the special education teacher, “With the consistency of a loving family and a team of educators and therapists, Austyn will continue to make progress in all areas of his development.”

For more information on Austyn, see blog entries here: http://newdayfosterhome.blogspot.com/search/label/Austyn

Daryl

DarylBoy, born 2007
PRC
ectopia and limited motions of right lower limb

Listed: March 6, 2016

Daryl came into care as a newborn with a broken leg.

Update: Lively, cheerful, loves playing with other kids and expresses his needs clearly. Born 2/2007, this boy likes to play ball and with toy cars. He attends school, can speak in full sentences, identifies colors, numbers and can dress and undress himself. He is with a foster family and gets along well with others.

Dec 2013 report indicates that his cognitive and speech development are the same as his peers. He has limitations with his right leg and has an abnormal hip joint. We have video of him walking down stairs, walking to the playground, swinging, and playing on a toy car. His report indicates there are no other medical concerns. In the dancing show held by the institute on June 1st which was Children’s day, Daryl’s dance together with his rich facial expressions, harmonious hand movements and excellent shows, won warm applause of audiences time and again. Everybody couldn’t help being filled with deep esteem to this five-year-old little kid who is disabled in body but firm in spirit. He is a little “Man” full of responsibility and justice. When bringing younger brothers and sisters playing outside every time, he will undertake the duty of their “protector”, and never allow others bully his younger brothers and sisters. If other children have conflict in the kindergarten, Daryl will always stand out and take charge of justice, and resolve disputes for them. Both his teammates and his teachers praise him for his good behavior. He understands his foster parents’ hard working and always feels grateful to his parents. When his mother is sick, he will always take care of her and get her water. Every day when his father goes back home after work, he always takes slippers for him, gets him water, and pats on his back. He always says that he should study hard, and should be filial to his parents after grown up. Daryl not only studies well, but also very talented. He likes singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. When dancing, because of the limitation of his physical condition, he can’t jump as other little kids, but he never admits defeat, and waves his hands with music, striving to make the best movement.

Kevin

KevinBoy, born March 2007
PRC
possible muscular dystrophy

Kevin’s story is so heartbreaking. He was brought to the orphanage when he was 4 years old; scared, lonely, and confused. They decided to give him an IQ/DQ test just a few months after he arrived; he did not score very high (not surprising at all, given the trauma of the past few months!). He appeared to be in good health overall. Kevin came to the U.S. as part of an agency’s host program. At that time, he was active, healthy-looking, and doing well. When he returned to his orphanage, his physical health began to decline. Currently, Kevin is unable to walk any distance at all without falling. He requires help to get up off the floor, or from the toilet. He can only eat soft foods that are easy to chew. There is a strong possibility that Kevin has muscular dystrophy. Throughout it all, Kevin has remained a positive outlook, a loving nature, and a great compassion for others. Kevin is now 8 years old. He is currently in a foster home at the orphanage, and takes care of the younger children there. Kevin needs a family of his own, in an area that can provide him the care and treatments he will need.

Growth and developmental delays, mental delays

Listed: October 27, 2015

Agency staff had the pleasure of recently meeting beautiful 11 year old McKinley! McKinley is living in a mock family in the foster village, which is on the orphanage grounds. She attends school in the special education class at the orphanage, where she is in 2nd grade. Her favorite subjects are art and Chinese. McKinley’s best friend has already been adopted to the US and she would very much like to be adopted too and she said she’d love a big family! When asked what kind of family she would like, she pointed to one of our staff members. She is a very sweet and considerate little girl. The guide that was with our staff said she has known her for years and that she is a wonderful girl!

McKinley’s favorite foods are fish, noodles, and grapes. Her favorite toys are dolls and puzzles. McKinley’s favorite animals are dogs and kangaroos. Her favorite color is white. McKinley said she wants to be a mama when she grows up…so sweet! McKinley’s mental abilities are slightly below her peers. She is not receiving any therapy at this time. Her hearing is normal, but she does squint a lot. It is a possibility that she needs glasses. She can read simple books and plays well with others. The orphanage staff described McKinley as shy, kind, helpful, friendly, and obedient.

Ryland

Ryland (2)RylandBoy, born October 2006
PRC
Congenital Heart Defect

Handsome Ryland is diagnosed as having Congenital Heart Defect (CHD): transposition of the single atrium, single ventricle and great arteries with moderate stenosis of pulmonary artery. The CCCWA asked the agency Ryland is listed with to advocate for him because they want him to find a family and know that he needs to get out quickly. If that doesn’t tell you this kid is special, read on.

Ryland’s file is outdated so the agency he is listed with has requested an update for him. From his 2013 file: At the age of 4 years until now, he studies in the preschool class. He can recite many children’s songs, can recognize common words, can count 1-100, and can do addition and subtraction within 10. He is toilet trained and can dress and undress independently and button clothing. At that time he was not able to tie his shoelaces. He is polite and can greet people. Ryland likes watching cartoons and imitating. His language ability is normal- he can tell about things, can tell what he see, and can ask questions. He is helpful and kind to others, helping his orphanage brothers and sisters up if he sees them fall down. He does well in school and gets his homework done. He likes studying and is clever. Ryland is described as having normal mental and physical development besides his serious heart condition.

This part of his file was too sweet not to include: Ryland has been living in the welfare institute since he was young. He regards the welfare institute as his home. There is the common mom in the institute, as well as caretakers and children who are like brothers and sisters to him. The institute is like a big family- everyone lives together and studies happily. He does feel lonely here. If one day he is adopted, he will miss the kids and caretakers here. He will visit them if he has chance. Returning home is his dream. He is looking forward to his own dad and mom. If he can be adopted by foreigners, he will be very happy. He would like to be adopted. Ryland sounds like an amazing child! We are looking forward to what his update has to say about him and hope to find him a family who can expedite his adoption and get him home soon!

There is a $3,000 agency grant for Ryland’s adoption with the current agency he is listed with. Other grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances. Agency grants are awarded as agency fee reductions.

Kathleen

Kathleen2-croppedKathleen 2015Girl, born 2004
Unrepaired cleft palate, mental delays

Listed: October 1, 2015

Kathleen is described as broadminded and cheerful.

From someone who met Kathleen in 2010: Kathleen is a very loving and social little girl who loves getting attention from adults. Whenever I was in her group, she was always right beside me, participating in whatever I was doing and engaging me in her own favorite activities. Kathleen has kept that silly, playfulness that most institutionalized children seem to lose. She was definitely a little mischievous getting into everything, but was also very quick to follow direction and obviously eager to please. I truly believe she would thrive in a family where she was showered with all the attention she deserves and allowed to simply be the fun-loving, silly little girl God created her to be.

From someone who met Kathleen in 2012: Kathleen is a happy little girl who would love to be able to communicate, but cannot because of an unrepaired cleft palate. She makes noises to communicate to the best of her ability. She is a very sweet little girl, and loves to play outside. Many missionaries who have met her loved her and spoke highly of her!

Update September 2015: Kathleen was moved into an all girls facility in 2012. The staff say she has adapted well to the routine and has a group of friends. However there is no opportunity for education or therapy where she currently is. The staff say their goals are focused physical activity and teaching the girls self care rather than on education. The facility is in a very rural village and there is no school nearby.

Kathleen was evaluated by a doctor who said that she is moderately mentally disabled. There is a high likelihood that she has some form of a congenital syndrome that she was born with. She has an unrepaired cleft palate, mitral valve prolapse, as well as some abnormality of her elbow joints. She is also very thin, it’s unclear if this is related to her syndrome since the other girls at her facility were not under weight like she is. We observed her eating several times, the palate does not seem to slow her down, but she does have to clear her nose frequently because there is no barrier between her mouth and her nasal cavity. It was originally thought that her speech challenges were due to the unrepaired palate, but the doctor says this is not likely since she is not just delayed in speech, but rather is completely nonverbal. He believes that she will remain nonverbal, but then again there is no speech therapy offered where she is, so we doubt that!

Kathleen understands and is able to follow basic instructions, and is able to perform self care with supervision (self feeds, toilets, dresses independently, etc). We were able to get her to play briefly kicking around a ball, and she liked to watch us color. We were unable to get her to use the crayons herself to see what her fine motor skills are like. She likes to take pictures but refuses to look at the pictures on the phone! She seems really averse to iphones, ipad, etc, when we tried to show her pictures and videos. She would hold our hands and lead us around where she wanted to go, and enjoys skipping! The staff have a nickname for her that basically means “energizer,” because she is always active and on the go!

Kathleen is a beautiful girl who is not able to reach her God given potential where she currently is. The doctor was not hopeful that she would “ever progress,” but we know that with the love/dedication of a family, and medical care/therapy that she needs, that she can prove him wrong!

Lexi is a beautiful little girl with such a sweet spirit! She is 8 years old, and has hyperextension of her right knee and is incontinent (possible issue with lower spine). She is able to “walk” with some assistance. Lexi used to sit and watch the other kids run and play, and she was so sad she couldn’t join in the fun. She worked and worked to find a way to get around! Lexi has had some delays but has excellent fine motor skills. She can take care of herself very well and is a smart girl. She has a best friend at the orphanage. Lexi sings while her friend dances. I imagine Lexi would love to be able to dance, too. She will need possible surgery and therapy on her right leg, and help with the continence issues. Lexi is a very loving and patient little girl. She is ready and waiting for a family of her own.

Nystagmus and blurry distance vision

Everly is a beautiful 8 year old girl who came into care when she was 5 months old. An early exam showed she has nystagmus and later exams also show her near vision is good, but her distance vision is blurry. In short, Everly needs her vision corrected. Glasses could be wonderful! Her nystagmus currently does not appear to cause her any trouble with motor skills. Everly has been in good health, and attends school where she is a good student. She is learning a bit of English, and really enjoys those lessons. Everly is a quiet girl, but is not fearful of strangers. She speaks very fluently, and with very logical thinking. She can express herself very well. Everly is a delightful girl, who will be a wonderful daughter! She is ready for a family and maybe a good pair of glasses!

Byron

Byron (2)Byron (1)Boy, born October 2005
PRC
Cerebral Palsy

Listed: June 23, 2015

Byron is a bright child, whose cognitive abilities are the same as other children his age. He speaks in complete sentences with clear pronunciation, other than a slight regional accent. He has no problem communicating with adults, and can express his ideas and needs freely. In December, the orphanage sent him to a foster home for special training to help his cerebral palsy, and before too long they saw big improvements! His muscles were weak from lack of use, but he had a strong desire to learn to stand and walk. After six months of therapy he was basically independent in daily life. He gets along well with other children in the foster home and at school; when they occasionally have a disagreement they work it out quickly. He enjoys playing with toy cars and balls, and also likes drawing and doing handicrafts. Byron also loves field trips! This determined boy is waiting for a family who can help him continue his great progress!

Pearson

30520132428pearson-2017-croppedBoy, born Dec. 2004
Moderate mental delays, likely FAS

Listed: May 14, 2015

New pic January 2017.

From a family who met him in July 2015:  Pearson is a Lost Boy. He lives in a horrible institution.  Pearson is nonverbal. I only heard him laugh. I never heard other sounds; that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t make them, I just never heard them while I was there. Pearson picks up quickly on things, like making a ball light up, or scribbling on the magna-doodle. He has a wonderful smile, and LOVED making his blue spiky ball light up. It is not in his file, but judged on behavior and facial features, we are pretty sure that he has FAS. We were not able to adopt Pearson because we have small children in our home, and also another son with major needs. Pearson is a beautiful boy, but he lives in a place that chews the boys up and spits them out. He was taken into government care as a baby, and has been there since. He most likely entered this institution when he was 5 or 6. That is a very long time to be neglected. It is a very long time to suffer the boredom and trauma of this place. He is very easily overstimulated. Every few minutes he is overwhelmed and his behavior reflects that. He needs constant supervision, and a home without small children. While he is very sweet and likes to throw balls, he also has a tendency to run away, break things, pull hair, head butt, spit, etc. The more he is worked with, the better his tolerance to stimulation will be. Someone without small children, and someone experienced with institutional behaviors would be best for Pearson. He is a beautiful, broken boy, who needs a mama and daddy to help him calm down, to play ball with him, and to love him and put his pieces back together that the institution broke.”

From a family who met him in Fall 2013:  Pearson is doing so good!! He is precious and sweet! I saw him from a distance every day. The first time, he was with a group of boys having their picture taken in the fall leaves. He always did what the nanny told him to. He walks very well, and he likes holding the nannies hands. My favorite day was when I walked past their group and he was right in front of me on the sidewalk, and before the nanny could move him, I bent down and in Russian told him how sweet he was. He took my face in both of his hands, and pulled me down so our foreheads were touching, and just stared in my eyes. I kissed his cheek, and his whole face lit up!! And he has the most adorable splatter of freckles! He is smaller than I would have thought too.

Elliot, Casey and Lynn

Casey, girl, born 2008, healthy
Lynn, girl, born 2006, healthy

Listed: May 12, 2015

Casey, the younger girl was born in 2008 and has no SNs, just some kind of development delay. She is smart and active, participate in all orphanage performances. She has now been transferred as well.

Her older sister, Lynn, was transferred from her orphanage due to her age and in August she will be transferred again. She was born in 2006. By orphanage social worker her older sister is VERY smart and beautiful, no SNs, very active in all performances. She has now been transferred again

Both girls need a family asap!!!  These 2 siblings are to be adopted together for sure.

They have an older brother born in 2004. He is in the special school orphanage and has severe mental delays.

If a family decides to adopt all 3 children it will be great!!! If they want only two younger siblings they are to be approved for 3 children and to get referral to meet ALL 3 siblings. Then if they decide not to adopt the oldest one we will do the best to “separate” them. I think it is possible, but we cannot guarantee it for sure.  They have a younger brother as well, and he has already been adopted.

Motions of right tendon is bad, deformed tongue

Listed May 11, 2015

Willa is by all accounts an extroverted, happy, well-behaved, very obedient and caring, helpful and easy-going girl.  She  has been in the orphanage system and foster care since 2005 and has lived in the foster home inside the orphanage for the last 5 years.  She’s always gotten along well with foster families.  She likes to help her foster mom, do housework, take care of her little brothers and sisters, and help children with physical disabilities walk up and down stairs.  Though she is diagnosed with postoperative tongue malformation and mental development delay, others who’ve met her say she has normal mental and emotional development, but can’t speak clearly. Her motor skills are normal, and she has no physical limitations.  A recent report says she’s in kindergarten, but past reports have said she is in the orphanage special education class, is the best student there, understands what is taught, and is good at painting.  She is close to the teachers and gets along very well with all other kids and adults.  She can recite some poems and children’s songs, as well as simple English words.  She can write simple words and do simple addition and subtraction. We and others met Terri in her orphanage, and one visitor reports, “She is a very sweet and happy child who really lights up the room when she smiles. She will go very far with love and formal education.” She really wants to be adopted!  See her happy personality as she dances in her video.   Click here to see Terri’s video

Aaron

aaronaaron-2015Boy, born 2003
CP

Listed: August 4, 2010

Aaron was also previously listed as “Anderson”.

From a family who has met him many times:
This boy is absolutely exploding with energy. He’s really unsteady on his feet so he’s constantly roaming the halls half-running/half-falling. He loves to touch and craves physical contact. Sometimes we can get a glorious moment of quiet when he will just let us hold him and wrap our arms around him. He really does love that and it does wonders for his brain development. It’s just a matter of getting him still enough to realize he likes it!

He loves any kind of sensory play, like feeling the dirt outside and holding his hand under a running faucet. He likes to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, even though he doesn’t need a wheelchair! The best thing we can do for him is take him on walks. He likes to be outside so sometimes we just get him outside and follow wherever he leads. He doesn’t have any words, but when he gets excited he gives his signature shriek to let us know he’s excited. He needs a family who can provide him with a lot of structure. Right now he is constantly seeking sensory input, and getting into a lot of trouble doing that. We believe he would thrive within the structure and love of a family.

Leroy

LeroyBoy, born December 2005
PRC
Cerebral palsy

Listed: April 3, 2015

Leroy came into care as a baby, and by the time he was two and a half his caregivers were already describing him as extroverted, clever and with sparkling eyes full of mischief. An active little guy, he loved to dance happily in his chair to music. Even as a little tyke, he showed a calm and patient nature when adults were too busy to play with him, and he loved to interact with them when they had time. He’s grown into a handsome boy who lived for some time with a foster family including a mother, father, and another boy a year older who was also a foster child. When agency staff met him in 2010, despite having been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, he was walking independently for short distances, and he could run but would sometimes fall. At that time he wasn’t speaking very much. We’re looking forward to the update we’ve requested, to see how he’s doing now. Like all kids, Leroy needs the love and support of a forever family.

The application fee and pre-approval deposit has been waived for Leroy. In addition, there is a $4000 Child Grant that may be available to families through the agency.

His language development is fairly delayed and he cannot speak clearly. Marco can walk and he uses support to go up and downstairs. He can move his hands and feet slowly, but does not move too much. Now he can speak some simple poems, can sing some simple children’s songs, and knows some simple English words, but his intelligence development is delayed compared to his peers. Marco is cute and kind. He likes to play with other children and can get along well with other children. Marco likes listening to music and watching children’s programs.
