Dillon

Dillon-2014Boy, born 2000
Down syndrome

From a missionary who visited in August 2014:    Dillon loves cuddles and attention. He also loves getting his photo taken with other people, then takes his own “photos” with his hand. He grabs you and says “cheee” and takes a selfie with his hand. So adorable!  He has a killer laugh.  He is smart and helps out the caregivers.  He doesn’t speak but verbalizes sounds and makes his needs known. He will be a lovely son.

From a family who visited with him in 2014:  In all my interaction and time with Dillon, I never saw the slightest sign that he was aggressive or had the ability to hit children. In fact, out of all the boys there, Dillon is the most gentle, softhearted, and kind. I did see some horse play and pinching between the other boys, but never Dillon. Dillon is calm, extremely happy, and joyful, and very soft and slow with his movements.

Dillon 1

From another family who met him:
He is beautiful! absolutely a treasure. a teddy bear my hubby says. When he first met me, he kissed my hand to say hello, and then he kissed (my husband’s) hand.  He has a beautiful smile! We visited him again later that night. He gave me a huge hug. He just wraps his arms around you very tight! He is quiet, but sat next to me and loves to spend time with you. Today, when we arrived and gave the kids cookies, he was so happy. We have a video where he sets down what he has in one hand just to say hello to the camera. He is full of smiles. When we left, I went up to him and he put the world’s hugest smile on his face and put his arms out in a straight “t”, armed and ready for a tight hug! An absolute treasure is the best way to describe him He is more than that.  He loves to play soccer. He runs and plays and laughs. He will be a huge blessing to a family! Also very gentle!

Codey

CodeyBoy, born June 2008
PRC
Down Syndrome

Date of Observation: May 2014

Codey is a cute little almost 6 year old boy with Down Syndrome. His functioning, described as “medium” by a caregiver, was corrected by his teacher, who described him as “better than medium”! He can learn, and he speaks in meaningful language.

Codey is very cute, although he was very shy with us, strangers. He needs some physical help. He wears diapers and he needs some help dressing but he is making progress. He is described as having “good focus”, “curious”, and “naughty”. The latter has a very positive connotation in China, where naughty means, smart, funny and clever. He plays very well and interactively with the other children. It is obvious that he is really loved by the staff and his teacher. Codey has been healthy, with no significant medical history or surgeries. He looks clean, well dressed, well nourished, and well cared for. The most touching part of Codey is his attachment to another child in his group, Sasha, a little girl his age who also has Down Syndrome. They have a very close bond with each other. Cody attends a special class in the orphanage where her is taught by a special ed teacher, along with a group of peers who have DS. This little boy appears to have a lot of potential. There are videos of Codey.

The agency has a $2000 grant available for Codey.

Simon (L)

SimonSimon LBoy, born Dec 2009
Down syndrome
post-op CHD, post-op Hirschsprung’s disease

Simon still lives in his baby home; if a family is found for him soon — they will NOT transfer him!

Simon receive special education, speech therapy and occupational therapy. He will need future speech therapy and special ed teachers services.

Simon seems to be a very peaceful child – no aggression towards other children. He plays with several boys and one girl in his group. He likes to play a lot with one older boy in front of the mirror as this boy shows what he learned at the speech therapist and Simon is joining him and learning with him. (Speech therapist a lot is working with the child in front of the mirror).

Simon seems to know not only his routine and what children shall do during it, but he is very sensitive to what is going on around him: I observed how he was helping one caregiver who is feeding a little boy: she was taking out the boy out of the crib and was carrying him on her hand and walking to the table – Simon  took a big chair and put it for a caregiver so that she does not walk for a long distance with a baby on hands. The care giver asked Simon to pull a chair towards the table and he did this.

Simon was helping the other caregiver to dress kids before we went outdoors. Simon was not only dressing himself, but he helped the caregiver to find the rights shoes for the other boy. Simon is very good helper as he knows all the shoes for all the children in his group. He understood that there is no need for rainboots as it was sunny and dry day (I did this on purpose and he was so good in understanding the instruction).

His play in the sand box was very calm taking into consideration that there was a girl of his age who was destructive and was kind of fighting with every child entering the sand box. He became very happy when we offered him an individual sand spoon and bucket and he found a quiet place and his play was correct: he was filling the bucket, and “baking the sand cakes”.

Simon is communicative, but he would do some things to get his attention in full from a stranger: he brought his whitle teddy bear which sings when the button is pressed and some lights are coming out. HE LOVES WHITE TEDDY BEAR. But in a music class he decided not to participate, but he was not distracting other children and was helping the younger one girl to sing and act correctly. He new all the songs and activities teacher was leading, but on that day decided not to participate and this was the way to get my extra attention.

Simon knows everything about floor cleaning and tools they need to use, can put a trash into the trash box, loves water. SIMON LOVES WATER; he was so happy when I asked whether he would love to play with water longer and alone. I said that I hope that one day he will be able to play with water for a longer time than usually now. I just hope, as this child is very very smart and he needs family and possibly an older sibling in the family, to learn from.

Boy, born January 2007
Down syndrome

Handsome Kelvin is 7 years old, and waiting for his family!

From a family who met him in June 2014:

This calm little guy came up to me with pleading eyes for attention and is just so polite. God has heard his prayers, and now he is listed for adoption! He is not overbearing or competitive at all. Rather, he is observant and inquisitive. He is about the size of a six year-old and just so gentle. I would take him home in a heartbeat if he was available before. He takes turns riding the red wagon around the orphanage grounds as the bigger boys pull him, and he gestures politely for fresh fruit when he sees it is available. He is kind to other children. He says a few words in his native language, and listened carefully when I was giving descriptions of my family photos. I have confidence that he would do wonderfully in any kind of family, and it is obvious– he can surely reciprocate love! He enjoyed throwing balls, going on walks, playing see-saw, and listening to English descriptions. Whoever adopts this little love will be so blessed to call him a beloved son.

Hunter, Forest and Ridge

30809005259_130809005814 30809010039

Brothers – they need to be adopted together!  They are said to be “very good boys”!

Hunter, The oldest, was born in March 2004

Hyperkinetic disorders/Hyperkinetic conduct disorder; Nonorganic sleep disorder/Emotional sleep disorder; Benign intracranial hypertension; Other specified diseases of gallbladder; Flat foot

Hunter likes to eat a lot. He and his brother Hunter-001

Forest have a lot of energy. He really likes to do arts and crafts and play games. Most of the time he has a very sweet disposition. He is very keen to interact with adults. That being said if an adult is too rough with him things will start to escalate. If an adult tries to swat at him or restrain him in someway he may attempt to bite. Hunter can speak pretty well but he can’t always communicate what’s going on with his emotions. Hunter responds best to strong male figures. An attentive dad is key to a positive adoption for him. He is in grade 4 here but he can’t read, write, do math, or anything like that right now. He is schooled by himself and school mostly consists of arts and crafts. He is not unintelligent but very delayed. He likes soccer. He would be great in an attentive family where he and his brothers will get much attention and where they will be by far the youngest children. I would adopt him myself if I could be as focused on him and his brothers as he needs a dad and mom to be and if we had the space for them along with our current 3. He enjoys picking fruit and cleaning in the orphanage. He is never been far from the orphanage and he is interested in coming to America. He has communicated that he really wants to come to America and really wants a papa.

Forest, the middle boy, was born in Aug 2006
Mild mental delays; speech disorder

ForestForest likes to eat a lot. He does school the same way his brother Hunter does. He is considered to be in the second grade. Very sweet but also very active. Like his older brother, he needs to need a lot of attention to keep him from unintended harm. He likes to be outside. He has minor institutional self harming tendencies like scratching himself to leave marks. He does not do that a lot though. Forest loves to give hugs and kisses and hold hands with the adults.

Ridge, the youngest brother was born in Aug 2008
Stenosis of pulmonary artery; currently he does not require surgery. Tuberculin skin test – positive?

Ridge-001Ridge likes to clean. He was mopping the floor with an adult sized mop as I wrote this. He is a very small but sweet boy. He’s a very peaceful and charming child. He is not in school yet but he seems to be the most intellectual of his brothers. He will likely do better in school then his brothers when he gets the chance. He is so cute it is hard to imagine him spending another day without a family. When the boys orphanage shuts down Ridge will be separated from his brothers for several months because he is not old enough to go with his older brothers. I expect this will be a very traumatic time for him, so if a family could come for him as soon as possible that would be best. No family should hesitate to adopt these children as long as they are available to give the time and attention that these children deserve. If that is done the children will flourish.

PRC
Down syndrome

Luke is a darling, six-year-old boy who is described as active, playful, coordinated, well-behaved, sensible, and gentle.

Luke is so many things, including capable and independent. He can dress himself for the most part, use the bathroom on his own, and attends kindergarten each day, after which he spends the afternoons with his foster grandparents and tells them all about what happened at school.

Luke has learned some counting, likes to draw simple shapes, gets along well with his classmates, and remembers most of what his teacher tells him. He loves music and dancing, and spending time with his foster family. Luke enjoys playing with toy cars and bikes, as well as bouncing a basketball around the neighborhood. He is a busy boy!

Thanks to the foster care sponsors, Luke has truly thrived in his community and has developed a strong emotional foundation. He is very much loved by his foster family, and their greatest wish is that Luke finds a permanent, loving home.

Delmar2014Boy, born January, 2004

Down syndrome, mental delays, inborn partial optic atrophy of both eyes

From an adoptive family who visited him in 2014:   ”  He is hilarious. He is on puree but can take some lumps. That means he is usually the last to eat and squacks with displeasure. He loves to makes noises with his lips and will thrive in a family. I bet he will learn to speak.  When I came to visit my son he came and sat on the couch next to me and held my hand for 20 minutes. He is not particularly shy. He does very small bits of rocking and does not do much stimming.  He is a favorite of the caretakers.  He is a sweet and curious little guy who is the size of a 4 or 5 year old.”

From an adoptive family who visited with him in June 2013:   I met Delmar today. He is really tiny … maybe the size of a 3 year old, very petite in build. He was quite shy and didn’t want to come near me. He moved away when I tried to touch his hand. He was more open with the therapist who was there (a guy). Mostly he just sat on a mat, rocking and looking into space. Occasionally he waved his hands around. He’s a beautiful little boy, and was adorable in a tiny pair of overalls.

When he turned 1 year old, he was not yet sitting alone, or crawling. He will need more time, and attention, before he masters these milestones.

Kent is a precious baby boy. He is very alert, and very engaging. His receptive language is very good, and he is beginning to make sounds to communicate with the nannies. Down syndrome

Xander was found abandoned at 6 yrs old, he’s an active child, running and chasing in the rooms all around, he was even running to go upstairs, however he never did that again after teacher’s criticism so that we could see he’s an obedient child. At the age of 6 years and 7 months, Xander did well in all aspects of taking care of himself: he eats food himself, washes the dishes after meal and takes shower, puts on clothes, socks and shoes, goes to washroom and occasionally he helps caretaker to do works within his abilities. At the age of 6 years and 1 month: he is active, restless and unquiet, able to greet familiar people and call “teacher, aunt, uncle, brother, sister”, he’s really naughty and played on class, he didn’t like to be restricted, playing is the nature for boys, however the teacher demanded him to keep classroom discipline and he couldn’t affect other kids, he’s acceptable to teacher’s words. At the age of 6 years 7 months, Xander behaved well on classes and he was praised many times by teacher, however his expression ability was not good enough and couldn’t express himself with whole sentences, so most of the time he needed the gestures, teacher said he had made big improvements, we trust he would express himself fluently and naturally.

Ordinary, he likes cuddle balls and play, roll over the ball on the ground, then he will throw it away, he may pick up again. Sometime he will play and entertain himself for a whole day.  He can pronounce simple sounds, he can use gestures to say hello and goodbye to others.
