Down syndrome

Julia, 8 years old, was born with Down syndrome and was abandoned when she was only three months old. Julia is currently taking preschool level courses, but her speech is well developed. Julia is a performer and loves to dance and sing! She is potty-trained and likes to help take care of younger children.

We visited Julia in her orphanage in late June. She is small for her age, which is common for children with DS. She was just precious. She recited a poem for us along with hand gestures, which we captured on video.

If your family is open to the adoption of a child with Down syndrome, please consider Julia. She could be a wonderful addition to your family.

A $3500 grant is available to reduce Julia’s adoption expenses from the agency who currently has her file.

What an amazing smile!!  Possible FAS in addition to the Down syndrome.

From a family who visited with her in August 2015: “She is so sweet! Very affectionate. I got her out of the stroller today and was dancing with her, the radio was on, and she smiled and giggled the whole time! After a while, I just sat and bounced her on my lap and then she snuggled in to me and almost fell asleep. She will do so well with a home!  She constantly has “sleep” in the corners of her eyes. ”

Temple is a precious little girl who is 3 years old. She has Down syndrome, with excellent gross and fine motor skills. Temple is not a good eater, and they are working with her to improve her nutrition. In her file, there is a description that may well be a bad translation, but the agency loves it. Under “Personality”, it say Temple is “relentless”. Perhaps, strong-willed is what they meant. But a relentless, adorable little girl will do well in life, for sure! Temple is not fond of being awakened to eat, but is typically a very happy little one. She loves to be held and hugged, Temple is a delightful little girl who will bring such happiness to your family!

FelicityGirl, born February 2011
PRC

Felicity is a curious little girl with bright eyes, who seemed totally comfortable navigating a room full of strangers when our staff visited her orphanage. She’s a very social little girl, who loves to be playing with other kids. She has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. A natural little leader, she can become loud trying to get the other children’s attention and get them to follow her! Her favorite activity is to go outside and play on the slides and swings. The doctor who traveled with our staff felt she follows directions well and is creative in finding solutions. Sometimes she will imitate people on TV, and she enjoys dancing when her caregiver plays piano. She’s a very sweet girl, who will help her nannies move chairs, and give up her seat for other kids. When she sees a caregiver sit down to rest, she will even go give them a backrub! She knows to get a rag and clean up spills without being asked. Her motor skills are good; she can run, jump, and go up and down stairs. Her language is delayed, currently she can just say “Ma” and babble, but she has very good understanding of what is said to her. She is potty trained during the day and wears a diaper at night.

EstherGirl, born January 2009

Down syndrome, Post-op CHD

Esther is an outgoing little girl who filled the room with her own high-energy sunshine when our staff saw her on a trip. Everything she saw delighted her- the giant rolling balls, brightly colored pipe cleaners, blocks to stack. She has Down syndrome, and seems to have good motor skills; she can run and jump, but her verbal skills are currently limited to “mama,” “baba,” and some expressive syllables. However she will also use gestures to express herself, and understand directions from her nannies. This curious little girl likes playing on the playground and enjoys all sorts of toys. Her nanny told our staff she’s very good at imitating what others around her are doing. When they sit down to rest, she will pat their backs, and if other children are crying, she will comfort them with a cuddle. Her self-care skills are good, she can feed and dress herself. She has had surgery for a heart condition, and the doctor with our staff didn’t hear any murmurs.

Carly is a chubby little girl, who was quite relaxed and content when our staff visited her orphanage. She seemed perfectly happy on her nanny’s lap, and reached with curiosity for the things handed to her. She has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. An extroverted little girl, she’s not afraid of strangers, and loves to be held, but can also entertain herself playing in her crib. She isn’t speaking yet, but will say “ah” to communicate, and understands simple directions. When she sees other children eating, she’ll reach for her caregiver like she’s asking for food too. She can roll over, sit and crawl, and though our staff saw she can bear weight, she’s not motivated to stand or walk yet. She can feed herself finger foods and hold her bottle to drink, and cooperate when getting dressed. She loves colorful balls, and dancing along with music! Spring is 2 years old, and just adorable! She came into care when she was 7 months old (approximately), and was found to have Down syndrome as well as a congenital heart defect. She had surgery in 2013 to correct the TOF/ASD (Tetrology of Fallot / atrial septal defect) and recovered well. Spring is a very quiet, very sweet little one who really needs a caring, loving family, who will provide her the therapy she requires. Spring has the typical delays seen in little ones with Down syndrome, and being confined to her stroller/walker is not helping her. Spring’s left ear folds down a bit, but there is no known hearing issue involved. They have noted in her file that Spring’s favorite activity is “being held” (how sweet is that!?). This little one is ready for a family.

Sasha (2)

Update as of May 2014:
Sasha is outgoing and adorable. According to her teacher, who proudly told us that she is one of the most able children in the class, and in her group, she has very good receptive language skills. She can speak simple words, and she uses gestures to communicate her needs. I note that she initiated shaking hands with me, making excellent eye contact. She was smiling, sweet and friendly…a very pleasant little girl. She loves to dance, and she has a very close friend in the orphanage, a boy named Codey, who is the same age, and who also has DS. They were observed together and there really seems to be a strong bond between them. It was very touching to see them together. Sasha has been a healthy girl. Sarah is a very lovely looking little girl, with a sweet expression and gentle manner. There are videos of Sasha.

Dollie is a little girl who has a very strong ability to adapt. When she had just entered the institute, she would look left and right in the room and turn back and forth. She would run up to other little children and say, “en ah.” When she saw curious things, she would say, “ohhhh.”

She is very well-mannered. When she’s eating, she will sit down on a stool and then use a spoon to feed herself one mouthful at a time; it’s very sweet. After she’s finished eating, she will take her bowl and give it to the nannies and then will happily smile at them. When she’s doing outdoor activities with other little children, she will hold their hands. She will help little children go up and down platforms.

She dances happily to the rhythm of music. She can put on her clothes and she can help the weaker children take off their clothes. Each time she does something successfully, she will always give a thumbs-up to the nannies and say, “great, great!” She is quite a likeable child!

Down Syndrome

Precious Lina has Down Syndrome and entered the orphanage when she was about 3 years old. She is very timid. When she does not get a toy, she will cry loudly and will cry out, “Mama, it’s mine” to the nannies. When she gets a toy, she will smile at the nannies. When she’s sleeping at night, she will lie down on the bed and wait for the nannies to say, “Lina, we are going to sleep and we are going to turn the lights off, be a good girl!” She will smile and nod her head then close her eyes and go to dreamland.

When she feels wronged, she will run to the nannies and say, “Mama, Mama” and the nannies will comfort her and pat her head and say, “Good girl, don’t worry about it.” She will then run over to the children and continue playing. When she sees other little children with a runny nose, she will help them wipe it and then smile at them.

Fran was at that time a little clumsy and behind other children her age, but was working hard to learn to stand and walk. When she sees the other kids cry, she will comfort them by patting them on the back. Tesia loves to play in the ball pits and on the trampoline. She likes someone to play with her and talk to her.
