Girl, born May 2012
Down syndrome, congenital heart defect (post-surgical)
Darla was found when she was about two months old. The orphanage found a foster family for her quickly so that she would get better care. Her foster family consists of parents, grandparents, and a sister in college, and they all adore Darla — who wouldn’t!?
She had poor muscle tone and was weak due to her heart conditions, so she began receiving physical therapy. After two months she showed great improvement in her strength and muscle control. As of March 2013 she learned to hold her head up, and sit with assistance. If she hears her name she looks around to see who is calling her. She loves being outdoors and playing with her foster mom, who is very attentive and helps her practice standing.
In March of this year the orphanage arranged for her heart surgery at the best children’s hospital in the city, and it was successful. Though her development is delayed compared to other children, she has made great strides! Are you the family who will help her continue to grow?
