SONIA HOPE for the Gemmen family — MI

Al and Lisa Gemmen have been married for 7 years and have two energetic little boys, Josiah (5) and Gideon (3). They are in the process of adopting a little girl with Down Syndrome from Haiti. Al and Lisa first heard about Sonia through an urgent e-mail requesting immediate medical assistance for her. She needed open-heart surgery and a pediatric cardiologist in Haiti was not available. Immediately Lisa’s heart swelled for this little girl and she, along with her husband, began campaigning for a team of doctors and medical facility willing to donate their services to save Sonia’s life. After 3 months of phone calls, paperwork, prayer, and help from hundreds of people nationwide, God opened the doors! Miami Children’s Hospital agreed to treat Sonia and an amazing cardiologist, along with the hospital facility, donated their services.
Sonia came into Al and Lisa’s life in April 2011. She arrived in Miami with a bone infection that set back her heart surgery and kept her hospitalized for 3 weeks. Her surgery day came in June and it was one of the most amazing days in this families’ life. Sonia didn’t just have successful heart surgery. This precious little life was carried in the palm of God’s hand to be healed. One orphan of 46 million was saved and given a second chance. It’s too big of question to ask, why Sonia not another orphan? Al and Lisa do know that God did a miracle through Sonia. Her story touched the entire hospital staff. People saw Jesus in the eyes of Sonia.
Sonia became a part of the Gemmen family during those 3 months. It was a very stressful yet beautiful time for their family. Their two boys adored Sonia as their sister. Al and Lisa cared for her with the love of a father and mother. Al and Lisa prayed that God would bring Sonia into their lives again through adoption.
In July, they brought Sonia back to her orphanage, God’s Littlest Angels. Although it was heartbreaking to say good-bye to Sonia, they both felt a sense of peace that God would bring them together again as a family. They are pleased to announce that their Dossier for Sonia’s adoption arrived in Haiti December 2011.
Please join with the Gemmen family as they raise funds to cover the expenses of Sonia’s adoption.
