Jeanette knows her braille alphabet and can read at a grade 1 level. She can write on a brailler and a slate and stylus. She uses an abacus to do math including regrouping addition up to the hundreds place. She knows how to type on a computer and is learning how to use screen reading software. She is very motivated by technology. She speaks fluently in her native language and can converse in English. She is very comfortable moving around independently. She also attends to the washroom independently.
She is very energetic and likes playing outdoor games. She is very friendly with all the other girls and staff in her home. She is curious about the world around her, and is rarely slowed down by her blindness. She thrives with one on one attention. She loves to laugh. She used to attend a school for the blind in the community but the class sizes were very large and quality of teaching was poor, so she is currently being taught at home and is doing very well in a small setting. We are brainstorming future academic options for her. She is very bright but gets bored easily and requires a lot of interaction. She has a good grasp on braille and is able to read. She has a lot of potential if we can tap into good opportunities. She has a lot of love to give and is sweet and endearing.
Jeanette has a $5000 agency grant offered by a specific grant.
