Mikale # 28-2

Boy, born 2006
Diagnosis:  general delays- he has recently turned 5 yrs old and his developmental level is set at 3 yrs old

Mikale is attending kindergarten and making significant progress. He’s talking and his vocabulary is constantly growing.   His gross motor skills are completely developed and his fine motor skills are developing too. He’s coloring inside the boundaries of a paper and feeding himself.

He participates in activities with the other children, but also likes to play alone. He plays with toys and can turn them on/off, manipulate them appropriately.   He enjoys the attention of adults and seeks them out for help. He has a caregiver that spends one-on-one time with him each day and his development has improved since this began.

UPDATE Feb 2012:  Mikale started school in September 2011. Since beginning school, Mikale has made huge improvements in all aspects of his development. He is doing very well in school and in his relationships with other children. The orphanage report that school has had a positive impact on his behavior as well. His expressive language has increased significantly and he is constantly learning new words and using them purposefully and correctly. He is now talking in short sentences and asking questions. He’s seeking out help from adults when needed and interacting with the other children voluntarily. He’s drawing lines and is in the beginning stages of learning to write. He can work puzzles. He looks at books and points to pictures in them and identifies the name of the object in the pictures. He’s eating completely independently, bathing himself and dressing himself. He’s participating in games and group activities and enjoying them. He has become very curious about his surroundings and explores his environment readily now. He is noticeably calmer and there are no issues with aggression or auto-aggression.
