SARAH for the Hanchett family — NY
Eric and Joy Hanchett adopted their daughter, Emmeline (14), over ten years ago from Ukraine. In the decade that followed, they enjoyed their comfortable, happy life and didn’t think much about adoption or orphans… until March 2011. Feeling nostalgic, Joy began reading recent adoption stories and developed a passion for advocating for orphans. She “happened upon” Reece’s Rainbow and was drawn to Sarah. Eric, however, didn’t think the time was right. He wasn’t convinced they were meant to adopt again.
Joy kept praying for Sarah’s family to find her, and in early May, they did! Eric began seeing signs that they were called to adopt, and the very day Joy found more information about Sarah, Eric had made the decision to go forward with adoption plans. They are so excited to be embarking on this new adventure, and Emmeline is thrilled to be a big sister.
Eric is a paramedic, and Joy homeschools Emmeline, who is completing eighth grade this spring. They have an older daughter, Jessica (22), who lives several states away, where she works in a library and attends college.
