These teenagers are within 18 months of aging out.  This means if they are not adopted before their next birthday, they will **no longer be eligible for international adoption**.   In China, aging out = just 14 years old.   Elsewhere it is 16 years of age.

In some cases, the paperwork needs only to be *filed for immigration* before their birthday — and in some cases the adoption needs to be finalized.

Please inquire if you believe you could work quickly to complete an adoption and save one of these older children and give them the family every child deserves.

Paxton

Girl, born Nov 2002

Paxton is a wonderful, kind teenager who would love to be in a family. PAXTON IS AGING OUT SOON!

Paxton has congenital tricuspid atresia. She had a bi-directional Glenn Shunt in 2007 and TCPC surgery with fenestration on 23-Dec-15. Prior to the 2015 surgery she had poor circulation which has caused clubbing in her fingers and toes. When waiting for surgery, her oxygen levels were low and were not supplying to her extremities well. This clubbing is purely aesthetic and does not affect function in any way. Prior to her surgery, Paxton had trouble going up and down stairs and had swelling in her legs. This is no longer the case post-surgery. Paxton is very active. She loves to ride her bike and jump on the trampoline.

Paxton’s heart condition is very stable. She is on two maintenance meds with therapeutic response. She requires monthly blood tests as one med is a blood thinner but if she were adopted she would likely have access to meds available in other countries that would not require this. Paxton is very well liked by her peers. She is in third grade at school, due to a very late start, but she enjoys going to school and appears intellectually normal.

Perry

Boy, born 2005
PRC
Cerebral Palsy

Listed: August 2017

Perry is a handsome and sweet recently turned 12-year-old boy who is full of smiles and so very ready to have a family of his own! Perry participated in an Ambassadors of Hope camp in the fall of 2015. He was the oldest of all the kids in his group, at just ten. Perry draws well and is a good-natured boy who follows directions and shares with others. His volunteer at that camp stated: “At first glance, he seemed to have so much going against him that he could have been forgiven for feeling defeated; instead, Perry smiled easily and stayed positive despite the cerebral palsy which put him in a wheelchair, and left him in an orphanage.” There is a terrific blog post about Perry that really shows just how special this sweet boy is. Please help us spread the word about Perry!

Perry’s special need is cerebral palsy. He is fully continent, but he does not walk. He uses a wheelchair to get around. Perry needs a family who will see past the wheelchair and see the amazing child that he is and the terrific son they could be missing out on!

Many videos available.  There is an agency which will waive their adoption fees (equivalent of an $8000 grant).

2016

Kade 2014DOB: 2002
Diagnosis: Down syndrome, asthma

Listed: October 9, 2011

2014 UPDATE:  Kade was moved out of an institution and into a group home in 2014.  He is described as sensitive, with alert look, inquisitive, willful, contact and adaptive to the group. He is oriented in his immediate social environment and in the scheme of his own body. The fine motor skills are developed and all main motion skills have been mastered. He understands and carries out all commands and makes attempts to pronounce some words. He is very energetic with great desire for all kinds of motion games, and is well coordinated and purposeful. Kade feeds himself, dresses himself, and is completely toilet trained. His favorite activity is to listen to music and dance and he shows off on all festivities. His expressive and impressive speech is poor and he has limited vocabulary but he pronounces conscious syllables and words. He imitates objects from everyday life when they are mentioned. He likes to help to take care of the other children in the institution. He is interactive with the other children from the group. He can start playing with any toy. He draws by imitation within the limits of the paper. He likes to play with stuffed, musical and mechanic toys and he uses them according to their purpose. He can play for a long time with them.

Photos and videos from December 2014 are available through the agency.

Kade is currently living in a mental institution but is doing very well. He is attending school in the local village. His gross and fine motor skills are well developed. He colors inside the lines, feeds and dresses himself and is toilet trained. His expressive and receptive language is developed. He answers to his name, follows directions and repeats the names of objects. He participates in games and seeks out contact with other children. He enjoys playing with stuffed animals, musical toys and mechanical toys.

His play is appropriate. He is impulsive and will get upset if he doesn’t get his way. However, he is not aggressive toward himself nor toward other people.  He has a short attention span and will often give up easily when an activity is too hard and ask to do something else instead.  Kade is described as calm, inquisitive, headstrong, sensitive and communicative.

Update from Feb 2013: Kade is toilet trained, feeds and dresses himself, says some words, follows directions, and is not aggressive. He attends special education classes taught by teachers who come to the institution for instructional time. He is active and enjoys playing outside and staying busy. He enjoys the attention from the staff and will act silly to get them to pay attention to him. We have several current photos and a video of him. In the video, he is playing on playground equipment, following directions, joking around with staff and making funny faces at the camera and you can hear him say a few words too. He is living in a mental institution, but he is well cared for and doing quite well.

He enjoys being the leader during games and activities and sometimes corrects and scolds others when he gets angry. A.V. seeks out emotional closeness with those who are most meaningful for him. A.V. has difficulty expressing himself verbally when he articulates words. In his relationships with the other children that live at the institution, A.V. is friendly, prudent and respectful. An evaluation concluded that his intellectual abilities are border line and this is directly related to his perinatal history and social deprivation associated with abuse and malnutrition.

Tamarix is a strong willed girl who is 12 years old. Tamarix came into care as a baby, and was found to have a CHD (ASD – already repaired), a cataract of her right eye (post surgery), and congenital deafness. Tamarix is quite able to care for her own needs. She attends a school for the deaf, where she has learned sign language (CSL). Tamarix prefers to do things her own way (remember the strong willed part?), and can be very stubborn. Tamarix has 2 years to find a family before she ages out. It is difficult to say if Tamarix understands adoption, and what it will mean for her life. We know the great difficulties she will face as she becomes an adult with hearing loss in her country. We hope there is a family who will be able to give her the love and support she will need.

Simeon and Charlotte

Charlotte, born 2002
significantly delayed

Listed February 22, 2011

New pic Jan 2017.

Simeon is a beautiful Roma child with dark hair and big brown eyes.  He is significantly delayed, and diagnosed with cerebral palsy.  We are trying to get more information on his social history.  Simeon is a fraternal twin, whose sister has already been adopted.

Simeon is described as mostly non-verbal, and is not able to walk on his own.  There just seems to be so much potential for him in a family environment.  He is already an outcast because of his darker skin and will be left institutionalized – and likely bedridden — if not adopted.

From a family who visited with him in 2011:  Simeon is barely responsive to stimuli, but I believe that could change if he received regular, loving attention.  I didn’t observe any of the orphanage workers spending much time interacting with him.  There were times that I was able to get him to smile and grip my hand.  After a few days, he was even able to clap!  But most of the time he is staring off in any direction and seems completely unable to control most of his movements.  He was always either lying down or propped up in a sitting position.  I never heard him speak.  I also never heard him cry or fuss. Overall, a very calm child.

Married couples only, larger families and older parents welcome.

Down syndrome, specific mixed developmental disorder and aphasia (Language disorder)

Listed: October 30, 2015

Mikel is not speaking, but follows directions. In 2004, he had surgery for cataracts, and glasses assigned for permanent wearing. The report indicates that the boy is not getting involved in any activities and performs the stereotypic movements. Mikel was never visited by his parents and has no contact with relatives.

Mikel goes to the special school in town. Mikel is not receiving any neurological medication. His sleep during the night is good (calm), but he needs to wear diapers. Mikel needs an ongoing supervision by an adult. His eye contact is short, is concentrating his attention to the sounds and visual signals. Has good understanding of the adult’s speech, implements instructions, but he is not speaking by himself. He is able to eat without help, to dress up and undress, to wash his hands, brush his teeth, but still his hygienic skill are not yet developed in full: he takes the action only when is reminded and is helped by the staff member. His eating is good and likes different food. His interest in the environment is weak, he feels secure in the environment he is familiar with with persons he knows. He likes to be together with other children in a family group setting, listen to music, but due to his slow motion he is not getting involved into the group activities. His favorite activity is to play with balloons and ball; he throws them up in the air.

She attends school in the special education class at the orphanage, where she is in 2nd grade. Her favorite subjects are art and Chinese. McKinley’s best friend has already been adopted to the US and she would very much like to be adopted too and she said she’d love a big family! When asked what kind of family she would like, she pointed to one of our staff members. She is a very sweet and considerate little girl. The guide that was with our staff said she has known her for years and that she is a wonderful girl!

McKinley’s favorite foods are fish, noodles, and grapes. Her favorite toys are dolls and puzzles. McKinley’s favorite animals are dogs and kangaroos. Her favorite color is white. McKinley said she wants to be a mama when she grows up…so sweet! McKinley’s mental abilities are slightly below her peers. She is not receiving any therapy at this time. He can do a lot of things, like a typical kid; he is the big brother in the orphanage, and helps the nanny do lots of housework. He feeds the babies, dresses them, put their shoes on, take the trash (babies’ dirty diaper, wipers etc.) to go throw away, plays with kids while the nanny is busy, and takes good care of himself. He helps the old men do some gardening, he is very well potty-trained, he eats well, won’t get the table messy, and knows to change the slippers while come into the room.

Listed May 11, 2015

Willa is by all accounts an extroverted, happy, well-behaved, very obedient and caring, helpful and easy-going girl.  She  has been in the orphanage system and foster care since 2005 and has lived in the foster home inside the orphanage for the last 5 years.  She’s always gotten along well with foster families.  She likes to help her foster mom, do housework, take care of her little brothers and sisters, and help children with physical disabilities walk up and down stairs.  Though she is diagnosed with postoperative tongue malformation and mental development delay, others who’ve met her say she has normal mental and emotional development, but can’t speak clearly. Her motor skills are normal, and she has no physical limitations.  A recent report says she’s in kindergarten, but past reports have said she is in the orphanage special education class, is the best student there, understands what is taught, and is good at painting.  She is close to the teachers and gets along very well with all other kids and adults.  She can recite some poems and children’s songs, as well as simple English words.  She can write simple words and do simple addition and subtraction. We and others met Terri in her orphanage, and one visitor reports, “She is a very sweet and happy child who really lights up the room when she smiles. She will go very far with love and formal education.” She really wants to be adopted!  See her happy personality as she dances in her video.   Click here to see Terri’s video

Listed: March 1, 2015

From a family who met her in 2014:  This young lady is very sweet! She is in school and just finished the 3rd level. Betsy likes to color, read, run, swing on the playground, and dance. When we were able to talk to her she seemed slightly shy but very calm and gentle. Betsy is articulate and seems only slightly delayed. She and my daughter hugged and cried when they had to say good-bye. Betsy really wants to come to America. She would be a wonderful addition to any family! I would love to share more with seriously interested families.

Update November 2016:  Here is a beautiful young lady who wants a family very badly. Betsy just turned 14 years old. She is fun, rather shy, very sweet, immature emotionally (more like an 8-10yo), physically affectionate, with some mild mental delays, has severe astigmatism that made her nearly blind (but since corrected with strong glasses). She was hosted this summer by a family in TX. We visited Betsy for 6 days while she was here. Betsy confided in our daughter that she did not want to go back to her country at all and wanted to stay here in America with a mama and papa and brothers and sisters. Betsy cried at the thought of going back to her internat (boarding school for orphans).

Yes, adopting Betsy would be adopting an older child. Yes, it comes with different expectations than adopting an infant. Yes, I’ve been there done that and would be more than happy to share the ups and downs of adopting an older child. Yes, I would adopt Betsy in a heartbeat if our house wasn’t already full.

Please, DO NOT turn away from Betsy. Please, pray about adopting her.

I KNOW what kind of internat she comes from…it’s NOT a good place. Betsy does have a few teachers who do care somewhat for these children. She does receive some schooling. Betsy needs out!

Sherman

Sherman (1) Sherman (2)Boy, born August 2004
PRC
Mild cerebral palsy

Listed: January 27, 2015

Sherman is outgoing, clever and diligent. He enjoys talking with others and likes to imitate sounds and actions. Sherman enjoys listening to music and loves to dance! He is curious about new things and likes to read books, look at pictures, listen to stories and go outside. Sherman has mild CP and his physical development is behind other children of his age. He has been in a foster family since 2006 and really thrived in that environment. Sherman likes to be independent and is a great helper!

Update from his host family: Sherman is being hosted in the US this winter! Sherman is a super sweet boy who is easy to fall in love with. He is overall very obedient and does a good job communicating despite language differences. He has been picking up some English, including counting and saying things like, “bye-bye” and “good night”. He gives and receives hugs, kisses, and high fives easily. He is polite and will say, “Thank you Mama” when the host mom gives him something. He gets very excited sometimes and will get very loud and animated (both when he’s happy and upset). He is very ticklish, smiles and laughs a lot, and loves to dance, which is super cute! He is also quite the poser for the camera. He is pretty easy going and has become easy to correct. When he really wants something or things don’t go his way (i.e. losing at a game) he will whine and pout, but usually can be persuaded to have a better attitude pretty quickly. He likes to play by himself a lot, but will play with others sometimes. He doesn’t seem interested in watching TV, unless it’s a Chinese cartoon (then he could probably spend hours watching if you let him). Sherman likes playing in the backyard~ going down the slide, digging in the gravel, riding bikes and scooters around. He also seems to like putting the train track together and running the train on it. He found the game, “Trouble” and LOVES IT! He also got the card game “War” for Christmas and has enjoyed playing that a lot. The host family played bowling on the X-box with Sherman, which he thought was the coolest thing ever. He loves the computer and will ask to go on it a lot, and the host family got him an mp3 player for Christmas which he now listens to all the time. When he first arrived, Sherman could do a 24 piece puzzle independently, but was frustrated and unable to do puzzles larger than that. The host family gave him a 48 piece puzzle for Christmas, which he tried to trade with the host daughter, because she got a 24 piece puzzle that he could do. Of course, she didn’t want to trade because hers was a princess and she can’t do bigger puzzles either. Anyway, we have been working on how to do puzzles together (separating the edge pieces, looking for all the pieces for one particular part of the puzzle, etc.), and one day he called the host mom downstairs to show her that he had put his 48 piece puzzle together completely independently! She was so proud of him! The host family hopes Sherman finds a forever family soon!

NEW PIC OF LAUREN! January 2017.  She has grown into quite a beautiful young lady.  She urgently needs a family of her own!

Listed: August 7, 2010

Lauren says “HI Mama!!  I’m here waiting for you!”  (in this photo she is riding a rocking horse!)

Lauren is a super-sweet and active little girl.  She is very social and affectionate, and will do well in a family setting.

As with all children living in these difficult conditions,  this child’s cognitive development has regressed significantly since he/she was younger.  It is of crucial importance that any family considering the adoption of an older child from the mental institution setting be well prepared for what to expect with regards to how the neglect and lack of adequate medical care and nourishment has affected this child.    These children all have TREMENDOUS potential for improvement, and deserve to have a life outside these four walls.

Chrystyna

Guardian Angelchrystyna2015-croppedGirl, Born January 2002

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Listed: August 7, 2010

Possible Marfan syndrome.

Chrystyna is a beautiful, brown haired, brown eyed girl who deserves a chance at a better life!  Her official orphanage papers say she has developmental delays/difficulties from birth, but nothing more specific than that.  It is possible she has FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome).  Her biological mother  was deprived her parental rights in December 2004, and the biological father is not known.  Chrystyna has so much potential, and will be a precious gift to any family who adopts her.

Chrystyna is already living in an institution, so we need a family for her right away!

UPDATE:  God has been watching Chrystyna.  She was recently transferred out of the institution into a wonderful facility, where they teach these children, work with them, and they appear very well cared for.  The difference in the few girls who were transferred OUT of the institution is incredible!   Please give these girls a second chance for a loving family!

If you are unfamiliar with FAS, please spend some time researching this condition.  Just as with Down syndrome, FAS and FAE have a wide variation of effects on each child, both medically, physically, and cognitively.   This is typically dependent on how long during the pregnancy the mother consumed alcohol, and of course, how much.   There is no way to know this ahead of time.

From a family who met her, Sept 2012:
She is getting settled into her new environment. She seems to be very comfortable in her groupa. She is very beautiful and still has a lot of potential.  She deserves a chance!

From someone who met her, June 2013:
During the music performance, she was constantly stimming really fast (like it looks like she is being fast forwarded) and after they finished she was taken out by a nanny. Not sure what is going on with her;  If interested families want to see the videos they are welcome to! I know a family tried to take pictures of her last year but couldn’t get a good one because she moved so much!

Developmental delays, possible mild Thalssemia

Listed: January 14, 2014

Melody is diagnosed with moderate delayed mental development and Hypochromic microcytic anemia- possible thalassemia or iron deficiency anemia. Her file mentions beta thalassemia minor, but it does not appear that she receives regular transfusions at this time. She may have thalassemia intermedia. A prospective family should be prepare for any form of thalassemia. www.choosingthalassemia dot blogspot dot com is an excellent resource to learn more about thalassemia. Melody does not have good motion development and her mental development is delayed. A prospective family should be prepared for mild CP as well, even though that is not on the list of diagnoses. She was admitted to the orphanage at 5 years old. At that time, she could sit, stand, and walk alone. After she got comfortable with her new surroundings, she was polite and could get along well with people. At the age of 6 years, she could go up and down stairs holding onto something and could pick her favorite toys, but her language development was delayed. She could greet adults positively. At the age of 8 years, her motion of both upper limbs was not good and her walking position was not normal. She could wash her hands, could put on and take off her clothes independently, and could button and unbutton. She is now receiving special education in the center, can recognize common colors and shapes, can participate in some simple activities with kids, and can read some short children’s songs with teachers and friends, but she cannot read alone. Melody is gentle and shy, can get along well with others, and is very happy when playing games with children. Occasionally she is obstinate. She likes to share toys and food with the other children.

Rogers update 2014 (1)RogerBoy, born May 2004

Down syndrome

Listed: December 9, 2013

From a family who met him in August 2015:  “Came in and was very quiet, respectful of the nannies, and greeted us calmly. He posed for a picture and followed directions. When we were done taking his photo, he sat down quietly and waited for direction from the nannies.  He posed for many pictures!  He was very calm and sure of himself.  The room was very busy, with lots of visitors and lots of children.  This did not seem to upset Rogers at all.  He said hello to us.  Very well behaved!  Rogers is very loved in this orphanage, and he has been prepared for the transition into a family.  PLEASE SEE HIM BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!

Rogers has normal limb development and delayed mental development. Upon admission,he was 4 years old. At that time, he could walk alone, felt strange about the new place, and was careful to get to know new people. After a period of time, he learned how things worked and liked to get to know new people and got along with others well. At the age of 5 years, he could go up and down stairs holding the rail, could clap his hands along to the rhythm of music, could pick his favorite toys, and could share toys and food with other kids. At the age of 7 years, he could jump off the ground, could draw 3 parts of the body, and could pick up and throw a ball. At the age of 9 years, his self-management was improved and he knew his gender. He could eat and drink independently, take a bath, and put on his clothes independently. Now he is receiving the special education in the institute. He can imitate drawing pictures, can recognize common colors, can run and jump, and can have simple motion with his friends. He would like to do some work, but his language is delayed and he can only speak some simple words unclearly, He can understand the directions and he is gentle, shy, and likes familiar people close to him. Roger can get along well with other kids, likes playing games, enjoys basketball, and likes riding bikes with kids in the playground. Occasionally he is obstinate, but telling him a story can make him smile.

At the age of 4 years, she could have eat and drink independently and could recognize people, places and objects, but her expression was poor. At the age of 6 years, she was receiving the special education in the institute. Developmental Delay

Listed November 18, 2013

Alice is very caring and sweet. She is diagnosed as being developmentally delayed, but the volunteer at camp found her to be a very smart girl who loves chatting about everything around her!!

What Alice’s camp counselor had to say:
“I am writing about my girl Alice whom I worked with at camp for a week. Alice is such a great girl! She is 9 years old, loves crafts, singing and dancing in front of people in her own way, and taking care of others. As I watched her, I noticed how kind and sweet she is. Alice is so kind to others, especially children who are with her, or those she lives with at her orphanage.

One of the best moments I had with Alice was when we read our goodbye letters to each other. She seems so tough and tried not to show her emotions to me all week, but when I read my letter to her and she read her letter to me, she started crying. She cried for a very long time, which made me emotional and she turned and looked at me and whispered “I love you.” It broke my heart, but made me so thankful to have this sweet girl in my life that I didn’t realize I needed, until God placed her there.

Alice looks a little small for her age, but has no physical needs. She is very active, talks a lot once she gets to know you, and like I have said before, LOVES kids! It is so neat to see her take care of those around her, make sure they have enough to drink, to eat, and that they are clothed well. Any family would be so blessed to have Alice in their life and I hope you consider adopting her!! She is so amazing and I’m blessed to know her and call her my little sister.”
