 Angel BOYS

There is a very special joy that boys bring to life.  Unfortunately, they are often the last ones to be chosen for adoption.  We so hope you will find YOUR new son right here at the end of Reece's Rainbow.

Unlike several of our other "group" grant funds which are made for the first child adopted from that page, each of these "Other Angels"  does still retain their own grant account.  PLEASE designate which child you are sponsoring in your Paypal donation.

You are also invited to send a check (no Paypal fees) to  Reece's Rainbow, PO Box 4024, Gaithersburg, MD  20885

Grady (37)

Boy, Born May 14, 2007

What a snuggable and happy little boy!  Grady was born with arthrogryposis of his lower limbs.  His hands and arms are fine.  He is not able to walk at this time.  He is only 2, and will so greatly benefit from surgery, therapy, and loving family to encourage him!   Without this, he will remain bedridden for the rest of his life.     Please consider Grady for your son!

I have $365 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Peter

Boy, Born May 24, 2006

Eastern Europe

Peter has been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD). He takes medication daily. He receives speech therapy and the therapist reports that he is making progress with communication. His attention span has increased and he will participate in guided tasks.
His psychologist lists his development as moderately delayed but believes that a part of this delay is attributed to his environment.  He can walk, run, climb stairs, and throw a ball. He loves playing outside. He can feed himself and assists with dressing himself and brushing his teeth. The staff believes that a lot of his problems are due to his dislike of constantly being a part of a group of children.  He understands and follows simple directions and responds very well to individualized attention.
Medical information and additional photos are available.

There is no "court"...only a beautiful "adoption ceremony".  Orphanage donations are not required.   Short, simple dossier, very short wait for travel once your dossier is submitted.  This is a very easy program, and we could get many children out of this country with minimal costs and easy travel requirements.

Zachary   # 560

Boy, Born January 10, 2006

He was born premature. He lived with his grandmother for the first year of his life and was placed in the orphanage at the age of 14 months old.  He is blind in both eyes.   He walks unsteadily.   He plays with toys and will manipulate them.   He responds positively to interactions with adults.   He is considered to be behind in his development.
Data about the birth parents indicates that premature birth was a result of a spinal injury in the mother. Both the birth mother and the birth father are believed to have mental illness.

Boy, Born January 19, 2006
He was originally diagnoised with Infantile Cerebral Palsy. He has made significant progress with motor skills and has been followed up by a neurologist several times. He now walks and has well developed motor skills.  His development is considered mildly delayed. He has problems with attention. He seeks out individual attention and will get upset when it is not given to him. He has been observed self-hurting when angry. He seeks out relationships with other children and plays with them. He will imitate the actions of others. He eats independently and holds out his hand in greeting for “hello”.
There is data that the mother is an alcoholic, but no indication if she drank while pregnant.    He does not have any obvious facial features characteristics of FAS.

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Gage is a very intelligent, happy, and affectionate young man!

From his medical records:    Cerebrospinal partial Aplasia of the lower part of the spine, partial hypoplasia of pelvis bones, contracture of femurs/thighs/hips and knees.  Likely common diagnosis of Caudal Regression Syndrome/Sacral Agenesis.

From his caregivers:  crawls on his hands, talks simple sentences, well oriented in colors and forms and objects, eats independently.  Very smart and handsome little boy with great potential, in great need of a loving family to understand and take care of his medical needs

If anyone is considering adopting Gage, here is a website you should see:

http://www.johnnyeckmuseum.com/

Johnny Eck had the same condition as Gage. He led a full and rich life, and even though his ways of making aliving is controversial, we have to remember that the times were different then. Anyway, this man made lemonade out of the lemons life handed him. How wonderful if he could be an inspiration for someone to pursue adopting Gage.

Edwin  (9)

Boy, Born July 11, 2006

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Edwin is a handsome little boy with dark hair and dark eyes.   He was born with Goldenhar Syndrome.    This is a very rare condition, and is accompanied by several additional medical complications for Edwin.    His medical records indicate:  congenital nervous system malformation - internal obstructive hydrocephalus, subcompensated form, rickets, mental delay, right micropsia, acoustic meatus atresia - Goldenhar syndrome, delay of physical development.  This little boy needs SURGERY to relieve his hydrocephaly and a family who will love him and save him from certain death in a mental institution.     He  is already 3 1/2 years old, and is on his countdown to transfer :(  And regrettably, he can not be adopted from the place he will be sent.  Someone please save Edwin!

UPDATE:   surgery for a shunt to relieve the pressure in his head is scheduled soon!

*** Due to the severity of Edwin's needs, families interested in adopting this child in particular must be HOMESTUDY APPROVED before an official match or commitment can be made.***

Eddie  (9)

Boy, Born August 23, 2006

Eddie was born with Cerebral Palsy.  He also shows many facial features of a child with fetal alcohol syndrome.  Eddie has an open oval window and an extra ventricular chord in his heart.  He is said to have a moderate mental delay.

Regrettably, this orphanage is one of the poorer ones, with very little outside aid and very little hope.    All of the children are tiny and undernourished.  These children are immediately transferred at 4, and have little chance of survival where they are sent.  All of our waiting children need families, but these have a critical need.  Please consider one of these children soon!!

Sergey  (9)

Boy, Born October 15, 2007

Kenneth  (11)

Boy, Born November 27, 2006
Photo dated Feb 2010.   Kenneth is a blonde haired, blue eyed cutie who was born with FAS.    Kenneth does have some spasticity on his left side, and will greatly benefit from therapy and a loving family to encourage him!   He is diagnosed with hydrocephaly, but this is a result of the FAS.  He is not in need of a shunt to correct (the doctors say).

As you can see from this updated picture, Kenneth is doing GREAT!  He wants a mama and papa of his own.

If you are unfamiliar with FAS, please spend some time researching this condition.  Just as with Down syndrome, FAS and FAE have a wide variation of effects on each child, both medically, physically, and cognitively.   This is typically dependent on how long during the pregnancy the mother consumed alcohol, and of course, how much.   There is no way to know this ahead of time.

 Victor  (16)

BOY, born September 6, 2005

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

This sweet little boy really needs a loving family to grow up in!   He has the most beautiful blue eyes, and a glowing personality!  He makes the most of his challenges, which are many.    Victor is able to walk and is quite functional, despite his challenges.  Victor was born with spina bifida and hydrocephaly.   He has a congenital lesion of the central nervous system (spina bifida), myelocele (open ended), internal hydrocephalus compensated, and pelvic malfunction (curvature of his spine due to the spina bifida).  He struggles with his speech as well.  Victor sure has the odds stacked against him, but now he has a voice and hope for a family to love him through Reece's Rainbow!   Please consider rescuing Victor!   He is 4 now and facing imminent institutionalization.    He is SO smart and doing So well, please don't let him end up a statistic!!

Now is the perfect time to get your paperwork started, to save him from that fate!

UPDATE!  JUST LOOK AT HOW VICTOR HAS GROWN!   He is walking and doing so well, and still waiting for his forever family to rescue him!

From one of our adoptive families who visited with him in June 2009:  "  I wasn't sure at the time if it was him because he's grown so much since that last picture.... but he was doing VERY well.   He's walking great, we saw him laughing with the other kids, and if I didn't know better, I wouldn't have thought he had any special needs at all!    He was a very sweet little boy and seemed to play well with the other kids. "

Sullivan was born with a very rare disorder called Arnold-Chiari Syndrome.  He is not able to walk, but is very smart, although his speech is delayed.    He is not able to walk at this time due to a hip deformation, resulting from his A/C syndrome.    He does not speak too well, says seperate words, definitely understands when he is talked to and wants attention. He uses his hands well, plays with toys, can concentrate, he is very sweet and always smiling. I know caketakers just love him and think he is better developed than the rest in his group.

From his medical records:  He has syndrome of lower tetraparesis; defect of hip functioning as a result of cerebrospinal hernia of lower chest part; hydrocephaly (had surgery); syndrome of Arnold-Chiari. Mental delay; secondary myocardiopathy; delay of speech development.  Sullivan will be sent to a mental institution, and will remain bedridden the rest of his short life.   He has very little time left.   Now is the perfect time to start your paperwork to save him!  Please give Sullivan a chance to know a loving, supportive family!

Austin  (? 16ka1-3)

Boy, Born June 2006

This darling little boy is waiting for his forever family.   He has very unique facial features, but I am unfamiliar with the condition that causes these.    One of the possible diagnoses we have been made aware of *may* be a form of Russell Silver Syndrome  (RSS).   This most recent photo shows he is growing well, and seems to be active and relatively happy.   After what we learned about RSS, it seems much more likely than the previously supposed progeria, which is good for Austin!   Please consider adopting Austin and helping him be the best that he can be!   There will never be a place for him in his country outside the walls of an institution, just like our children with Down syndrome.

Little Kiril was born with microcephaly (a small head) as a result of FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).    He is considered significantly delayed.    He has brown hair and brown eyes, and so desperately wants to know life outside of this orphanage.   He is a darling little boy, and the orphanage director would so love to find a family for him soon.   He is able to stand, and can walk with help, but his speech is very delayed.   With therapy and a loving family and educational opportunities, Kirill has so much potential in life!

    Ivan # 2  (12)

    Boy, Born 2006

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

From our missionary who is also a professional early intervention developmental specialist:

Ivan 2  is a little boy who is reportedly three years old. He has an enlarged cranium/skull but his care worker said he did not have hydrocephalus although it looked that way to me. I did not feel any shunts. He was active and verbal. No observable motor impairments He was absolutely charming and engaging and very curious about me. When I gave him words in English, he gave me the words in Ukrainian!!! How's that for a charmer?!!!He appeared to be a favorite of a worker as she was taking him on an outing.

    Dmitriy  (4)

    Boy, Born December 26, 2005

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Little Dmitriy may not be able to see you, but he can hear you and feel you and wait for you to come for him.  He is 2 1/2 years old and was born with only one eye and the other is blind.  One of our adoptive families who visited with him in March of 2008 says this of him:  "  This little guy is very much still a baby, but has very little chance of being adopted because he has no eyes.  He was responsive to the caregivers and liked the security of their arms."

This new photo is from July of 2008, when Dmitriy was visited by another one of our adoptive families.   He is doing amazingly well, considering the fact that he can not see anything at all.  He is able to stand on his own now!

There are many families out there hoping to adopt a blind child, maybe Dmitriy will find his "forever family" at the end of Reece's Rainbow!

I have $45 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

    Matvey  (4)

    Boy, Born August 28, 2004

SIGNIFICANT RISK, PLEASE ADOPT ME SOON!!

Matvey is such a cute little boy, with blonde curls!   He is cognitively delayed, but does not seem to have any official diagnosis other than that.  He has amazing potential!!   He is already 3 1/2 and will be transferred to the institution after the summer.  Please give this little guy a chance to fulfill his potential!    One of our own adoptive families who visited with him in March 2008 shared this with us:  "  This little guy did NOT want to be photographed!  He was quite happy doing whatever he was doing before being brought into the room but having his picture taken was not high on his priority list.  He has “deep mental delay” (understand that this is according to Eastern European standards—he was more aware and alert than a child with Down syndrome might be at the same age).  I can’t tell you his eye color because he down-right refused to look at me, but those blonde curls sure were cute!

I have $0 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

    Andy  (11)

    Boy, Born December 2, 2007
Andy is too cute!  Dark hair and brown eyes, Andy has many facial characteristics of FAS/FAE.    This is not documented, but families considering Andy should research this condition.   His medical records indicate a perimembranous VSD (ventricular septal defect) and pulmonary hypertension.  Both of these are common symptoms of FAS.  Andy will need heart surgery to help relieve the pressure in his lungs so he can an active little boy and enjoy life to the fullest!

    Ivan  (42)

    Boy, Born August 3, 2007

Ivan is a darling little boy of Roma heritage.    He has dark hair and deep, dark brown eyes.   His medical records indicate:  CEREBRAL PALSY (congenital lesion of the central nervous system...not a "lesion" as we know in English), muscle spasticity, and significant psycho-motor delay.  He is not able to walk at this time, but is a favorite of the staff.  Therapy and a loving family will make a world of difference for this 2 year old!

    Burke  (35)

    BOY, Born December 12, 2007

Burke is so handsome, and is doing very well despite his cleft lip and palate.  No documented cognitive delays, but some of his facial features are consistent with FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome).   We are working to learn more of his social history and abilities to determine if he may have other challenges besides his cleft issues.  But he is darling none the less and needs a loving family!  He is able to walk and is quite independent!

    Justin  (35)

    BOY, Born June 27, 2008

Justin is one of our youngest children available, and has what we consider *minor* special needs.  His only medical records indicate a congenital cleft palate.

Although it is not documented and not 100% for certain, Justin does have some minor facial characteristics of FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome).  This is just a cautionary disclosure, so families are prepared and open to the challenges of FAS in the event this is the case.

    Owen

    Boy, Born December 2007

This darling little boy is waiting for his forever family, and we believe his condition to be one called Saethre-Chotzen Syndrome.

Also known as Acrocephalosyndyldactyly Type Chotzen or Saethre-Chotzen Syndrome. Chotzen Syndrome is a dominant genetic condition. They have a tower-shaped skull (acrocephaly), fused fingers and/or toes (syndactyly), asymmetric face, widely spaced eyes, droopy eyelid (ptosis), strabismus (crossed or "wall-eyes"), beak-like nose, small upper jaw, and jutting out lower jaw (prognathism).   Some plates in their skull close early.   This is called craniosynostosis.   Often people with Chotzen Syndrome are mildly hard of hearing. Sometimes they're unusually short.   Occasionally the closing of the plates in their skull can compress their brain and slow their development.   Sometimes boys with Chotzen Syndrome have undescended testicles.
