Boy, born March 2000
Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate (after repair)
Ages out in March 2014!
This boy is about to age out and his minor special need is Cleft Palate. He is a fun child who loves to sing and dance but is also independent, doing his own thing at times. According to his volunteers/translators, he is hard to understand while speaking at times. He is about to age out and needs a family to care for him.
“Eliah is like no other. He is very independent and enjoys doing things the way he likes it. Although he has his own ideas and methods, he is still obedient and willing to do what others want to do as well. He loves to smile and be silly all the time! During game time each day, he always smiled the most and participated in every one of the games. He loved to swim, and even though he did not know how to actually swim, he still tried putting his head under the water and kicking his arms and legs around. He loved to serve people at the dinner table and he was always the first one to get up, grab the food with his chopsticks, and plop it into my bowl. He also loved to run! Whenever my nine year old boy (I had three kids) ran off (which was very often), Eliah was up in a flash to chase him down! He was a very good big brother to my other buddy and always had his eye out for him. When I first saw him, I did not think he had any serious disabilities. However, he is quite hard to understand. Although I can understand Chinese, there were times I could not make out a word he said. We never really had a long, sit-down conversation but the short sentences here and there were hard to understand. Even my translators and the other kids said that even they sometimes don’t know what he is saying. He mumbles most of the time and sometimes it sounds like he is slurring. Other than that, he does not have any major disabilities. He is really a sweet boy and actions speak louder than words!”
